I LOVE Vice City! I got it for my brother as a Christmas present when it came out but I gave it to him early cuz I wanted to play it too. My brother loves the game but he hates the 80's but I think its okay, I dont remember a whole lot though since I was born in 85.

Vice City's the best. Simpsons Hit and Run looks really good too but I havent played it yet.

FFX-2

Hey...I just got a copy of Final Fantasy X-2. Who know's how to work the special dress-spheres? O_O I am totally lost.

BTW, is it just me or did Rikku get hotter? :p

I finally got a chance to play FFX-2! *does a happy dance* It's very... J-Popish. Not that that's bad. It's just different. :lol

The new ability system is really interesting, but I have a few qualms about it. Like, I wish that some of the abilities that you learn in one class could carry over to the others when you switch their clothes. Just stuff like the ones that would let you find more items and stuff would've been great. Hmph... Oh well. :p

Also, I'm really liking how loose the game is being in regards to the storyline. Usually, FF is really linear and straight-forward in how it sets up the tempo of the story, but in this one you get to wander around as much as you want and go along at your own pace.

So far, I'm loving the game. Kinda confusing at first, but it's really fun once you get the hang of it. Of course, with all the leveling up I'm doing, I'm probably gonna get sick of it after awhile. :p Ooh, btw, I love Paine, the new character. She's so hot! ;) And I'm totally digging the all-girl cast in this one. Has a very 'Charlie's Angels' meets 'Tomb Raider' kinda feel to it. :lol

Sorry for rambling on and on. I'm basking in geeky joy. :D

Broken Sword 3

Postby feena191 » Fri Nov 28, 2003 8:25 am

I love the Broken Sword games, and I've just got this one. I know there's no fighting (like FF games, which I also love) so Mum's not so keen on it either. But the animation is beautiful to look at, and the story is like watching a detective film.

It can't help but be linear, but it's wonderful.

Oooooh, I wanna play FFX-2!! I have ever since I heard they were coming out with a sequel to FFX, which they never ever do. I don't know about you guys but from the screenshots i've seen Yuna looks pretty damn :thud

Bloody Australia, we always have to wait for everything sooooooo freakin' long. Anyway it looks and sounds great, but does it still have worse acting then an episode of Walker: Texas Ranger??:p

Broken Sword... hmm... never heard of that before. I should go look into it. Always interested in hearing about cool games. :D

And yeah, FFX-2 has three girls as it's main heroes/heroines! I'm so happy! *does a happy dance* Two of them are kinda loopy, though, but genki (cheerful, healthy) is a popular personality type to the Japanese. :)

The voice acting... holy god, the bad voice acting... :stink But I've come to expect it, 'cause when something's not in the language it was made in, then you always know something gonna be off. Never fails. Of course, I'm just being an otaku (anime geek) purist, but still!

Must admit that Paine's American voice actress has a pretty sexy voice, though. Nice and deep and smooth. *swoons*

I remember a bit from the FFX Japanese voice acting, 'cause my brother bought the import, and it was a lot better. Definitely not as grating. :lol He didn't import this the FFX-2 one, though. It's really expensive. :p

Dude, and if you wanna see hot, check out all three girls and just go through a whole fashion show of their jobs. I think my favorite for all of them would still be warrior, 'cause chicks and swords... I dunno, it's a slight turn on. ;)

Am I sounding too much like an advertisement for the game? I'm sorry. I've just gotten addicted to it, and I can't play now that I'm back at school for another two weeks. *sobs* I need my gaming hit!

Hope you get to get the game soon, Chameleon girl!

Good game recommendations, everyone. I have hastily added a few items to my Christmas wish-list because of them.

I'm an adventure-gamer at heart-- started with TEXT adventures back in the 80's-- and thought I'd list a few that I think are cool...

Arcanum- Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

A really good RPG with a lot of free will, an immersive world, and really neat magick and technology systems that surround a really interesting and well-thought-out plot. Lots of races to choose from, Elves, Ogres, Humans, Halflings, etc.

Syberia

This is a first-person (from a third person perspective) adventure game with really good graphics, a respectable and smart female protagonist, lots of interesting puzzles and environments. Very interesting world.

The Longest Journey

This is one of the greatest (according to the critics and people who give out awards, as well as myself, the humble gamer) adventure games ever. A very strong, smart, and lovable female protagonist, an incredibly interesting and enveloping world, and really interesting characters and plot. Sounds like a book review, eh? This game is a lot like reading a very good book. If you can, check it out.

