OOH, thank you. I thought the movie was missing something in that scene, they went straight to the nakedness, this fills in the nice spots. I like teh shot of Lucy on Amy, niiiice. It was great without it but I am not going to complain :d

Thanks, runnerbird. (Welcome back!).
Just a few more days until D.E.B.S. comes out on DVD. I'm waiting with baited breath. I ordered mine from the Borders next to my work.

Well I finally got to watch it last night because the copy I ordered from Wolfe came yesterday woo hoo. It was really a very cute movie. I would have looked the same cast as the short but the actor who played Lucy Diamond was a hottie. Very fun movie. I really enjoyed it.

Yay! It arrived yesterday.

I was sad to see that the original short was not included in the extras, but I imagine there's some licensing things at work with Power Up! that prevent that from happening. The extras were kinda lackluster, save for the Deleted Scenes (extended love scene in widescreen, oh yeah! :dance ) and the "Infiltrating D.E.B.S" interviews. They were interesting to watch.

I watched it through with the audio commentary on, which is something I absolutely never do, and it was pretty funny. A lot of talk about whose hair looks good during the filming, and lots of complimenting each other's looks/hair/body while Megan Goode says (paraphrasing), "We sound totally gay." There's also a really funny part where they're watching one of the montages and The Hotness comments that they should have Team America's song "Montage" playing over it. :lol

Very cool buy. I anticipate watching once every day for at least a week.

Ah! I had forgotten about that video. I guess that explains things. Too bad. I've seen the others on that disk and wasn't too interested in them, but I may have to eventually shell out the bucks so that I can get the D.E.B.S. short.

Hiya, Nixel. I believe I have the D.E.B.S. short somewhere around here on VHS. I stumbled onto it some months back, about a minute before it was to start, either on IFC or Sundance Channel. It was so quite by chance I was floored, but managed to pop a tape in my good old VHS, then hit "record."The quality is ok, except I think I put a couple of wrinkles in the tape by playing a couple of scenes over and over and over. :grin
If you want to borrow it, or something, you know how to get a hold of me, okay?

Finally caught the D.E.B.S. short on Sundance Channel yesterday...it's delightful, but I admit I'm skeptical about blowing it up to feature length. The general reviews suggest I'm right to be.

Anybody have any thoughts? I guess what I'm asking is how does it play as a movie apart, if you will, from "the lesbian thing."

This just appeared in the UK on DVD and I have to say that it plays as pretty fair romantic comedy even without the twist in the usual good girl/bad boy cliche. Of course if you analyze the plot the way certain websites are prone to it doesn't stand up but if you just kick back and enjoy the ride its cool.

We just watched D.E.B.S. tonight and it was so funny and sweet! I hadn't heard anything about it one way or another beforehand. At first I was a little bit like "WTF" but quickly started enjoying it. I LOVED the Janet character (glad they kept her in it from the short) and of course Amy and Lucy were h-o-t.

ETA: my spouse and I agreed that the Amy character was a little Tara-esque in some places - some of the same mannerisms and all.

I bought this movie a few weeks ago (and have seen it a fair few times since then) and it's just awesome. I love everything about it. Angela Robinson did an AWESOME job! Janet was so funny (and, i think, really looked like Amber in some of her shots...) and the Lucy/Amy thing was just so well done. Definately my new favourite movie. It was so well scripted and Jill Richie and Jimmi Simpson did awesome jobs with the comedy. Here's hoping DEBS 2 gets made.... :pray

I've only seen the clips on the web, but is there a lot more to the movie than just the Lucy/Amy love storyline?

It seems from the clips, that the entire movie basically revolves around their relationship. I was just wondering if there are any like, scenes completely unrelated to the two (not that I'd prefer that, haha). Thanks.

Christmas in this household - this year at least - has been D.E.B.S christmas, first time we watched it.

I came to it with mixed feelings. I'd seen the short some time ago and thought it had a lot of promise, but knew that to get a 12 rating (UK) then it had been toned down some which implied not just less intimacy but also probably a younger humour. But actually it surprised us.

