Dude, the whole thing is online yay! I love this short film, it's so funny.

And this is the entire film for now , don't let the word trailer fool you.

They are making a feature out of it but the same actresses are not involved and we don't know if they'll change the lesbian aspect.

Download this now yes!

Has anyone seen a movie called Underworld advertised? It's not out till September but the trailer looks amazing. From what I can tell it is based on a computer game and is about Vampires V's a type of werewolf hybrid.

Oh and Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life is out pretty soon and looks great. I saw a good interview with Angelina Jolie last week and the interviewer asked Angelina if she was bisexual. She said of course.

*editing to add, we already have a thread for the L Word, it just has the old name of Earthlings, I'll change that too. Here's the thread.

Oh, and GG , yes I am going to watch, Queer eye for the straight guy. I think this week's tv guide had an article on it. Pretty funny. Kind of exploiting a stereotype but hey some stereotypes are based in fact.

It really seems Bravo is pushing queerness this summer. They are the network that later this month will bring us Boy Meets Boy, a sort of gay "the bachelor."

From Zap2it:

Quote:
It's Clear Viewers Like 'Queer,' Get Used to It

Wednesday, July 16 10:42 PM

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Bravo's gay-themed makeover show "The Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" drew record ratings in its premiere on Tuesday night (July 15). The show performed particularly well in coveted young adult demographics and provided triple-digit time period growth.

Overall, the premiere, which ran from 10-11 p.m. ET, drew 1.64 million viewers. Among adults 25-54, the show attracted nearly 1.17 million.

The 25-54 numbers represent an 804 percent increase over Bravo's demographic average for the 2002-3 season and a 657 percent improvement on what Bravo shows had been doing in the time slot.

The series, which features a Fab Five of gay lifestyle experts making over slovenly straight men, helped Bravo rise to No. 2 among ad-supported cable networks for the hour. Only MTV, with "Real World Paris" and "The Osbournes" did better. For the season, Bravo comes in at No. 38 for the hour.

"It's great when everything comes together - a terrific show, great reviews and now fantastic ratings. This is an example of the new energy at Bravo and the first of what we hope will be lots of ratings records to come," says Jeff Gaspin, the network's president.

TV Show 'Queer Eye' Smash Ratings Hit for Bravo

Wed Jul 16, 8:09 PM ET

Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The premiere episode of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," in which five gay men with expertise in fashion, food, grooming, culture and design remake a straight man, set new ratings records for cable channel Bravo, the network said on Wednesday.

Reuters Photo

Citing data from Nielsen Media Research, Bravo said the show's Tuesday debut at 10 p.m. ET set new records for the NBC-owned network among total viewers, households, audiences aged 18-49, and audiences aged 25-54.

The 18-49 demographic is most favored by advertisers as their core audience, while some networks rely on the 25-54 audience as a more mature target group.

Bravo said the show attracted 1.64 million total viewers, which made it the No. 2 ad-supported cable network during the hour. Bravo had previously ranked No. 38 in that hour for the season to date.

Bravo said the show's ratings were nine times better than last season's average in audiences 25-54 and more than seven times better than its average in calendar year to date.

While the show has generated significant buzz, it also garnered some critical reviews. In Tuesday's Washington Post, leading TV critic Tom Shales questioned whether the show was too patronizing.

"Forced to choose between scorn and condescension, gay people could hardly be blamed for preferring the latter -- and thus might not object to the stereotypes on parade in the series, which each week dispatches five New York gay men to rescue some poor, style-starved straight person at a crossroads in his life," he said in his column.

Bravo is preparing for the July 29 debut of "Boy Meets Boy," another gay-themed show, in which a bachelor chooses a prospective match-up from a group of eligible men. The twist, however, is that some of the men are actually straight, leaving the bachelor to try and sort out who's who.

Bravo and NBC are units of General Electric Co. .

Interesting, yes the show was full of stereotypes, but gosh it was fun. I guess what makes this marginally acceptable to me is that these aren't characters, these are people. I think ultimately the greatest thing in this show is seeing straight men relate in a very healthy manner to gay men. It's very playful but very respectful and I really enjoyed seeing that.

Re: Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

Y'know, I have to say that I really enjoyed it---but was also occasionally uncomfortable as well.

Carson (the Fashion Queen---a title I'm sure he would accept!) was waaaaay over the top, and I really flinched when he started groping (the appropriately named) "Butch." I mean, would that have been even slightly acceptable if Carson was straight, and the client was a woman? I'm afraid that Butch was more forgiving than I might have been under the circumstances. :spin

Then, in the second show, could there have been some recognition that parents w/ young children (whom we never saw, interestingly---like the gay guys performed a "kid-ectomy" on the Maltas) have slightly different priorities than (presumably) childless people? I'm not saying that their "Before" home wasn't a kid-overrun mess---just that they shouldn't be looked down on by people who've never "been there." (Again, recognizing that I could be wrong about the childlessness of the "Fab Five"---but certainly none of 'em mentioned having kids!)

I understand that the show is set up to display a certain amount of (stereotypical) bitchiness. I don't think that's really a problem, as long as it's focussed on things like the straight guy's personal slovenliness (ala "skidmarks"! :lol ). But physical harassment (and that's what I think Carson was doing w/ Butch) and expressing horror over children's toys (FWIW, woulda loved seeing the F5 babysit the Malta's kids!) only perpetuates the most negative, and distinctly *unfunny* perceptions of gay men. :sigh

Bottom-line, though, the show has a lot of potential. I just hope that the F5 learn a few things in route, as well as teach the basics of style. :peace

GG Needless to say, my Drag King side was taking copious notes! ;) Out

Video weekend

Postby MadeinNZ » Sun Jul 20, 2003 5:32 am

For the first time in forever I got 2 videos out to watch and loved them both. This is unheard of - usually at least one of them doesn't live up to expectations.

