Title- Simple Matters
Disclaimer- Joss owns everything.
Setting- Set two years after A Different Life. Willow and Tara are living at Buffy's house and learning that the simple things in life is what matters.
Note- If you're confused by anything I'd suggest reading ADL for background happenings because things that happened in that story will be mentioned in this one.

I hope you enjoy...... here it goes...

Simple Matters (Sequel to A Different Life)
Two Years later
**********************************************

"Dresden....Don't run through the house." Tara warned gently. The boy ran past her, nearly knocking her in the process. She was balancing three breakfast plates at the moment and had almost spilled them. Tara set the plates down on the table. Dresden bolted past her again. "What did I just say young man?" Tara chastised again, this time a little less gently. but she was too late, Dresden had already ran out the back door. She was caught off guard when Buffy flew through the kitchen at full sprint a few seconds later at a speed usually reserved for vampires foolish enough to have mocked her punning.

"Ha!" Buffy yelled planting herself in the middle of the kitchen floor, she looked around suspiciously. "I told him he couldn't beat me in a race." Buffy grinned thinking about her accomplishment. "Where is the little scoundrel? Any second now he's going to come through that doorway and I will claim my victory!"

Buffy was grinning from ear to ear and Tara had to suppress a smile before answering. "He ran past here..."Tara looked at the clock on the wall "about...thirty seconds before you..."

"what?! Impossible! Im the slayer for christ-sake!"

"It's true...I yelled at him myself."

"I yelled at him too..." Samantha said nonchalantly, coming into the kitchen. The four year old pulled out a chair and sat patiently waiting for Tara to serve her. Tara examined the little girl, starting with her freshly cut hair. Willow had taken her yesterday to get her long white locks cut off into a much more manageable bob. It had been a terror in the mornings trying to brush the knots out of Sam's hair.

Samantha had apparently dressed herself this morning. Tara always marveled at the little girl's unique fashion sense. The child couldn't put together a matching ensemble if her life depended on it and right now she proved that by sporting a pair of pants decorated with Simba from the lion King and a pink and purple flowed turtleneck shirt.

"Where's Mommy Sam?"

"Last time I saw her, she was Ironing her socks." the child paused thoughtfully then asked; "Why does Mommy iron her socks?"

"Because she doesn't like wrinkles." Tara answered simply.

"But nobody can see her socks anyway...they are always tucked into her shoes."

She has a point there Tara thought looking at her daughter. Samantha may look like Tara but she definitely had Willow's logical mind.
Tara pushed the plate of pancakes in front of Sam and set her juice down next to the little girl's plate.

Tara bit her thumb nail as she was worried about this afternoon. Today was the day that they would take Willow to the airport. She wasn't sure how Samantha was going to react. This would be the first time in nearly a year that Willow would be leaving town for a week, and the last time had been no picnic. But Tara knew that Willow was just as worried as she was, and if Willow could stay home she would.

Samantha had been doing better these last couple months though, It was odd, but the start of preschool had seemed to ease her separation anxiety a little. Tara held hope that things would go more smoothly this time around.

"Sammy...remember what today is?" Tara said softly, she needed to remind the little girl so that she could have time to adjust to the new situation.

Samantha's response was to push the pancake bites around her plate with her fork.

Tara didn't want to push her into talking about it, she just wanted to remind the child, so it didn't come as so much of a shock when it was time for them to actually go to the airport. Tara turned around and started to clear the counter of the mixing bowls and spoons , taking them to the sink.

"Mama?"

"Hmm...? Tara said not turning around from the sink.

Samantha scooted off the chair and skipped over to Tara. "Can I draw a picture for Mommy to take with her on the big airplane? " She looked up at Tara with a hopeful twinkle in her pale blue eyes.

"That's a wonderful Idea Sammy." Tara said wiping her hands on her apron, she knelt down in front of the child. "Mommy would really love that sweetie."

"Yeah?" Samantha asked excitedly.

"Yes. " she assured the girl. Tara was pleasantly surprised at how well Samantha was taking all of this.
"Do you want me to help you?" Tara asked, tucking a white strand behind Sam's newly pierced ear.

