Part 1 - Moving in

"Baby, is this the last box to bring up? I don't think the staircase is my bestest friend after this move." Willow panted audibly while having some difficulties carrying the box up the stairs.

"Yes dear. We are almost done! Just a few more steps!" Tara followed right behind Willow with two big bags. She too was visibly tired. Her long silky blond hair was just slightly out of place. It covered half her flushed face, her blue eyes barely noticeable.

Willow has just accepted the job offer from Page&Rum Networking in New York. It is one of the biggest network companies in the state. Their attractive incentives were too hard to resist. On top of the fat salary she would be receiving, they had even sponsored her a place to live in and paid all the expenses for the move. Of course they had thrown in a car at her choice as well, but she hasn’t picked it out yet.

It was not an easy choice to move away from Sunnydale where her friends need her. But Buffy, Xander and Giles were so supportive of her getting on with her career. It is definitely a wise decision to work at Page&Rum. Besides, they convinced her they would call her immediately should they need help. Willow was no more than a couple hours ride away. With Tara agreeing to move too, there weren't many reasons for Willow to stay at Sunnydale. While on one hand the couple would be away from their friends, on the other it was an exciting prospect to start their life together they looked forward to very much.

It was a good thing the furniture arrived a day before them and were all in place. The king sized bed, the fridge, the sofa and television stood proudly. But on the remaining space in the apartment, boxes of different sizes filled every square inch of the place. It certainly looked like a mess.

Willow popped herself unceremoniously on the couch after stacking her box on another one. She didn’t have another ounce of strength left to do anything else. She slump body lay lifeless against the soft cushion. Tara sat down beside her looking unbelievably at their things. Even though she is a tidy person, she too felt it wasn’t a time to do any unpacking. Bringing all the boxes up two storeys was enough for the day. Now Tara regretted not having the movers do their belongings. She thought it would be fun moving together with Willow. However she didn’t expect both of them to be out of shape. The demon and vampire slaying back at Sunnydale was toning down but surely it didn’t render them helpless like damsels in distress right?

"Hello?" A young man in black sweater stopped in front of their opened door. "I'm Shane. I live just upstairs. You just moved in?" He had a friendly smile but one could tell he was nervous. He fidgeted unconsciously, leaning his weight on one foot then the other. He looked as though he didn’t know what to do with his hands. He adjusted his frameless glasses more than once although they hardly moved from the top of his nose bridge. His floppy hair didn’t seem to like staying in place.

"Oh oh yes. Hi, I'm Tara." Tara stood up quickly and gave a shy wave. Willow attempted to move her eyeballs from where she was sitting but made no movement otherwise. "Erm, she's, she's Willow." Tara pointed to the redhead on the couch. "She's too tired." She continued with an apologetic shrug. She tucked her stray hair behind her ear in a swift manner while looking from Shane to Willow and back at Shane again. She half expected Willow to sit up but it didn’t happen.

"It's ok. I know how tiring moving can be. I'm just upstairs if you need anything ok? Er, later, later I will be upstairs. Gotta go to the cinema at the moment." He talked quickly and gestured vaguely down the stairs. "Catch you gals later!" He disappeared quickly as soon as he appeared after receiving a nod from Tara.

"Oh sweetie, you can't move can you? Tired huh?" Tara said sympathetically to Willow.

"Uh huh. I think my limbs are on strike. I can only move my eyeballs and mouth now." Willow still didn’t move.

"Hungry? Shall I fix you some pancakes?" Tara put her hand on Willow's thigh.

"Only if they are funny shapes."

"Why don't you go take a bath first?" Tara rubbed Willow's thigh affectionately.

"Only if you come together!" Willow replied excitedly after sitting upright in a blur that couldn’t be spotted by the naked human eye.

"Vixen!" Tara teased. She broke into a fit of laughter together with Willow. "I thought you were tired?"

"I was tired. Not anymore! I need some Tara yummyness right about now." With her final words, Willow stood up to lock the door. She threw Tara a seductive look on her way back to the couch. Grabbing both Tara's soft hands in her's, Willow willed her lover to follow her into the bathroom.

