Wow such an important day for tv viewing , the Gilmore Girls season ender. The good, silent Jess , Sookie as the incredibly annoying photographer, Paris with her Nanny's kids and Rory,

Luke and Jackson crying during Rory's speech and the senior Gilmore's as well as another loony town meeting. But Lorelai grow up already I was so annoyed with her it made me wish for Jess. That's just wrong.Maybe we'll get more Dean since his pilot wasn't picked up.No new episodes for months. Sigh. TV Guide did a piece on losers in network land and UPN got a gold star, while the WB had to settle for increased viewers, ad rates and critical acclaim. The article had a picture of Alexis Bledel and her cute smile.

I loved seeing Paris' open and happy interactions with the Nanny and her kids. She's got a beautiful smile, which I can't recall seeing before. Her farewell to Rory was great too. I hope we see her again next year.

We didn't get to see nearly enough of Lane, but I was glad Rory and Dean reconciled and Jess was out of the picture (or at least the audio.) I'm looking forward to catching up on early season episodes I missed because I was watching another show last fall.

Lorelai didn't bother me. Early rumblings on Season 4 suggest that Rory will start to learn some of the fine details of why Lorelai and her parents have the relationship that they do.

Gilmore Girls is the best show on television because it has the best characters on television. No one is wasted. Paris's nanny and the nanny children. The annoyed people that Sookie kept stumbling over. Even the one guest at the inn who we never really saw. Everyone had character. There's never an interchangeable faceless mass. And the depth of the talent in the cast is incredible - how else can you describe a show where Sally Struthers and Adam Wylie are bit players?

By the way, GilmoreGirls.org is now reporting that the Jess spinoff has a name - Windward Circle

Very enjoyable finale. Rory's speech was so touching and I'm glad to see they worked out her college finances, although I sense it will backfire a bit next year.

BTW, if I was just given a new car I think I would have gone to look at it. :D

GilmoreGirls.org is a good site. They also said that if Jess' spinoff fails, he might be back in Stars Hollow. Here's hoping his spinoff is a huge success. :)

I wanted to see the car myself. :)

I think, though, that the script ran way over time and they had to cut a bunch of stuff out. I've read that there was supposed to be a flashback sequence of Lorelai remembering all the good times they had at the Independence Inn. I've even seen pictures of "young Lorelai" with Lauren Graham and "young Rory" with Alexis Bledel. Since it didn't show up in the episode, I'm guessing they had to cut it for time. Who knows what else got cut?

You're right, Bob, they did cut stuff. On the GG.org site they said when Paris got behind the camera she gave a spiel about the lackluster next-year's senior class, making everyone in the line look bummed. But we didn't see that. In the show, Paris starts her spiel, then we see a quick cut to another scene.

Weird. We need a director's cut. :)

Hee, yeah, when the dvds finally get released, I hope we get deleted scenes at least.

I liked this a lot. It was very fun. Rory's speech made me all misty-eyed. So nice. And Lorelai wasn't a total ass to anyone that I can remember.

Luke's dream was weird, the first time I watched it I didn't realize it was a dream and was wtf was that?

Paris was so perfect. I really hope she shows up next year, it wouldn't be the same without her. Hee, I love Paris.

Bad news:

WB Drops Gilmore Girls Spinoff, 06.19.03 ...

High costs have helped put the kibosh on The WB's proposed "Gilmore Girls" spinoff.

Originally intended for a fall premiere and then pushed back to a six-episode midseason pick-up, the "Gilmore Girls" spin-off was to focus on Milo Ventimiglia's Jess character and his attempts to reconcile with his estranged father. Executive producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino intended to shoot the series entirely on location in Venice, California, but the price was simply too high for Warner Bros. TV.

The spin-off was set up at the end of last season when Jess left Stars Hollow, Connecticut to head to Venice, but now in theory Jess could return.

Oh darn, I was kind of counting on the spinoff to keep Jess away. Heh. Oh well. The show I've grown to love is coming back and that is good.

I'm really interested in seeing how they start off the season. I really want Paris to come back too. The show just wouldn't be as much fun without her.

I read that Paris is signed up to be a regular next year. I haven't heard about Lane. I just saw Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving recently as I try to pick up the eps I missed when they first showed. Quite fun, though really it's not that barbaric to deep fry a turkey.

Finally saw the Paris/Rory fencing scene. I think I'd been anticipating it too late as it was good but ultimately disappointing. Now I have to figure out how Rory gets back on good terms with Paris by graduation. Anyone remember?

Didn't the Chilton Headmaster decide they had to give a speech together, and things start to thaw out a bit after that and then Paris has her meltdown.

Right, and Paris' meltdown over not getting into Harvard makes Rory have to step in and console her. I think they stayed chummy after that (well, as chummy as those two can get). :)

I read on the GilmoreGirls.org site that Rory will get a child-prodigy type roomie next year at Yale. If that's true, Rory will be able to borrow on her experiences in dealing with Paris. Should be fun!

