Re: Survivor - Ash Island

Emms – Thanks so much. Interesting that you’re feeling more emotional about Tara voting Willow off now than before. Kind of the opposite of how Willow feels.

but I don't think Tara won....that would seem a little too obvious I think *(though, I hope she did win )
Please make all the guesses you want. Well I could agree that it would be too obvious but then we could get into the whole mind bender about whether it would be obvious to do something that everyone assumes you won’t do because it’s too obvious etc. (Really the best explanation is from the Sicilian in The Princess Bride).

You’re always welcome and thanks for your new story. How about updates on the old ones too though? Just asking. No pressure.

Irene73 – Oh I totally get it about looking back over the pictures and thinking that I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. And I definitely look forward to Asher’s getting bigger and then we’ll have another baby. I guess it’s just that he’s such fun today, all the time, that it’s hard to imagine it getting better. But I believe you about the best years to come! It’s all awesome.

Don’t worry about harshing Willow. I do it all the time (especially when thinking about season six). However, I’m glad she got your respect back with her interviews today.
Willow, this experience was more than just about winning a million dollars.
Absolutely!

I’m glad you thought the interviews and the R&K were spot-on. Thanks.
The good ones are alway taken! But because it's Willow and Tara...I'm okay with it...okay more than okay...deliriously happy. That's alot of okay's I wrote!
Also because they’re fictional???

Thanks so much.

littlecrazy80 – Thanks so much.

Kajun – Thanks. I’m glad you liked them so much. Yeah, of course the interviewers would want their guest to give away something early but they didn’t succeed.

I’m not surprised that you found the Pepper Watson article your favorite. It was the most fun to write and went the easiest. Definitely nice to approach the interviews from a more pro-gay stance than the first two. Thanks.

watersong84
That was great! I loved that you used "Pepper Magazine" in the update! Haha .
No problem. Watson loaned it to me at a pretty low price. Of course she has an easy time with that as she’s out claiming land all over the board so she doesn’t really miss the money. Seems like a lot of fic cross-over in the last few days doesn’t it? Kind of fun.

Sounds like PRIDEFEST was great. Yeah, I thought the sequestered question was pretty hard. Get this:

The guy who won Survivor 9 was the only guy left when the family visit happened (I think there were 7 people left). His fiancé came on and they competed together or immunity. He told her straight out that if he didn’t win immunity he was going home (which he believed). He didn’t win immunity. When he got home he told her that he was voted off then. Before the show, they both packed their bags to go to New York for the interviews. The same thing happened every week from then on: he told her he was voted off and they packed their bags. Eventually she had to go to therapy over it (no kidding). He won and she was completely shocked. Could you imagine having to be that sneaky with your fiancé? Not me.

I totally get the mix of excitement and sadness over this ending. Thanks.

AnirtakEnigma – Lol. Mr. Stick man? Thanks so much.

Boadecia – Hi again. Thanks.

Watson – Hey there. Name looks familiar for some reason…

You have the style and tone of Pepper perfectly! Providing a mix of information, speculation, analysis and of course the interview with Willow.
Cool. I’m so glad I nailed it: you’d know.

Good thought about the zine talking about KB. I wanted to keep it more to discussion of general interest in the show and the relationship rather than focusing on a group following the show. And now I think I actually confused myself.

I think we can assume that Willow prepared for all her interviews knowing that the interviewers would want to ask about the relationship as well as the outcome. I think it’s also probably reasonable to assume that CBS takes a pretty proactive role in preparing castaways for the interviews and reviewing anything like the Pepper article. Actually they probably wouldn’t allow the Pepper article but this is fiction. I mean think about it: sure Willow can answer most questions without screwing up but they have to worry about people like Xander too. And yes, she has definitely won. Plus which… maybe her girlfriend is going to win a million dollars? :evil

It wasn't only until the Regis interview that I realized how risky Willow's position could have been -- viewed by Akathla as a turncoat and by MFashnek as an outsider, it's a wonder she lasted 33 days.
Really? I think that it would look like that to her all the time. The fact is that if they had lost a IC sooner, she’d be gone. I mean given the choice wouldn’t you vote off the newbie rather than your f-strong MFaithnek?

Oh man, can you imagine this Willow’s tape? Lots of shots of her walking through bars, dancing with hot women, typing a little code, having coffee (with more women), attending Pride (more women), and showing off Atlanta’s hotspots (more women). Sort of a Nick Hornby/High Fidelity, addressing the camera take.

Glad you like the speculation about Ariel’s origin. Thanks always.

SallyMcFine -
One of the many reasons I like this fic is the variety of ways the story gets told. Present day, flashback, on the island, off the island, interactions between the contestants, private interviews, and of course the media. It really presents a rich tableau and gives a full picture of who these characters are and how their actions match what they say.
That’s one of the reason I love writing it so much too. And you used the word [i]tableau[/b]. Points for you for sure. Well done.

Glad you thought Willow did well. Thanks.

Always410 – Thanks so much. Like I said above, writing in the different styles is quite fun and it provides a break that keeps this story fresh. Thanks. So much.

caz – Boo hiss on hay fever. I used to have it really bad but I went to acupuncture and it’s hardly even an issue for me at all. Anyway, I’m glad that the Survivor ep helped you.

I agree that Willow’s pretty good at the interviews. I think that she has a pretty good idea what is coming and is prepared to be honest and straightforward about it. I also think it’s pretty apparent that she’s tailoring her answers to the forum somewhat: different responses for TES, R&K, and Pepper. I actually considered having Pepper ask her some really off-color and inappropriate questions (something like that fic in the challenge #1 where Willow was a dj?) but it was just too weird to write.

Like I said, I’d be terrified if Asher wanted to do that. Last night he held on to the big-kid swing while swinging like I said but took his hands away to sign down when he was done. Since he was still swinging he started falling and I caught him by one leg and then picked him up. Scared the crap out of me and of course when I hugged him, he said… “down.” (his favorite word!). I think my hair turns more gray every day, but I’m shooting for white and distinguished.

dragonfly – Don’t worry about late and how wonderful to have a vacation. Thanks about Asher. Yes, Ariel will be fine tomorrow about being mad at Tara. Good someone else who agrees that Willow has had plenty of time to “get over it.” Glad you thought the cabin update cleared things up. I love that part and it was quite fun to write too.