"No...I can do it by myself." Samantha started to skip away, but turned back , halfway across the kitchen "Mama? Will you help me write my letters when I'm finished?"

"You know I will." Tara was terribly proud of her daughter. She watched Sam skip off in search of crayons and paper.
Tara stood up, going to the back door. She pulled the door open and started to call Buffy and Dresden in for breakfast. She was caught off guard by the sight of the twelve year old and the blond locked in a mutual head-lock They looked up at Tara as she stood in the doorway, but didn't let go of each-other.

"Can you guys stop competing long enough to eat your breakfast or shall I feed it to Miss Kitty?" Tara asked, lifting her brows questioningly. Miss kitty was well known for her love of Tara's pancakes and the mention of the cat's name had its desired effect; The slayer and the boy let go of each-other, exchanged glances and headed into the kitchen.

Tara left them to argue about the finner points of tactical diversion, making her way instead, up the stairs in search of Willow.

**************************************

"It's been pointed out to me by a certain source, that shall remain nameless... No one can see your socks, so ironing them is kinda....quirky." Tara teased. She was leaning against the door frame with her arms crossed across her chest.

"Your source said all that?" Willow smiled looking up at the sound of the familiar voice.

"Well, I added that last part myself." Tara confessed, coming fully into the room she shared with Willow. This room had been Joyce's room before her death. Tara had never known the woman but from what she could make of her Buffy's mother had been an amazing woman.

Tara saw Willow's forehead crinkle up and she knew right away that there was something wrong. "Are you alright sweetie?"

"I don't know...I've just been feeling a little crazy lately. It's probably nothing..."

"Oh honey...you didn't tell me that. Are you sick? Tara asked pressing her hand to Willow's forehead."

"Nothing like that baby...Just a little insane...don't they make a pill for that?" Willow asked. Sitting on the bed, she slipped on the black socks.

"You tell me...you're the pill pusher. And besides... You don't need a pill...you need a time out." Tara was certain that Willow's mood had everything to do with the stress of this conference, Willow hated to fly.

"Am I in trouble?" Willow pretended to pout

"Will that help?" Tara said sitting next to her on the bed.

"That depends...Will I get a spankin?" Willow teased.

"Maybe...." Tara smiled, she couldn't help but mirror the red head's good mood.

"Okay...I'm in." Willow grinned cutely.

Tara brought her lips softly against Willow's. "Why don't I help you put the wrinkles back in these ?" Tara said, rubbing her bare feet against the textured fabric covering Willow's slim feet. Tara looked seductively at the red head, making sure to push her breasts forward just enough to give Willow a glimpse of what lay beneath the low cut blouse she wore.

"Is that an offer?" Willow asked, bringing her hand up to cup Tara's breast. She was never one to turn down an opportunity to touch Tara. She loved the blond's breasts. Willow kissed Tara again and at the same time her thumb moved across Tara's nipple. She held back a moan when she felt the bud stiffen under her thumb.

"Could be....." Tara drew out the words.

"MOM!?"

Willow pulled away from the heated kiss. "Why do we always get interrupted?" Willow said, expelling the breath she'd been holding in. Willow fell back onto the bed landing on her back.

"go see about your son." Tara said, patting the red head's leg.

"Oh really? Why is he my son every-time he's yelling?" Willow asked, kissing Tara one more time, making sure to push her tongue wantonly inside Tara's mouth. Willow pulled away when Tara tried to wrap her arms around her waist and pull her back onto the bed. "no no no" Willow said wagging her finger at Tara.

"Vixen..." Tara teased, tossing a pillow at Willow's quickly retreating form.

**********************************************

"Don't go Mommy..."

Sam's tiny voice tugged on Willow's heart, almost as equally as small hands wrapped themselves around Willow's middle and index fingers.

Willow knelt down eyes level with the little girl. "I won't be gone long Sammy, only a week. That's not so bad is it?" Willow pulled her daughter into a hug and felt the child nod her head sadly against Willow's shoulder.

It had been two years since the fire had burned down their house, and Willow knew that Sam was having a hard time with separation because of it. She hated that her boss was making her fly to Seattle for this conference, but it was mandatory, so she had no choice.
"Do you have the calender we made?" pulling back, the girl nodded, simultaneously wiping her tear-stained eyes with the back of her hand.
"And the pens to mark the days?"