Part 2 - The Morning After

It was a bright and early morning the next day. There was a steady flow of sunlight into the girls' room. The boxes from the previous day were still pretty much in their own place. Willow and Tara were still on the bed under the covers, in deep slumber. Willow had a smile on her face as their bodies intertwined together perfectly.

"Ohh Tara. Naughty naughty." Willow giggled with her eyes still closed, her smile widened. "Sweetie, you got to stop licking my eyebrow though I love it very much." She continued to talk with her eyes closed. "Persistent today aren’t we?" Willow finally opened her eyes and came face to face with Miss Kitty Fantasico. "Miss Kitty! Are you hungry huh? Are you? Are you?" Willow continued with her baby talk as she removed herself slightly from Tara and scooped the kitten into her hands. Miss Kitty licked Willow's nose as if proving her point. "Ok. Let me find your dish and pour your some food. Sorry we ignored your last night. Kinda busy you know?"

Willow got up from the bed and tried not to disturb Tara. Her angelic face partially covered with disarrayed blond hair couldn’t look any better like this. Except with her signature lopsided smile. The simple gentle breathing motion of her body seemed to exude peace all around the room. Willow couldn’t wait to get back into the bed with her lover. Her feet were getting cold too. All she wore was an oversized shirt that barely covered her thighs. But first she needed to feed Miss Kitty. As soon as she turned her back on Tara to leave the room with the kitten, she heard Tara stirred.

"Remember to wash your hands first baby." Willow heard Tara's sleepy talk. Tara smiled with her eyes closed. "Come back soon." Tara started to pull the blanket blindly towards her as she let more hair cover her face.

It was all Willow could do, put on her silly grin even though Tara couldn’t see her. "Ok! Will wash hands first." Willow tiptoed out of the room.

Tara could hear Willow looking for the kitten's food. Willow was opening boxes and mumbling to herself. She smiled when Willow finally exclaimed to the kitten she found what she needed. Tara also vaguely heard Willow say something about cold feet. It only made her smile more. It wasn’t before long when Willow came onto the bed again. Tara opened her blue eyes and met green ones greeting her. She leaned forward and captured Willow's lips for a morning kiss.

"Did I tell you waking up with you every morning is one of the best things in my life?" Willow asked while trying to snuggle as close to Tara as possible.

"Yes sweetie. Only about one thousand six hundred and eighty-seven times?" Tara teased. "But you can tell me that anytime. I feel the same way too." Tara hugged Willow closer if it were still possible. They stayed like this for a few minutes, not talking. Each bathed in the warmth of their love. If only the moment lasted forever.

"Excited about your new job?" Tara asked softly as though trying not to disturb the stillness. Her head rested on Willow's shoulder. She could hear very soft heartbeats.

"Sort of. It is a prestigious company after all. And they came for me. I think the pressure to perform is starting to roll in." Willow answered while stroking Tara's arm absentmindedly.

        "But you know right?"

        "Know what?

        "That you are the best?"

"No I'm not. You don't have to make me feel better."

"But why else would they hire you right? They only hire the best." Tara could feel Willow smiling even though she wasn’t looking at her. "I'm thinking about finding a job too."

"Tara, you don’t have to work!" Willow spoke with a sense of urgency and assurance. "My pay is more than enough for the both of us. Comfortably."

"Sweetie, you don’t expect me to stay home all day right? I'll be bored to death." Tara retorted.

"Er, yes quite true. But take your time ok? And if you get a sucky boss, come straight home! Though I don't think anyone can be mean to my sweet Tara."

        "Yes ma'am!"

"Hmm.. I'm thinking about getting that new car today." Willow announced.

"Promise we clear the boxes first? Which car do you have in mind?"

"BMW Z3 boxster, fiery red." Willow said proudly.

"Do they come in red sweetie?"

        "Er, I hope so?"

"We can go check it out later. But first we must get out of bed. Feel like moving yet?" Tara sat up and looked directly at Willow. She tucked some stray hair away from Willow's face.

"I was hoping you'd ask that much later."

"But what are we going to do now?"

"I believe we have some unfinished business from last night?" Willow suggested hopefully.

"Like what?" Tara pretended to be innocent.

