CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT





Maggie explained how she and Logan had followed Willow’s path back through time, but had not yet revealed their relationship to the two young women.



“I’m not sure I’m understanding this completely.” Willow said. “You said that only blood relatives could follow my path back through time.”



“Yes, that’s true, child.” Maggie answered.



“Logan looks so much like you, Willow. You’re obviously related in some way.” Tara said, observantly.



“Yes, but I’ve never met either of you before – let alone even heard about you.” Willow said, skeptically. “So just exactly who are you?”



Maggie and Logan looked at each other as the tension of anticipation filled the air.



After pausing a moment to collect her thoughts, Maggie took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. “I am Margaret Elizabeth Rosenberg-Maclay. Daughter of Meghan Rosenberg-Maclay. Logan is my granddaughter…your great-great-great-granddaughter.”



Willow looked at them, her eyes wide in disbelief.



“You…and she…you’re our…” Willow managed to say before fainting cold away.





Meanwhile…





Giles stood alone near the table, checking the inventory of items that Xander had collected for he and Anya.



Buffy, noticing that the Watcher was alone, chose this moment to approach him with her concerns.



“Hey there…got all the lizard guts and everything you’re gonna need for this big mojo thing?” She said, trying to keep things light.



“No ‘lizard guts’, as you so aptly put it…and yes, I believe we have everything that we need. Anya is double-checking the incantations.” He said, continuing to shuffle through the items nervously.



“You don’t have to do this, Giles…we can find another way.” Buffy suggested. She knew what the Watcher was risking by participating in a casting of this magnitude.



“There is no other way!” Giles snapped, slamming a candle on the table. It was obvious that he was teetering dangerously close to the edge. “Anya cannot manage this by herself, and we must try to cover the residual magicks before Kaliphicus finds us!”



“But what if you…” Buffy began, only to be stopped mid-question by her Watcher.



“I won’t. I can do this…you’ll just have to trust me this time.” He said, reaching out to his young charge – placing his hand on her shoulder to comfort her as a father would his child.



Buffy swallowed hard. She had already lost so much, the thought of losing the only real father figure that she had ever known in her life was unfathomable to her…but she knew that this had to be done if they were to stand a chance at all.





Meanwhile…





“Willow? Sweetheart? Come on, baby…wake up…please?” Tara said, gently wiping her wife’s brow with a cool cloth.



“Mmmffff…” Willow moaned, slowly coming back to consciousness.



“Looks like she’s coming to.” Maggie said, watching over the pair. She walked over to Logan, who was now standing in the doorway, taking her by the hand. “Come on dear, let’s go outside and give them a little room to breathe. This is a lot to take in all at once.”



“Thank you.” Tara said, gently caressing Willow’s brow as the others walked outside.



“Mmmm…Tara? What happened?” Willow said, groggily.



“You fainted, baby…are you alright?” Tara said, lovingly.



“I think so…but I had the weirdest dream…there was these two women…and they said that they were our granddaughters…and…” Willow babbled.



“Baby…it wasn’t a dream.” Tara said, nodding towards the door where Maggie and Logan stood outside.

An update!!! Thank you so much. Seeing how the relationships between the characters develops and the interplay between times are great to follow. I was so happy to see the update posted that I went back this morning and reread Timeless from the beginning through the update to remind myself how good the story is. The cliff hanger ending will insure that I check frequently for further updates. Thank you again and have a Happy holiday. Be safe.

Glad you got us some reading to do. Great update. Can't wait to see what Giles and Anya have in store. Giles seems to be losing his temper a bit...what...does he think that these people don't trust him? They should as he's been their guide for years, despite his past.



I'd like to see how the present becomes the past becomes hte future thing works out.

YAY!..Fainty Willow!..I haven't seen that in fics in soooo long. No one remembers when she passed out after getting the hair samples of the corpse she was trying to prove Oz didn't kill and that's upsetting. Even if you don't remember it, it's still cool to have faint Willow, if ytou ever watch that episode she's all calm and cool and then she makes this funny face her eyes roll in the back of her head and she faints. it's so cool in a way. Sorry babbling...reading these fics are starting to effect me....Update soon.

CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE



“Wha…what are you talking about?” Willow asked, obviously confused.



Tara gently ran her fingers through the red-head’s hair, brushing it away from her face.



“Baby…their names are Maggie and Logan…and they are our granddaughters.” Tara said, trying not to upset her wife.



“How? Are you sure? How do we know that they’re not lying?” Willow said, her voice on the verge of panicky.



“It’s hard to explain…but I just…I just know it.” Tara said. “I can feel it.”



Willow was by nature suspicious…but she trusted Tara. If she said that these people were genuine, then it must be true.



“What do they want? I mean…why did they come here?” She asked.



“Perhaps it would be better if I explained that, Tara.” Maggie said from the doorway.



“This may take a while…” Logan warned.



Willow got up and dusted herself off, still marveling at the sight of her look-alike.



“Are you okay, baby?” Tara said, holding on to Willow’s arm to steady her.



“Just a little woozy, baby…I’ll be okay.” Willow assured her.



“Why don’t you all sit down, and I’ll put on some tea.” Tara said, pulling out the chair for Willow.



“That sounds like a winner, dear. Thank you.” Maggie said, as she and Logan sat down at the table.





Meanwhile…





“You’re clear on what we need to do?” Giles asked Anya.