The girl once again nodded. "Different colored pens." she said sniffing sadly.

"Mama and Brother will help you cross them off okay?"

Samantha just looked at her with the most heart-breakingly sad puppy-dog eyes Willow had ever seen. She wanted to cry.

Willow pulled Sam into another hug, softly rubbing the girl's small back in hopes of lending some comfort.

This was really hard time for Sam and Willow hated to leave her. She knew that the little girl really needed stability right now, and Willow leaving for a week, definitely wasn't stable.

Flight 4319 to Seattle is now boarding at gate C

Willow kissed Sam's head before standing up. She looked at Tara, who had tears, but was trying extra hard not to cry. Willow smiled at the blond weakly and she knew that Tara understood.

"You be a good girl for Mama" Willow said looking down at Samantha.
Willow brought her attention to Dresden, who, at the moment was standing rather stiffly next to Tara. He had been in a strange mood all morning,
"And you be a good girl too" Willow said poking Dresden teasingly.

"He will. "Tara chimed in.

This seemed to lighten the boy's mood because he actually smiled.

Final call for flight 4319 boarding at gate C

"That's me..." Willow said half-heartedly. One look into Tara's eyes said more than a million words ever could. Tara reached across and hugged Willow with Samantha squished between them.

All this was much to the chagrin of the many curious onlookers, shooting them confused glances. Willow didn't care, they could mind their own business for the next 30 seconds while she said good-bye to her family.

Willow pulled back "I have to go..."

"I know... Call us when you get settled" Tara said, running her hand down Willow's arm.

"Screw settled, I'll call as soon as the plane lands...or possibly from the plane...they have those little phones attached to the back of the seats and with one little nifty swipe of the credit card..."

"I get it..." Tara said, interrupting Willow's babble, she knew that if she let it go on much longer Willow would miss her flight. "I love you."

I love you too..." Willow said giving her family one last look before making the cliche mad dash for her gate.

*****************************

They watched Willow until she was no longer in view. Tara noticed the distraught expression on Samantha's face. "What's the matter baby?"

"I forgot to ask mommy something..."

"Oh honey...we'll call Mommy when she gets to the hotel okay?" Tara said softly.

"But I forgot to give her a hug and a kiss..." Samantha was near tears now

"You already did that Sam." Dresden was all to happy to point out. He'd been a bear all morning and Tara had to give him a warning glance.

"Mama! Dresden didn't give Mommy a hug and a kiss!"

"I did too...at home..."

"you did not!"

"I did too!"

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"who wants ice cream?! " Tara said cheerfully. she was trying to end the fierce battle she could see boiling between the two children before it had a chance to really start.

"I Do!" Dresden seemed a shade more chipper at the mention of Ice cream. Tara ruffled his hair and looked at Sam. She, unlike Dresden, seemed unaffected by the mention of ice cream. She wanted her Mommy and Tara knew how she felt. "Come on..." she said gently. Taking Sam by the hand, she had to half pull the girl along as they made their way out of the airport.

Emms, yay, I can't believe you started the sequel! I am so excited! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply but I am just settling back in from vacation for two weeks. No Internet where I was, can you believe that? No Internet... I started having fic withdrawals. :D Actually I was on the beach in Maui so I shouldn't be complaining. Can I just say again how impressive it is that you can work on more than one fic at a time. :bow

Take care and have a Happy Holiday!

Chapter Two

***************

Willow pulled the laptop out of her satchel. Opening it, she turned the power switch on. The screen blinked to life, casting a bluish glow around her. This conference was the last thing she needed right now. She hated to leave the kids....but mostly she hated being away from Tara....Tara had become her anchor, her strength they had become such a family, the three of them.

Willow double-clicked on the web sight, opening it, she typed in the name she'd been typing in for the last two years.

Rupert Giles

The screen cleared as it loaded the next page.

No match found.

Willow sighed, and closed the laptop without logging off. She rested her head back against the seat and closed her eyes.

She didn't blame him anymore...she wanted him to know that. Whenever she thought about their last argument, and the things she had said to him, she felt guilty. Willow couldn't imagine life without Dresden anymore than she could imagine life without Sam, he just fit.

