Thanks, I've never seen the short version. Have you seen the movie?

No, I have not. I think the impression would be different depending on what you saw first. I feel a little aprehension at the new one but I am sure I'll see it. What did you think , when you compare the two?

They were very similar, though the short version was more sexually explicit. The movie would fall under the romantic comedy category.

The casting was different, except for the part of Janet. The actor who plays the villian, Lucy, in the movie version is gorgeous, her name is Jordana Brewster.

If you like the short version, I would definantly recommend the movie. It was put out by Screen Gems, who should be releasing it within the year. I heard the director speak about the film at its premiere, she seemed very cool. The movie had a good message, and it stuck in my head. So I would say it is definantly worth seeing.

Thanks for the repost of D.E.B.S I love that movie. I'll see the full length one if it comes out around here or when it gets DVD release.

frau, did you see it outfest? That was my only chance but I couldn't bare the thought of spending all that money because it played on opening night.

Xita,

Yes, I saw it at Outfest. One of my friends helped executive produce it, and I was lucky enough to get invited to opening night for free. I only live 3 hours from LA, so I drove down, and it was really cool. I am an aspiring actress, so my friend knew I would love being there.

I certainly hope debs gets released soon, as I would love to see it again.

Ah, poor daily threads. They've become somewhat few and far between now, haven't they?

No, nothing's changed about the rules for daily threads. Anyone can still make them.

HELP ME!!

Postby Urn of Osiris » Tue Sep 14, 2004 4:43 pm

I'm making a desperate plea to the teachers here at the kitten. My nine year old son is having a horrible time with spelling words. I've tried so many different techniques and they seem to frustrate us all. The poor kid does hours of writing which is good practice for penmanship but he isn't retaining the spelling.

Does anyone have any tips?

Urnie,

Find a tape recorder, not just a player, but a recorder. Have him read the words & the spelling into the player. You can even have him set the words to music (music helps in learning) but the idea is to get the words repeated to him via sound instead of print. He can listen to it repeatedly.

Music makes for a good memory plant, so that might be a way to start.

I'll look for other stuff & let you know.

Dear Urn Of Osiris,

I know this does not work with all words, but sometimes certain words spell things out:

together = to get her.

That is one way to help retain some of the words.

Reading helps with spelling. I like skittles idea, possibly your son learns best by listening, or visualy/spatialy. Mayber finding out what type of learning works best for him would help determine a course of action.

Re: HELP ME!!

Postby xita » Wed Sep 15, 2004 8:12 pm

I will help as well. I think reading improves spelling a lot. There isn't anything better than familiarity with words. There are other specific phonetic rules that you can teach him. If you're interested, I could prepare a little something to cover the more useful ones. Also something that can probably be helpful is word families, onset-rimes.

Word families:

www.enchantedlearning.com...dfamilies/

If you look online for "word families" you'll find tons more. Here are some more good ones:

www.avko.org/Patterns/Pat...nglish.htm

I think if you work on that, one family at a time, it might help retention a little bit since it's not in isolation.

Opinion re Thread

Postby Gatito Grande » Mon Sep 20, 2004 3:44 pm

Just wanna offer the opinion that, instead of closing/transferring the new thread "Deep South Kittens" to the "My Town" thread, that the Deep South thread should have been changed to "Kittens from the Deep South, and other Conservative/Gay-unfriendly Places" (or something like that). I believe there are some important issues to be discussed therein, beyond "I'm from such-and-such town."*

GG I don't live in a particularly gay-unfriendly place now, but I used to, and I would have wanted to discuss how to cope w/ that, w/ others in the, um, "same place" :peace Out

*Unless there is already a "I live in a Gay-unfriendly Place" thread? I can't remember.

Re: HELP ME!!

Postby urnofosiris » Mon Sep 20, 2004 4:05 pm

I did not get the impression that thread was intended for anything other than finding out whether there are other kittens from the south. That´s a perfectly legitimate question, but where one is, more will follow. If we get a separate thread for every region in the US or the world, the Kitten would get cluttered pretty fast, and it would happen, just like once upon a time when we got a thread for almost every single town out there. That was funny, but not really practical which is why we started the my town thread. In any case, I´m not going to change someone else´s post that drastically, but if you wish to start a thread for the topic you just suggested then go ahead. I don´t think we have a topic like that. :) I suggest you keep the title as all inclusive as possible, there probably are kittens all around the world that live in gay unfriendly places who may want to talk about it.

Re: Opinion re Thread

Postby xita » Mon Sep 20, 2004 8:20 pm

I am not sure why that rose as an idea for you as I don't think "the south" and gay un-friendly are synonymous. It might be an interesting topic if every corner of the world was included as I think you'll find gay-unfriendliness everywhere. After all, I live in California and we passed that whole gays can't get married proposition.

Re: HELP ME!!

Eh: I think I assume certain degree of "every rule has an exception" sophistication here at the Kitten (much rather be gay in Atlanta or Naw'lins than, say, Turlock CA "where the turkeys come from"). But it could have been "Deep South and/or other gay-unfriendly places." It's just that the subject of the Deep South (and coping there, if you're LGBT) has come up before here on the K, and I thought the interest bespoke a need.

GG And who better to moderate such a thread than Ms. Moderator Fantastico Holley? :bow Out

. . . but it was just a suggestion. :peace

Needle in a haystack.

Postby Kerrison20 » Wed Sep 29, 2004 1:44 am

This is gonna sound very dumb, but I'll ask anyway.

When the movie "Anywhere But Here" first aired on HBO they kept showing a trailer for it like every hour on the hour for weeks. There was a song that played during the trailer that I fell in love with. Only problem is, I can't remember the words or anything. It's not on the soundtrack or the theatrical trailer. Just the HBO commercial. Any ideas??

Question

Postby Jennpurr » Sun Oct 24, 2004 9:39 pm

I was hoping maybe one of you could help me out here with this question. Can anyone tell me who Alicia Keys is dueting with in, "If I Ain't Got You?" I've tried looking this up online in several different places, but I can't find any information.

I would greatly appreciate your help.
