aaawww... Willow acting on instinct.. scared herself a bit I think :D Poor Tara thinking she did something wrong, her evil dad certainly got that thought in there good, grrrrr.

The bag that got left behind is good thing though. Gives both of them a neat excuse to meet again. Willow is probably horribly confused about what to do, she surely doesn't want Tara upset. I do wonder whats in that letter, probably something about the women of the MaClay familly all having a demon inside and other such horrible crap. Shame anybody ever believed that, grrrr.

Hopefully Willow tries the slow approach next time, heh.. should prevent her scaring herself like this. But she really has to get back and comfort Tara, poor girl is feeling all alone and sad now :cry .

Oh, I'm just really enjoying this. thanks for sticking with it. When I noticed you'd updated I'd kinda forgotten the flow so I re-read it all again. Lovely. Particularly how you depict their worlds coming together from their own perspectives. Although I really ached at Tara feeling she had just lost her one and only friend.

So hopefully you won't keep Tara feeling this anguish for too long hmm? Please?

thanks for updating

Wonderful update!! I could go for some more right about now!! :grin

~Ashley~

Willow: We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know... insane.

Tara: I said quirky.

Yay!!!! An update. :bounce :bounce :bounce

I have been looking forward to an update to this story. I never get tired of first meeting stories. Things are flowing nicely, and I am sitting on pins and needles waiting for more.

All I can say now is Come back, Willow!!! Come back!!!!! She has to go back for her bag eventually. :grin

Are we going to get to read Tara's letter?

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

I'm glad that you all like the story so much. I think an update will come sometime next week. I'm alternating between this story and my other story Happily Ever After, trying to keep the updates from being so far apart.

As for Tara's letter from her mother. I'm not sure we'll ever know what it says, maybe bits and pieces here and there. Anyone who has read any of my other stories knows that I won't keep poor Willow and Tara in anguish much longer. What can I say, I'm a sucker for happiness and romance in my fiction.

aww, Willow's way to comfort Tara was just so sweet. And i loved the "Don't cry for me Argen-Tara" part! :)

Now they are both confused and each thinks she did something wrong.

Great update! :)

Title: Broken Wing

Rating: PG-13

Disclaimer: All characters belong to Joss Whedon.

Notes: Just a refresher of what the suite that Willow, Buffy, and Anya live in. There is a commone room which doubles as a living room/kitchen, coming off this room are two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Each bedroom and the common room all have doors that lead into the dorm hallway.

Part 12

"Where is she?" Xander asked rushing into 214 Stevenson.

"In her room," Buffy said moving from the sofa over to Willow's door with Xander.

"What happened?" He asked putting his ear up to Willow's closed door.

"We don't know," Anya said from the sofa, barely taking her eyes off the television to answer the question. She really didn't understand the concern over Willow. It was only a couple of classes after all.

"All I know is she came flying through here crying last night, then she locked herself in her room and hasn't come out since. Not even for her classes," Buffy said.

"She missed classes?" Xander stated more than questioned.

"Not just any classes, the first-day-of-class classes," Buffy said. "And they weren't regular old required classes, Xander, we're talking science classes. And she won't let anyone in. I tried all night, and all morning. This must be huge, whatever it is... maybe she'll let you in Xander, you've known her the longest."

"I'll try," Xander said listening through the door again for a minute before knocking. "Hey, Will, it's Xander, can I come in?"

"No! Go away!" Willow shouted.

"I'm not going away, Will," Xander said, "and if I have to, I'll break down the door."

"No you won't, we both know you can't do that, Xander," Willow said.

"Okay, you're right, I can't, but I can have Buffy break it down," he said. "If this door isn't unlocked by the time I count to three, I'm gonna have her do it," he said pausing briefly before starting his count. "One... Two and a quarter... Two and a half... Two and three quarters... Two and seven eights... Come on, Will, don't make me, make her do it... Three." Xander brought his foot back and kicked the door as a warning.