At first Willow had been angry, Dresden had been so hurt in the first months after Giles had gone. He had stayed in his room most of the time, hardly even coming out to eat. He had had such a hard life and the only family he had known since his mothers death had abandoned him, at least that's the way he had seen it. And Willow guessed that's the way she had seen it too. But now the anger was gone, she just wanted to find the man she thought of as a second father. She hadn't had much luck in the last two years, a bite here or there, but the council hadn't left many loose ends, they'd covered their tracks pretty thoroughly.

She thought about the house her and Tara had bought together and smiled, It was a pretty, two-story home. There were four bedrooms and a large backyard. But the selling point had been the privacy factor. There were only three houses on the adjoining street and the backyard was fully fenced with trees planted around the outer side of the fence. It was perfect for them and even had a spare room, Willow could use for an office space. She shuddered a little at that thought, though she needed it, she still wasn't too keen on the Idea of another Office. She still couldn't forget about the last office. Willow definitely wasn't in the market for another "gateway to hell " taking up residence in the new house.

They had been keeping the house a secret from Buffy for a couple months now though everyone else already knew. They continued to live there with the slayer. Neither willow nor Tara had the heart to tell her that they were going to move. Buffy loved having the kids around, but they just couldn't live there anymore, both Tara and herself were feeling the need to a little privacy as of late and the kids were practically at each-other's throats almost all the time. They needed their own rooms. Dresden and Samantha were beginning to be living proof that too much togetherness was never a good thing.

This is your pilot speaking

Willow thought as the pilot continued to drone on in his suave hotel-lounge, pilot's voice. She mentally rolled her eyes. < It's like lalala I'm having coffee...and lalala now I'm accelerating, so you might feel a mild pick up in speed. Why can't they just fly the plane? All I really need to know is if the plane is crashing ..that would be an important announcement.> Willow was feeling quite cranky.

She reached over into the pocket of her business suit in search of a piece of gum to help calm her nerves. Her fingers came across a folded up piece of paper. Willow pulled it out and unfolded it. She smiled when she saw what it was.

In Tara's delicate hand writing was written one short sentence.

Sam thought you might need this.

Willow pulled the pictures out of the make-shift envelope. On green construction paper stood five crayon people all stick-figures with varying hairstyles. although there were names above the characters, Willow was able to pick Buffy out of the line up at once due to the very large sword Sam had given her. Tara stood next to Buffy; next came Dresden, then Willow and lastly Sam had drawn herself, holding onto crayon Willow's hand.

"Cute picture....you got kids huh?"

Willow glanced over at the man in the seat next to her. he looked nice enough dressed up in his Sunday best. Willow smiled at him and nodded her head slightly. She didn't feel much like talking, so she didn't encourage the conversation. Normally she would feel obligated to conversate but not today, she was too busy dreading the week ahead to worry about anything else.

*********************************

Willow sat her luggage on the queen size bed in the center of the rather large room. She looked around. On either side of the bed was a nightstand with a lamp permanently attached to it with a wire. There were French doors that lead to a large veranda . A kitchenette was placed near the entrance and a mid sized bathroom was at the end of a small hallway.

She noticed the phone sitting on the desk next to the television set, which also appeared to be attached to the dresser it was sitting on. She took the phone out of its cradle, tracing the lighted numbers, she bit her bottom lip as she dialed Buffy's phone number. Willow prayed Tara would answer, but after three rings her faith was beginning to waver.

Willow looked at the large watch on her wrist to find that she only had an hour to get showered and make the first meeting. If she didn't get to talk to Tara now, she would have to wait until this evening. Willow didn't know if she could do that, she was already going through Tara with-drawls...a couple more hours might just kill her.

Willow perked up when on the fifth ring, there was a click on the line followed by the sound of the familiar bustle of the everyday life she'd become so fond of.

"Hello?"

"Wow is it good to hear you voice. " Willow spoke into the phone. Tara's sweet hello was like a breath of fresh air.

"Hi sweetie. How was your flight?"

"Uggh..." Willow plopped herself down onto the bed. "Need I say more?"