To answer your question (a few months late) S82v if it wasn't for the lesbian romance aspect (say with straight characters) it would probably still be what it was, a pretty decent way to spend 90 minutes. Not great, but funny in places and a good parody of its genre. Quite aside from the romance there are some great scenes with Lucy's henchman Scud and also with the least successful of the DEBS Janet, played nicely by Jill Richie.

Without the lesbian angle we probably would have missed it since it's not so good that you just have to see it regardless, but if I had seen it I wouldn't have turned it off.

To answer your actual question though - if you removed the romance entirely you'd be left with less than the short! The story is built around it.

Now, when you bring Jordanna Brewster into the equation...

I'd only seen her in the Faculty before (all hail Clea Duvall!) and didn't think much of her in that film. But she was a revelation here. She has a knack for comedy that was perhaps a little in evidence in the Faculty. Here, working with Scud (Jimmi Simpson), she really is good at the "straight" role (to his funny guy!) She looks more impressive in her action scenes than any of the D.E.B.S and somehow you can believe in the chemistry between her and Sara Foster.

Speaking of Sara Foster, she wasn't great IMHO but she was perfectly good enough and made me believe in the character (as much as you can believe in a parody!)

If I had anything else to say it would be that the other characters were a little thin, but i wouldn't want to give up any percentage of the Lucy/Amy screentime for that. And all hail a lesbian film, about spys and bad girls no less with lots of guns, where no one dies!

Also those deleted scenes should have been in the film! Is that the difference between ratings in the States? I think, even with the deleted scenes, it would have passed 12 in the UK. Shame... but we know its there don't we?

It's just a shame that the writer/director had to go do Herbie Fully Loaded to get any sort of promotion. We won't get a D.E.B.S 2 after how this performed, but there's always a Pens fic to read thats a parody of this parody. LOL.

Sally, I totally agree (I just watched it a few days ago). Amy Bradshaw's expressions and mannerisms were like Tara. Actually I was kinda thinking Sara Foster is a little like Amber Benson... only TONS taller. Amazing David Foster's daughter is so hot.

I also think that the first impression the Lucy actress is that she resembles a very young Demi Moore but MUCH cuter.

The movie's really funny but movies like that don't win awards and stuff. I'd just take it as a nice lighthearted lesbian comedy that I would definitely want in my movie collection! The actresses aren't THAT bad at acting actually.

Finally watched this wonderful film this past weekend - it's been a little hard to find up here (in hicksville, Canada? Go figure) but it was so completely worth the effort. Just a lovely, funny, fluffy take on the spy movie genre, and with a really fun lesbian romance angle as well - with nobody dying or going insane or anything, so big plus there! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it yet - I'm pushing it on pretty much everyone I know. :-D

Only downside to this one is the bruises Amy gave me for drooling over Jordana Brewster - still worth it, though!

I finally rented it after seeing the original 11minute version on IFC or Sundance cable channel. It was fun but I have to admit that the 11 minute version was better than the movie. For some reason the movie was rather long for the concept IMHO and the "boyfriend" for Amy seemed extraenous to me. Also I didn't see why Lucy had to "reform". I like that in the short it's implied that they only date when Lucy "kidnaps" Amy. I agree that Lucy in the movie was very drool worthy but I also liked the one in the short played by the same actor who did Glory. Still a fun flick with a great ending.

I think the reviewers who hated this movie missed the whole point...it's a spoof! It's supposed to be a little bit cheezy and silly!!! Also it's not James Bond, OK people? It's a love story and a comedy! That being said...I have been entranced with Jordana Brewster ever since the first time I saw her...and yes, I think she may actually be more beautiful than Angelina Jolie...if that is even possible on this planet...anyway, one Jordana-fest no one has mentioned is the thing I first saw her in...it was a TV miniseries called "The '60s" also with the blonde chick from 10 Things I Hate About You whose name utterly escapes me at the moment and Jerry O'Connell...it is actually quite good...and is available on video...3+ hours and Jordana is one of the main characters...so go to your video store and look for it...you won't be disappointed

I liked this. It wasn't groundbreaking drama, but it wasn't meant to be. I liked that it was a movie about lesbians without any of the usual angst!

I tend to watch this movie whenever I see it on cable...no matter how much of it I've already missed. Even if I only catch the last 3 minutes. For some reason, I can't concentrate if I don't turn my TV to whichever channel it's on.