"Okay, okay, but only you," Willow said unlocking the door and letting Xander pass through.

"I could have broke my foot you know?" Xander said coming into the room limping slightly.

"I know," Willow said with a pout as she sat back down on her bed.

"Will, what's wrong?" He asked sitting down next to her.

"Nothing, I'm fine," Willow said putting on a fake smile.

"Yeah, cause people with tears running down their face are usually fine," Xander said.

"Tears? What tears? There are no tears coming from my eyes. I don't know what you're talking about."

"Well, how about these tears," Xander said cutting her off as she wiped his thumb across Willow's cheek, and showed her the wetness.

"Oh well, yeah, there are those, but technically, those are tears that have run, not tears that are running. You're really gonna have to be more specific," Willow said. "I mean what's the point of you coming in here to talk if we're just gonna run around the issues. If we did..."

"Will," Xander said putting his hand up stopping her, " What's wrong? Why are you so upset?"

"Xander I just want to pretend it never happened, okay?" Willow said looking down at her lap. It had been ages since she and Xander really talked like this, and she wasn't sure she wanted to start things up again by telling him something as huge as her current problem.

"Sure, you can pretend, but it won't work. Trust me, I know. Remember New Year's Eve when we were 12, and I came over to your house just before midnight? I had that black eye, and I told you I tripped and hit my face on a rock on the way over?"

"And we didn't have any steak, so I made you put salmon on it," Willow said smiling as she remembered how much Xander had baulked at her puttting the stinky fish on his face.

"Yeah, and even though we both knew what really happened we never talked about it. I carried that around for a lot of years, Will, because I wanted to pretend it didn't happen..."

"Xander, it did NOT smell THAT BAD! And besides, it was only for like... a week, nothing in the way of YEARS!"

"Will, I think we both know I wasn't talking about the fish... although it DID stink. I just don't want you to carry this problem around with you like I did mine. It's obvious you're upset, won't you please talk to me?" Xander pleaeded softly, squatting down in front of his friend and giving her a much needed hug. They had been through so much together, and not just demony apocolyptic stuff either, real life stuff, like Xander's dad hitting him that night, and Willow's parents never being around. They had always got through it together. They were always there for each other. 'This really isn't any different,' Willow thought. Sighing heavily, she let it all out.

"I don't know what happened," Willow said breaking down. "One minute we were talking, and everything was fine, and the next I was having all these feelings, and I said something stupid, and then I ran out."

"Uh... you gotta help me out here, Will. I'm not sure I understand," he said frowning.

"Okay, what if I had a secret," Willow said switching gears, " and I kept it from you for a long time, would you hate me?" Willow asked.

"We all have secrets Will, what on earth is this all about?" Xander asked more confused than ever.

"I'm not talking about 'stealing a cookie' kind of secret. I mean we're talking 'a humongous, in your face' kind of secret," Willow said.

"You're just confusing me more," Xander said. "What do secrets have to do with you crying?"

"Everything!" Willow said throwing her hands up in frustration as more tears started to flow.

"Hey, come on, spill it, what's the secret, Will?" Xander asked pulling her close.

"This isn't exactly the kind of secret one can just blab out. It's delicate," Willow sniffled.

"Well, then why don't we wrap you up in bubble-wrap, cause either you're gonna tell me the secret so I can help, or we're both wasting our time," Xander frowned, standing up as if he were going to leave.

"I'm gay," Willow blurted out.

"Yeah," Xander said.

"Yeah?" Willow said. "That's your reaction to the biggest news I've ever given you?"

"Yeah," Xander said shrugging his shoulders and sitting back down, "I kinda knew."

"What? You knew? How could you possibly know? Becasue I had no idea what so ever! And what's with all the fix ups if you knew? See? I knew this was something you wouldn't accept... and if you won't, how could I possibly expect Buffy or the others to? Now do you see why I'm so upset.. I mean."

