Finding focussed time: A Write-In

Postby raspberryhat » Sat Aug 06, 2005 10:50 am

All,

I want to suggest an idea. It's simple enough. I don't know what you might think, but here it is...A group of Kittens gather for a day, in a relaxing environment where it's easy to sit with laptop/writing tool of choice, coffee/beverage of choice, headphones/emotional stimulant of choice and write. Writers can have the chance to discuss story difficulties or ideas with each other, develop character insight, ask questions and generally help fuel their work.

Why?

For some, finding focussed time and the right environment in which to write can be difficult.

Also, imagine the energy of a whole group of kittens all writing their work together.

Imagine the end results of a focussed day of writing.

No obligations ever, but an end of day 'gallery' of the day's work could be very interesting.

For me? I just like the idea of seeing how much I can do in an intense day of writing. Also love the idea of being able to have some breakouts to discuss stories, writing issues etc. Maybe a couple of short workshops for those who might want? Just a thought.

Where?

Somewhere that's easy to reach for the majority of those interested. I know...before you say "The Internet", I realise geographical spread could be an issue. It would make sense to find out who'd be interested and see if a spot existed roughly equidistant from all that could be easily accessed.

How would it work?

Well there'd have to be some simple ground rules to allow people the peace they want to write but also allow others to discuss. Would perhaps need to set up things in a way that meant people could relax with their work. Would need to be quiet and focussed. I am sure you'll point out what would be needed to make it work. Where there's a will there's a way.

What do you think?
There's nothing very merry 'bout going round and round.

I was thinking this was a great idea but then I realised that you were talking about meeting physically. On the one hand that's better than just talking over the net but on the other the point which is equidistant between me and most kittens is in the middle of the atlantic. I'm not sure how good internet connectiivity is there, plus there's a distinct lack of hot beverages.

So this sounds like a great idea, but porbably not one I'd be able to take part in.

Hey, ras, I really like this idea. I've gotten quite a bit hashed out with my non-W/T fic because I meet with a friend once a week to write and brainstorm. I would urge any Kittens that are in close proximity to one another to give this a try. Really terrific ideas and fic can come from it.