The Laramie Project - film about the Matthew Sheppard murder. Had that docu/drama feel to it and was uplifting, sad, and kind of terrifying (that people hate homosexuality so very much). Almost made this cold accountant cry. But luckily I thought of profit margins and debt ratios and felt much better.

Donnie Darko - loved this one. Its the kind of film you have to watch 3 or 4 times because you missed so much the first time. Its dark and strange and you're never sure if you totally 'get it'. Very cool.

Ooh, Donnie Darko is a very interesting movie. I enjoyed watching it and have been meaning to watch it again. Heh, it's sitting in the DVD player just waiting for me to find time to just sit down and press play.

Anyone been watching the Showtime original series "Dead Like Me?" I am loving it. Dark comedy and a wonderful cast just sucked me in right away. It's been a long time since I've been able to sit down and watch a show with my full attention, I usually get bored. Not this one though. It's fun. I highly recommend checking it out.

I was tempted to make a flip remark about how I could never tell, from Lucy's hand up Amy's skirt, that D.E.B.S. was a lesbian movie---but I see from the article that that scene ("over-the-top orgasm gag") has been taken out. :sigh

I'm also sorry that neither Clare Kramer or Tammy Lynn Michaels will be in the feature (Clare because I love her, and TL because it's great to see an actual lesbian actor get the work). But the director's happy w/ the cast (and her new Lucy/Amy coupling's chemistry) and, of the lesbian theme, "Screen Gems has been outrageously supportive"---so I guess that's what really matters. :pride

'Queer Eye' Gets Shot on NBC

Monday, July 21 12:53 PM

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Having conquered cable, the Fab Five of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" are moving on to a bigger stage: network primetime.

The lifestyle-makeover show, which debuted to record ratings on Bravo earlier this month, will get a one-time (for now) airing as part of NBC's prime-time lineup on Thursday (July 24). A condensed, half-hour version of the one-hour series premiere will air at 9:30 p.m. ET, following "Will & Grace." (NBC owns Bravo.)

"After as much media attention and a breakout premiere on Bravo, we want to offer this unusual series a bigger platform," NBC Entertainment President Jeff Zucker says. "Our Thursday-night audience makes a good fit for this special edition."

"Queer Eye" puts together five gay men, experts in the fields of fashion, food and wine, interior design, grooming and culture, and unleashes them on a straight guy whose friends or loved ones believe he needs a lifestyle upgrade. The guy is outfitted in new clothes, gets his home renovated and receives tips on other aspects of living well.

The show debuted July 15 to an audience of 1.6 million viewers, a huge improvement over what Bravo previously drew in its Tuesday-night time period.

Tomb Raider 2

Postby Gatito Grande » Fri Jul 25, 2003 10:37 pm

I'm just back from seeing Tomb Raider 2 "The Cradle of Life": you can tell I just came into some money, as this is the first movie I've seen all summer! :rolleyes

What can I say? Well, it's better than the first one---that should tell one what you need to know (i.e., if you liked the first, you're on solid ground. If not, well . . .). There were fewer *severe credulity-straining moments* than the first, as well (though they were certainly there). I just wish they'd give AJ something to do---or should I say, say: she's very good at her "75% of stunts," but there's no real script, to speak of.

And hey, since Lara Croft is basically drawn as a female James Bond (w/ a veneer of Indiana Jones), why not follow the sexual pattern of the former series? (Always a primary and secondary---if not tertiary---love/sex interest). Since everyone and their horny mother knows that AJ swings both ways, why not work that into the plot? Even conservative parts of the world would be interested for prurience sake: overall, it would up the world-wide gross by at least 50%! :applause

Failing that, could we get a Boy Interest who's more than a lump of meat? (in this case, make that haggis!:lol ) Good lord, AJ had more chemistry w/ Djaimon Hounsu (sp?), and he's better looking than What's-his-name anyway (my El Cheapo movie house always cuts off the credits, so I'm flying completely blind as to the co-stars and their names---was that Alan Rickman as the Baddie? He looked really different than I've usually seen him---heavier and more tanned, ergo made-up).

The plot (eh?): action-movie makers really need to follow the KISS Commandment (i.e., Keep It Simple, Stupid!). Especially when we're jetting all over the world (I really need a Dramamine before movies like this, in the theater), could we stick w/ *one* psuedo-science/mystical "Magguffin," and not two?

Thinking about the plot problems, brings up what these movies remind me of: the small screen, namely Alias. I'm sorry, but that show does the same thing every week, and better, than "Lara Croft Tomb Raider." I'd rather listen to AJ's fake but pleasant English accent---and Lara's got a way sexier 'tude. (Eye candy factor? I'd give it to Jennifer Garner by a dimple---but I certainly wouldn't kick either out of bed! :eyebrow ) However, on balance, Alias is a more satisfying tale of "Techno-Adventure Chicks Kick Ass." Just my 2c.

GG Heh-heh: how 'bout a cross-over? Now *that* grrl-on-grrl action would certainly pack 'em in! . . . :drool Out