I'm not familiar with The amazing kitten race, sorry Watson, I'll do my best to start reading it. I read "Common Areas", very exciting story.
Not just because I’m a suck up but you must read KAR! It is hysterical and very full of W/T goodness.

I understand about the lurking because I did it for a long time too. Glad you like my writing. Thank you.

sneakykitty2002 -

so my roughly 100 posts are now gone..sigh to that.
If you send a note to the mods with your old post count they can reinstate them for the old one. I think there is still a thread on the top forum but if not, I’m sure you can e-mail or PM them.

This is quite frankly, my favorite AU fic ever! of any genre!!
Wow and wow? I’m so stoked about that. You’re obviously well-read so your praise means a lot. I didn’t even know there was fan fic for all those shows. I guess I used to watch ER but don’t watch anything any more. Actually I think the last hour of TV I watched was the Amazing Race finale.

That’s so cool that you love this fic so much that you got your gf’s mom and your gf into it. Tell them I said hi and thank you.

And I join the bus of kittens who would kill for a continuation of this once it is over (even though you dont do that generally )
Nope. Not gonna happen but thanks anyway.

Artemis – Exactly! Willow is their last shot at keeping Survivor in people’s minds over the weekend. They need to really push her to get the “last non-final four” person and the “final four” out there. And as you point out, certainly her relationship with Tara allows them to really push the PR.

I wonder how Tara will fare - perhaps if Faith wins, the press will be more interested in her, and Tara's interview schedule won't be too hard for her.
One bummer thing about the way they do the final four (or the final three teams in Amazing Race) is that none of them have a solo vote-off appearance. The next morning all four will be on the morning shows and usually they go on all the PR together. Sometimes the winner goes on David Letterman or something alone but usually they are together. I think it sucks for #3 and #4 but for Tara, maybe it will be a good thing this time (and no, I did not just say that she is not #3 or #4).

I liked how it was obvious Tara was there for Willow's Early Show interview, just off-stage.
Yes. I considered writing the night before update right up to before the show including, Harry being thrilled that Tara was there and telling her that if she brings Ariel, the little girl can tour the studio etc. but felt that the night should end where it ended.

Cool thoughts on the ending. Also, congrats on your recent brush(es) with fame.

tarawhipped – Hey Cam. I can totally understand the not loving TES updates. They aren’t that interesting but they are easy to write and I think a nice add-in. Glad that the contrast in the three interviews was so apparent. I definitely think that we (kittens) have a very different view of W/T than the viewing public or for that matter, some players might. To outsiders it might very much look like they are just playing the game and don’t really care for each other at all.

I'm getting so excited for the finale! Are you doing the 2 hour last show and reunion special in one post? That'd be a lot, but I'd almost be willing to wait an extra week to have it all in one go.
See the faqs. In short: three posts each one approximately an hour of show. I don’t think many people would agree with you about putting it off an extra week but you could certainly not read it for longer. Ha ha.

Graceland – Wow. I think this is your first post so welcome. :wave Always great to see a new feedbacker.
Long time reader, first time caller.
Like on the radio! Great.

Glad you like the interspersed parts and Ariel. She’s a cutie. Thanks.

Tonto – Hey again and you’re floating rose now! Yes, the next update will be part 1 of the two parter on the island and 3 parter on Sunday night. Please don’t make a mess. Thanks so much.

Naeryn – Hey there. I just commented your quite intriguing new fic. Lol: Ariel = second coming. Keep in mind that Willow’s number of interviews is due not only to her being family (in the case of Pepper) but to the fact that she’s #5 so the last not final four. They need the PR to gear up for Sunday night. Thanks so much.

stillrunning – Lol about Kelly. Glad you liked it.

Welllllllllllll it is 2:28 in the morning. I got home..about an hour ago. I graduated from high school ( :bounce :dance ) and thought I'd check out how this was coming. Waiting for my baby to wake up so I can say good morning to her. I'm MUCH to hyper to be sleeping right now. So...yeah. *beams* I love leaving feedback so...you know. (Apparently even enough to leave feed back ABOUT feedback. :P) Well, gonna go see what else is new with the kittens.

Wow some how my "watching this topic" keeps getting bumped and I miss updates. I think I've checked to watch it 3 or 4 times now, weird huh? I'm going to have to keep an eye on the update thread instead I guess. :-D

I knew Willow was going to be voted off, I know how much it hurt Tara but I'm glad she stuck to her originally pact, it shows integrity. And actually in her post vote-off interviews Willow appears to respect that. Thanks for sharing what happened in the cabin, as hard as that was to stop what they were doing, Tara was right they were in the middle of a game. The interviews with Willow were funny, they all came around to "the relationship" didn't they? Willow never missed a beat though, she seems very comfortable with herself.
Great last two updates!

Always410 – Congratulations! That’s so great. Feedback about feedback. LOl.

irishgrl3 – Gee, I hope you don’t miss this one since I’m posting early. Yes, I virtually always post in the update thread. Also, if you notice the replies going up fast, it probably means there was an update.

Yeah, I think that Willow’s fate was widely speculated but still it was hard to read for most people. I agree that Tara’s actions show her integrity. Willow definitely respects both the decision to wait in the cabin and to vote her off the show. Thanks so much.

Title – Survivor – Ash Island

Part 31 – Week Twelve

Author – JustSkipIt

Pairing – R/F/K/T

Feedback – Oh yes.

Spoilers – None

Rating – PG

Disclaimer – I own none of these characters nor do I own Survivor. And believe it or not, I also don’t own any small islands. On the other hand, this island is fictional so let’s say I own it. I’m making no money from this fiction and intend no copyright infringement.

Note 1 – There was a reader who correctly guessed the final four a long, long time ago. I’ve scanned back through the posts twice and I can’t find it. However, to that reader I say: Congratulations. :clap :clap :clap Well done!

Note 2 – I personally know very little about volcanoes. But the internet is a wonderful thing. You can find out a lot about volcanoes like the answers to all of today’s questions.