The former Vengeance Demon didn’t reply, she still had her nose buried in the spellbook, studying the incantations for the cloaking.



“Anya? ANYANKA!” Giles yelled. It was obvious that the Watcher was on edge.



“What?! For pete’s sake! First you tell me to help you with a spell that I haven’t done in ages…and then you’re constantly interrupting me! What do you want?!” Anya said, obviously annoyed.



“Bloody hell, woman! If I didn’t need you for this damned thing, I’d…I’d…well suffice to say that you would definitely not like what I would do to you!” Giles said, trying to calm himself down.



“Whoa! G-man…just chill a bit here, okay? An is doing her best.” Xander said, feeling the need to defend his betrothed…and knowing that if he didn’t, he’d face the ugly side of the beautiful former demon later on that night.



“Yo! Guys – come on. We’re all wicked edgy right now, okay? Let’s just concentrate on what we need to do to get this done.” Faith said, trying to calm the situation and get everyone focused on the task at hand.



“Faith’s right.” Buffy said. “Chill out…ALL of you. We need to get this done…all of our lives may depend on it.”



They didn’t know just how true those words were…

CHAPTER SEVENTY

Tara took four cups from the shelf, placing one in front of each woman and keeping one for her. She then walked back, placing a small silver tea cache in the teapot, steeping it for a moment before returning to the table.

Willow sat quietly, still a bit shaken by the events of the last hour or so. Tara smiled, gently brushing the redhead’s back as she began pouring the tea.

“Kinda noisy in there?” Tara asked, looking to Willow.

“Wha? Oh…yeah…very.” Willow said, flashing a quick smile at her wife to let her know that all was well.

Maggie caught the subtle gesture, and also smiled.

“C-can I get anyone milk or sugar?” Tara asked, looking to their guests.

“Sugar would be fine, dear…you can never have too much sugar!” Maggie said, cheerfully.

“I always say that!” Willow blurted out in amazement.

“Well…I guess that explains where I got my sweet-tooth from now then, doesn’t it?” Maggie said, smiling.

Tara set the sugar bowl down on the table before taking her seat next to Willow.

“Yeah…I guess so.” Willow said, reaching for Tara’s hand under the table.

“I guess you would like some explanations, wouldn’t you?” Maggie said, rhetorically.

“Yes…definitely…explain away!” Willow said, edging nervously to the end of her seat.

Maggie proceeded to tell Willow and Tara how the others had contacted them, and how only blood relatives could follow Willow’s path back in time.

“So the others…they’re still alright? I mean…everybody is still…” Willow asked, hesitantly.

“They’re all fine, dear…but they miss you terribly.” Maggie answered. “They are waiting anxiously for us all to return.”

“A-all of us?” Tara asked.

“Yes…it’s going to take everything that we have to banish Kaliphicus…and that means you, too, Tara.” Maggie answered.

“B-but how?” Tara asked, nervously. “I’m not related to Willow through blood.”

“No…you’re not. But your child is…”


Meanwhile…


Giles and Anya sat inside a second casting circle that they had made around the original circle with sea salt. A silver athame sat ominously in front of Giles. It was obvious that the two were both nervous about their roles in the cloaking spell.

Buffy, Xander, and Faith stood quietly by, waiting for the pair to begin.

Buffy brought her hand to her mouth, nervously starting to bite her nails. Faith reached up, taking the blonde’s hand in her own in an attempt to calm her.

“Are you ready?” Giles asked, looking to Anya.

“I think so.” Anya answered, tentatively.

“You THINK so?” Giles asked, obviously on-edge.

“Yes! I’m ready already! Let’s just get this over with…okay?”

“Very well…” Giles said, taking a deep breath before beginning the incantation.

“Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the Air. Here are several in need of protection of the mind.” Giles began.

Giles placed the ingredients one-by-one into the small earthen bowl between them, as Anya continued.

“Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the Fire. Here are several in need of protection of the spirit. Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the Earth. Here are several in need of protection of body.”

Giles reached for the athame, cutting first Anya’s palm, then his own. The two entwined their fingers, their blood mingling and dripping into the earthenware vessel.

“Accept this humble offering from your servants.”

Anya continued.

“Let the western wind shroud us from all evil. Let the northern wind keep us from all harm.”

Buffy looked to Giles. The sweat was running down his face in rivulets and he looked as though it was becoming a struggle to even breathe.

Giles struggled to continue.

“Let the dusk of twilight shroud me in protection…”

Giles and Anya then broke their grasp. Anya dipped her fingers into the bloody gruel and painted a glyph on the Watcher, who was now visibly shaking.

Giles hesitantly continued the incantation.

“Let the powers of the darkness of midnight shroud us in protection.”

Giles paused, panting heavily, his eyes now closed…

“Giles! Stop!” Buffy said, lunging forward, only to be held back by Faith.

“B, no! You’ve got to let them finish!”

Suddenly, the Watcher’s eyes quickly opened, revealing not the dark brown, fatherly eyes that they were all so accustomed to…but rather two black orbs where they had once been…

Hello Everybody!

Sorry it has been so long - but I was on deployment to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina. So needless to say, getting on the internet was a bit tough. Was back two days and had a book signing...whew! But now I've got a whole 10 days off...so I PROMISE that if you check back - there will be an update to both this and MY FIRST by next weekend.
