Part 49

Tara stood in the living room of the cabin looking out the large window and watching her children play together in the snow. All the wonderful things she had in her life still amazed her. When she was younger and dreamed about her future, it was just like this. Well, maybe not just like this. They had a few more children than she thought she wanted when she was younger, but now it seemed like they didn't have enough. She smiled as she watched the kids throwing snowballs back and forth at each other. Jesse batting down one that was about to hit Mitchell. Summer darting back and forth with Rhiannon on her back so she could get close enough for her little snowballs to reach her siblings. Rupert sneaking up on Soleil, only to have Mitchell save his sister. She and Willow had worried about how he would fit in with the other children and if they would accept him as their brother, but after being with the family for only a day it was like he had always been there. He was such a sweet little boy, always willing to help in any way he could. It was evident in his actions how much he cherished having a family. As Tara continued watching the kids, she noticed that Summer and Harris were on the same team for once, which made her smile even more. They were so different she had thought they might never be friends, but now they seemed to spend a lot of time whispering to each another and laughing, instead of fighting or ignoring one another. Tara was pulled out of her reverie as she felt two slender arms wrap around her from behind, and she leaned back into the embrace.

"Whatcha doin?" Willow asked resting her head on her wife's shoulder.

"Watching the kids," Tara smiled.

"Who's winning?" Willow said, watching the snowballs fly through the air.

"I think Jesse, Soleil, Rupert, and Mitchell," Tara replied, "but it's hard to tell."

"Well they do have more people, so it really isn't a fair fight," Willow pointed out.

"Are you suggesting we have one more to even things out?" Tara asked playfully.

"No," Willow said laughing, "Don't go changing my plan on me."

"I won't, and couldn't without you anyway," Tara said as she turned around so she was facing Willow. After gazing at her wife for a moment, the blonde slowly leaned forward and captured her lips in a kiss.

"Mmmmm, I never want to leave here," Willow stated, swaying back and forth with Tara to music only they could hear.

"It is nice," Tara said dreamily. "Maybe a little more cold than I prefer..."

"Are you going to complain about the weather?" Willow asked shocked.

"No, no complaining here, just an observation," Tara smiled. "I really am going to miss the lack of complaining that's been going on since we got here. Though I am afraid we're going to end up with a house full of sniffles when we go home, and then there's going to be lots of complaining."

"Why sniffles?" Willow asked.

"The weather change," Tara answered.

"Weather does not cause the sniffles," Willow said with certainty, the scientist in here beginning to show her face.

"Then why is that every time people go from cold weather to warm weather or vice versa, they get the sniffles?" Tara asked.

"I have no idea, but sniffles are caused by germs," Willow said matter of factly.

"We'll see," Tara said smiling.

"If you're right, I'll be your love slave for life," Willow smiled.

"You're already my love slave for life, darling," she reminded her wife as she leaned in for another lingering kiss.

"Hi," Rhiannon interrupted with a smile as she squeezed in between her Mommies.

"What are you doing in here?" Willow asked picking up her daughter.

"They sent me in," Rhiannon said between giggles as Willow kissed her over and over. "We want you to come out and play with us."

"You mean you want to throw snowballs at us," Tara questioned.

"Uh huh," Rhiannon nodded with the innocence that only a young child bears.

"Ok, go tell your brothers and sisters we'll be right out as soon as we're all bundled up," Willow said putting her down and giving her a light pat on her bottom as she watched her run off to spread the word.

"You do realize we'll be fighting a losing battle," Tara said as she put her boots on.

"Why do you say that?"

"Oh...I dunno...seven against two," Tara said smiling.

"I have a plan," Willow said, waggling her eyebrows at her wife.

"Don't you always?" Tara responded coyly.

"Yep, and it's a good one too," Willow said leaning over and whispering in Tara's ear.

"This worries me," Tara stated as she and Willow walked outside, not a child to be found anywhere.

"It's an ambush," Willow whispered, raising a garbage can lid just below her eyes, and going into battle mode.

She motioned to Tara where she thought the kids were hiding and instructed Tara to raise hers too as they crept around outside. Suddenly from all directions the snowballs started flying. There was no way to avoid them all.

"We have to wait for them to reload," Willow said laughing as snowballs pelted them from every corner of the yard.

"We're toast," Tara said falling back into the snow and giving herself up.

"Do you surrender?" Rupert yelled from an undisclosed location.

"We surrender," Willow said falling back next to Tara.

"We win," Soleil yelled as she ran out from her hiding spot and tackled her Mommies, followed by Rhiannon, Mitchell, and Rupert.

"Do we have to leave tomorrow, Mommy?" Rupert asked.

"I'm afraid so," Willow frowned.

"I don't like it when the vacation ends," he said rolling off his Mommy.

"Me either," Soleil said.

"We have to go home," Jesse said, "Some of us have school."

"All of us have school," Summer corrected.

"Not all of us," Jesse said, "Momma doesn't go to school, Mom doesn't go to school, and neither does Rhiannon."

"No, but Mom has work," Summer pointed out, "And Momma teaches Christopher and Rhiannon so that counts."

"Fine," Jesse said rolling her eyes.

