Trouble posting (getting time-out errors)

Postby grimlock72 » Sat Apr 30, 2005 3:38 pm

Hi,

I am consistently getting errors when posting replies larger than say 4 lines or so (and I write a lot of largish replies:)). The error appears to be time-out on the submit of a reply/post using http://thekittenboard.com/board/posting.php. Something about the server having closed the connection.

Annoying thing is that the post IS usually posted anywayz, so if you do it again you'll end up having to delete duplicates :(

Using Opera 8 over here, anybody got similair problems?

ETA not so consitently appearantly, this post went through in one go... odd... maybe only Pens has this problem?

I've had the same problem using IE and Firefox.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with browser issues, specific forums, or post size. This is something all users across the board are experiencing at certain times. We're definitely aware of it (it's happening to us, too) and doing what we can to get to the bottom of it.

I know it's bothersome. But for now, please just make use of that delete feature when your posts go through multiple times.

awww and there was me blaming my computer!

I'll apologise to my beloved comp and hope you can get the time-out situation sorted. It's so early on in the transition for things to start being naughty.

xXx good luck with that :)

I know I could have just edited that one up there ^ but I posted that ages ago, and this is about the same thing, but a bit different.

Is anybody else still getting time-out errors? It's still happening to me but it's got worse, now every time I post I time out and I have to check to see if I double posted, it even times out when I'm going from place to place, like Different coloured pens to the kitten or something and then I press the back button and it times out so I have to start back at the main page.

I was just wondering if you guys had found a reason for this yet?

I'm gunna go through all that what I just explained up there when I press 'submit' lol... here I go...

These are server issues with our host and it's definitely something we're looking to get resolved as soon as possible.

Hello Kittens-

I'm having the same issue with my old Mac using Safari and 10.2.8 with a Linksys cable modem.

Doesn't update like a post should either.

To the kind moderators

My number of post seemed to be not increasing, at the moment I have already posted a total of 16, but in my profile it's only 9. Whenever I'm posting an update to my story it always comes in double, so i have delete to the other one, and then the number of post would decrease. Hope anyone could explain it to me how I could post with out getting another one. Coz I really don't wanna disturbed all the wonderful moderators of Pens again, if ever I'm gonna encounter the same problem again.

Thank you so much! :)

Hey, ambercissism. The best thing to do when you are trying to post something and it doesn't look like it's going through, is to just wait a few minutes and then check the thread by refreshing. Most of the time, the post actually did go through. Waiting a few minutes might keep you from having to delete a post, which will always decrease your post count.

Most of the time, waiting works for me. But it doesn't always, so there may still be times when you'll have to delete a post. But hopefully, if you wait, you won't have to delete so many.

TO THE NICE MODERATORS

I seemed to be on this thread again, :-D and I'm ashamed of myself for repeating the same mistakes :ashamed . But I've posted double again on my latest update. I've tried doing your advice maudmac, but I always received errors. I'd be grateful if anybody from the moderators can fix my mess again. I really am sorry. And could you PLEASE :pray fix the number of my post again. THANKS!

I deleted the duplicate post and added a few to your post count. If it's supposed to be a different number then you need to let us know.

I've been timing out too, but what I was doing seems to go through anyway. I just open another window and check there to see if the action completed.

Any word on the mystery of the disappearing Fic Challenge?

There was an accident of unfamiliarity with the board. In the process of moving the thread we created a shadow topic, when attempting to delete the shadow topic, the whole topic unfortunately disappeared. After looking through help files, it's unlikely that we will be able to restore it :( I really regret any loss here, anyone who knows us knows we've moved boards 3 times and have tried each time to preserve each thread because that means so much to us. We always take great care when removing posts and create backups just in case. We didn't really expect that the shadow removal would delete the thread. The issue has now been explored thoroughly and we can assure that it won't happen again.

I have a backup that's 1 week old, but I can't justify losing a week's worth of posts to restore that particular backup and risking something going wrong there.

We'll continue to look for a way to retrieve this but we'd appreciate any ideas you might have, such as author back ups etc.

Thanks for trying, Xita....and for continuing to try.

I think I might be able to get access to the fics themselves...though not the feedback and replies. Would you be able to "restore" the thread by posting the initial challenge post (which I think I have) and then the individual fics?

Additionally, what about those of us who lost post counts because of it? For some it was only 1 or 2...but for a few of us it was more in the range of 10 - 15. Any help there?

Again, thanks.

Carleen

P.S. Sorry for posting my question in this thread...I thought I was posting in the "Issues" thread...I guess I clicked on the wrong button. My bad.

Yeah, feel free to make a new thread for it. Again, I feel really bad about it. And the posts, you and anyone else involved can post in the post count thread and we'll fix it.

Willowlover...you just posted.

You either post by hitting "reply" in a particular thread. Or "New Topic" in a particular forum. Technically, you've posted 23 times.
