Seurat, has anyone discussed Graham's comments in the next-season promos about how pathetic it would have been if they'd had Lorelei get a job at Rory's school?

Yeah, that would have sucked, wouldn't it. The mother (or mother figure) working at the daughter (or daughter-figure)'s school to provide an unlikely reason to keep them together.

Who'd do that?

Ben, yeah, I saw that promo too. As long as Amy is writing the show I wouldn't expect them to do anything that pathetic. And Amy is writing and directing that first ep of the new season.

Now, if J.E. takes over the writing, all bets are off. I do wonder what sort of "odd jobs" they have in mind for Lorelai. Hopefully hilarity will result, I can use some of that.

I saw a promo for the new season the other day and it looked interesting. They showed a shot of Rory in her dorm room and seeing Paris there. Paris looks like she got her hair cut more than a quarter of an inch and it seems lighter. She looked damn good. Had a nice big smile and hug for Rory.

Sigh, I can't wait. Heh, I don't really remember anything else about the promo.

I think they also showed the scene where Luke tells Lorelai that he's married. It will be interesting to see how long his marriage lasts, and if the divorce affects his diner.

Just noticed there's scads of new spoilerage at gilmoregirls.org , none of which I will spoil by revealing. Well, except for one that probably only thrills me anyway, Louise and Madeline make an appearance in ep two. Happy happy. :dance

Woo, okay, the premiere was tonight. It seemed pretty mellow for a season premiere, actually. I have to watch it again because I'm sure I missed some dialogue.

Jackson was so funny with his buttons. Sookie is looking good; I was happy to see Lorelai being happy for her.

I really really really don't like Taylor. He's fine when he's giving Luke a hard time but he took up way too much of this episode for my liking.

Lorelai laughing near the end was pretty damn funny. Lauren Graham is beautiful, sigh.

I'm so happy this show is back, can't wait for next week. Paris!

Yesterday season 3 started in the Netherlands. It's a pity we're a year behind so I can't really join in, but I do get to spoil myself with this thread, heh. I look forward to both Dean and Jess disappearing. Rory could spend a few days without a boyfriend I think. I'd classify the opening episode of s3 as mellow as well really. Nothing spectacular, but sweet fun nonetheless. I am going to make sure I don't miss an episode this season and (might be of interest to Dutch kittens) every sunday night on net5 around 6 pm-ish they are airing the first season of GG.

Mellow is the perfect word to describe the new season premiere of GG. It seems to me that this is a common occurence with season premieres of a lot of shows, for whatever reason. (Well, maybe not Alias:) ) I really liked a couple of scenes, the scene between Luke and Lorelai at the end was beautifully done and ended on just the right note. Rory's impromptu speech at Taylor's event was tops too. (And I suspect we all hate Taylor.)

But the only times I really laughed aloud were at the start when Rory hugged her clothes and lusted over her sock drawer.(I can relate to this, but I think I'd be hugging my cd towers.) No Paris, or Michel or Louise and Madeline to make me laugh and the fact that let's face it, we're all waiting for Rory to go to Yale, kept this ep from being one of the best ones for me. Next week should be great though.

I thought the Luke -Lorelai stuff was terrific and the grandparent scenes seemed kind of off to me.But even with a mellow start this is the best written show on television. Taylor is only palatable when Luke is giving him a hard time.Next week Paris, yay!

Well, ep 2 of the new season of GG was on last night, and the news is still mixed. It was pretty good throughout, with some good scenes between Luke and Lorelai and Rory and Lorelai. I thought it started off a little flat, but got better as it wore on. And thank heaven for Paris! The scenes with her and her life coach were priceless. "Fish can choose not to bite." Classic. The invention of the verb "to Lorelai" was cute once but I hope they don't overuse it. I'm all spoiled for next week, which sounds like a very funny one. Louise and Madeline make an appearance, and there's lots more of Paris.

See, I'm easy a lot of the time. I really love Paris, so she makes up for a whole host of sucky things. I tend to just filter out stuff that bugs me, unless it happens to offend me or is something that will stick with me.

I was so happy when she showed up, sigh. And, heh, Paris getting her dad to make a call so she could be suitemates with Rory.

The ending with Lorelai in the house all alone was very touching.

Ooh, yay for more Paris. I read spoilers when I remember to but then tend to forget them or forget when they're supposed to happen, so, eh.

I did enjoy this ep a lot more than the premiere, so that was good.

Yes, this ep was better than the first, which felt like filler oddly enough.

Paris was a welcome addition to the season, and her interactions with the other new roomy were hilarious. Should be lots of sparks there.

I was surprised at Rory's neediness. Not that I didn't understand it, but it kind of surprised me that she had Lorelai spend the night.

The scene at the end with Lorelai alone was sad. It made me hope she gets her new boyfriend soon. :)

I had never seen 'Gilmore Girls' before moving to the US in May (it isn't shown on terrestrial TV in the UK), so I caught it for the first time in repeats during the summer, and I'm still trying to work out all the history between the characters.