That's my $.02

Oh computer games. I grew up playing Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem...with time I moved up to Quake and I am currently stuck on level 3 or 4 (I can't rememeber) of Heart of Darkness. :::grumbles to self::: Stupie fire throwing thingies. I also have a trial version of Age of Empires that I have been playing when I have a huge chunk of free time. I don't have a game system that works, we lost the wires to our Sega, but at random times someone will pull out the old school Nintendo. Oh dear I am definitly a nerd.

Loving this game. That girl/girl massage minigame with Yuna/Leblanc is hilarious and surprising. I was not expecting it to be so blantantly sexual. Seriously, close your eyes and listen to Leblanc's lines and you'll think something totally different is going on-lol.

Web Warlock: Thank you very much for those pics. I agree that Alyson Hannigan would be perfect to play BloodRayne in the movie (you mentioned it in the thread for future Alyson roles as I recall).

Paige: I agree that Fear Effect: Retro Helix is cool and that Rain does look a bit like Tara/Amber. Continuing the games-to-movies theme, I mentioned on the 'future Amber roles thread', that it would be great if Amber was to play Rain.

I am not much of a gamer, but I'm starting to think I should try and get into it more.

I got this for Christmas - I wanted to get it sooner, but I'm not allowed to buy any video games after September, I'm supposed to wait 'just in case' someone might get them for me for Christmas. Anyway, finally started playing it and the extra's are awesome. Amber's VO is hilarious - loved her doing her Vamp Tara voice. I just wish it would have shown her doing the "Now I can really taste you" line.

Last year I was totally addicted to SSX Tricky. I'm going to start SSX3 soon... Anyone played it yet?

Ok I really love all the Final Fantasy games, though I have yet to play X-2 or 11. Right now though my favorite game that I swear I will beat eventually is Kingdom Hearts. Its my two of my favorite things in one game. Disney and Final Fantasy. Its even better cause Kingdom Hearts 2 comes out next year I think. Go SquareSoft.

My Game Faves

Postby Big Dummy » Thu Jan 29, 2004 5:12 pm

Throwin' my ha'penny into the well:

Hitman 2: cause I like espionage and sneaking games

Splinter Cell: I hate the uber-nationalism of the spots Sony has aired for it, but the actual game kicks butt! Cause, again, I like sneaking/espionage games.

Manhunt: gore, violence and...sneaking

Fear Effect: Retro Helix I finished that game, loving every minute, and it's one of the few that I haven't traded in yet simply because I saved my game around the point where Rayne and Hana "pretend" to make out in the elevator. It's a memorable moment, and the game's worth owning just for that, IMO.

GTA!!!: every single one is awesome. The new one has been released on XBox already (I saw it on a wall at my local vid game store), so I'm twiddling the thumbs until it gets released on PS2. What's with XBox getting first crack at any way?

Hey Big Dummy, you got me interested on the Fear Effect game.

Now thats one great sales pitch:p . Two questions

1. What's it about?

2. Tell me its on the PS2!!

I love GTA too, can't wait for GTA4.

Fear Effect: Retro Helix is the prequel to Fear Effect.

It's been a while since I played it but the basic plot it that Hanna and Rayne, along with two other characters Glas and Deke, are highered to find the cure for a plague that sweeping the planet. They find it and then things get very weird, and I do mean very.

It's a PS1 game so you can play it on a PS2 as well.

As I mentioned above work was started on a FE3 but it has been on hold for months now. :(

Re: My Game Faves

Postby Big Dummy » Sat Jan 31, 2004 3:25 pm

Chameleon Girl: essentially what justin said. It's sorta like Tomb Raiderish; there's a mixture of shoot 'em up and puzzles, and you spend a little time playing as each of the characters. At times it gets a little creepy too (this from the girl that can't play Silent Hill cause it scares her too much). Overall there's a lot of running around trying to find keys and what-not that you need to get to the next part/place, dodging booby traps, solving riddles, anf the occasional skirmish. I haven't played it in a while, but it was a good time.

justin, I've read about the hold-up on the next installment as well from Gamespot and such. Have you even seen any screencaps or anything? I tried to view them but somethign wonky was happening with the site. Is there any info on who the characters will be for this coming one? I assume Hana, but I wonder if Rayne will be back.