"Who wants hot chocolate?" Tara asked, when she was finally free of the children on top of her.

"I do, I do," Rhiannon said excitedly as Tara watched hands shoot up from each of her children, as well as her wife.

"Okay, everyone inside and we'll have some hot chocolate," Tara said.

"And a ghost story by the fire place?" Mitchell asked.

"And a ghost story by the fire place," Willow said smiling as the kids ran inside, leaving both Willow and Tara laying in the snow. Willow stood up, and offered her hand to Tara who gladly excepted. "I love you," she said when Tara was standing.

"I love you too, Sweetie," Tara said leaning forward and kissing her wife.

"Ewww, gross," Rupert said, "You do that enough at home, this is vacation!"

"Really," Summer agreed, holding the door open for her mothers.

"Now I can't wait to get home if it means I get to kiss you as much as want," Willow said smiling at her children who looked at her with disgusted faces.

"Now I really wish we didn't have to go home," Rupert groaned.

Part 50

Willow sat at her computer making plans for Rupert's birthday the following month, while Tara sat in their bed pretending to read, but mostly watching Willow type. It was birthday season in their family, and it seemed like there was one celebration a month. Rupert was going to be turning nine, and Rhiannon, their little baby would be four the month after that. One more year and she'd be starting school and Tara would be left by herself all day long. Well not entirely alone, because Willow would be there working, but it wasn't going to be the same. She knew they had decided on seven children, it was the plan, but she couldn't help the fact that every fibre of her being wanted another one. She missed having a baby in the house, changing diapers, late night feedings, more diaper changing, rocking the baby to sleep, watching it change every day. Tara had been waiting for the right moment to bring it up with Willow, but knowing how much she hated deviating from their plan caused her to procrastinate a little more every time she thought of bringing it up.

"Why are you staring at me?" Willow asked coming over to the bed.

"I was staring?" Tara asked innocently, closing her book and placing it on the night stand.

"Yes, you were staring," Willow said crawling into bed and snuggling up next to her wife.

"I was just thinking," Tara said rubbing her hand over Willow's arm.

"Serious thinking?" Willow asked, turning her head so she could see Tara.

"Well... Not too serious," Tara said smiling briefly. "Do you realize that Rhiannon is almost four? Another year and all our kids will be in school. Jesse will be in college."

"It's hard to believe isn't it?" Willow said. "It seems like just yesterday we were dropping her off for her first day of school. Are we old?" Willow asked sitting up and looking at Tara.

"No, we're not old, we're just not young anymore," Tara said giggling. "You distracted me. I was going somewhere when I started this conversation."

"Oh, I'm very sorry," Willow said smiling, "please continue."

"Thank you. So as I was starting to say, the kids are growing up so fast and once Rhiannon starts school, I'll be here all by myself, and with Jesse leaving for college we'll have two empty bedrooms, and I..."

"You want to have another baby," Willow stated, gently cutting Tara off.

"Uh huh," Tara said, nodding meekly.

"What about our plan? Do you really think we can handle

another child?"

"I know all about the plan," Tara grinned crookedly at her wife, "and...I don't know, we've already got seven, if we can handle seven, we can definitely handle eight. People do it everyday. You don't want another baby?" Tara asked sadly.

"I didn't say that," Willow said turning her entire body toward Tara and taking her hands. "I just thought once Rhiannon started kindergarten, you would go back to school and get your degree. Do you still want to get your degree?"

"I don't not want to get it," Tara shrugged, "but right now I want another baby, while we still can...I mean we aren't getting any younger. I can't explain it really, it's just like every ounce of me wants so badly to be a mother again. School will always be there, and I just want this so much," Tara sighed, on the verge of tears as she pleaded her case to Willow.

"Baby," Willow said pulling Tara to her, "you don't need to convince me, I know you really want another child. I've known for awhile," Willow said smiling as Tara pulled away with a shocked look on her face. "You think after almost twenty years of marriage I can't tell when you want another baby?" Willow asked laughing as Tara playfully swatted her. "I would love to have another baby with you," Willow said looking into Tara's eyes.

"Really?"

"Yes, really," Willow said, "but I am not giving birth to it."

"Good," Tara beamed, "because I want to do that too."

"And that is one of the many reasons that I am deeply, completely, and madly in love with you," Willow said leaning forward to kiss her wife.

"Do you want to take a practice run at creating this baby?" Tara whispered as she nibbled Willow's earlobe. "It has been awhile since we've done the spell."

"Will this involve hours of making love?" Willow asked bringing Tara's mouth back to her own.

"Many, many hours," Tara said pulling back from the kiss just long enough to answer.

"I'm in."

Hey all!

Thanks for the compliments to this story, though I must reitterate that I'm just Mainer's little beta reader...I don't write this great story! ;)

I can however, be held responsible for any delay (or lack there of in one case) in the posting of the last 5 parts, as well as the next 7 however...so by all means, direct all the complaints in that area to me. :angel *ahem*

My sentiments regarding this fic and Mainer's writing talents are pretty easily summed up: :bow

Let's hope between the two of us we can get this story finished for all the groovy kittens that have shown their support and thanks for it over the past year...! :)

PART 51

"Okay, Jesse, just focus and concentrate," Willow instructed. "You can do this. Just balance the elements. And remember, it's okay if you don't get it the first time."

