Wanna Blessed Be

Postby darkmagicwillow » Sat Jun 07, 2003 7:50 am

Does anyone have a transcript or whatever the equivalent would be for a comic for the W/T comics, particularly "Wanna Blessed Be?"

Re: Fan fic help

Postby tinnakaren » Fri Jun 13, 2003 4:38 am

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether we know for sure where Tara is from? I read a fanfic, I believe it was Coming Back, where Tara is supposed to be from Oregon, but I don't know whether that was just a little creative writing on the author's part or whether it was something that was established in the show.

tinnakaren, they never said where Tara was from. It had to be fairly close for her family to come driving. I always thought central California.

Nan,

Um... I'm not sure. They just worked for me when I DL'ed them. I just downloaded one a minute ago and it worked when I played it. I'm not sure why they won't work for you.

You may want to ask her what she used to decode them with. Do you have DiVX on your computer? That's the most common decoder that people use.

Let me know if I can help you out with anything else, k?

Good luck! :kiss

Hey Jen,

I asked Rally and she just said I need the latest windows media player and the latest codecs. No idea what codecs are but I have the latest windows media player. I've emailed Rally again but haven't heard back as yet.

I'm not sure if I have a DiVX decoder. Is there somewhere to download it?

Thanks for all your help Jen, I appreciate it :)

Re: Rally's Music Video

Hey Nan,

This is the latest codec. It should work with the latest version of WMP. You should just have to DL it and then it should work on it's own when you go to play the videos.

download.divx.com/divx/DivX505Bundle.exe

Hope you can get them to work! :kiss

Careful with that Codec Bundle - DivX was (and maybe is) famous for packing their stuff with Spyware - or at least some of the sources of Codec were unless you paid. This is probably clean but...

Some people have no trouble, some people get riddled with the stuff. Just be aware of that and get yourself a spyware scanner to check and remove it if necessary.

Re: Rally's Music Video

Rather than me describe it I refer you to the link below re Spyware. Having checked into the listings DivX Codec's are not currently showing as being a Spyware problme however last year when I was looking for these same Codec's CNET feedback was definitely reporting spyware problems (and one user of these Codec's is still saying about - though that might not be a) true or b) the true culprit) They may since have addressed this as there is a big movement to deal with Spyware and its implications - especially if you are reliant on internet users to sell your product. Please note Spyware is in NO WAY a virus or anything - which is why virus scanners do not pick up on it (and it does not harm your system.) What you can find, if you have a firewall which warns you like Norton, is that something attempts to connect to the net and you have no idea what it is. This is probably NOT spyware but could be.

The link about Spyware is:

Opt Out

Personally I sweep for Spyware using Ad-Aware 6 which available at:

Ad-Aware

which picks up everything I am concerned about, is free and can be updated at the click of a button.

Don't panic about this stuff, just be aware of it nad when you are given the disclaimer when you install software actually read it (internet downloaded stuff mainly as it serves as a form of "payment") because they are required to have you consent to the use of Spyware to stay legal - but you can do this by clicking "Yes" - Lets face it we NEVER read that stuff after a few weeks of owning a PC, right?

I download quite alot of programs and have never had a serious problem with Spyware (Lots of cookies, but nothing more) but it is definitely something to be aware of, just like viruses, this time in terms of your civil liberties.

Tara meets Vamp Willow?

Bizarre Punctuation

Does anyone else find that when they change a thread title, for example to put the date of the last update, that the first post goes wonky, with punctuation turning in to symbols, or even the entire post disappearing?

Re: Tara meets Vamp Willow?

Hey Ben,

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, my fic "The Sidestep Chronicle" is set within the wishverse - so yeah, Tara meets VW.

That said, this is not "our" Tara either - it is a Tara who exists in that reality. Different. And it is a very dark fic, at least the first 80 parts or so are. The sequel (in the same thread) is lighter in tone as is the last 20 parts of the first section.

All in all if you are looking for "fun" encounters like Dopplegangland, or with a canon Tara, then I wouldn't go there since the story takes a look at what VW was really like. Not a nice creature at all.

There are other fics out there, but my memory is very poor and I know there are others who can name them one after the other.

EDIT: Oh - You said "good" stories (I thought it was "any"). Now I really feel like I am being presumptuous and big headed - damn. No. Go read something less boring instead. The light at the end of my tunnel is too far away.

So to speak.

To continue where Katharyn left of..

"EDIT: Oh - You said "good" stories (I thought it was "any"). Now I really feel like I am being presumptuous and big headed - damn. No. Go read something less boring instead. The light at the end of my tunnel is too far away."

... but it is so worth it.

Ben, if you haven't read The Sidestep Chronicle yet, I'm pretty much "demanding" you do so right now.

Personally, Katharyn's note in the beginning of the story kind of repelled me away from reading it, but then I finished reading almost any W/T story I could get my hands on and so I gave in. I started reading it this Wednesday and just finished it last night...I couldn't put my lap top away...I just read and read and read and it's been one of the most entertaining three days of my life.

The story itself is amazing. It's dark, it's scary, it's disturbing, it's depressing, it's angsty, it's erotic, it's sad, it's romantic, it's sexy and oh oh oh so great.

It has the entire range of human emotion and is definitely not boring. If it was boring, I doubt VW would have bothered making an appearance.

It took some patience on my part to get through the first few parts but then it was smooth sailing to the end. And now it has become one of my favorite stories...not just in the W/T fanfic fiction genre, but in any genre. Katharyn is a genius and I find myself thanking every deity in this world for making her share this story with us. Thanks Katharyn :)

Unless it was specified in S7 of Buffy or S4 of Angel then I believe the answer is no. I didn't watch either so I cannot be certain - but this question was asked somewhere else a while back and the answer was no then.

BTW TinnaKaren - thanks... I cannot really respond here as it is not appropriate but thanks.

Who is "Tara Maclay?"

Postby darkmagicwillow » Fri Jul 11, 2003 5:34 pm

Does anyone know what the origins of the name Tara Maclay are? I'm tempted to say that they're Irish because of both the name "Tara" and the "Mac" prefix of "Maclay." Maclay is a modern Scottish name, and the Scots emigrated to northern Britain from Ireland during Roman times. However, I'm basing this on a general knowledge of history, not geneology, so I'd love to hear from people who know about geneology.

Also, does anyone know how the Scots and Irish treated witchcraft and the old pagan religions? What were their own witch trials like? I've found a good modern history of witch trials here, but I'm looking for specifics.

Re: Who is "Tara Maclay?"

Postby justin » Sun Jul 13, 2003 2:16 pm

I'm afraid I don't know about where the name Tara Maclay comes from.

As for treatment of witchcraft in Ireland and Scotland. There were very few cases of witchcraft in Ireland with there only being about half a dozen trials between 1324 and 1711. As in England torture was rarely used in Ireland.

Scotland is the opposite extreme, being second only to Germany for severity. Unlike in the rest of Britain torture was often used and people who were found guilty were burnt rather than hanged. It's estimated that about 4000 people were burnt in Scotland for witchcraft.

I got this information from the Witch Book by Raymond Buckland. I haven't been able to find any on-lines references.

To answer my own question about ExtraFlamey, it appears that the server hosting it died without a backup:
7|15|03 Again, the same problem as the fanlisting. When I lost my host, I lost all my files. Most I have, what I don't have is the stories!!!! But, I will try to get it back online within the next week.