Re: My Game Faves

Postby justin » Sat Jan 31, 2004 5:05 pm

Chameleon Girl: One thing I'll add is it's a game where you have to save every chance you have becuase there are a lot of places where you'll get killed instantly. It can be rather :gnome (though FE: retro helix is no where near as bad on this front as the first FE)

Big Dummy: I read about it at game faqs there's a movie from the game there, but no screen shots. As to whos in it according to the preview there's "an attractive woman, who resembled Rain from the second game" So hopefully this means Rain will be in the game :pray That is if it's ever released

Okay, I'm gonna own up here and state I have never played any of these types of games until a few weeks ago when I got CSI for the PC. Then my partner and I bought a PS2 and 'Chaos Bleeds' and I'm hooked!

Problem is I'm stuck very early on in the game. I can't get into the locked tomb, I've been beyond the big gates and placed my piece on the sun dial and been to the church doors. I'm guessing the missing piece of the sun dial is the key to get in but as I say, I'm stuck.

Can anyone help me out here?! I'm tearing ma hair oot :gnome

Re: My Game Faves

Postby Chameleon girl » Sat Feb 07, 2004 10:23 pm

justin: Coolness, I'm gonna have to check this one out. Although if its a ps1 game, I bet i'll be searching for a while.

I like weird games though, they're always the most interesting.

Big Dummy: I like the puzzle solving sorta games. Is it a "Resident Evil" kind of puzzle solving, cause i'm getting a wierd RE vibe from the way justin talked about the saving. There aren't any rogue typewriters stashed away in the corners of the game, are there:p ? Silent Hill freaks me out too, that didn't stop me from playing the second one ;) . That game had the most amazing and mind bendingly scary storyline to it (freaking Pyramid Head for a start! Bloody hell, that sorta stuff will scar you.).

Speaking of the puzzle solving genre, anyone here played Myst, or any of it's sequels?

Re: My Game Faves

Postby justin » Sun Feb 08, 2004 5:04 am

Chameleon Girl: Yes The fear effect games are in the survival horror genre, like resident evil and silent hill. Though I'd say the puzzles aren't as complex as those in RE.

There aren't any type writers (or note pads either), The way saving workings is you have a mobile phone and every so often it starts ringing, signalling that you can save.

Oh and if you liked Silent Hill 1 and 2 then I'd definitely recommend getting Silent Hill 3. This one is more of a follow on to SH1 than 2 was. The monsters and quite as freaky but it's got a happier ending (When I played SH2 I got the suicide ending :( )

And while I'm recommending games I'd say if you've got the money then buy a game cube and play RE on that (also RE0 which is about what happened to the bravo team) the graphics are just :drool

just don't get RE2, 3 or 3.5 as these are identical to the play station versions.

Chaos Bleeds link to clues

Chino,

Here is a link to a walkthrough that I used a couple of times when I got stuck. I hate using them, but it is even worse not ever getting to the end, ya know ;)

Just follow the link to the level you are stuck on and it also tells you the locations of items. Good luck.

Re: It's to do with games... really!

Postby Chameleon girl » Tue Feb 17, 2004 3:57 am

Um, yeah. I was going to start a new topic but I didn't know where the hell to put it so I figured what the heck. :D

I'm looking for some info for my major Art assignment on the design side of the gaming industry. Like, the different stages of artwork development, for example, the artists who strictly do sketches and drawings in the storyboard stage of design, and then the people who get into the computer graphics area of designing, etc.

I had a fair look around myself but so far I'm coming up a little empty. If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.:peace

justin: Oh god, a mobile phone?! That sounds even worse than the typewriter:p . I can just imagine it, i'm walking down a very dark and dingy hallway, scared outta my wits that somethings going to jump out and kill me... then the mobile phone starts ringing and I have a heart attack, dropping dead before I even get a chance to save. Oh, the irony.

The darkness of SH2 is what I liked about it, it was all sick and twisted. I got the suicide ending too, and after all that bloody work...:sigh

Chameleon girl: if you want art works, you're gonna need to pick a specific game and check out the company that made it. eg- for FF-X, Square soft made the game, so i suppose if you check out their sites and stuff, you'll find the ppl and info you're looking for.

That's all i can suggest really *shrug* --good luck!!!!

I write part-time for a game magazine so I got to try out Chaos Bleeds at the office. I think I liked the first one better in terms of gameplay, but CB has Tara! And Willow kicking Ethan Rayne's ass for her! *joy*

I wish Amber had talked more about her work on the game or the W/T relationship in her unlocked interview though, I thought she kinda gushed about the show in general a tad too much...

Regarding the Paine voice actress... she happens to come from my country (Singapore) and quite a babe too. Interviewed her over email recently for the game magazine, she's pretty cool. ^_^