Anyway, I loved last night's new ep. Paris' party meltdown was absolutely hilarious, and so was the LotR party (esp. the line about Brazilian bikini wax.) Lane is great - she's probably my favourite character - so it was nice to see her last night. It's a pity they haven't given her more screen time, but it must be difficult to keep writing her in when she's at a different college to Rory.

My one criticism of this season so far would be that it took way too long to actually separate Rory and Lorelai. I appreciate that Rory is at college relatively near by, so she'll be coming home a lot (and Rory and Lorelai are such a hoot together that I see why the writers don't want to keep them apart for too long), but even so, they haven't really spent much time apart yet. I was really curious to see how they were going to cope with Rory going away to college this season, but they only really began to deal with the separation in this episode.

Oh, and I'm glad that Jess has gone - good riddance to him. He really annoyed me - he was a total James Dean/Marlon Brando wannabe, and he was such a mismatch for Rory.

Postby seurat » Wed Oct 08, 2003 2:58 pm

Having gone ahead and gotten royally spoiled courtesy of Gilmoregirls.org , I knew that last night's ep was likely to be my fave of the season so far. And so it was. As Tyche mentioned, they finally separated Lorelai and Rory for most of the ep which was a relief because Lorelai hanging around the dorm would get old very quickly. The parties were great, both the LOTR children's party with Sookie losing it, and the dorm party with Paris losing it. And the bonus of seeing Madeline and Louise again, if only briefly. Shelly Cole (Madeline) was great as usual.

I'm really happy with the actor they cast to play "Digger", I remember him from Metropolitan, Barcelona etc. He'll be perfect in that role. The young roommate is hilarious, and eventually they'll give the athletic roommate a line. She can't complain, Michel is a series regular and he hasn't even been mentioned yet. Maybe next week. Fave line of the ep is a close call, but I have to go with the naked guy's "Yep, I'm even stupider than my brother."

The recent ep was a fun one. Paris was in good form and her line to Lorelai about emotionally stunting her child so she'd take care of Lorelai in her old age was a riot. I also loved when Lorelai and Rory talked on the phone after her grandmother redecorated the common room with $25,000 of furniture and entertainment equipment. Too funny!

Looks like next week's ep is written by Jane Espenson. I haven't been paying attention to who is writing, so I don't know if it's her first, but it looks sad as Dean gets hitched. And it looks like Rory cuts her hair.

Paris was awesome in this one.

I loved that Lorelai could tell that her mother had been in the room just by smelling the air.

Richard and Emily were great in their scenes too, they have great chemistry. I could do without that Digger guy though. I think he's trouble.

Lorelai and Sookie's LOTR party was funny. Lorelai around little kids usually entertains me, and this time was no different. Poor Sookie seems really freaked out about having kids, I thought Lorelai did a great job calming her down.

Lauren Graham is freaking hot.

Yeah, that was just kind of bleh. I really tried my hardest to ignore it but after a few particularly messy paw prints I gave up and stopped paying attention.

I wanted to smack pretty much everyone in the ep, at one time or another.

It was nice to see Lane for more than two seconds.

I do like Rory's hair. And I am really glad that Liza Weil seems to be in the credits for good this year.

Ok, positives about last night's GG. uh... Rory's new haircut is really cute, makes her look more Yalie and less Chiltonish. And I did laugh at the Persis Khambatta (sp?) line. The band scene didn't work, but I did like the listing of all the people from bands with university degrees. And the closing shot of Rory reacting to Dean's marriage, which fortunately required no dialogue.

The rest sucked. We did get to see Michel, but JE didn't do much with him. The good news is that it may not be Paris for whom JE really wants to write lines, but Taylor who we all pretty much can't stand anyway. Most of the dialogue clunked, the scenes didn't flow well, and the whole thing reminded me of a bad ep of Northern Exposure near the end of the run. :( But I'm not giving up on the show, just hoping she doesn't write too many eps.

Edited to fix a really dumb typo.

Ah, Michel. He's great fun, so it was good to see him again. Lane too. The porch thing did make me giggle (so did the conversation about which rock bands went to college), but overall this episode seemed a bit flat. I did my best to try and ignore the writing credit and judge it like any other GG episode. And - surprise - the much-promoted 'Rory has 24 hours to make a decision about Dean' (is that his name? The guy who was her first crush) thing more or less failed to materialise.

Did Rory's line about the chocolate-chocolate-chocolate ice-cream seem very 'off' to anyone else? It just seemed to be really badly timed, which was probably down to slack writing.

Also ,there was a small GG spoiler in the SF Chronicle's 'Hollywood Exclusive' column today.

'Gilmore Girls' is considering a young-woman-much-older-man storyline this season, involving Liza Weil's Paris character and a 60ish professor.

I turned off last night's episode halfway through ,and I've never done that with the GG's before.Maybe the Luke and Lorelai movie thing might have been worth it, but there's something really off about this season to me.They gained JE but they seeemed to have lost their heart, and all the rapid fire dialogue with a snotty undercurrent reminds me too much of what I hated about that other Tuesday night program.Should we consider all ME alumni potential Typhoid Mary's at this point?

Sadly Danny Strong will fit right in this show as Jonathan V.2.
