Thank you for the E.M. photos!

I'll freely admit that I went to that movie because she was in it.

Made me want to go back to high school and get sent to the principal's office. :grin

It's a nice movie. Not so good as the first, but still enjoyable. And hey, Elizabeth Mitchell.... How can you lose?

I think I'd really like to see her in a movie with Amber. I bet they'd have some chemistry. Yum!

You are very welcome for the EM photos. I have more if you would like them. :grin Hee... you're not the only one who went to see the movie because of her. That's really the only reason I went the first time, let alone the second. Might go one more time, too. :drool I don't think I would want her to be my prinicipal, if I was still in High School. Drooling over the principal... that would be kinda creepy, eh? :hmm

Dude... your avatar. OMG... am I imagining it, or am I seeing a little Amber tongue in that gif?? That avatar is totally hot. :drool :thud WOW....

Oh... and you're right. I think Amber and Elizabeth would be wonderful in a movie together. I'd be beside myself and probably wouldn't make it out of the movies without having a heart attack, but still.... :grin

heheheh

Nothing like getting a bunch of women hot and bothered. ;)

I've been having fun with avs, but the trial time ran out on the program. :sigh So unfair! I can't really justify shelling out all that money for a little toy.

As for the error message, that's 50megs doing its routine of saying I can't link. It does that every so often and then all of a sudden they work again!

And Xita, your av was definitely the inspiration. Cutting in soooooooo close to the kiss. Oh yum.

I'd still like to adjust my av, but I'm outta luck! Ah well!

Oh yeah... tv and movie stuff.

If any friends or family decide that they have to see The Santa Clause 2, I think I could drag myself back to it. ;) Who would've guessed that Mrs. Clause was so hot? :grin Yes, drooling over the principal is a bit icky, but I think I could manage it. heh Elizabeth Mitchell seems to be on my list of "if she's in it I'll see it" people. Amber is definitely on that list. I think Carrie-Anne Moss is also on the list.

Which leads me to recommending Memento. Stunning film.

Spirited Away

Postby Kalita » Mon Nov 11, 2002 8:21 am

Well, it's G-rated (at least up here), and there's no lesbians, but if you want a transcendent experience combined with a very emowered young heroine, don't miss Miyazaki's Spirited Away. Others have compared it to Alice in Wonderland or The Neverending Story or whatever, but after seeing it last night I really think it defies comparison.

Wonderful, bizarre, enchanting and uplifting. Go with some kids, there were lots at the theatre yesterday. Minimum age would be 5-8 depending on their patience level (it's a full 2 hours!) and wilingness to try something a bit beyond the normal vein.

Definite win, though. My heartiest recommendation.

While I haven't seen Spirited Away yet, I can most heartily recommend anything done by Miyazaki. In many ways he is the philosophical Anti-Joss. While both believe that the world can be a cold, hard, dangerous place, Miyazaki's characters never lose their hope or their fundimental humanity.

While Joss on the other hand, seems to feel that all a person

can do is to barely hold on and try to scratch out a meager existance while hoping that your soon to be death is reasonably quick and painless.

I know which storyteller I would rather spend two hours with.

Miyazaki is a GENIUS!!! I think he's easily one of the best animators so far in history! I am SO a Miyazaki fanatic!

I haven't seen Spirited Away yet...boo hoo! But Totoro RULED! Though Totoro never got translated to English I don't think...he's better known for his most famous creation, Princess Mononoke. And probably Kiki's Delivery Service, and Nausicaa if you read manga.

And if you EVER see a Miyazaki film-EVER!!!-you MUST see Grave of Fireflies. YOU MUST SEE IT! Unless you have a soft-heart then I must warn you do not. It takes place in World War II in Japan and centers around a 14-year-old-boy and what becomes of his family. I was so impressed by the film. Most movies glorify war but Grave of Fireflies showed the real impact of war on a personal level. The innocence of youth contrasted with the horrors of war.

I will not give away the ending but yes, the ending is sad. INCREDIBLY sad. So sad, I would readily watch Seeing Red instead. NO OFFENSE, I CRIED WHEN TARA DIED TOO!

"Grave of the Fireflies" isn't actually a Miyazaki film, is it? It's produced by his studio, but he didn't write it or direct it.

That said, it's a blood brilliant movie, and the only anime I know of that can match up to Miyazaki's for sheer visual artistry. I can't recommend it highly enough either. But have tissues handy; I never cry at movies, but this one gets me every time.

Question for the Kitties- warning: porn discussion ahead

Postby Dumbsaint » Tue Nov 12, 2002 12:39 pm

So, previous to this past weekend little innocent smutstress me had never before partaken of the curiosity of curiosities that is Japanese anime porn. I didn't catch the titles of the two DVD's from which I was treated to a handful of vignettes, but um. Yeah. My thoughts? Was it Nietzsche, or Kyle from South Park who once said, "that was some majorly fucked up shit right there." Heh.