"You know, I could do this a lot easier if you'd stop talking," Jesse sighed as she turned her attention to her mother, "and you're standing too close, how do you expect anyone to be able to concentrate when you’re practically standing on top of them?"

"I was just trying to be supportive," Willow frowned.

"Well, be supportive from a distance, and silently at that," Jesse said turning her attention back to the barbecue.

"Haven't you ever heard of matches?" Alex joked as he walked by shaking his head.

"Argh! This is hopeless, there’s too many distractions," Jesse stated.

"Oh please," Summer said coming over, "Ignis incende," she said gesturing at the barbecue, which erupted with fire and then died down to a steady blaze.

"Show off," Jesse said, glaring at Summer as she walked away with a smug look on her face.

"Jesse sweetie, it just takes practice," Willow encouraged. She knew how much it frustrated their oldest daughter that magic came so easily to her younger sister. Frankly, the strength of Summer's power frightened both she and Tara. Summer could pull off a difficult spell without so much as breaking a sweat, and if she combined her powers with Harris the two sisters could probably levitate the house.

"Whatever," Jesse said walking away to join Alex under a tree.

"No luck?" He asked as Jesse sat down next to him.

"I could have done it," she said defensively.

"I know," Alex smiled.

"Okay, because I could have," Jesse insisted.

"Do you get the feeling this is a lot more fun for everyone else than it is for us?" Alex asked plucking the grass.

"What do you mean?"

"These barbecues," Alex said turning to look at his best friend. "Our parents hang out and talk and laugh, and the kids run around and play, and we just sit here, like lumps."

"I never really thought about it," Jesse shrugged.

"Maybe we should do something," Alex suggested.

"Yeah," Jesse agreed, but neither of them made any attempt to move. After a few minutes of sitting in silence, Alex spoke.

"So do you think I should tell my dad today?"

"What? You know, you're getting worse than my mom," Jesse said. "Stick with a topic and then respect the flow. Should you tell your dad WHAT?"

"Do you think I should tell him about Gabe today?"

"Not here," Jesse replied.

"Why not? I think here is the perfect place. I've got you and your Moms here to support me," Alex reasoned.

"Well, if I were gay and I was gonna come out to my parents, I wouldn't want such a large audience," Jesse explained, "Besides it's not like we aren't right across the street if they freak out."

"You think they’re gonna freak out?" Alex began to panic.

"No, no, just relax," Jesse said sighing heavily, she glanced over at her Momma, and wondered how she always managed to say the right thing.

"What do you suppose they're talking about?" Tara asked Anya as she turned to where Jesse and Alex sat, catching Jesse's eye for a moment.

"Stuff they don't want us to know," Anya stated as she smiled knowingly.

"Sex," she and Tara said in unison.

"I can remember explaining sex to Jesse when she was just a little younger than the twins. She asked how Willow and I did it if we didn't have the right parts," Tara said laughing.

"And what did you say?"

"I believe Will's exact words were, 'we make do'."

"Yes, Xander and I have been watching you two make do every night for the past month," Anya said waggling her eyebrows.

"I wish you wouldn't look in our windows," Tara said blushing.

"I wish you'd buy blinds so I wouldn't have to," Anya retorted.

"We have blinds," Tara said, "that's why all you see is our silhouettes."

"Ohhh, oh well," Anya said shrugging it off, "so what's the special occasion? Why all the sex lately?"

"Don't tell anyone, but we've been trying to get me pregnant," Tara said smiling, "and I think I might be.

I haven't told Willow yet, so you can't tell anyone. I don't want to tell her until I'm sure."

"You're going to have another baby? Are you two crazy?" Anya asked.

"Possibly," Tara smiled.

"Eight kids. I have all I can handle with my two boys."

"I'm so excited," Tara beamed.

"When do you find out for sure?" Anya asked.

"Well, you know our shopping trip tomorrow?" Tara said smiling as Anya laughed.

"Look at them laughing, what do you think they're talking about?" Xander asked as he and Willow stood around the grill flipping burgers.

"Sex," they said in unison.

"Speaking of sex," Xander said.

"We weren't speaking of sex," Willow protested, "they were."

"No, but it's a good segue," Xander said smiling, "so speaking of sex, what's with the burst of energy in your bedroom lately?"

"Don't you two have anything better to do than look in our windows?"

"Sometimes," Xander said, "but you didn't answer my question."

"Okay, but you can't tell anyone," Willow said, "Tara and I are trying to have another baby, but I think something went wrong."

"Wrong? What do you mean?" Xander asked concerned.

"Well, we were trying to get Tara pregnant, but I'm a couple weeks late. I think I'm pregnant."

"Wow," Xander said.

"I haven't told Tara yet," Willow frowned, “She wanted so badly to be the one carrying this baby, I don’t have the heart to tell her until I know for sure.”

"And when will that be?" Xander asked.

"You know my shopping trip with Buffy tomorrow?"