"Did you turn evil overnight?" Willow pouted.

"Come, let me make it all up to you. You are too difficult to resist when you pout." Tara started to lean in to kiss Willow again.

It was only 10am. The girl would have all the time in the world to unpack. Willow was starting to think living alone with Tara was going to be a bundle of surprises. Only the good kind. Not to mention, much distraction.

Part 3 - Car Searching

It was coming to late afternoon when the couple was done putting everything aside. The whole place looked a lot more like the lover's love nest. The boxes were all gone. Their bedroom was decorated with a simple big comfy bed that stood proudly in the middle. Cupboard and dressing table are not to be missed. Both wooden with a varnish polish finishing. In the next room, Willow set it up as her workroom. On the long and wide table, there were 2 laptops, 1 printer and some speakers. Wires ran all over the place. Bookshelves with many various topic books covered the walls. It was a good thing the movers did the moving for those shelves. There was also a couch at the far end of the room. In the living room, the TV and couch were the essentials, but there was a 2nd hand piano on the left hand side of the room. It was from the previous owner who didn’t want it anymore. Tara thought it would be a good idea to keep it. It was such a beauty with it's fresh coat of polish on its majestic black paint. It hardly looked 15 years old when it's keys were still sparkling white.

Both girls had their casual blue jeans on. Tara wore a silky white top with long sleeves. The white top didn’t have to do much to accentuate her sparkling blue eyes. Willow, not to be out done chose a body hugging black wool t-shirt. You wouldn’t know what hit you if you saw her across the street.

"Do you think its going to be cold outside?" Willow asked while she looked into the closet.

"I think so. Saw the News just now. Why don’t we bring along the jackets just in case?" Tara said thoughtfully.

Willow took Tara's black leather jacket out from the closet and helped her lover put it on. While Tara adjusted her hair to fall on the collar nicely, she spotted Willow smiling to herself.

"Why are you smiling to yourself sweetie?"

"Oh! Am I?" Willow giggled as she hurriedly put on her own red coat. "I was just admiring my girlfriend's good looks."

Tara couldn’t help but blush. She could never get used to Willow complimenting her. Though compliments did come frequently. She was half sure Willow was just trying to be sweet. She grinned widely nevertheless.

"Really? But look who's dressed like a She-Devil. Out seducing poor unsuspecting women!" Tara poked Willow's side playfully before trying to lock the door.

"Me? She-Devil? Oh yes you are right! But there's only one person I want to seduce." Willow replied challengingly. The next thing Tara knew was Willow had pulled her in for a passionate kiss that made her knees weak. "Seduce managed." Willow declared with a sly grin when she broke the kiss. The girls broke out in uncontrollable laughter.

At this moment, they heard footsteps coming from upstairs. It was Shane with his signature nerdy glasses and shy looks.

"Hi Shane." Willow greeted. "Sorry about the other day. Limbs weren’t responding."

"It was no big deal. You girls going out?" Shane asked. He tried to sweep his hair out of his face in vain.

"As a matter of fact yes. Do you have any idea where Zing Wheels is? I'm supposed to go pick up a car."

"Its not very far from here. You turn left on the main road. And turn right on the 2nd turn. You can't miss it." Shane replied.

"Ok thank! Where are you heading?" Tara asked.

"Cinema." Shane gave a smile that said he didn’t want to elaborate at the moment.

The girls nodded and Shane was gone down the stairs in a hurry. They gave curious looks but didn’t say anything. On their way down, they saw another couple coming up the stairs. They were dressed like affluent people with branded clothes shouting that all over. The man didn’t even acknowledge their presence but the lady gave them a brief smile.

"Come on Lynn. We haven’t got all day." The man went up the steps briskly while the lady tagged behind. Her smile disappeared. Neither of them looked like they were very happy. Nevertheless, the girls continued on their way.

It turned out to be less than a 10 minutes walk. It was a good thing the place was still open. It was nearly 6pm. They walked over to the counter where a lady looked at them expectantly with her practiced smile.

"Hello. I'm Rena. Can I help you?" She recited with precise flow, like some line she says a few hundred times a day.

"Hi, I'm Willow Rosenberg. Page&Rum said I could come and pick up a car I want."

