Hey Kittens - I should have another update ready by Tuesday evening. That's the plan: give the Kittens an alternative to 7.4 or a pick-me-up after watching it. In the meantime, here are some more thank-yous

tommo - Hi Ruth. Oh please use tampon as much as you like! And no, that wasn't squicky was it? For some of us perhaps, the squicky bit was the reappearance of Oz in Willow's thoughts ... And I've given some thought about setting you up with Jo and on reflection, no - bad idea. She's far too clueless, she'd drive you crazy and then I'd be without one of my favorite writers. Thanks sweetie.

barnabasvamp - Hey, BV. Nope - I didn't think it was squicky and I know squicky. Just don't ask how.

MadeinNZ - Hi Nicky. I can raise your ewww: Warren in tight speedos....

molsongrrrl - Hey. Thanks for reading straight through. There will be more soonish.

TromDeGrey - Hi. I think I'm in a sensual mood. So sit back and enjoy. Thanks.

hondosfirst - Hey Rose. Um, squicky means "not nice" or "icky" or maybe "gross". If I saw something squicky I might say "ewww". Anyway thanks for reading.

I think a lot of her experience with squicky comes from having three cats who seem to think regurgitation is a way of life. The ones we find right away are bad enough (and neither of us has particularly strong stomachs for that sort of thing); the ones they hide, that turn up weeks or months later ... well, let's just say that squicky would be a very kind description.

Of course, she could also be thinking of some of the green- and gray-furred stuff we've found in the refrigerator. I'm seriously considering replacing the refrigerator rather than trying to clean it out.

I don't even let my mother in the house anymore for fear of having her stroke out on the spot. I don't think she'll understand that writing (and editing, and reading) Kitten-fic is more important than cleaning. But I know you appreciate our priorities!

Actually, I can't get enough of Tara either. Love the way she always knows just what to do and say for Willow. Love her patience and gentleness, her quiet strength and devotion. Love how she knows just exactly how to take care of her girl, in every way. Actually, I'll admit it, I just love everything about that woman. And the way you write her, Mel, I've got a feeling you do too.

That part was very sweet, though I'm getting a little leery of Jo myself.

I'm glad you liked the food descriptions. I just got home tonight, though my luggage decided to stay in Italy. I visited the Mediterranean coast since I last posted and I had a great deal of seafood, including frittura mista, mixed fried seafood with a very light crispy yet also very flavorful breading unlike anything I've had in the US, and spaghetti vongole, perfectly al dente pasta (I don't know how they do it--I cannot make pasta with that texture at home and I've never found it at a restaurant here) with beautiful little clams in the shell.

Milano had more McDonald's than an American city, but there were good bakeries with excellent French-style baguettes and lots of Tuscan food. I love the antipasto buffets. How do they make simple things like white beans and roasted red peppers taste so wonderful? Oh, and I discovered the perfect stratchiatella gelato at Varenna in the Alps on Lake Como. It was intensely creamy and striped with a bittersweet dark chocolate that stayed fairly soft even when frozen.

I finally learned the name of the song I heard all over Italy. It's Tatu's "The things that she said" and it's at the top of the Italian pop charts; I don't know if it's here yet or if it's already gone from here, but the video is a very sweet one with two young girls in love so I think the kittens would like it if they haven't already discovered it.

Darcy: See, its a universal behavior pattern of *domestic* felines... I've got three, but only one of them has taken regurgitation to a state of art. They have their own scale of values, and they make it clear that theirs is better than yours any time. And, you know, only another cat person can understand this. :D But now the meaning of *squicky* is perfectly clear to me.

Edge of Silence - Chap 6b - The Things I Cannot See

Postby Triscuit7 » Tue Oct 15, 2002 4:26 pm

Hi Kittens - It's almost update time, but first here are some more thank yous.