Note 3 – Yeah I know. I said Sunday but I’m getting this finished or close so I can speed up the updates.

Day 34
Everyone is very slow to rise and emerge from the small shelter. Finally we see them all sitting around the fire drinking water and eating some berries and plantains.

“Remember when we had coffee?” Kendra says.

“Very fondly,” Robin agrees.

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionist
“L-last night we voted off Willow.” She takes a deep breath. “I really thought that it would be Robin who went and we’d have an all girl f-final four. But he won immunity and she’s gone. I feel sad that she’s gone and at the same time, I have a game to play.

“How much food do we have left?” Faith asks.

Just then a small-plane flies low over the camp. As the survivors all stand and move slowly toward the water the plane circles and drops a small crate with a parachute from the plane into the shallow water. Everyone is excited by the obvious gift. “Presents!” Kendra shouts as she and Robin rush into the water to retrieve the box.

Printed on the box are the words “FINAL FOUR” in capital letters. Using the machete, Faith pries off the cover and all four scream as they see what is inside. Inside the crate are a bottle of Champaign, a carton of orange juice, a bottle of milk, a dozen eggs, four steaks, and fresh strawberries and pineapple. As Tara pulls each item from the crate, they all scream their excitement. They quickly open the Champaign and each take a drink.

Confessional Caption – Kendra – Interpreter
“Oh mon. There we were bemoaning our lack of food and the day in general and what shows up? Food. I feast mon.”

We see Tara cooking the eggs and steak and all the finalists enjoying their reward. After some discussion the group decides that they will take the day entirely off. They won’t even gather firewood but will count on what has already been collected. Throughout the day we see shots of them sunbathing, sleeping, or swimming. Toward nightfall we see them quietly watching the stars.

Day 35
The Survivors are all just emerging from their shelter as Jeff walks into camp. “Morning, Jeff,” Faith yawns.

“Good morning, everyone,” Jeff says. He takes a seat and asks how they are all doing.

“We’re all great,” Kendra says.

“Good. Then you will be ready for an immunity challenge.” Shaking their heads and rubbing their eyes sleepily, the Survivors stand up and follow him as he walks from their camp to challenge beach.

They reach the beach and see a log sitting sideways on the beach. Jeff directs everyone to take a seat on the log. In front of the players are four chalk slates.

“Today we will have a quiz,” Jeff explains. “The person who gets the most questions right will win immunity.” Everyone nods. “Ok,” Jeff says, “you have all spent 35 days on an island with one of the most active volcanoes in the world. In fact, you witnessed an eruption recently and had your campsite showered with volcanic ash.”

“First Question: Volcanoes such the one you have lived near for the past 5 weeks, Mount Griffin, and those found in Hawaii typically have basalt lava. How hot is basalt lava: A 350 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, B. 1000 to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, C. 1800 to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit, or D. 10,000 to 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit.”

The players write their answers and wait for Jeff to tell them to reveal their answers. Kendra and Tara have both answered C, Robin answered B, and Faith answered D. “And the correct answer is C: 1800 to 2300 degrees. That’s one point for Tara and Kendra.”

“True or False: one sign that a volcano is about to erupt is a bulge near the volcano?”

Everyone writes the answer and holds up their board. “Faith, Kendra, and Tara all say true. Robin says false,” Jeff reports. “The answer is True. That’s two points Kendra and Tara, one point Faith, and Robin not on the board yet.”

“At any given time, how many volcanoes are erupting in the world? A: 1 to 2, B: 2-5, C: 5-10, or D: more than 10.”

After the Survivors reveal their guesses, Jeff looks at the answers before reporting. “The correct answer is D which means Robin and Kendra get the points. Tara answered A and Faith answered C. That’s three points Kendra, Two Tara, and one each for Faith and Robin.” He explains, “By the way the estimates are that at any given time about 20 volcanoes are erupting with about 12-15 of those being volcanoes that are constantly erupting.”

“What country has the largest volcano in the world?” Jeff asks.

“Tara and Faith said the US, Kendra says Argentina, Robin says Chile. The correct answer is the US with the largest volcano being Mauna Loa in Hawaii.” He reports that “Tara and Faith right back in the competition with Kendra and Tara at three, Faith at two, and Robin at one point.”

“Next question: who is Pele?”

The survivors all write before showing their slates. “Tara writes Goddess of Fire. Kendra says Goddess of Fire/Volcanoes. Faith says Saint of Ash Island. Robin writes ‘Soccer player?’” Everyone laughs good naturedly at Robin’s answer. “Tara and Kendra both earn another point so they lead at four each. Faith still at two and Robin has one.”

“Ok. This is the last question. Only Tara and Kendra need to answer it since only they can win. Closest to the answer we are looking for will win. How many active volcanoes are there in the world?”

We see the disappointed look on Robin’s face and then the somewhat smug smile on Faith’s. Tara and Kendra seem to be concentrating on the question and finally write their guesses.

“Tara done with her answer and now Kendra’s finished.” Both women turn around their slates. “Kendra’s answer: 950. Tara says 1300.”

He draws out the answer for greatest suspense. “And the immunity challenge winner guaranteed a one in three chance at a million dollars and the title of Ultimate Survivor is Kendra.” He follows up this announcement with the trivia that there are 800 active volcanoes in the world. Kendra quickly gets up and takes the necklace and puts it on.

Confessional Caption – Kendra – Interpreter
“Mon, I’m glad to have this. I still trust my girls but it’s so much easier to trust people when you are immune from the vote.” She laughs nervously. “I need to send a note thanking my senior English teacher for assigning me a research paper on volcanoes.”

Jeff addresses the Survivors. “Tribal council will be tomorrow night. See you then.” He turns and walks away leaving the castaways looking shocked.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“We’re sitting there on the beach thinking tribal council will be tonight and he says tomorrow night. What are we supposed to do between now and then? I’ll tell you what: scheming, lying, and backstabbing.”

The four castaways are still sitting on the log as if they have agreed that it is as good a place to wait as any. Tara walks over to a stand of bushes and starts wordlessly picking them.

White Hat Camp
The four remaining survivors are working to keep their camp going. All are working very quietly as if they have agreed to take the day off from talking and get their work done.