What is with the fascination for tentacle sex? I only watched maybe four clips, and of those, two involved incest: one between two sisters, and another between a brother and sister, which also had the added highlight of showing the laving of first blood menstrual fluids from her thighs. And one of them featured a sex slave scenario that even had me, lil miss "Yes, Mistress, may I have another!" cringing at the uncontexualized brutality shown to the female characters. It was basically eroticized rape. Not so much sexy as disturbing.

So, being interested as I am in forms of creative sexual expression, I was wondering if any Kitties more familiar with this genre than I am would be up for a little discussion about it. I'm wondering if what I watched was representative of anime smut, or if these particular clips were just really out there. Any recomendations for more progressive, less squicky titles? The quality of the animation was actually pretty impressive in some parts. Laughable in others, especially the many takes I saw on french kissing. Hee. Talk about gratuitous porno tongue.

Re: Question for the Kitties- warning: porn discussion ahead

Postby LiangFeng » Tue Nov 12, 2002 6:19 pm

No, but isn't the animation to his credit? I mean, Mizayaki is the only guy who can pull off scenes like that!

Edited to say that I too think japanese porn (a.k.a. hentai) is sick and disturbing. And also let it be known that I have never gone in search of hentai, it's just that if you're an anime freak you tend to run across webbies like those.

Crossing Jordan

Postby oneinten » Wed Nov 13, 2002 9:17 pm

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not but watched Crossing Jordan (Jill is so cute!) this past Monday (11th) and saw that the next episode has a lesbian storyline in it. Unfortunately it has to do with the lesbian maybe (???) killing her partner so here we go again....

I do have to say that I find it incredibly interesting the Mariel Hemmingway is playing a lesbian again! That makes it what? 3 characters she's played (Personal Best & the Sex Monster) as lesbian or bi???

Anyways, FYI for those who like to know.

Spoilers for tonights EP....

Jen's going to have a nice time this evening!... ;)

* From AICN...

But tonight, we get to see the sizzling Lisa Vidal return as Firefighter Lopez, Weaver's girlfriend from last season. But, it's a blink and you'll miss it scene. Weaver tells Lewis she's pregnant with Lopez at her side. You have to wonder why these actors (Innes and Sherry Stringfield) are woefully underutilized. Their scenes always stand out. Weaver hugs Lewis after telling her the good news; a very subtle yet effective scene in a sometimes overdrawn flashy show.

New ABC Show

Postby LooseCannon24 » Thu Nov 14, 2002 5:21 pm

I wasn't sure if this had been posted anywhere yet, so I thought I'd bring it up. Apparently ABC is planning a show focusing on a male gay couple...here's an article about it from planetout.com...

Quote:

ABC eyes first gay detective TV series

Ari Bendersky, Gay.com / PlanetOut.com Network

Tuesday, November 12, 2002 / 04:59 PM

In a move that will put ABC on par with NBC, HBO and Showtime in regard to groundbreaking gay-themed television, the network is developing a murder-mystery detective series featuring gay partners in the lead roles -- a first in TV programming.

"Mr. and Mr. Nash," starring actor-director-screenwriter Alan Cumming in one of the title roles, will feature a gay couple living in San Francisco that has an interior design business. The hook: They stumble upon a new murder mystery each week, not unlike "Hart to Hart," a successful murder mystery from the early '80s that included lighthearted humor.

Whether this show, which is being produced by Steve Martin along with Carsey-Werner-Mandabach (CWM) -- the production team behind hits "The Cosby Show," "Rosanne," "Dynasty" and currently "That '70s Show" -- will perpetuate or break gay stereotypes remains to be seen, according to Scott Seomin, GLAAD's entertainment media director.

"This is a murder mystery show and these guys are going to be smart and will hopefully be doing some stereotype-busting," Seomin told the Gay.com/PlanetOut.com Network. "Stereotypes are based in truth and humor. We as a community can laugh at ourselves and others better than any other minority."

While shows like "Ellen" and "Will & Grace" brought gay and lesbian characters into America's living rooms, "Mr. and Mr. Nash" will be the first to feature a committed gay couple on prime-time network TV.

"There are a lot of firsts in gay and lesbian programming and this is one of them," Seomin said. "The fact that it's coming from Martin and Carsey-Werner is incredible news. Carsey-Werner has an incredible track record (with their shows), many of which have been inclusive of gay and lesbian story lines."

For this show to work, the angle of the gay relationship will have to be showcased, Seomin said.

"The show is going to be pinned to chemistry between the leads," he said. "(The relationship) will be shown and it is necessary. If they're not going to be a couple, then make them friends."

CMW will soon start looking for Cumming's perfect match and will shoot the pilot this spring. Depending on ABC's plans, the show may air in the fall of 2003.

Now, I don't know about anybody else, but this part of that article kinda bothered me...

Quote:

I sorta considered Willow and Tara a committed gay couple on prime-time network tv. I noticed they weren't mentioned anywhere in this article. Are the WB and UPN not considered networks? Or maybe they distinguish between committed "gay" couples (i.e. male couples) and committed lesbian couples? Who knows, but either way, it sucks when a website like planetout.com doesn't even recognize them in an article like this...