Rane018 - Hi sweetie. I soooo don't want to kill you - if I did, then I'd never know what happened at Camp Flutie's dance(!) OR OR OR that other really wonderful fic you were writing, y'know, the one without a name with the different Tara and her mom. Anyway, enjoy the vicarious smoochies in all their various permutations. Thanks.

tiredsoul - Hey Celia. And you think reading my updates in the middle of the night is, um, "interesting", just consider what writing them does to my dreams.... And never fear, there is hope for dear Jo. Thanks again.

saule77 - Hey. Thud is a perfectly acceptable word. Thanks.

The Big I T - Hi there. I think Tara is just about as close to perfection as it is possible to get and no, I can't get enough of her either. Thanks for reading.

SilverWingedNemesis - Hi. Glad you've found this and are enjoying it. As for Tara knowing what to say and do, well, she is "Big Knowledge Woman". And never fear there will be snuggles and warm fuzzy stuff a plenty. Thanks.

darkmagicwillow - Hi. Poor you. But at least you're here. It would be far worse to have this happen as your trip was just starting, with you in Italy and your luggage here. And more food (!) and me thinking about dinner.... Jo - is good. Take my word for it. Thanks again for everything, food reports and all.

barnabasvamp - Hey BV. You may appreciate our priorities but we really need to get off our butts and do something soon before this house begins creating life of its own accord.... I have a feeling it would be quite demonic.

Jaguar - Hi. I'm glad you like it. :grin Discovery is a wonderful thing and I'm just gonna sit back and let them enjoy it to the max. Not that there aren't bumps and worse, since this is S4 after all, but it's all Willow/Tara goodness in the end. Thanks.

The Inward Sea _ Hey Sea. It was squicky again this morning. Maggie. One hairball. Thought I'd share. And I have a reputation - it's just not one that my mother or Darcy's needs to know about. Thanks.

The Edge of Silence - Chap 6c - The Things I Cannot See

Postby Triscuit7 » Tue Oct 15, 2002 4:45 pm

Hi Kittens. Here's the promised update: an alternative to 7.4 or a pick-me-up after.

Rating - NC17

Health Warning - In effect, just to be safe.

Have fun, but be forewarned, there is a wee cliffhanger....

*****

Tara gazed into the greenness of her love’s eyes, seeing there a reflection of her own love, still unspoken, but present. She leaned her head into the hand that wound itself in her hair, rubbed her head against it, bumping it like a cat wanting to be petted. And oh, she did, she wanted Willow-hand quite desperately. She brushed her lips over Willow’s in the gentlest of kisses and lifted herself off of her lover.

“Tara?”

“I’m fine, sweetie. You need to go to your calculus class. I can wait.” But Tara couldn’t resist running an index finger down Willow’s torso, from the hollow of her throat to the top of her curls.

“You’re sure, love?” Willow asked, petting her.

“Love?” Tara lifted an eyebrow as she smiled at Willow’s chosen epithet, while inwardly her heart almost stopped beating.

“Uh-huh, as in … my love.” Willow’s brow furrowed in concern. “You don’t mind, do you?”

“No, sweetie.” So close. Her Willow was sooo close. Tara looked away; she had to or else she thought she’d burst. She felt Willow’s hand tighten in her hair, capturing her attention again.

“Can we meet here after my class? Or do you have .…”

“Oh yes,” Tara interrupted her, blushing a bit at her rudeness. She continued with a lopsided smile, “You had better come back here. Or else I m-might show up someplace unexpected and repeat what we did this morning.”

“Really?” Willow’s eyebrows shot up and her hand dropped to her shoulder. Tara could see the wheels turning in her lover’s head as she considered that option and whether it might be even better.

“Uh-huh, really.” Tara nodded. “I want you.”

Willow glanced toward the clock and bit her lip.

She touched her fingertips to Willow’s cheek and repeated her reassurance. “It’s okay, sweetie. Not enough time now, but I can wait.”

Her lover looked guilty and caressed her upper arm. “I’m sorry that I took so long getting here.”

“Willow. Stop it, now,” Tara demanded. “I am fine. I’ll be here. Horny, but … fine.”

“Okay.” Willow gave a little sigh and released her. “I guess I should freshen up. Um ….”

