Jenn if you like PAscale - have you checked out Lea Pool's Emporte-Moi - 'cause she is like way sexy in that that - oh yeah- :p it's a good movie too.

edited to add that I am soooo dumb - I was looking at your avatar, and I have a crush on PAscale - you were talking about RAchel Crawford - sooo sorry - she's yummy too but french accents get me every time - RAchel was in Trader's (Canadian TV) does that help?

If you liked "When Night is Falling" you may also want to check out an earlier film by the same director called "I've Heard the Mermaids Singing."

Another wonderful feel-good movie (though you would never know by the title) is "The Butchers Wife." It's an oldie staring Demi Moore - as a blond, no less.

And if you haven't seen "Bend it Like Beckham" yet, you are seriously missing out. It is hilarious.

I haven't seen that, but I might look into it. I liked Pascale okay, but Rachael Crawford (Petra) was who made me go all ga-ga. :drool

Oh man was it EVER the bomb! :shock And ya know I am SUCH a huge fan of that evil of all evils Jack Palance. I really worshipped the guy. *sigh* Now you guys have got me missing old movies and such like William Powell and Myrna Loy in The Thin Man series. Gotta love the REAL Sherlock Holmes, Sir Basil Rathbone and Sidney Toler (and Werner Olan occasionally) as the unflappable Charlie Chan....then there's Peter Ustinov's Hercule Poirot, Tommy and Tuppenceand so many others. *cry* I SO miss Masterpiece Theater and some of the good movies.

Cheers!

Jenn - edited up top for my error - sooo sorry - forgive me?

Culzean - thanks I forgot about Mermaids, Patricia Rozema also directed and wrote White Room with Kate Nelligan, and Mansfield Park with Frances O'Conner. Frances is also in another great small flick from Austraila called Love and Other Catastrophes and her lover in that is played by Radha Mitchell :drool - so many movies are sooo good!!!!!!!!!!!

Dekalog,

No worries, love. :kiss

Hmmm, I haven't seen "Traders," but I HAVE heard of it. That counts, I guess. She was in an episode of, "Soulfood," as well. That's a series on Showtime. I didn't recognize her at first.

You know, all this talk of this movie, makes me want to go and watch it. It's been awhile. I think I'll do that. :grin

Thanks, sweetie.

Edited: I thought of another movie. :shy

The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause

Hee... I loved this movie and can't wait till it comes out on DVD in November. Of course, I mainly went and saw this because of Elizabeth Mitchell, but hey... it was good. I think I kind of enjoyed it more than the first movie. Not sure, though.

All I know is, at the end of the second one where they are showing the credits, I laughed my ass off when Elizabeth came out dancing in the Mrs. Santa suit. :rollin

Watching this movie has given me a better understanding of Orange County, California.:wink

The cast, btw, includes a very young Mary Stewart Masterson, who later starred in Fried Green Tomatoes.

It'll be the train, Walter, just the way you want it. Straight down the line.

Hooo boy, great thread!

Ladyhawke - have to agree with everyone, this is just a great movie all around. And even if it wasn't, just the beginning (the music and moon and sun footage) would make it worthwhile. The CD is one of my favorite soundtracks.

Fucking Amal - has a very real down to earth feeling AND a happy end plus two very cute actresses. And whoever said the Swedish version was the best is right. I almost always watch it with the original Swedish language (gotta love DVD) on. Of course I don't really understand anything but that is fun in itself.

The Philadelphia Story - Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant, do I have to say more? My, she was yar.:lol Perhaps my all time favorite.

Water - an obscure (I've never met anyone who knew it) British comedy with Michael Caine from 1985. Great sountrack (George Harrison) that I wish they would release on CD some time. Especially the sung petition for independence before the UN council. It just ROCKS.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - it's incredibly clever how they built the movie around and integrated the scenes of these old movies in it.

Alles wird gut - a great German comedy about two Afro-German women (Chantal de Freitas :drool ) who fall in love, complete with happy end.

Grease. Stockard Channing is my favorite in this. Both "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" and especially "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" are great performances by someone not know for her singing ability. Though Olivia Newton John certainly has a better voice, SC is better at expressing the emotions of her character through these two very different songs then ONJ ever is. But really, my favorite song is "Beauty School Dropout". Just too funny.

And for really old black-and-white movies, my favorite is Ball of Fire. It's my favorite Barbara Stanwyck movie and the only movie I ever like Gary Cooper in.

Diebrock, have to agree with you on The Philadeplphia Story. Actually, anything with Katharine Hepburn in it is marvellous.

I've been deperately trying to remember the name of a film ever since I first posted in this thread, so I'm gonna see if you Kittens can help me.

I saw this one loads of times when I was a youngster and loved it, so that would put it from the mid 80s.

It was a film set in Scotland, and the plot was basically 2 bored lads (on a motorbike) holding up tourist coaches. I think one of them wore a clown mask, and they ended up becoming cult heros.

I know there's film buffs out there (Lou where are you?), so please put me out of my misery :pray

It's Restless Natives.

www.eufs.org.uk/films/res...tives.html

Restless Natives

Michael Hoffman, UK, 1985, 86 minutes

Ronnie works in a tiny Edinburgh joke shop. He gets thumped by his customers' aggrieved mothers. Will sweeps the streets for the council. People kick over his tidy leafpiles and there's always more rubbish tomorrow.

Disillusioned, and seeking liberation, the bitter pair resort to highway robbery (thus proving they have Initiative, where it Counts) masked as clown and wolfman. Initial success brings its own problems as their alter egos gain notoriety and they dare not spend their illicit proceeds.

Restless Natives is an enjoyable cranky ride with a quick wave to Bill Forsyth as it speeds past. Critics disliked it, but director Michael Hoffmann has given the film its own quirks and a wealth of nice touches along the way. When you're not watching the Highland countryside unfold or spotting locations in Edinburgh (expect a few whispers of "Look! That's xxxxx Street!") you can be watching for the multitude of cameos by other famous sorts or thrilling to the vibrant rock sound of Big Country as it echoes down from the hills.

Ultimately, this is the kind of comedy which, if it flicks your switches, will have you continually chortliing without quickfire punchlines, and the kind of comedy you can view again and again without appreciating any less. Restless Natives is a quiet classic. Anyone like to start a cult?

Zoe,

There is a bit of argy bargy going on at work about release dates for Reloaded as Warners keep changing their minds :rolleyes First there was going to be a simultaneous global release but now (according to Internet Movie Databse - www.imdb.com ) Reloaded is getting a UK release on 23rd May while the US gets it on 15th May. I'm not too sure because distributors have been known to take their sweet time working out a final release date (Phone Booth and A Man Apart anyone? :rolleyes ) but I'm going for 23rd I think. I was originally told it would be two weeks after X2 which is released on Thurs 1st (and I am seeing Weds night yay! :bounce ) , but I think the schedules will be a little tight for Fox and Warners to go head-to-head so they may hold off a week :cry I wish they would bloody release it soon tho, the trailer is taunting me at work! The Twins look soooooo cool! Not bad for two carpenters from Carol Vorderman's Better Homes eh? :lol

Having a good day today, just found out Lostprophets are on the main stage Sunday at Reading. Time to make up for the lacklustre Brixton show last year methinks boys! :grin

Have a good day Kittens,