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionist
“No one said anything but I think we all decided on a day to just w-work. We’re all so tired that it’s hard to gather enough wood and catch fish and everything. We’re living on the rice and berries and even though no one wants to go home, we all know that being voted off means a good meal and b-bath.”

Robin fishes by himself. He shows the camera the bag which holds three large fish. “See these. I’m hoping the girls might be swayed by the promise of something to eat.” Then looks at the beach where the three girls are gathering berries and breaking up firewood. “Something tells me that’s not really likely though.”

Next the camera shows Tara cooking the large fish in the pan with some herbs she has apparently harvested. She serves everyone their share with rice and berries. They all eat silently.

Confessional Caption – Faith – Personal Trainer
“Eerie man,” Faith says as she looks around at the dark surrounding her. Apparently everyone else is already in the shelter while she tends the fire. She is poking it with a stick and gets up to put another log on. “This has been a weird day. T didn’t speak after the challenge and we all followed her lead. I’ve never heard of such a thing. I mean no one talked to anyone that I know of. I’m not used to it and it kind of hurt my head.”

White Hat Camp – Day 36
The sun rises over the camp and we see Kendra come out of the shelter first. She kicks at Faith with her toe and the dark-haired girl sits up suddenly, embarrassed to be caught snoozing. “****!” She curses as she sees that the fire has gone out. Robin and Tara come out of the shelter next both seeing that the fire has gone out.

Faith reaches behind her for the fire starting materials and looks at them before handing them to Tara. Tara takes them and then looks at Faith and Kendra the three girls share a look before bending down to the fire. Once they are bent down, Tara hands the flint to Kendra and cups her hands around the sparks. As before she closes her eyes and mumbles a prayer under her breath. As soon as the flames start licking up, Faith begins feeding the fire and Kendra joins her.

“Remember day two?” Faith asks as she looks at her alliance members.

“The f-firestarters.”

“The heart, mon.”

After commercial we see Robin again fishing. This time Kendra is helping him fish. They are doing well and the bag shows quite a few fish in it. He looks to the beach and then initiates a conversation. “The question is really who you want at the end with you.”

“I want the same people I wanted at the beginning.”

Next we see Robin approach Faith as she breaks up firewood. “Feels good to work today,” she says happily as she breaks up the wood.

“I had a good day fishing.”

“Good,” she says.

“What’s going to happen tonight?”

Faith crosses her arms over her chest. “You’re going to be voted off unless we can get someone else to turn. I’m not pulling a stone.”

“Tara?”

“She voted off Willow. You really think she’ll vote off Kendra to keep you?”

“Good point.” He nods but looks dejected.

“But…”

“Kendra? I already spoke to her.”

“Let me.” Faith hands him the remaining firewood and walks off.

“You don’t want Tara in the final two,” Robin calls after her.

“I know that better than you.”

Confessional Caption – Robin – High School Principal
“I think Faith’s probably pulling my chain. She claims he is trying to get Kendra to join us and vote off Tara but I just don’t know.” He smiles and looks at Tara.

Faith walks up to Kendra and the two start talking.

Moments later we see Robin approach Tara. “Tara,” he says to get her attention. Nonetheless, she startles as he walks up.

“R-robin.” She sees the man standing by her holding the water bucket.

“We should talk about Faith,” he says firmly.

Tara nods her head.

“I’m not worried about Kendra, but you or Faith are both dangerous in the final two.”

“H-h-how so?”

“You’re dangerous because of being such a good Survivalist and she’s dangerous because she’s run this game all along. Neither of them will pick you to go to the final two with them because they don’t want to lose to you at that point.” He points down the beach to where the two women are talking.

“You’d t-take me to the final two?”

“Over Faith,” Robin says, “definitely.”

“Over Kendra?”

“Probably.” As Tara notices Robin cuts his eyes to the side.

“You and I and Kendra in the final three? We’d need Kendra.”

“She’s in.”

Confessional Caption – Robin – High School Principal
“Ok, I’m desperate at this point. Of course, my bad luck would be if Tara and I vote against Faith and Faith and Kendra vote against Tara.” He chuckles. “If that was the worst thing that happened, I’d be ok with that.”

Tara approaches Kendra to talk and we don’t see what they are saying. Next we see Tara talking with Faith.

Confessional Caption – Tara – Medical Receptionist
“Everyone is playing a game out here. The most important thing is to make sure you’re not the one who g-gets caught in it.”

Tribal Council
Night is falling as the four Survivors walk to tribal council. Tara, Faith, and Robin all carry their bags in one hand and their torches in the other. They enter the area and take their seats. “And now, we’ll call in the jury.”

Mac, Xander, Joyce, Buffy, and Willow take their places. “Willow. Voted off at the last tribal council and now the balance of power shifts.” He unnecessarily does the math for those present. “Five jurors over there and four Survivors over here.” Like those jurors before her, Willow looks quite good. She wears a pair of jean shorts and tank top. Her hair is extra curly framing her face and she smiles at the remaining players, particularly Tara who blushes and looks away.

“Ok, the last few days have probably been pretty stressful. Faith, how has it been at camp?”

Faith answers immediately. “Well, J, everyone is very tired and hungry. We’ve been here 36 days and it really takes its toll. Yesterday we had a challenge in the morning rather than afternoon which caught us all off guard. Then today, game on all day.”

“So there was more time between the challenge and the tribal council,” Jeff says. “How did that affect the game?”

“Everyone has a plan, and there was extra time to play it.”

“So the deal making was fast and furious.” Jeff smiles at the prospect of hearing of deal making and breaking.

Robin says, “Actually, we had a day of quiet yesterday. It was actually a relief.”

“In the middle of a fight for a million dollars and you had a day of quiet? Who suggested that, Tara?”

“No-one really s-suggested it, but no one ever spoke first and then the day was over.”

“So yesterday was peaceful and quiet and then today the scheming begins?” Jeff asks.

“The scheming never ends,” Faith says, “it’s just quieter sometimes.” A shot of the jury shows Buffy, Joyce, and Mac nodding their heads. Willow doesn’t move as she is intently watching Tara across the fire.