“What, sweetie?” Tara smiled at her, suspecting the reason for the hesitation.

“Would you wash me again? I really liked that. I mean, if you want to and it wouldn’t be, you know, tooo arousing?”

Willow looked so earnest, so eager, it would have been impossible for Tara to refuse.

Tara chuckled. “Oh, I think I can manage.” She stood up and collected the abandoned bowl. She heard Willow half sit up and knew her lover was watching her every move. She dumped out the now cool water and refilled it with water that was nicely warm. Smiling, she returned to Willow and knelt again between her knees, placing the bowl on the floor. Willow spread her legs wide and Tara couldn’t help but lick her lips. Everything about her lover was beautiful. She knee-walked closer and glanced up into Willow’s face.

Willow grinned back at her, totally comfortable now. Willow-hand caressed her face and tucked some hair behind her ear. She sighed and heard Willow echo it. She scooped up a handful of warm water and tipped it out over the red curls, watching it run downwards in rivulets. Slowly she washed her lover’s cunt, aware that Willow’s breathing had deepened even as her own had quickened. Finally she wiped her with the last bit of towel that was even remotely dry. She rubbed the soft roughness over her lover’s clit in gentle circles and was rewarded by her hips lifting.

“Tara!” Willow’s voice was hoarse with longing and her hand pulled her hair, encouraging and discouraging at the same time

She stopped and pulled the towel away. Leaning forward, she gently kissed her lover’s aroused clit.

“Ohhhh,” Willow moaned.

Tara gave it one last lick and whispered, “Later.” She scooted backwards, Willow’s fingers slipping through her hair. Back to safety, because she was on the verge of taking Willow right then and she knew that her lover would allow it. Willow would insist on it if she remained in close proximity, and then would later feel guilty for having missed class. This was better. No guilt. Just hunger.

Willow stared at her, mouth open and breathing hard.

“I don’t think I d-dare dress you,” Tara apologized, explaining her sudden departure.

Her lover licked her lips and nodded once. She sat up fully on the edge of the bed and Tara stood, backing away a few steps. Distance was essential. She found her shorts and tank top and pulled them on while she watched Willow dress. A suddenly clumsy Willow, who was so aroused that her fingers fumbled with everything. She took a step forward and stopped. No, her help would only make matters worse … or better … or something. No, she’d better stay where she was.

Dressed again, Willow stood and just looked at her, love and hunger apparent in her gaze. “This … this is fair, I think. Both of us, not just you.”

Tara nodded. Her lover stepped near, kissing close, but neither of them made a move to kiss. Willow reached out and gently ran her hand down her arm. Their palms brushed together and their fingertips hugged. Then Willow stepped away and opened the door.

Hand on the doorknob, she paused. “I’ll be back soon.”

“I know.” Tara watched the door swing shut. She licked her lips and sighed.

Willow.

She cleaned up her lunch items, collecting the towel, the oils, and the nearly empty bowl. She found a fresh dry towel and slipped it between the bedding and the mattress where the water had soaked through. She surveyed her room looking for something else to do while she waited. Her eyes landed on the key-ring on her desk and she smiled. That she could do.

After pulling her hair back in a loose ponytail, she rinsed her face, stripped out of the shorts and top and pulled on underwear and real clothes. She’d be back in plenty of time for her sweetie, and have a present for her too. She locked the door behind her and set off for student housing.

It was time Willow had a key to her room.

*****

Completed form and money in hand, Tara stood in the line for the third time, her eyes tracking the progress of the minute hand on the clock behind the student worker’s head. If this took much longer she would have to leave. Who would have thought that something so simple could be made so difficult? She glanced at the student. She couldn’t possibly work more slowly, could she? Tara bit her lip and looked the form over again. It was filled out completely this time – the first time she’d left spaces blank because none of the reasons given were true for her. The student had glanced at it and given it back, insisting that everything be completed.

Tara guessed that saying about power was true. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Petty power corrupts out of all proportion.”