Actually, what got Paris to bury the hatchet was the fact that she had sex with her boyfriend and needed someone to talk to about it.

And oooh, there are new spoilers! I'll have to go check them out.

Ooh, spoilers!

I liked the fencing scene. I watched it again the other night and was much more impressed by it than the first time I saw it. Paris is just so hurt over the fact that Rory not only talked to whatserface behind her back but also mentioned the boyfriend that Paris wouldn't even tell Madeline and Louise about.

I loved the scene where Paris blurted out that she had sex with Jamie (in whatever other episode that was, I really suck with these ep names). That one was just classic Paris. Wanting to know Rory's thoughts on the subject.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the sex talk; that's when Lorelai comments about having "the good kid."

You know, as much as I enjoy Rory and Lorelai's relationship, I wonder how long it will be before Rory does something that isn't so "good." Not that Lorelai would ever love her less, but the kid has been so perfect thus far, and it will be interesting to see how Lorelai handles a situation where Rory isn't "the good kid."

Rory dated Jess and Lorelai wasn't too thrilled with that. But, I think I didn't pay attention to some of those scenes, heh, so I might have missed something.

I really hope Jess stays away. The character never really got on my good side and never convinced me that he really felt much of anything for Rory. I found their scenes together very annoying to watch.

Anyone seen the Aquafina commercials with Lorelai and Rory? I thought it was odd to have the characters shilling the water.

I did see one Aguafina comm amd liked it, although that's possibly because it's been a long time since I've witnessed any new Lorelai/Rory banter. The fact that they made a comm with the characters doesn't bother me, as long as Lauren and Alexis were well paid. Not sure if I'd be happy with a series of them though.

The only bad thing about the Jess spinoff being dropped is that they might try to fit him back onto the show. Ewww! They should drop the character in a large hole somewhere. And cover it securely. And forget where the hole was.

Finally, I noticed that Teal Redman (Louise) is doing a few eps, which gives me hope that Shelly Cole (Madeline) might also show up. Insert happy dance here. Hopefully the news that Dave, Laine's love interest, won't be back isn't going to shorten Laine's story arc on the show. She's up for some award in the same category as Aly though, and with that recognition she'll likely be back next season too.

I believe GilmoreGirls.org is saying that the actor who plays Jess (whose name I can't remember how to spell) does not have a contract with the WB at the moment. Unlike the actor who plays Dean (whose last name I also can't remember how to spell, although I think I could get close), who was just signed to a general contract with the network even though Young MacGuyver has been scrapped.

Yeah, Milo Ventimiglia is without a contract according to the GG site. I hated his character, but I feel bad for him as a person. I can't imagine thinking you're about to have your own show, and then suddenly you're unemployed. Man, talk about cruel.

The problem on GG was that the producers/directors went out of their way to make Jess unlikeable. I remember thinking that if he did get a spinoff, I'd never watch it because they made me hate him so much on GG. His attitude and whining got so old that you just wanted to smack him. Not a good way to woo people to a new show.

Has anyone heard when the new season starts? Maybe it's on the GG site, and I just missed it.

GilmoreGirls.org has new spoilers up! I won't spill all of them, but I will mention that Rory will have two roomies at Yale. A 16-year-old genius girl and... Paris! Apparently Paris requests to room with Rory because her new "life coach" told her that their journey wasn't over yet.

Thanks for the heads up Bob, there's some interesting news on there. But Paris being one of Rory's roommates is clearly the highlight.

Also Tyche has posted on another part of the board ,which maybe not all of us are reading, that GG comes back Sept. 23. And hey, it's already August, so that's not so long to wait.

I second that "Yay!!" for Paris. She may be all angry, uptight, scary and mean and stuff, but somehow I just like her. Plus, she's really cute.

Course, that has a lot to do with Liza Weil the actress, whose versatilty has been brought to my attention from recently seeing reruns of her guest appearances on ER (as the sad wife of the nutcase who stabbed Carter and killed Lucy), Law & Order: SVU (as an alleged rape victim who killed her "attacker" but was actually the Evil Mastermind who plotted the charade), and her role in the movie Stir of Echoes.

For like certain other gifted actresses that are revered here, when Weil does a sad/crying scene, I can't help but be moved by her stirring work. And knowing that there'll be more of her to see in GG is cause enough for celebration.

Question for the more knowledgable GG fans than me (I'm still more an admirer than a fan really). Last night I caught most of the two-hour rerun about Lorelei and Rory visiting colleges.

In the scene where Lorelei looks at all the pictures of Harvard valedictorians, she focuses on one pic of the 1990 V and looks a bit sad. Was she just regretting that she didn't get a chance to be that, or was the person in the picture someone she knows?

Ben, I seem to recall we discussed that on the old thread for GG and other shows, and we couldn't see that it was anything specific, just regret - and the usual superb acting of Lauren Graham. Who knows, though, maybe they were planting a seed, delivering a little foreshadowing the way that well written shows sometimes do. Unlike - naw, let's not even go there anymore.