“Kendra, when do you start thinking about who you would want in the final two?”

“Day three,” Kendra jokes. Everyone laughs.

“Tara, how do you decide how to vote tonight?”

“I’m voting for my game.” As she speaks she looks directly at the jury.

“Let’s go vote then.”

Kendra votes first followed by Robin, Faith, and Tara. We don’t see any of their votes. Jeff retrieves the votes and says, “I’ll tally the votes. The person voted off will be asked to leave the tribal council area immediately.” He pulls the first vote. “First vote: Tara.” Kendra looks displeased at the vote but neither Robin, Faith, nor Tara look surprised at it. A shot of the jury shows assorted looks of surprise and dismay from the jurors.

“Second vote, Robin.” Tara and Kendra both look cautiously relieved while Faith’s reaction is impassive. “Third vote, Robin.” He recaps. “That’s two votes Robin, one vote Tara.” He opens the last vote slowly. “And the 13th person voted off Survivor – Ash Island and sixth juror is Robin.”

Robin gives all three women hugs and then has his torch snuffed with the traditional “the tribe has spoken.”

“Well, it looks like this alliance is a strong one. Head back to camp.” Tara, Faith, and Kendra leave the council area. As she is walking through the bordering trees, we see Tara glance back at the jury receiving a quick wink from Willow.

Parting Words – Robin
As Robin speaks we see the replay of votes. Quite obviously all three girls voted against him while he voted against Tara. “Well, I played a good game but not as good as the three of you. You all deserve to be in the final three.”

We cut to a long set of commercials.

Re: Survivor - Ash Island

Okay...so now that we're down to the final 3, it's time for me to start playing the prediction game...cuz it's safer now...less chance of looking like a complete fool...of course, I do that anyway...on a daily basis...*shrug*.

Tara has to win immunity to be in the final 2...that's what I think. She's too strong a survivalist for either Faith or Kendra to want Tara in the final 2. Faith and Kendra each have a better chance for the $1 million against each other. So, if either Faith or Kendra win immunity, Tara's out. That's my prediction.

Really enjoyed the update, Debra. It was interesting to see the four of them fall into an agreed day of silence after the immunity challenge. And the next day full of scheming (that, in my opinion, wasn't really scheming), was nicely described. I had to feel sorry for Robin, though. I think he knew deep down that he wouldn't be able to break that alliance.

Nice visual image of Willow at the tribal council. Gotta say, I felt a little drool at the corner of my mouth. And I loved how she spent the entire time looking intently at Tara. So sweet.

Another great update, Debra. Looking forward to the final episodes...though I'll be sad to see this end.

I'm so happy this update was early, makes my day even better than it already is - public holiday (ours is July 1st), gf staying with me, it's stopped raining for a change, I have 3 computers to play with, and SAI update, yay!

Nice touch with the sumptuous food, gives them energy for the next few days I bet.

As soon as Kendra won the IC, I knew Robin's out. Even he knows that Tara won't vote Faith off, the alliance is that strong.
“Remember day two?” Faith asks as she looks at her alliance members.

“The f-firestarters.”

“The heart, mon.”

That sums it up so well. Simple yet stong.

Also nice touch, Willow with her curly season 5 hair, it's S5 hair isn't it?

Boy I really can't wait for the next part, my nails are almost chewed off with the anticipation. Let me do a little analysis, even though I know you'll just say good guess or well done watson you've proved you have a thinking cap.

If Faith wins the next IC, I predict she will take Kendra. Tara is too nice.

If Tara wins, she'll probably take Kendra too, with the same argument that Faith is too strong.

Now if Kendra wins, that's a little more challenging. I tossed a coin and it came out Faith, so I say she takes Faith. See? Very scientific.

Gonna continue enjoying my long weekend. Enjoy yours too.

Wow, how cool. I happened to be online and saw that there was an update. And early too! I'm not that surprised that Robin is out. F/K/T have been strong since the beginning. I can't imagine that Faith wants Tara with her in the final two.

Nice of Survivor to give them the feast stuff. Can't wait for the next update to see who makes the final two.

*bites lip* This is rediculous you know, me obsessing over this story and chewing on my nails because I don't know how they're all going to play the game. Faith, Kendra, & Tara...dun dun dun...this means now that all bets are off and it's just....and with the previous comment from Willow about Faith....DAH! There are only so many combinations and I just...*sighs* I don't even like reality TV!

But yay for this update and dark those extended commercial breaks!

A great update and all went according to plan! I would have been crushed if the girls' alliance had faltered after Tara stuck to it to vote off Willow. But I had faith in them.

You know, my next guess is - I think that if there is another immunity challenge that Tara will win that one and then have to pick between taking Faith and Kendra to the final two. If she's smart it will be Kendra. But it would be just like Tara to pick Faith because she played a good game and "deserves it."

I'm guessing that the next immunity challenge is going to be building a fire, because they used that challenge twice on Survivor Palau, and there has been quite a bit of Tara-fire-making in this season already.

However, I'm not sure. I was rereading some of the earlier updates and in one of the cryptic conversations between Willow and Tara in the Ohio restaurant I remember Willow asking Tara "If you knew then what you know now would you vote Faith off" of something like that. Of course, that could mean anything - it could mean that Faith wins immunity and votes Tara off with Kendra, or it could mean that Tara wins immunity and is up against Faith in the final two.

Notice no one thinks that Kendra wins immunity! Heh. Tha'ts probably what will happen since we're all so certain of ourselves.

The comments, or at least my comments, seem to be in a pattern of half praise for the writing and half guessing what will happen next. Tee hee.

By the way, JustSkipIt, I don't think I've mentioned how glad I am that you had Tara living in a small town in Ohio because I grew up in a small town in Ohio and lived there my whole life (until I went to college)! I looooooove Ohio and my wife and I are heading there this weekend to visit my mom for the 4th, and my sister and her husband and coming too from San Francisco. We'll drive right by Reynoldsburg on the way home (and then continue on for 2 more hours).

(Also Reynoldsburg is a scant 13 miles from Kirkersville, site of the Ohio Lesbian Festival - the Michigyn of the Buckeye State!)