"Will! Wait a sec! I said I kinda knew," Xander said. "I didn't know, know until you told me just now, and being the good friend I am, I would have continued to fix you up with guys until you told me you like girls. See I accept it, and so will everyone else."

"You do? You dont' hate me now?" Willow asked softly.

"Of course not," Xander said. "Will, we're best friends."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, and besides this is great, now I can fix you up with some hot chicks," Xander said smiling micheviously.

"Xander," Willow said playfully swatting his arm, "that's unnecessary."

"Because...?"

"Because," Willow said as she started to cry again when she remembered what happened, "because I already like someone, but I blew it."

"I'm sure it's not that bad," Xander said hugging Willow. She rested her head on his shoulder.

"No, it is. I ran from the room, we were just talking, and I ran out. She must hate me now."

"Nobody hates Willow, it's impossible," Xander said firmly. "You just freaked out, it happens."

"It does?" Willow asked lifting her head off his shoulder and sniffling.

"Yeah, it does," Xander said. "So, who's the vixen?"

"Tara."

"Oh, cute Tara from my math class?"

"That's the one," Willow said smiling as she wiped her eyes. She discovered it was impossible for her to talk or think about Tara without breaking into a smile.

"Excellent choice. Does she know?"

"Have you completely lost your mind? Of course she doesn't know," Willow said. "At least I don't think anyway. I told her she was beautiful. Oh God, Xander, you don't think she knows do you?"

"Easy there," Xander said putting his hands on Willow's shoulders to help calme her. "You've told Buffy she was beautiful before right?"

"Yeah, okay, right. It's a friend thing," Willow said momentarily relaxing and then, "promise me you won't tell ANYBODY, ANYTHING we talked about," Willow said in a bit of a panic.

"I promise," Xander said crossing his heart, "but why can't Buffy know?"

"Because she'll think she's helping and she'll do something and then Tara will find out I like her... and I don't even know if she likes girls, and if she does like girls, that doesn't mean she likes me. I mean boys like girls and boys don't like me, well that's not really true either cause not all boys like girls, some boys like boys just like some girls like girls, how do I know if she's a girl who likes girls?"

"Who Buffy?"

"NO! Tara," Willow said. "What if she finds out about me, and she hates me and we can't even be friends anymore."

"Relax," Xander said. "Nobody finds out until you tell them, okay?"

"Okay," Willow said taking a deep breath, "You're right, I'll tell people when I'm ready."

Cordelia stood in the dorm hall outside the door to Willow's room, her hand poised to knock. She had come over to beg for Willow's help on their first sociology project, but the knowledge she now had was far more valuable. She owned Willow.

I'm looking forward to more. I too am a sucker for happiness and romance.

Aaawww... Willow being all upset and missing even *science* classes, *gasp* :) . I liked that Xander persisted in trying to talk to her, someone had to really. Cordelia standing outside isn't good but it's not all THAT bad either.

Just depends on how much Willow wants to stay in the closet and for how long. Got no experience with those issues to thats hard for me to judge, but giving in to blackmail never solves anything... have Buffy *cough*talk*cough* with Cordy. Heh..

Poor Tara has no-one to talk to though, makes me sad :( . She definitly needs someone to hold her through those nightmares she has of home. I'll volunteer Willow for that job :D

Awww, poor Will. Xander was so sweet and determined to help - he really is a cutie. I loved the babble but Cordelia needs to learn it's rude to listen in on other people's conversations - I recommend the Slayer point it out to her.

But poor Tara, she needs someone to open up to about Willow, maybe Grace?

Great story

Just read your fic in one go and wanted to say I am really enjoying it. I love Willow babble and her different colored notebooks, and the fact that she has bumped into Tara twice already :)

You've set the scene with Tara so well, what with her managing to escape from her father, then having to fend for herself, not having enough money to pay for books (or mocha's) :cry . I like the fact she has the job in the magic shop though & the connection there.