"Definitely,"

There was a hint of tease in Tara's voice causing Willow to remember the interrupted moment earlier this morning. If she recalled correctly Tara had been about to help her wrinkle something..."Okay....how about...I miss you...and I love you... and I wish I were home right now....with you....upstairs....in bed....with my hand between--" Willow's voice flowed huskily into the receiver.

"Willow!"

"Oh how are we going to make it baby? I've only been gone for four hours and Im already craving everything about you. What are you wearing....?" Willow asked hotly, ignoring Tara's attempt to subdue the sexy talk.

"Clothes..."

"No....under those." This was getting frustrating.

"Well....a lacy-- wait a minute. We can't do this now honey, Samantha's standing right here."

"Where's Dres?" Willow decided to change the subject. She was getting nowhere with the sexy talk and Willow suspected that she would get nowhere with it while the kids were awake. She'd have to try again this evening.

"Hold on let me see...DRESDEN! here he comes..."

Willow could hear commotion in the background as Tara handed the phone to Dresden.

"Who is it ?"

"It's Mommy."

Willow smiled at the back and forth between Dresden and Tara.

"Oh..." There was a pause, then a very dry "Hi Mom"

"Hi buddy...what are you up to?" Willow asked.

"Nothing...."

"You helping out with Sam?" Getting conversation out of him seemed to be as hard as prying a pearl out of a particularly ornery oyster.

"uhhuh"

"I miss you..." she prodded

"I miss you too...You wanna talk to Mama?."

"Sure...hey Dres..I love you"

"I love you too....bye..."

"Wow he was a little pile "O" conversation wasn't he?" Willow joked, when Tara came back to the phone.

"You want me to beat him for you? "Tara teased.

"Maybe later..." Willow answered.

"Here's your baby girl...She forgot to ask you something this afternoon."

"Mommy...I forgot to ask you something..."

"Okay...Sam-Sam what is it?" Willow asked.

"Mommy... when are you coming home?"

"That's what you wanted to ask me?"

"Yes"

"I'll be home in one week remember?...To give you big hugs and big kisses."

"Cause you love me?"

It was an innocent question, but Willow knew her daughter enough to realize that Samantha was really asking for reassurance. "More than anything..." Willow was more than happy to give it to her.

"Okay...I love you Mommy."

"I love you too Sam-Sam"

Emms,

Wonderful update! Interesting that you started it with Willow going away for a week. LMAO at the "What are you wearing...?" comment. As a joke, I use that all the time with my friends, so it just cracked me up. Can't wait to see where you'll take us with this. :D

Happy New Year!

Okay, my immediate reaction to this update (after I'd read it) was a big AAAWWWWW!!! :)

Sammy's picture; Willow suffering Tara withdrawals; the sweet telephone conversation and Sammy needing some reassurance - it was all just so sweet :heart

And also, lol at Willow trying to get Tara to talk all sexy :laugh , there will be some sexy phone talk later right? :wink Please :pray :flirt :D

I'm glad that Giles has been forgiven, he was just doing what was best for Dresden. I hope they find him so that he can be part of the family again, it'll be interesting to see how everyone reacts to his return.

Oh, & just in case you were wondering, my immediate reaction to this update before I'd read it was something like this......

'Oh, Emms has posted in her thread, I wonder if it's an update?'

Jeanne glances up to the update thread & sees that the last person to post there is MissKittys Ball O Yarn. A big grin spreads across Jeanne's face (much like this :D )

'Yay! It is an update'

Jeanne bounces off (like one of these guys - :bounce ) to read the update (still with a big grin :D )

Keep up the great work :)

Hugs

More Sweetness

Postby wimpy0729 » Wed Dec 29, 2004 9:36 am

Emms, I think you're trying to give us all cavities with all this sweetness. But I'm sure not complaining because you do it so well. I loved it all, and then the teasing with almost giving us some sexy phone action, but no...not yet. I guess I'll just have to sit here and wait and maybe imagine what could have been said if there weren't children in the room. Isn't it time for them to go to bed yet?

Can't wait for more!