"Oh yes. Miss Rosenberg. Yes, I was left with instructions that you would be dropping by one of these days. Do you have any car in mind?" Rena said.

"Do you happen to have any BMW Z3 Boxster around?" Willow asked with a trace of excitement in her voice.

"Certainly. We have quite a few in our showroom. If you would just step this way and follow me." Rena waited for the girls to make a move before she turned around and went through a door that led to the showroom.

Just as they followed Rena into the big room, Willow eyes lit up the moment she saw the beauty. It was the Fiery Red Boxster she was looking for. It beckoned her with an invisible finger. She gave Tara's hand a quick squeeze before running to the car like a kid with a new toy. She got into the car quickly and felt the leather seats caressing her back. By the time Tara walked to her, Willow stepped out and announced, "I'm taking her home."

I believe the only thing I have to say about this chapter is that Willow has a great taste in cars. Leather seats, red car, BMW. I have wanted a BMW since I first saw one. Of course, unless I make it big like Willow, I will never have the chance to own one. Thats all I have to say about that.

Part 4a - First day of work

Time flew over the weekend. All Willow and Tara did was tidy the house further and try to personalize their new place. It was a lot cleaner after all the sweeping, moping and wiping. Willow realized she acted like a cleanliness freak when she saw the dirt stains on the toilet tiles. She got on her knees and did relentless scrubbing until Tara came to see what was going on.

They also did some grocery shopping to fill up the fridge. Tara couldn’t bear the sight of an empty fridge. It simply won't feel like home with it being empty! They bought yogurt, juices, ham, eggs, tuna, apples, celery, carrots and the list went on. It was a good thing their Z3's booth was big enough for their wild supermarket spree. Nothing stopped Willow from buying 5 packs of marshmallows. She insisted they were of different flavours and thus had to try them. The little trouble they went through to carry everything up 2 storeys was worth it.

On top of those things the lovers accomplished, it was amazing they even managed to sneak in some time to explore the neighbourhood on foot. It was also a good break away from the heavy housekeeping. They found a pizzeria called "Raul". It was packed! They quickly decided to visit it when it was less crowded in the future. Another place they came across was a kindergarten named "St. Andrews", but no children were around at that time of the evening. Tara could imagine the kids running around in the day around the playground. What a lovely sight! There was also a bakery nearby that was difficult to miss with it's tantalizing pasties behind the display window. They bought some French loaves at the encouragement of the friendly boss.

*****

Monday morning came too quickly. It was the first day of work for Willow. She was dressed smartly in black blazer and matching pants. A crisp white top was visible under the blazer. Tara had earlier busied herself with making breakfast for them. Mushroom and tomatoes omelette was on the menu along with mango juice. They sat opposite each other at the dining table while savouring the food.

"Tara baby, you are a wonderful cook!" Willow exclaimed unbashfully. She felt a familiar warmth filled her as she thought where on earth did she get such good luck to meet Tara and be part of her life. She reached over and held the blond's soft hand in her own. Willow's thumb idly rubbed Tara's index finger. She gazed helplessly into the blue eyes. There was an undeniable sparkle in them that would bound to light up anyone's day.

"Are you trying to get yourself out of work today Willow Rosenberg?" Tara teased. Her face was slightly flushed as she too felt the same warmth at the touch of Willow's hand. She was entranced by Willow's beauty. That same pair of green eyes she fell in love with was fixed unto her. She felt time should freeze at moments like this. There was no one else in their world, just them and their deep love for each other. She let Willow play with her finger knowingly.

"How do you know?!" Willow reacted. She displayed mock shock that made her a strong contender for any acting award.

"I know there is something you want whenever you look at me like this!" Tara flashed her lopsided grin.

        "I love you Tara… "

"And I love you too Willow. But you still have to go to work today."

"That was very anti-climax." Willow pouted.

"Sorry sweetie. Are you having work jitters?"

"More like butterflies threatening to fly out of my mouth. Worse than frogs." Willow shivered. She shook her head as though trying to get rid of the images. She stood up slowly and went over reluctantly to the couch where her laptop case was.

