CHAPTER NINETY-ONE



The gang stowed their carry-on’s in the overhead bins and took their seats in the First Class section of the airliner.



Xander with Anya, Buffy with Faith, Willow with Tara, and Giles by himself – he was, after all, the “Ambassador”…



“Good morning everyone, and welcome to United Flight 537 with service to New York’s Laguardia International Airport. Your flight time today will be six hours and twenty-five minutes…” The pilots voice said over the speaker system.



“New York?! We’re supposed to be going to Scotland!” Buffy said, worried that they were on the wrong flight.



“Chill, B. We’ve gotta stop for fuel along the way…it’s no big.” Faith said, taking the blonde’s hand in her own.



“Oh…yeah…okay.” Buffy said, rather embarrassed at her earlier comment.



“You have flown before, haven’t you?” Faith said, looking at her counterpart.



“Me? Oh yeah! Definitely! I’m all with the flying-thing!” Buffy said, nervously, just as a woman’s voice came over the loudspeaker.



“Please direct your attention to the attendant in your section. Emergency exits are located to either side of the plane. Please familiarize yourself with their location at this time.” The voice said as the stewardess in first class motioned to either side of the cabin.



“In the event of rapid depressurization, oxygen masks will fall from the overhead compartments. Place your mask on, pulling the straps to assure a snug fit before assisting others. Oxygen flow will start when the mask is pulled toward you.”



“Oxygen? Depressurization?!!! Okay…that’s it…I’m out of here!” Buffy said, un-buckling her safety belt and heading for the door.



Faith caught her just as her foot hit the aisle-way.



“Whoa B…I though you said you’ve flown before!” She said, holding the blonde back as only she could.



“I have! Lots of times…into a tombstone…onto a table…off of a building…but this! This is just…unnatural! If humans were supposed to fly…we’d have wings! I can’t…”



Buffy was stopped mid-sentence as Giles hit her from behind with the rather large leather-clad book that he had brought along for the trip, knocking the Slayer out cold in her tracks.



The rest of the Scooby Gang looked on in awe and amazement at the usually mild-mannered Englishman. The flight attendant stepped forward, assessing the situation carefully.



“Is everything alright?” She asked, looking at Buffy’s limp form in the seat.



“Heh…nothing a little light reading couldn’t cure.” He said, flashing a bit of a smile before sitting back down in his seat.



Faith settled Buffy into her seat, buckling her safety belt around her waist and placing a pillow behind her head lovingly. Her caring actions not going unnoticed by the rest of the gang.



“Boy…remind me not to get too close when mister ‘calm-cool librarian’ has got a book in his hands!” Anya said, threading her arm through Xander’s as she snuggled in closely for the take-off.



“You alright, baby?” Tara asked, looking down at Willow’s hand under hers on the armrest. The redhead’s knuckles were turning white from grasping it so tightly.



“Hehe…what do you know…looks like pre-flight panic runs in the family!” She said, smiling nervously.



Tara wrapped her arm around her wife, pulling her in closely as she kissed her gently on the forehead.



“Shhh…I’m right here with you, and I’ll protect you, always…and after we get off the ground, I’ve got a little something that I think will take your mind off flying…” she whispered seductively…

so im finally de-lurking myself and decided that i definately need to congratulate you on your awesome story...i read the whole thing so far in about 2 days. i started it a long time ago and then had to come back to it and read it all over again including the new updates...and it still rocked my world!!

Giles hitting Buffy? That's a twist. Isn't it usually the other way around? Light reading huh? LOL, I'm betting Buffy will be feeling that 'information overload' soon enough.



Soooo, what DOES Tara have in store for our nervous redhead? If you're thinking of using those tiny bathrooms as a mile high adventure, you better come up with some pretty creative ideas/positons. Those stalls aren't exactly roomy.



I can think of an alternative way for some high flying fun that doesn't involve leaving the seat, but I'll keep that to myself.

CHAPTER NINETY-TWO





Buffy’s head was swimming. She didn’t know why, but her ‘spidey-senses’ were piqued. It was as though millions of little electrical charges were hitting her from every direction, teasing the nerves throughout her body.



“Do you feel that?” Buffy asked Faith, who was sitting in the seat next to her, thumbing through one of the in-flight magazines.



“Feel what, B?” Faith said not looking up.



“That…tingly spidey-kinda thing…like…I don’t know…” she said, rubbing her hands up and down her arms in a futile attempt to shed her goosebumps.



“Like that feeling you get when you’re walking down an alley in the middle of the night…in a storm…and you realize you’re surrounded by a nest of vamps…and you reach for your stake, but there’s nothing there…and…” Faith began, her eyes wild with excitement.



“Yes! That’s it! Just like that!” Buffy said.



Faith settled back calmly into her seat. “Nope. Don’t feel a thing.” She said, resuming her trek through the pages of the magazine.



Buffy looked at her quizzically. “Oookay.” Her eyes scanned the cabin of the plane, everything seemed fine. Giles was asleep in his seat, the large book that he had hit her with sitting open on his lap. Xander and Anya stealing kisses and making googlie eyes at one another…and Willow and Tara snuggling together, stealing a much needed nap – the smiles on there faces surely caused by dreams of the happy life the two were to share together. The site warmed the Slayer’s heart. They truly were meant for each other. Perhaps she and Faith could one day have the same happiness…



Suddenly…



Buffy saw a dark cloaked figure rising up from behind the pair, it’s long, craggly hands bedecked with razor-like nails, drawing back it’s arm, preparing to strike. Knowing that she had a mere split-second to react, the Slayer sprung from her position, reaching the pair just as the figure swept his claws across their necks - blood spurting from severed arteries, splattering flecks of crimson across the Slayer's face.