Hello everyone. Sorry, this isn't replies or an update just yet. I've been a busy little beaver these last couple weeks, and I've written enough for a couple more updates, I just haven't had the time to post them. Thankfully I have time this weekend, so you should expect an update on Saturday..and Also long overdue replies.

thank you so much for all your feedback and patience.

As promised, here's some replies for ya. Thanks to all the kittens who care enough to leave feedback. Writing can often begin to feel like a job or something (as Im sure most of you know) but reading feedback left by you wonderful kittens makes all things better. Thanks again.

**********************

Anna Happy new year to you as well. Im glad you thought the "what are you wearing" comment was funny. I think I said that to my wife once over the phone. ;)

****************************

Jeanne

My first reaction to seeing that your little kitten paw-print had stamped out another bit of feedback, was to run around and shout Woo Hoo! at the top of my lungs. :bounce and then when I calmed down long enough to read what you wrote, I was like... Woo hoo! again, only this time with a little less running. :D

yes yes... :rolleyes With the picture and the conversation there was much sweetness. I've been getting that a lot lately, maybe I should switch things up a little and write something Hot for a change. Maybe I should get down and dirty and use a few words normally reserved for sailors just off the boat. :blush I have been accused of giving cavities you know.... :D

*****************************

Wimpy You've just foiled my master-plan. I had the evil notion to give you all cavities through sweetness laden updates but since you "let the cat out of the bag" so to speak, I'll just have to come up with another evil scheme in order to achieve my goal of world domination. :gnome :p

*****************************

Kim hehe, hot and steamy to perfection huh? :eyebrow Actually.... I have put together a little something that would fall under that category...but I think I'll save it for later.

*****************************

CrazyTaraWitch Thanks for the feedback. I agree, Sammy is cute when she misses Willow. :laugh

*****************************

Rhiannon Sexy phone-talk! Yes Ma'am! *runs back to computer, to hack out a sexy phone-talk update.* :kgeek

And since I know you're having trouble deciding where to wait, I've come bearing suggestions... well.. just one suggestion really... you could divide up your energy and just chill in both fics at the same time. :brr :cool

*************************

All disclaimers apply especially the one which states the fact that I own nothing

Dresden looked up when Samantha came into the bedroom. He noticed she had her elephant pajamas on backward. There was supposed to be a picture of an elephant face on the front of the night-gown and an elephant butt on the back of it, but Samantha had it on the other way around. Dresden might have informed his sister of this mistake if he hadn't found it so funny. He might also have mentioned it, if he thought it would do any good. He had the suspicion his little sister had put her pajamas on the wrong way on purpose.

Dresden paid only minimal attention to her as she skipped to the bookshelf, paused thoughtfully before finally selecting the Sesame Street Lift and Look flap book off the self.

He went back to reading his book in earnest as Sam settled down on her own bed.

***************************

Dresden switched off the lamp next to his bed. He rolled over, staring at the Elmo night light next to Samantha's twin sized bed. It had been a long day and he was tired but he couldn't seem to go to sleep. Something didn't feel right. Aunt Buffy was out patrolling and that was pretty normal. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he missed his adopted Mom. Dresden thought back to when the woman he'd come to love so much had been just Willow. Now she had turned into someone to be missed. And he could feel the loss of her. It made him sad. He wandered if his Mama was asleep or awake like he was. He guessed she was still awake. She was probably reading or something, she always did that when Mom was gone. Dresden turned on his back staring up at the ceiling, he tired to think of something else.

"Dresden".... he heard Samantha whisper from across the room. He was surprised to hear her, he thought she had fallen asleep already.

Dresden turned over in his bed to face her side of the room. "What?" he said, too tired to even try to add annoyance into his voice.

"I miss mommy..."

Dresden thought about teasing her, but a second before the words came out of his mouth he changed his mind. He loved Sam and he didn't want to hurt her feelings anymore, besides he missed Mom too. "Me too Sammy..."

"I want to sleep in Mama's bed."

"Me too..." He was being way too honest.

"Come on...."

Dresden hesitated for a moment but got up out of bed and followed his little sister down the hall to his parents room.

**************************************

Tara fingered the ring on her finger. Remembering the day she and Willow had shared their union Ceremony with family and friends on top of the bluff, over looking the ocean nearly a year ago. Tara smiled as she remembered the way the wind had blown Willow's hair around her face. Tara remembered thinking that Willow was the most beautiful woman in the world at that moment.