I think it's great that there's going to be an all-girl Final Three...but it's going to be really interesting to see how the voting is done now that the three left are the three that have been in an alliance all along. Can't wait for more!

:wave there, hope everyone in your house is fine.
This time I'm not so late.
Well, I gotta say I'm happy Robin's out :bounce , the guy was nice and helped with the food and all, but I didn't want to see him in the final two.
Tara-Faith-Kendra alliance is very strong, but now they are at the point of "it's you or me". I hope Tara wins immunity next challenge, and Kendra is voted off, but that will be up to you, the writer of this excellent piece.
Willow couldn't say hi, but hey her eyes told Tara everything. :clap
Really looking forward for the final updates, and sad because this story is getting to the end.
I started the kitten race, it's really good.
Take care and have a fun holiday weekend.

Yay! The update was posted early. I love early updates. I'm going out of town this weekend.....so this early update is much appreciated.

WATSON Wrote:

I always preferred Willow's straight-straight hair. I don't think that made sense, so let me clarify as best as I can. It was shown in most mid-to-late season 6 episodes especially in the season 6 episode in which Willow and Xander are talking on their way to the Magic Box about Xander being sore after dancing the 'Funky Monkey'. [Honestly I know what run-on sentences are. They're bad, I know :flirt ]
Then Willow sees Tara coming out of the Magic Box and asks Willow to tell Buffy that she stopped by and needs to talk to her.

Moving on......

Fantastic update! It's so Willow to be staring at Tara the whole time at Tribal Council and for Tara to be blushing like that.........how cute!

Can't wait for the next update........I'll be willing to cancel my 4th of July weekend vacation if you post soon!

Let me know......k? :flirt

P.S. This is totally unrelated but: how old is the cute guy in your avitar?

Hey Debra!

Great update. And as expected, Robin is out.

Now, the next Challenge is gonna be really interesting.

Uhm I'm not sure, but I think you made a little mistake:

The survivors all write before showing their slates. “Tara writes Goddess of Fire. Kendra says Goddess of Fire/Volcanoes. Faith says Saint of Ash Island. Robin writes ‘Soccer player?’” Everyone laughs good naturedly at Robin’s answer. “Tara and Faith both earn another point so they lead at four each. Faith still at two and Robin has one.”

Isn't it Kendra who made a point and not Faith? Although you summed the points up correctly *g*

I liked this scene very much. It sort of closes the circle.
But I don't understand.. what is MON supposed to mean???

Carleen – Good land claiming. You know that the feedback means more if it actually says something about the story right? Snark.

Ok, now you added real feedback.

Now you’re playing predictions? That’s pretty safe. Good guesses on Tara’s chances of making F2. Glad you liked the silence then scheming (not so much). Drool on Willow huh? I must say she looked good in my head but I rarely drool about such things. Thanks so much.

I'm so happy this update was early, makes my day even better than it already is - public holiday (ours is July 1st),
Ok, that confused me and no offense to the English and variations thereof reading but you have a holiday because we said to screw yourselves 229 years ago on July 4?

Anyway, glad to make your day. I’m looking forward to the long weekend but it’s kind of just days to work at home. I have three big deadlines coming up and will be out of the office most of next week while Rachel works a long hour week. But at least our neighbors will shoot off fireworks all night. Seriously, I love July 4th. It’s my second favorite holiday because: summer, hot, fireworks, good food, beer, friends, parties. Actually when I was 20, my friend and I took her brother to shoot off fireworks in a friend’s yard. My hand caught on fire which was bad. But she kissed it and made it better… And here I am 17 years later. Still best friends and we’ve spent many of the last July 4ths together no matter where we are.

Nice touch with the sumptuous food, gives them energy for the next few days I bet.
Kind of stolen from Palau but they needed it.

I agree that Robin was toast. He never had a shot unless he won every IC. The three were just too strong.

Also nice touch, Willow with her curly season 5 hair, it's S5 hair isn't it?
Damn right! I love that hair. My favorite by far.

Good guesses and boy am I quote crazy today. I think Kendra’s screwed no matter what. If I were her and I won, I’d take Faith and really press the “do you want to reward her being like that?”

Thanks always.

Graceland – Hey! You’re back. Yeah you can catch an update sometimes but I always post in the update thread. I think everyone expected Robin out if he lost immunity. No, Faith wouldn’t want Tara sitting next to her. I think that Watson did a pretty good job with her analysis above. Thanks so much.

AnirtakEnigma – Ok, that’s two readers chewing their nails. I feel like I should do a PSA on it. I’m actually working on quitting chewing my nails and cuticles so please everyone do the same. Don’t you know you should just drink or smoke. Wait a minute, that’s not it. Yoga & meditation. Long walks. Deep breathing…

this means now that all bets are off
That’s exactly how it works at this point. The person who wins the next IC gets to choose her competitor in the F2. Way cool and intense.

dark those extended commercial breaks!
Lol!

cperrins78 – Thanks. The next update will be at least a few more days if not a week. You are so very welcome.

SallyMcFine – Good point about if the alliance had failed after they even voted off Willow. That would definitely have sucked and hard to believe that Willow wouldn’t have been mad at Tara for it.

Of course I say: Good guesses

Notice no one thinks that Kendra wins immunity! Heh. Tha'ts probably what will happen since we're all so certain of ourselves.
I can’t remember who but someone did think that will happen.

Lol about Ohio. I’ve driven through because we used to live in Pennsylvania. I looked up Reynoldsville on the web. I was looking for a small town near the university and it kind of promoted itself as very “middle-America.” Ooo the Ohio Lesbian Festival? That’s got to be good. Have a great weekend.

stillrunning – Glad you like the all-girl F3.
but it's going to be really interesting to see how the voting is done now that the three left are the three that have been in an alliance all along.
It changes a little in the last TC. Basically the person who wins Immunity gets to pick their F2 competitor and vote off the other person. That person should vote off the person they think has the best chance to win although sometimes they keep the person they’ve had an alliance with. In this case, they’ve all had an alliance all along so it’s not so relevant.