Tara followed Willow. She hugged Willow from behind when the redhead stopped at the couch.

"Feeling better now?" Tara asked in her soothing voice after a few seconds.

"Much. You have a way of calming imaginary insects and animals huh?" Willow replied as she leaned back comfortably into this similar position. Their bodies fit into each other's perfectly.

"I will be waiting for you when you get back ok?" Tara turned Willow around to look into her green eyes.

        "Promise?"

"Promise." Tara kissed Willow on her forehead so as not to ruin her light makeup. "Drive safely."

Tara stood at the doorway while she watched Willow walked down the stairs. She went back into the apartment only when the redhead's back view disappeared.

Part 4b - First day of work

When Willow arrived at her company, she stood in the lobby and bathed in awe. "I'm going to be working here. Me. Willow Rosenberg." She thought.

"Miss Rosenberg?" A tall burly man in a blue suit started to walk with wide steps over to her as soon as he stepped out of the lift. His voice knocked her out of her day dream.

"Did I get in trouble already? Am I late?" Willow panicked with widened eyes. "Its hardly 8am!" Her internal monologue continued. She swallowed hard.

"Miss Rosenberg." The man said more urgently when he arrived in front of the redhead. "Would you care to follow me this way please? Quickly. We are having an emergency." He held her arm firmly and ushered her into the lift even before she could reply him.

"Er how do you know who I am? Did I get into trouble? I certainly hope not. I'm not late am I? But.. but its not even 8am. Was my car too expensive? Where are you bringing me?" Willow said all that in one breath. She hardly blabbered anymore when she was nervous. But old habits died hard. Especially when you are nervous on your first day of work.

When inside, she saw the man slide a card at the mysterious mechanism just beside the lift door. He also turned a key that Willow hadn’t noticed before. There was no reply. At the same moment, she realized there weren’t any buttons in the lift like normal lifts. How could she escape if there wasn’t a 'door open' button?? She panicked even more! "I'm certainly not going to go down like this!" She thought. Images of Tara finding her dead in the lift sent cold shivers up her spine. Seeing the blond's sorrow stricken face was too much to bear. She took an instinctive sharp step back and raised her palm facing the guard. Her mind raced for a protective spell.

"Who sent you?" Her voice lost the fear and panic she felt earlier on. She stared hard at the guard and that finally got his attention.

"Miss Rosenberg. Sorry for not explaining earlier. But it is essential we get to the Main Operations Room immediately! We are facing the worst virus we have ever seen. Vital data of our company is now being copied to a remote source and being deleted from our server as we speak. Our best people have been called in at 4am when this Code Red situation was discovered. But I'm afraid their efforts have been fruitless. Mr Coden requested your immediate attention to this situation. He is waiting for us. He sent me to get you as soon as we saw you arrive from the CCTV. Thank god you are this early." He talked quickly.

"Oh. So you are not here to kill me?" Willow's features soften. She gave an apologetic smile.

"Are there people after your life?" He spoke with the same seriousness.

Just as she wanted to speak, the door opened to a roomful of people. Everyone was rushing here and there. They appeared to be in various state of distress and undress. Ties and jackets where draped carelessly over the chairs and some even on the floor. Others have shoes missing on their feet. Some people supposed they work better without them. The most sophisticated computers in the country were all there. But one could tell easily there was a problem they were all trying to solve. The scene reminds Willow of a beehive.

"Willow!" Mr Cohen could be seen advancing towards her. He seemed to be the only one who was still properly dressed. His suit no doubt looked expensive and his blond hair was combed back slick with wax. He was a good-looking 40 odd year old man by any standards. Willow met the president of Page&Rum Networking a few months back. She recognized him instantly from his picture in Frobes Magazine. He was named one of the 10 most outstanding men in 2003. He had gone to look for her personally in Sunnydale and was persistent about her accepting the job. No expenses was spared. He also knew his offers were simply too hard to resist. 'No' wasn’t an answer for a man like him.

Willow shook his extended hand. "Hi Sir."