I am really looking forward to how you are going to get W/T together, although I am also a little worried about Cordelia.

Looking forward to more

As always, I'm honored to be posting this part on behalf of Spencer who has been feeling very under the weather for the past few days. She didn't want to keep you lovely kittens waiting any longer, and asked me to do the honors for her. Get well soon, Spencer!

Title: Broken Wing

Rating: PG-13

Disclaimer: All characters belong to Joss Whedon.

Notes: Leaving the refresher on the layout of the suite that Willow, Buffy, and Anya live in because it is mentioned again in this part: There is a common room which doubles as a living room/kitchen, coming off this room are two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Each bedroom and the common room all have doors that lead into the dorm hallway.

Part 13

Xander had just left his friend and gone back out into the common room of the suite when there was a knock at Willow's door. She quickly glanced in the mirror and confirmed her suspicions that her hair was a mess, and was reminded that she was wearing baggy red pajamas, and had puffy red eyes to boot. She really didn't want to open the door and let anyone see her like this, but she supposed it couldn't hurt to find out who was there.

"Who is it?" Willow asked walking over to the door.

"Cordelia," she said in a sugar sweet voice.

"Really?" Willow asked slightly confused as she cracked the door to peek out.

"Yes, really," Cordelia said, "Can I come in?"

"Actually, I..."

"Thanks," Cordelia said forcing her way into the room.

"Uh, no problem," Willow said rolling her eyes as she closed the door.

"You look like hell," Cordelia said when Willow turned around.

"Thanks," Willow said sarcastically, "Look, I'm really not in the mood to do anyone any favors right now, so whatever it is you want, can we just do it later," Willow said exasperated.

"Oh, I think you're gonna want to hear what I have to say, now," Cordelia said switching quickly from her fake niceness, to her Queen bitch mode.

"Oookay," Willow said looking at her quizzically.

"Let's just say I found myself in the right place at the right time, and I now possess information that could destroy you," Cordelia said as if she were a predator stalking her prey. "How lucky for me."

"What do you want?" Willow asked, biting back the rage she was feeling.

"What I want is to ace all my classes and convince Daddy that college is a waste of my time. The question you should be asking is how can you help me do that," Cordelia said eyeing Willow.

"Fine, how can I help you do that?" Willow asked when she realized Cordelia wasn't going to continue until she did.

"That's better," Cordelia said, "but drop the attitude. Now seeing as how you asked the proper question, I will give you the answer. You can do my work."

"I have six courses, I don't have time to do your work," Willow protested.

"Make time, because if you don't, I guarantee everyone will find out your little secret," Cordelia said moving to the door, "starting with Tara." She opened Willow's door to find none other than Tara standing in the hall ready to deliver Willow's bag. Cordelia chuckled as she walked by her, "Speak

of the devil..."

"Tara," Willow said standing in the doorway.

"W-w-w-willow, hi," Tara said as she ducked her head, hiding behind the long blonde locks. She was only going to drop the bag off in the hall, she wasn't planning on seeing Willow.

"What are you...." Willow asked.

"Y-your b-bag," Tara said holding it up.

"Oh, I must have left it yester..."

"Yeah," Tara said not letting Willow finish. She handed Willow the bag. "I sh-should," Tara said turning to go.

"Tara, wait," Willow said. Tara stopped and turned around, but didn't look up. "Can we talk?", Willow asked.

"T-talk?" Tara questioned nervously.

"Yeah, I just want to talk about... Can you come in?" Willow asked noticing the prying eyes they were drawing from students passing by. Tara reluctantly went back toward the room and stepped in. Willow closed the door and continued, "I wanted to talk about last night."

"L-last night, I u-understand," Tara said still looking down at her feet. "I j-just wanted to d-d-drop off your b-bag."

"No, I don't think you do understand," Willow said.