Thanks.

dragonfly – Hey and welcome again. Very fine. Nope, you’re right on time. Maybe even early. I agree about being happy to see Robin go. Too personalityless (I made up that word myself). Yeah the F3 is a pretty harsh situation. Willow’s definitely communicating with her Love. Glad you liked KR. You too.

Irene73 – Hola back.
So any good plans for the Fourth Deb? I love 4th of July. It's right up there with Halloween...my two favorite holidays.
For me it’s Thanksgiving and the 4th. We’re going to a party tomorrow and other than that hanging out. I need to work a lot and Rachel is planning to enjoy the weekend off.

Yeah, they did a pretty good job as an alliance. I’d say they all did their jobs very well. Really? Volcanoes? For me they fall under the science category so my mind kind of glazes over but I’m glad you found it interesting. Lol about Pele.

Yeah, Tara will definitely feel better after getting nothing but wonderful looks from Willow across the fire. She knows the redhead doesn’t have lingering bad feelings. Thanks so much and have a great weekend.

Tonto – Very welcome. Really? The straight hair? My least favorite is season 7 but six is pretty close. Those two are adorable I’d say. Enjoy your 4th!

P.S. This is totally unrelated but: how old is the cute guy in your avitar?
Ashvatar! :rofl I think in that pic he is about 15 months old. I have a new one ready but I’m waiting to hear back from the friend who hosts them for me. She maybe out of town or something. It’s very cute too.

Insanity – Thanks so much. Yeah, I don’t think Robin’s exit was a huge surprise to most people. Thanks for the catch. Carleen PM’d me right away and I thought I fixed it but apparently not. Now I think it’s better. Thanks

Thanks about the fire circle.
But I don't understand.. what is MON supposed to mean???
Like Kendra always talked because she was from Jamaica although here she’s American and just says it out of habit. Thanks a lot.

Sorry, I have no fancy-schmancy original emoticons like Car and watson. How 'bout a lovely fleur: :flower . Even though I felt like this vote was going to go that way, I was still impressed at how you ratcheted up the tension. I really worried that Tara was going to be done for a moment there. watson already quoted the simple interaction in which the alliance confirmed their bond, which was so subtle I didn't catch it the first time (hence my needless worrying over Tara). Very interesting that Kendra and Tara both were relieved after that second vote for Robin....Faith's handwriting, I presume? So they were both doubting her, but not willing to turn on her...very admirable, and I think they're both screwed unless the two of them get rid of her next (which I think is unlikely...my pretend money is on Faith to win at this point). Finally, I love Willow's wink at the end...such a nice gesture to let Tara know there's no hard feelings. Love it!

The last few updates have been really good.

The interviews with Willow were interesting. She was very good at fielding the sneaky questions trying to find out what happened in later episodes. Though I guess that since she runs her own company she's probably used to PR and handling interviews.

One thing that confused me a little about her interviews is how certain she was that Tara did the right thing by staying true to her alliance and voting her off. I can understand her supporting Tara but Willow was part of an alliance herself so isn't her assertion that Tara was right to remain loyal to her alliance contradictory with the fact that Willow didn't?

The producers certainly seemed to be intent on increasing the tension in the last episode, what with giving them extra scheming and backstabing time. Though even with that it seemed likely that Robin would be the one heading to sequesterville.

I don't know exactly who the final two will be but I think Kendra will be one of them. Since even if she doesn't win immunity I think that Tara or Faith would rather be competing against her than the other.

:bigwave Sorry I've been naughty with the lack of fb AGAIN! :ashamed Willow's interviews were really good, very interesting. I love that she told them about Tara and Ariel being important to her. :flower Are Regis and Kelly the older guy and the blonde women? I only ask cos we don't have them in the U.K! The Island update was weird without Willow. I'm glad Tara is still in it though. I really hope she wins, I think she deserves it. I look forward to the next installment! Hannah.

Long commercial break? No kidding! :lol

I have a lot of respect for Faith, Kendra and Tara - they made their plan early in the game and they stuck to it, against all comers. A bit of luck for Kendra, having all the volcano knowledge on hand, but I don't think she'd have been the one to go anyway. She's stayed in Faith's shadow too long - I think the jury would overlook her in favour of Faith, if it comes down to the two of them, so no-one would want to ditch her now.

Willow sounded very cute :x And what with the staring and so on, I don't think either Faith or Kendra would think that she's holding a grudge against Tara - they must both know that Tara's got at least one confirmed vote on the jury, if they find themselves up against her.

So when we get back from commercials, let's see: Kendra isn't going to win, I don't think the jury would favour her over Faith or Tara - she hasn't made mistakes, but I just don't think she's earned the votes. So if either of them find themselves up against her in the final two, they've got it. Faith and Tara head-on, that's interesting. Tara's shown herself to be a capable survivor, a level-headed team player, and a clever strategist. I think Faith has the edge though, just for her sheer ballsiness of putting herself in the I'm A Dangerous Opponent crosshairs from nearly day one, and backing herself to survive any effort to unseat her. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's a 4-3 vote though.

(And a stubborn little part of me's still waving that 'Tara Wins!' flag.)

One reason being on vacation sucks... I was away from stories like these all week! And no chance to feedback till now!
But then again... Beautiful Cancun (area).. really can't beat it ;)

I've gotta agree with those who've said if Tara doesn't win immunity she's gotta be outta there because she's waay too liked by every member of that jury and the other would have NO chance of winning against her. Taking her would be.. suicidal against winning the million. So yes, Tara.. win that IC dammit!

The Willow S5 hair is my favorite too. Adorable. And the not being able to look away from Tara and the cute wink at the end. Heart is melting haha

I love this and I can't wait for the "finale"! :D

Cam – Don’t’ worry about the lack of emoticons… Gee I think I had something more interesting to say but now I’ve forgotten what. Thanks about the tension. I must admit that I kind of credit/blame that on Survivor. They always do that, showing snippets of conversation even through everyone in the world knows how the vote will go. So does that mean that if you win the bet, you will win pretend money? And you can spend it on pretend rent or food or movies or whatever. (I heard that War of the Worlds is good but scary and I personally recommend Mr & Mrs Smith). Glad you liked the wink. Thanks.