"Hello. I'm sorry to be putting you in this predicament. It was my every intention for you to set up your email, passwords and read mindless company history notes for your first day of work." He chuckled. "But this virus is out of hand." He turned serious. In his mind, he wondered if Willow could be of any help. But she was his last hope. Had he not put his trust and faith in this young lady? Her grades were outstanding and he was rarely wrong in his judgment. Plus, she was the only person he sought after personally. That was definitely the first for him.

He began to lead her into a separate room at the back. Nobody was there. "This is where you can access to the mainframe of our system. We were alerted of the nameless virus around 4am. It has been 4 hours and we haven’t got a clue what to do about it." The big screen in front of the desk came to life. It showed a blank screen with a cursor prompting for the next command.

"How much information have you lost?" Willow asked while she took her position behind the computer. She had her resolved face on. Her fingers danced around quickly on the keyboard as the big screen came to life with various complex commands.

"Its not about how much information I've lost. We always store our backups at another location. Its about how much the hacker knows about our system. We could lose millions and millions." Mr Cohen urged.

"I understand. I tried to block the virus from copying any more data but that didn’t work. Its very clever. The hacker overwrote my commands almost immediately. Its definitely an expert here." Willow explained without looking up. Mr Cohen nodded as he saw what she was trying to do from the big screen. As the frown on his forehead got deeper, he saw a smile formed at the side of Willow's lips.

"What do you have in mind? He asked.

"I've pinpoint the location of the virus and built a maze around it. It seems to be working. At least it will stop the damage for awhile. I'm fooling it into thinking its copying our data while actually its being fed with information from the Guinness Book of Records. You know the virus can't actually understand and process what it is copying. Only the hacker who sent it will know. But at the impossibly fast rate the virus is copying, it will take the hacker some time to look and realize all the information is coming from the Book of Records, repeatedly." Willow replied eagerly. She hoped she was scoring some points.

"Brilliant! Lets find the culprit. He is going to get into so much trouble!" Mr Cohen exclaimed excitedly.

"I was just analyzing the various IP addresses I managed to find out. It is as complicating as my maze I must say." Willow frowned. She paused slightly to process the information on her screen. "If I'm not wrong, the hacker is right here in New York."

"Keep up the good work Willow! I will get the others to find out who could have done this. There are not that many hackers in the world that we cannot manage. Update me once you have any leads." Mr Cohen stepped out of the office and gave his orders to the employees. The situation remained tense.

"Alright. Let's play hide and seek." Willow mumbled thoughtfully to herself. She got a feeling it was going to be an exciting day ahead. Her fingers resumed their dance on the black keyboard.

Who was the mysterious hacker? Why send the virus?

I'm still here, still reading, I promise!

Sorry I haven't left any feedback in a while, things have been a little hectic the last couple days.

I'm interested to hear more about Shane, and Willow's boss too, not to mention this mysterious New York-based hacker (hmmmmm)....

Hey, I just found this fic, and I like it! Willow is such a little brainiac.

And you know, Cohen is my last name! Is Willow's boss related to me?

It's insulting to the whole gender[sic] of rap.

Part 5 - Tara

When Tara has seen the last of Willow's back down the stairs, she stepped back into the apartment. She sighed inwardly and wondered what she was going to do for the rest of the day. Her eyes wondered round the empty living room and spotted Miss Kitty sitting contently on the window sill over looking the busy street down below. Willow was probably driving out her car at that instant though her scent still lingered in the room. Tara moved over to where the kitten sat and let her gaze fall onto the red car that was driving away along with the redhead. Kitty meowed loudly. Like she knew Willow was leaving. Tara scratched the kitten's chin absentmindedly.

"I know Miss Kitty. That's Willow on her first day of work." Tara spoke while not taking her eyes off the car until it turned a corner and disappeared. "Wanna watch me do the dishes?" Tara started to scoop the kitten into her hands just when the phone rang. She couldn’t get to the phone in time before the voice machine took over.

"Hi," came Willow's voice. They had recorded their greeting message the day before out of fun. "Tara and I can't come to the phone right now. We are busy. The naked kind… "

"Hello!" Tara quickly picked up the receiver after taking three huge strides towards the offending machine. She knew how the rest of the message went. What was between naked and the end of the message, you won't want to know. Or at least Tara wasn’t planning on letting anyone know. She blushed furiously while remembering every detail of the message. Sure enough, it involved some kind of kinkiness. Somewhere along the line of soft breasts and warm cuddles. She couldn’t believe neither of them remembered to delete Willow's playful greeting.