She had committed herself to Willow long before that though. From the first second they'd seen each-other across the room that night at the bronze she'd been Willow's, but there was something to be said for proclaiming it officially before the God and Goddess.

There was only one thing missing from that wonderful day. Mr. Giles hadn't been there. Willow had pretended that the lack of his presence hadn't mattered, but Tara knew the red head well enough to know that she hadn't meant it. Willow had a tendency to play strong even when she was feeling like crumbling to the floor. Tara had to fight sometimes, just to get Willow to talk about her fears.

She saw a lot of Willow in Samantha. The little girl would hardly ever tell them about what bothered her, she tended to keep everything bottled up on the inside, until her feelings were so compact that she'd have a total melt-down.

Tara was sitting up in bed. She closed the journal she'd been writing in when she heard the soft knock on the door.

She looked at the clock on the dresser. The children had lasted slightly longer than she thought they would. It had been at least 45 minutes since she'd tucked them both into bed. With kiss and a prayer to the Goddess, she'd left them there in the soft glow of Sammy's Elmo night-light.

Tara set the journal down on the night stand next to the bed, and arranged herself, preparing to offer comfort but to ultimately turn them back to their own beds.

"Come in" she said, gently.

Samantha and Dresden came in. Samantha was looking anxious and twisting the fabric of her night-gown between her fingers. Dresden looked sheepish and embarrassed. "We miss Mommy..." Dresden was apparently the spokesman for the two of them. Tara smiled at Dresden, he'd never called Willow Mommy always preferring the more mature sounding "Mom" to anything else. so this sudden change in names surprised her. "Can we sleep with you Mama?" Samantha chimed in, concerned that Dresden wasn't going into any further detail of their needs. Tara felt her heart begin to melt. The two of them just looked so sad, standing there in the doorway. But she remained strong, despite the motherly urge inside that was calling for her to scoop up her children and make them hot cocoa and bake them fresh cookies.

"I think it's important for you two to sleep in your own bed tonight." Tara said. She and Willow had decided a month ago to put an end to the nightly commandeering of their bed that had become a familiar event after they'd moved to Buffy's. Tara knew she had to stay firm about this, even though the urge to make an exception just this once was strong within her. Tara watched the children exchange a defeated glance. She motioned for them to join her on the bed. Samantha came over to Tara's side, allowing Tara to lift her up onto the bed. Dresden climbed on at the foot of the bed before settling on Willow's pillow. "fifteen minutes and then you go back to your own beds. agreed?"

Both Dresden and Samantha nodded their heads, indicating that they understood the stipulations of their stay.

Samantha instantly snuggled down and wrapped her arm around Tara at the same time the little girl's fingers found her mouth. Tara reached down and gently removed the little girls fingers from her mouth. Samantha didn't protest the gentle reminder. Tara knew that Sam was missing Willow and regressed to the old mode of comforting herself to compensate her loss. But Tara also knew that Samantha was a very sensitive child and took great pride in being a big girl and Tara wanted to reinforce that in her daughter. "Night Mama..." Samantha's speech was heavy with sleep.

"Night Sam" Tara kissed the girls forehead.

A few seconds later the peaceful silence was broken by Dresden "Night Mama"

"Night John boy." Tara smiled at the reference. She had grown up watching Little House on the prairie and took every opportunity to use that joke. It was lost on Sam, but Dresden got it, there was a snicker before a pillow hit Tara in the head.

"You're not getting that back young man." Tara pretended sterness

"That's okay...It was worth it."

Tara smiled to herself, Dresden may have been gloomy and scowling as of late, but his sense of humor was right on point.

**********************************************

Tara closed the door to the children's room. The house was quiet as she headed back to her own room. Just as she was getting back into bed, the phone rang. Tara picked it up on the second ring. She knew who it was. Tara could swear that she can tell whenever her wife is calling by the way the ring tone seems all hopped up on caffeine.

"Hello" Tara breathed into the phone.

"Baby...."

Tara slipped under the covers, the pajama pants and tank top she wore creating a muted, warmth around her. That paired with the sound of Willow's voice eased away some of the tension in her body, only adding to the warmth she was feeling.

