This is too bad. Despite being a huge fanfic reader (and writer) I don't frequent the Different Colored Pens board, so I'll have to visit there in the next few days and check out what I'm sure is a great story...I'm sure that I've probably spoken to Katharyn on the board because the name rings a bell. Best wishes to her, and hope she has a speedy recovery. My prayers are with her. I hope she's back soon.

Sorry, I haven't heard a thing since her gf let us know about her injuries. At that stage Katharyn had been in hospital a couple of months. (L didn't have the password to Kat's email, and was unable to contact us sooner.) To the best of my knowledge Kat is still in hospital.

Like yourself and many other kittens I continue to keep Katharyn in my thoughts. I'm sure as soon as anyone has news they will post it. In the meantime, on Katharyn's behalf, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes and prayers.

It's just been ages since I've been on this site, and to return and read this about Katharyn, is just sad.

Katharyn I don't know you, but I have really enjoyed your story, and I thank you for that pleasure.

Katharyn -

My goodness, I know this is really late and wish I had seen this earlier, but I am praying for you everyday for a great and fast recovery. Just to let you know, I have about 130 people here that say hurry and get better soon (332nd AEW, Classified, Iraqi). Please, the first chance to update us on how you are doing, let us know. We all are missing you. Take care... =)

Thought I'd better just give an update on Katharyn. Sorry to say there is no update, and at this stage I don't think one is likely.

Just to fill you in on the background. Around this time last year Katharyn dropped offline inexplicably. I was used to talking to her on IM regularly about twice a week and we were working closely on her fic. Despite numerous emails nothing was heard from her until June last year when I got an email from her gf who told me of the accident.

Katharyn had been hit by a car and suffered serious head injuries with complications. By June she was in a specialist hospital where she was having therapy. Her gf explained that Katharyn "is outwardly not able to be quite the person she is inside, not right now anyway and may not be again".

That email was the last news I had of her.

While I pray for her recovery and for her to rebuild her life, a year down the track I have to accept that I may never hear from her again. I fear that the Katharyn I knew and loved is gone. I pray that the person she is now is happy and healthy and enjoying her life.

If I do hear from her, or about her I will post it here for all of the kittens whose friendship she enjoyed so much.

forrister, just wanted to thank you for posting this notice. i'm sure i'm not the only one who's wondered if any of katharyn's collaborators had any info on her condition, and i certainly share your sadness that you have nothing new to tell us. i'm sure this board was just one little corner of katharyn's universe, and that she is missed in many other places. i definitely missed your annual christmas fic, and i'm sure i wasn't the only one who reread your past efforts this year. thanx again for posting ~mary

*tries not to cry* I read an update on The Sidestep Chronicle which I saw was by Katharyn so I might even go back to read it, but the update got me. Its so sad to read about when I know what it feels like to be wanting to write something to get it down before it flies away. :aww

So I feel I must leave a post again with more thoughts and prayers for her, her family, her friends....*sighs* i give you prayers from the bottom of my heart. I hope things will get better as time goes on. :pray *feels urge to cry* Ok...I better go now....before I start sobbing on my keyboard....:(

Reply Re: Finally

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I feel I want to do that testing testing thing they do at sound checks. A struggle to set up an ID and a first post here on a chatboard. It might not be pretty or laid out very well. Im not much of one for email and the internet. I feel lucky to have found the thread after pages and pages and pages. I only found the search function right at the end.

I come bearing news and apologies. I'm sorry that after I let a few people know about Katharyns accident a while back I never came back to express thanks for the good wishes that had been left for her. Other things seemed more important at the time and then I just forgot. So, I'm sorry about that. They were and are very much appreciated.

Katharyn is much better now than she was in the aftermath of the accident nearly a year ago and much better than at the time I let people know what had happened. She is, now, probably as recovered as she's going to get without lots and lots of time and the continued support of the professionals who still work with her. It seems like a long time ago in many ways, but really rushed by in others. By the time we thought to update the people here, she wanted to wait until there was something relevant to say.

If I forgot something then Katharyn never did about this story of hers. Once she was physically recovered from what happened her frustration at not being able to do what she had in the past set in. A big part of that frustration had been around her writing, to the extent that its really been something we have strived for - she, I and some of her friends and relatives - to find a way in which she can write and let her creativity flow. Its been a long adjustment, but it says something about her that she had always been using her existing stories as the tool to try that. Its been very good for her to have such a goal. Finally now I think we are ready to try to help her with her wish to return to something she loves in the place she thinks it was meant to be. Writing wasn't really enough for her. She wants to tell the story and to get what is trapped in her head down on paper.

Not immediatly, but its coming. The process of her telling the story is different now, she has great difficulty working with a computer for more than a few of minutes, but that's what were working with when we can - getting around that. But as she was once able to devote a lot of her time to this once, now the people around her who'll give their time to help have their own lives as well other things she needs to be helped with. So even though a lot of the future of this story was already laid down it can't really be turned out too quickly. They've already done so much so I hope you'll appreciate the reason that this will be much slower than it was and not hassle her for more (even though I know that hassles are in truth a measure of appreciation.) This is her story and she wants to share it, but to me its just as much a therapy that she needs for other reasons.

Thank you, Lou.

*Doing Snoopy dance up and down the hallway!!!*

!!! WONDERFUL NEWS TO SHOUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS !!!

Through the wonderful typing prowess of Louise (who supplied much help - many thanks - you're solid gold) , Katharyn has posted a new part to the "Sidestep Chronicle - Second Chronicle" on Pens.

*Looking silly with big grin on face.*

I know many of us have been wishing there was something practical we could do to help Kat. Now there is. I know that feedback for her writing was always very important to her, and I warrent that now its more important than ever for her to receive that encouragement. I would ask you all to take time to read her work, add your feedback, and send your love to this amazing lady.

*Going off to do another dance up the hall with the dog who thinks she's utterly nuts but wants to join in anyway.*

Okay, this is still me typing, but we found an old spreadsheet which had this password locked away in it. It seemed fitting that Katharyn is back under her own ID. L

I never knew I had this thread. I am so embarassed to have this thread now that I know. Yes, embarassed because people have been so kind and thoughtful which is what you expect from Kittens, and neither of us knew it was here. I feel, reading the first few pages, like I should be departed. And I suppose I was as far as you knew. I deeply appreciate all your kind thoughts and words even after the fact.

Thats embarassment and gratitude now here is guilt. I was never so very active on the non fiction parts of the Kitten, at least not after I committed to fiction as my medium. I never knew I had so many friends here even though I know some of you from the feedback in my fics.

It gladdens me immensely to find the kitten and pens still thriving here and now I want to do what I can to repay the kindess this thread shows to me. I'm back and though it'll be a little tougher, I'm still not going away. At least as long as someone keeps typing for me!

Funnily enough I have more time for "writing" now than I did before its just the process that slows it down. The minds got it all but the body just ain't keeping up like it used to. Poetic justice perhaps - I spent too much time with screens at work and home and now they punish me when I focus on them for too long. They tell me that might well get better, but what we have now is working. All I have to do now is fight the guilt I feel for taking up other peoples time to service my vision and try to stay true to the story I want to tell. And why? Because whether you read my stories or not, the one thing they are all about (at least eventually) is the thing that the Kitten is all about. Willow and Tara forever - love overcoming all. I've learned a lot about love in this last year.

Thanks to you all again and I can't say that enough. Now please let this thread drop down the boards so I don't have to be embarassed anymore. :) Oh, and my wonderful girlfriend has learned about smilies - the one thing I always hated to have in my posts. And can I get her to do smiles like I used to? No. Here's another one. :)