"N-n-no...I do..," Tara said looking up, "It's o-okay, you... you don't h-have to be my f-friend."

"What? Tara... no... I so want to be your friend," Willow said rushing over to Tara and taking her hands. "I acted like an idiot last night. It wasn't you at all, you didn't do anything wrong. I did, and I want to apologize to you for leaving the way I did."

"You w-want to apologize?" Tara asked looking back down.

"I kinda thought I just did, but yeah, I do... Are you okay by the way? I didn't mean to upset you by running out," Willow said with a frown.

"I'm good," Tara said, relieved to still have her friend.

"Good, so anyway, I am so sorry," Willow said. As she hung her head she noticed their hands were joined, so she slowly pulled hers back and went to put them in her pockets only to discover she didn't have any pockets because she was still in her pajamas. She was in her pajamas and her hair was a mess and Tara was in her room talking to her like that. Willow's face blushed to the same crimson color as her hair in no time, and she tried to think of something to do with her hands. Tara was also looking for some place to put her now free hands and found herself staring up the sleeve of her sweater as if there was something very interesting inside it.

"So...can we still be...friends?" Willow asked after a few moments of nervous silence.

"F-friends, yes" Tara said looking up and revealing a shy smile.

"Yay, us," Willow said beaming. "Oh, hey, um... we, and by we I mean Buffy, Xander, Anya, and me, were going to go to dinner, do you want to join us?"

"I d-don't w-want to intrude," Tara said.

"Friends can never intrude," Willow said. "So do you wanna?"

"Sure," Tara said smiling again.

"Great, everyone's out there," Willow said pointing to the door leading to the common room, "Let's go."

"Um... Willow... don't you w-want to maybe c-change?" Tara asked. She had noticed Willow's cute pjs right away.

"Change? Why...you don't like my out..ohhhh..., she paused as Tara pointed to Willow's outfit in the mirror, she had forgotten again that she was still in her pajamas. "Uh... thanks," Willow said blushing.

"I'll just change real quick... you can wait with them if you don't mind."

"Okay," Tara said smiling brightly.

Willow closed the door after Tara left, and leaned back against it. Everytime she saw Tara smile, her knees turned to jello, and she had just made Tara smile a lot. 'Control yourself, Rosenberg,' she thought, 'Tara is a friend, just a friend, for now.'

Heh,

Advice to Willow: tell everyone you care about you like girls. After that write some mayor essays for Cordelia in such a way she'll get an F is she's lucky.... sit back and enjoy the fall-out :devil

Maybe Adam is around and wants to study anatomy, Cordelia would do for that as well. Do I ever hate blackmailers, grrrr....:rage

Willow not realizing she's talking to Tara in her pj's, heh... I doubt Tara minded much :) Of course Willow wants to be Tara's friend, Tara needs to get rid of the idea she's not-worthy.

Okies, now a reply :) Oooh I hope that Willow doesn't let Cordelia run all over her : It's a tight spot cuz she either follows with the demands or everyone finds out what she isn't ready to tell. Awwww, it's just so adorable when they're so shy around each other, and Willow in her pjs is very cute :D

Grimmy & Ralst: I think Willow is just too nice to flunk Cordelia on purpose.

Nickole: Yes, they are friends for now, but maybe sometime soon they'll become more than that. Sorry to leave it there, but it gets better, I promise. :D

Michelle: Hi, thanks for giving me some feedback.:wave And thanks for the get well wishes. I think it's safe to say that Willow and Tara will continue to be shy around each other for a little while longer at least. You I know I do shy very well.

Rose 24: I too hate Cordelia, which is why I made her evil in this story. I thought she'd make a great villain.

Hopefully I'll have an update ready soon. Thanks for reading.

Hello Kittens-

Just wondering how smart it is to blackmail a witch that another witch is very fond of. Oh well, no one ever said Cordy was a Rhodes scholar.

Thank you for your work, Spencer.