"Tara?! I can call back later if you are occupied." Dawn broke out laughing.

        "Dawnie!"

"You are not naked are you?" Dawn asked half seriously.

"Don’t you have school or something young lady?" Tara retorted. But she was very glad Dawn called. She wanted to call the Slayer's Family but was too busy with the move and the cleaning up.

"Yes I have to go to school in 5 minutes." Something in Dawn's voice said she missed Tara a lot.

"I missed you Dawnie." Tara spoke.

"I miss you too Tara. So how's New York." Dawn tried to sound nonchalant. She didn’t like the rumbling in her tummy whenever she remembered the couple was no longer staying with her. But she understood the part was inevitable. She didn’t want to be the one holding them back.

"Everything is fine here. Willow just went to work. Its her first day and she's very excited. But you know its not quite the same without you around." Tara confessed. Over their short period of stay in New York, she has been going about the apartment thinking Dawn would pop up somewhere. When she was the supermarket with Willow, she briefly considered buying peanut butter because Dawn loves them.

"Maybe I can visit during the holidays?" Dawn suggested hopefully.

"That's not even a question young lady! You must come! If Buffy is ok with it of course."

"Ok cool! I will check with Buffy although the holidays are 3 months away." Dawn groaned inwardly. "I have to go. Send my love to Willow."

"Have fun in school! Call whenever you can. Take care!"

"I will! You too! Bye!" Dawn hung up the phone before the tears that welled up in her eyes threatened to fall.

Tara hung up the phone carefully. She walked purposefully into the kitten. There was battling of the dishes to be done. Tara doesn’t hate doing the dishes but nobody loves doing them neither. However it was still something to be done. She decided to finish up quickly and go explore the neighbourhood again.

Half and hour late, Tara stepped out of the apartment. She had a simple blue sweater on. She fumbled into her bag to look for the keys. It was somewhere in there.

"Bye sweetie. I will be back in 2 weeks. Take care." Tara heard a man's voice along the corridor. She glanced up behind and noticed it was the couple she saw the other day on the stairs. They stayed in the apartment adjacent to her's. She saw the man kiss the lady on the cheek routinely. With a luggage in hand, he strode past Tara without taking a

look at her. Tara turned her attention back to her bag.

"Tara?" Someone called out on the same floor. When Tara glanced up again, she and the lady were the only ones around. "You must be Tara right? Shane said you have beautiful blond hair." The lady walked over to her barefooted with an outstretched hand. "I'm Lynn." There was something about Lynn that made you want to look at her. Thin was the only possible word to describe her. She has silky brown hair that almost reached her waist. Her eyes exude the most childlike expression, but there was some sadness in her smile. She would look like a lost child if she were 5 years old. But Lynn must be around 25 or 26.

"Oh hi. Yes I'm Tara. Nice to meet you." Tara smiled at her neighbour's friendliness. She noted Lynn was wearing a white sleeveless top that did nothing to hide her small tanned frame. Those red batik wide pants seemed to make her legs endlessly long.

"That's Vincent." Lynn pointed aimlessly down the stairs. My husband."

Tara nodded and gave a reassuring smile. Being apart can never be easy. "You should meet Willow someday."

"Is that red BMW boxster her's? Never seen it before down at the carpark." Lynn giggled.

"Yes it her's. She's absolutely in love with it."

"Great car! I wanted one myself. But Vincent doesn’t like me driving convertibles. You should put on more clothes. Its cold outside."

"Oh is it? Ok. Thanks for your heads up." Tara started to open the door.

"Hey, I'm having a party on Friday at my place. Do come by with Willow ok?"

"Sure! We would love to come."

"See you around then!" Lynn turned and walked back into her own place.

Tara nodded eagerly. She stepped into the apartment to reach for her scarf. She hates walking in the cold. At least when she's alone. Willow wasn’t around to huddle together. Her thoughts drifted to Willow again. She missed the redhead. She wondered how was the first day of work.