"I miss you....." Tara felt choked up. She hadn't let herself breakdown for the kids sake, but she was with Willow now, and she couldn't help all the emotion she'd been holding in since this morning come pouring out of her. "I'ts not the same here without you Will. I miss you so much......"

"Shh... I know....come here..."

Tara knew what Willow was offering. Mentally, Tara snuggled into Willow's open arms. She imagined Willow next to her in bed. "Kiss me Will...?" She needed the comfort of the familiar, and there was nothing more familiar to Tara than Willow's lips.

There was a sound on the phone as willow pressed her lips to the receiver. It might have been a phone-kiss but Tara felt it all the way down to her toes. She imagined that Willow was on top of her, with her lips against Tara's neck. Tara opened her mouth to tell willow what she was thinking but was too late, as Willow was already breathing into the phone.

"Can you feel me on top of you....?"

Tara knew that shared a deep connection, and that they were soul mates, but it never ceases to amaze her just how deep their connection is. Willow was right there with her in her mind, they were so in-sync. "Oh yes... " She answered her wife.

"Touch for me....."

"Willow....I need you"

"You have me..... Just close you're eyes, and I'm there with you.... can you feel me?"

"Yes...." Tara's reply was a breathy whisper into the phone. Tara slipped her hand into her pajama pants, stopping on the soft skin of her stomach, her fingertips were just under the elastic of the satin panties she wore. Willow's words were making her more than warm, in fact the red heads words were making her downright hot. Her chest felt heavy and her stomach tightened. She could hear Willow breathing steadily on the other end. Tara's eyes were closed, her eyelashes resting softly against her cheeks. She could see the warm glow of the lamp even through her closed eyes, it created a maroon blanket that wrapped itself around her body. Her hand inched downward, until she felt the soft curls of her sex under her finger tips. Willow's sweet voice was crooning softly in her ear and Tara thought she could feel Willow's breath tickling the delicate skin just below her ear. She imagined Willow's moist lips pressing hot against her neck as Tara slipped her hand completely between her own legs. She felt the wetness there and was overcome with a need for it to be Willow's hand there instead of her own.

"Go inside baby......"

Tara didn't hesitate, slipping her fingers deeply inside herself. She couldn't help a moan escaping her lips, as she heard Willow's breathing become choppy.

Her release was instantaneous, and she fought to keep control of herself. She didn't want to make too much noise and chance waking the kids. but it was so hard to hold back as her release flowed over her like a river. Tara turned her face to the side, muffling her moans through the fabric of her pillow.

" I love you Will..." Tara spoke softly, she felt tears sting the back of her eyes. She kept her eyes shut tightly, afraid that if she opened them, she would once again be faced with the reality of the situation. Tara fell into Willow's murmured words of love.

Wow, I think you broke me, in a really, really, really good way :D That was HOT!!!!!!! :thud Phone sex... goooood!! :drool

Ahem, sorry, recovered now :blush :)

I must say, that update was wonderful (as if you'd deliver anything less than wonderful-ness :) ).

Dresden & Sam were so sweet, I was all lol & aww at Sam's backwards PJ's - that was such an adorable visual :)

I'm glad Tara was strong enough to make the kids sleep in their own beds, 'cos otherwise we couldn't have had that yummy phone-sex-scene, which would have been bad, 'cos my goodness, that was a HOT scene :thud

Keep up the great work sweetie

Thanks to everyone who's reading and leaving feedback, I really appreciate all your kind words.

Henny Thank you for your kind words. There are so many great fics out here and I am just honored that you consider mine to be among them.

I am so humbled to know that my writing has touched you in that way. People have a tendency to think that they put stuff out there and it doesn't really reach anyone. It's really wonderful when someone comes out to say anything remotely close to what you said. Thank you.

Jeanne hehe broken? I should be punished :punish See (punished in a good way though :flirt ) I told you I can sailor-talk with the best of 'em. :smug

And I second your Aww regarding Samantha's backward pajama's, what's a fic without a cute pajama mishap?

that is too sweet :aww I suddenly have the urge to get back to work on the next update for this fic.