She hated lying. And what she held in her hand was a series of lies. Lies and the replacement key fee would get her a second key that she could give to Willow. Suddenly the single page of paper felt enormously heavy. No, she would just have to think of something else. Her hand started to crumple it up.

“Hey, Tara.”

“S-Scott. Hi.” Tara looked up into a smiling face, the first she’d seen in almost an hour.

“So what’s been happening? I don’t think I’ve seen you since Monday night. You and Willow keepin’ busy elsewhere?” Scott’s smile brightened into a grin.

“Oh, j-just the usual. W-W-We’ve been hanging out w-with some of her friends. Wh-What bring you over here?” Tara escaped his questions with one of her own, and glanced at the clock again. Less than a half hour before Willow’s class ended.

“I needed to drop off the hand-outs for tonight’s game to Lexie, here.” He pointed at the student worker who was currently the bane of her existence. “She’s been developing a new character and tonight’s game is the debut, so this,” he lifted a sheaf of papers, “is a little extra help for her. Not cheating, it’s the players’ sheets, she just gets to see them a few hours before everyone else. So why are you here?”

“Umm … I n-need a s-second key.” Together they stepped forward a space in line. Just one person back from the counter now.

“For Willow?” His grin widened further.

She nodded and looked down at the partially crumpled form in her hands.

“Hmmm. I don’t think there’s a line on there that says ‘I need a second key for my girlfriend’. That’s why you were heading for the door when I arrived, wasn’t it?” Scott arrowed in immediately on her quandary.

She nodded again, amazed at how observant he was.

He laughed, a deep booming laugh. “Such a face you’re wearing! Tara …,” he paused, and smiled more quietly and earnestly at her, “I’m a double major in sociology and anthropology, with a minor in psych. Noticing things is a valuable skill for me and I do try to develop it. So I take it I was close?”

“Yes, I c-can’t get a second key …”

He interrupted, “Unless you lie – or give it to me.” He held out his hand. “Lexie will do it for me. Or ....” He waved his sheets threateningly, and gestured her forward. “C’mon, we’re up.”

“Scott! Hi!” The girl looked at Scott, the sheets he held, and finally, at her.

“Hey, Lexie. This is my friend Tara. She needs a second key.”

“I gave her a form to fill out; all she has to do is give it back and pay the fee. No big deal.” Lexie glanced at her with utter scorn, and smiled at Scott. “You brought the hand-outs!”

“Uh-huh.” He lifted them up to his shoulder height and Lexie’s eyes tracked them. Tara watched, slightly aghast at what seemed to be happening. “My friend needs a key, you want these. She’ll pay for it, but no record, please. Deal?”

“There has to be a record, Scott, or else I can’t accept the fee.” Lexie looked at her again. “What’s the problem anyway? It isn’t as if anyone ever checks those forms unless there’s a disappearance or something.”

“She doesn’t want to lie, Lexie,” Scott explained.

Tara nodded, and added, “B-But if n-no one checks, then I c-could leave the r-reason blank.”

Lexie considered. “Who is the key for?”

“Her girlfriend,” Scott interjected before she could say it.

“Oh. Why didn’t you say so?”

Tara shrugged and glanced at the students behind her in line. Three of them. “Give me a n-new form and I’ll g-get back .…”

“No,” Scott interrupted again. “Lexie, just give her a second key while she fills out the new form here. She’s in a bit of a hurry. Right?”

Tara nodded and blushed. Lexie slid the new form in front of her and snagged the crumpled one for her room number. In mere moments, she had a key, and bureaucracy was more or less satisfied. Lexie was happy, too, shuffling the gaming sheets in her hands and beaming up at Scott as she ignored the other waiting students.

“Th-Thank-you.”

Lexie – almost – smiled at her.

“Have fun, Tara,” Scott rumbled. “And remember, I have headphones.”

As Tara hurried from the room, she heard him explain to his friend, “They’re a little loud.”

There's something wonderfully intimate about having a second key cut. There's a huge trust involved with it. Wonderful. And I love that there's a hunger between them that never seems to be satisfied. Instead its the opposite - they more they have, the more they want. Love this story.