Watson – Makes a lot more sense for HK to have a holiday than England. Although… didn’t HK achieve independence just recently? Seems vaguely familiar but since I’m not much on current events or history…

Justin – Thanks. I’m glad you’ve liked them. I think that you are right about the PR and her business and also that she’s just a person who has learned to bullshit. She said earlier something about her mother being good at blowing off people and I think that if you grow up with someone with good communication skills, you pick them up.

I think it’s a difference of water-under the bridge vs. hindsight. I also don’t know that Willow’s alliance would have helped her by the time Buffy came over because they were outnumbered. But Tara’s alliance still had the numbers and the power.

I agree that Robin’s departure was quite foregone. Good guesses on Kendra in the F2.

willlovestara – Don’t worry about the lack of fb. Glad you liked the interviews. Yes, Tara and Ariel are her most important thing in life. I guess that’s Regis and Kelly. It occurs to me that I should have sent her on Ellen because she would have danced. Yeah, I agree that the Island was a bit strange with all game and no romance. At least there were the looks across the fire at tribal. Thanks.

Artemis – Very long… I agree that Kendra wouldn’t have gone. She’s probably the least likely winner at this point. Against Robin, he would have had the stronger and more unlikely card; against Faith she’s “less of”; and, against Tara, she’s less everything.

Definitely no grudge from Willow. I think it’s totally safe to assume that Willow’s vote would go to Tara if she makes the F2. Good guesses.

VixenyTarasHot – Hey there again. Wow, vacation in Cancun—how awesome. We’re going to Port Aransas next month for a week and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope Asher loves the beach because both his mamas do. He actually sleeps with waves on every night.

Good guesses on Tara’s chances at F2. Glad you like the Willow look. Thanks.

Ooooh, you SHOULD have sent her on Ellen! Ellen DeGeneres is my goddess :bow

I can just see it...

E: So, Willow. Must have sucked getting voted off. Would have been fun to have you and Tara in the final two together.
W: Yes... but we already decided to wait.
E: Smart move. Wanna dance?

XD... okay, so it probably wouldn't be *exactly* like that... but still. Ellen rocks. I'm freakin' in lust with her show. That and my new venus razor... mmm, smooth...

Count me among those who saw ' who is Pele?' and said, "Soccer player, hey I know stuff." Although, I did feel the question was kinda random given the volcano-ness of the quiz before that. Then I saw Tara's answer and was like, "Yeah, that makes more sense."

We're getting really close now. I'm so excited.

AAAHH!! I missed the update for like two whole days!!! Grar. :-D
Not that I'm complaining about the quickness of the updates, no, I am a definate fan of the updatey-quickness. :applause
(I don't know if it was me or the Willow in my head who wrote that last sentance).

As she is walking through the bordering trees, we see Tara glance back at the jury receiving a quick wink from Willow.

Oh man, I thought they were gonna make out right there or something. :wtkiss hehe. But then I realized that probably wouldn't have been allowed. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with whoever said that Tara must win the immunity challenge to get into the final 2. Kendra and Faith are both too smart to take her.

Go Tara! :applause

Debra,

What a great update. It took me so long to read it because I have been off-line while I went to Chicago because I am moving there in Aug. I got back yesterday and am trying to wade through all the updates and its a little overwhelming!

I of course read this first because it was an early update!! And, it was great. I love that the alliance stayed true to the end. I also think this was the first episode that Kendra really talks very much in. I so totally can't wait for the final updates.

I was wondering too if having a standing weekly deadline helps you? I know school days wasn't quite on a schedule and by the end it was infrequent and you mentioned that usually by the end you are over it. Are you over this one or is it so different from others that its still interesting? It definately doesn't read as if you were over it.

Naeryn – Very funny interchange. Ellen is pretty funny on her show. I haven’t seen it in a long time because I don’t work from home any more (I used to do so one day a week). Also, we don’t turn on the TV very often so Asher doesn’t get to like it. But she’s great. Venus razor. Well done.

the hero factor – Glad you’re happy about Tara making it this far. She’s done very well I’d say. :rofl about Pele. Thanks.

watersong84 – Sorry about missing. I know I did a total misdirect on the time but I thought I would want more time and then I didn’t. Yes, that last line sounded very much like Willow in someone’s head. Lol about them making out. Definitely not allowed. Good guesses on F2 and Tara’s chances.

cooper – Hey there.
I have been off-line while I went to Chicago because I am moving there in Aug.
Seems to me that there are quite a few kittens waiting for you. Carleen, Mary?, maybe Cam all live there I think. Actually Rachel heard a thing on NPR about how Gay Square Dancing is big there and we were pretty concerned. Apparently the gay community is adding a little spice and flair to the tradition but it’s still square dancing right? My point being: square dancing??? Good luck there.

I know what you mean about the updates. When I go on vacation, it’s always something to catch up with all the stories I’m following. Glad you were happy about the strong alliance. Yeah, Kendra hasn’t had much to say.

Thanks so much for your words. I don’t know that the weekly deadline helps but it adds some structure. Most of the time it’s that there is a day that is most convenient for me to post. It used to be Wednesday because I worked from home that day. Now it’s whenever I have the time to post. But actually my interest in this story has lasted throughout the writing which is pretty nice. I think it’s because of the structure of the narrative which allows me to kind of write two stories at once. Good question.

Okay, I’ve been thinking about the time Willow and Tara spent in the woods before Willow was voted off, and everything since then, and now I have a wacky notion that Willow’s head was in the game all along. She probably worked out the game itself as one giant puzzle and, knowing her odds of breaking the alliance and making the final three were slim, developed a strategy to help Tara reach the final two and possibly even bring home the grand prize. Sooo.. Tara is actually playing Willow’s ‘game plan for Tara’ which means she has the best possible chance to win it all. On the other hand.. Tara is also the brainy type and more than capable of devising her own strategy and I think she is more determined to win than either Faith or Kendra suspects so.. Yup. I’ve spent way too much time thinking about this. I want Tara to win. Can you tell? :D Kudos to Robin for playing an excellent game and being a gracious loser after getting voted off. Can’t wait to see Ariel’s reaction when she finds out Tara is in the final three! Great update, Thanks!