“NO!!!!” Buffy screamed, waking herself up and startling the rest of the gang in their seats.



“B! What’s the matter? Are you alright?” Faith said, wanting to reach out to the blonde, yet knowing that it was best to give her space. Making any sudden moves – even ones meant to be emotionally supportive – could be a deadly mistake when dealing with a fellow Slayer.



Buffy looked around, breathless and still somewhat in a daze from the vivid nightmare.



Willow made her way to her sister’s side, carefully placing her hand on the blonde’s shoulder.



“Slayer dream?” She asked, reluctantly.



Buffy nodded her head, a tear running down her face…



“It was about us, Tara and I, wasn’t it?” Willow said, hesitantly.



With new resolve, Buffy wiped the tear from her face. “I won’t let him get you…either of you.”



"I know..." Willow said "...I trust you."

CHAPTER NINETY-THREE



“What happened in the dream, Buffy? We need to know.” Tara said, her voice laden with concern.



“I don’t suppose we can just talk about this later…over some pizza or something?” Buffy said. She knew that, as much as she would like them to, they couldn’t just forget about it until later.



“I don’t think that pizza will be on the in-flight menu…and there is no way we’re waiting until we hit Glasgow to talk about this.” Willow said, sternly.



“I’m inclined to agree with Willow, we need to know the details so that we can start working on an interpretation of the dream itself.” Giles said.



“Hey, how about you all back off for a moment and give B. some air!” Faith said, feeling her counterpart’s tension rising by leaps and bounds.



Buffy, although thankful for Faith’s gesture of protectiveness, placed her hand reassuringly on the once-dark Slayer’s hand…



“No…it’s alright. They’re right. We need to get to work on this. I’ll be okay.” She said.



“I’m right here for ya, B.” Faith said, protectively reaching for her hand, interlacing her fingers with the blonde’s.



“I know.” Buffy said, thankfully.



“For god’s sake, enough with the touchy-feely already! What happened in the dream?” Anya said, cutting to the chase as only the former Vengeance Demon could.



“That’s my girl! Little Miss Subtle!” Xander said, placing his arm around Anya. “On with the Slayer-dreamedness!”



“Slayer-dreamedness?” Faith said, raising her eyebrow with skepticism, snickering.



“Oh God…I know what he means! Being with he and Wills for so long…I actually understand the babble!” Buffy said, giggling for a moment at the notion.



Giles gave her the all too familiar ‘We need to take things seriously’ look over the top of his glasses, jarring her back into the task-at-hand.



“Right…well…anyhow…we were on the plane…and my ‘spidey senses’ started getting all tingly and stuff…like something was going to happen.” Buffy began.



“Spidey senses?” Tara asked, having not heard Buffy use the term before.

“It’s kinda like when…um…like when…um…” Willow said, pausing for a moment before she leaned in closer, whispering in her wife’s ear. “…like when I’m kissing my way down your tummy…and you know I’m going to do something really sexy…but you’re not sure what it’s going to be…you just know it’s going to be good.” She said, grinning mischievously.



“Oh…OH! Got it! ‘Spidey sense’…go on…” Tara said, pausing for a moment to daydream about a naked Willow…



“Yeah…so anyhow…” Buffy said, knowing full well that her sister had whispered something spicy in the blonde’s ear. The far-off look in Tara’s eyes, as well as the quirky little grin on her face confirmed it. “…I could tell something was going to happen…and I thought that Faith would sense it, too…but she didn’t.”



“Sorry, B.” Faith said, feeling as though she had left Buffy down.



“No…it’s not your fault, Faith…I’m not sure what was going on.”



“Perhaps it’s due to the blood ties between you and Willow.” Giles offered.



“Could be…” Buffy said.



“So what happened then?” Xander asked.



“I scanned the first class cabin…but didn’t see anything…until I looked over at you guys.” She said, looking at Willow and Tara. “I felt this sense of…I don’t know…dread…and I knew I had to act fast. Just as the feeling came over me, I saw a cloaked figure with these long nails…almost like razors! He definitely needed a MAJOR manicure!”



Giles raised his eyebrow, queuing her to continue.



“He raised his hand over them…I jumped, trying to get to them before he could…”



“Before he could effectively behead them with a single smooth movement?” Anya said, reveling in the moment.



“AN!” Xander yelled.



“What? Oh please…you humans are so sensitive! I was just reliving my glory days…you know, beheading was one of my best moves when I was a Vengeance Demon! Ahhh, yes…those were the days! A beheading here…disembowelment there…”



“You’d better get your ‘demon-girl’ under control, Xan-man! Or we’re gonna have an extra seat open on the way back from Scotland…get my drift?”



“Xander! Are you going to let her talk about me like that?” Anya said, whining as she wrapped her hands around Xander’s arm.



“Will you all please shut up!” Giles said, putting an end to the debacle. “Now…what exactly did this figure look like.” He said, his book still resting in his lap.



“I don’t know…he had on a black cloak…but not a very nice one. It wasn’t velvet or anything…more like blackened burlap…and the nails…like knives. I kind of got a glimpse of his eyes right before he…well, you know. They were yellow…and they almost glowed…like one of those light sticks!”



“Like this?” Giles said, pointing to an illustration in the book on his lap.



It was an exact likeness of the creature.



“Exactly.” Buffy said.



“Good Lord.” Giles said, removing his glasses…
