GG,

I agree, I just posted that in the Space Exploration thread on the Kitten.

Here is the CNN story, http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/10/0 ... n=cnn_tech

That would be very cool. Of course, you can buy a star and name it.

One year for mothers day my son and I bought one for my wife, it is named after her and everything.

Having these planets named after Xena and Gabs gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "heavenly bodies."

And: I wonder if they spend their time taking meteor showers together and avoiding asteroid "Joxer."

ETA: Vote in the CNN poll to keep the planet's name Xena

In german TV, Xena is still on. They are showing an episode every Saturday around noon. The only problem is, whenever I have the chance to watch it (at this very inconvenient time...) it's one of those episodes, that you really don't need to see necessarily..... plus, of course, I'd have to watch it in german .... which I really cannot recommend

That's why I own all seasons on DVD - so I can watch what I want when I want it..... with the original tone, of course. :-D

From TV Guide...

Lucy Lawless: From Xena to Katrina
by Danny Spiegel

Lucy Lawless really should go on Fear Factor. The former Xena: Warrior Princess star had to fight off a swarm of gonzo grasshoppers earlier this year in the CBS TV-movie Locusts, and now in the sequel, the imaginatively titled Vampire Bats (Sunday at 9 pm/ET), she's battling a horde of... well, you get the idea. But she also weathered far more real storms this year, as you'll see in TVGuide.com's interview with the Kiwi.

TVGuide.com: Vampire bats, locusts — if you had to be attacked by either, which would you prefer?
Lucy Lawless: Ooh, I'm going to have to go with the locusts, I'm afraid. Hang on... I'm trying to think which is a quicker death. There's no way out with either of them?

TVGuide.com: No. Sorry.
Lawless: That is a lousy choice. Um, OK, I'm going to go with bats then, because they're mammals at least.

TVGuide.com: Now let's say we were to add to this mix rabid Xena fans, as in literally rabid.
Lawless: [Laughs] Bats! I'm stickin' with the bats!

TVGuide.com: Would you be willing to do a TV-movie called...
Lawless: "Rabid Xena Fans"? That's the next sequel!

TVGuide.com: That's better than what I was going to say. But would you be willing to do one called "Giant Attack Rats That Talk"?
Lawless: "Talk"? What's the "talking" thing about?

TVGuide.com: I figured giant rats weren't enough; it'd be cool if they had advanced intelligence as well, so they could actually plan something as opposed to just mindlessly attacking villagers and such.
Lawless: Like, "We're going to get the cheese! We're going to get the cheese!" [Laughs] Um, I don't think I'm available for that movie, sadly. I'd have to give that [a pass].

TVGuide.com: OK. So who would win in a fight, Xena or Alias' Sydney Bristow?
Lawless: Ooh, I'm going to have to go with Xena. Well, hang on, Sydney Bristow's got guns.

TVGuide.com: Well, she resorts to guns.
Lawless: Well, ha-ha, Xena's got her own planet. [Recently, a newly discovered "10th planet" was nicknamed "Xena."] Is there a planet called "Sydney Bristow"? I don't think so. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Xena vs. Wonder Woman?
Lawless: Oh, I think Xena would win.

TVGuide.com: You realize that Wonder Woman has superstrength, right?
Lawless: And an invisible airplane. But she is wholly good-guy, whereas Xena will pull every low trick in the book, as would Sydney Bristow.

TVGuide.com: Finally, how about Xena vs. Geena Davis with the bow and arrow that she used when she tried out for the Olympics?
Lawless: And she's president [on ABC's Commander in Chief]! That might just beat having a planet. [Laughs] But she didn't get into the Olympics. See, Xena would've gotten into the Olympics. And she has her own planet. Hands down, Xena wins. Sydney Bristow's the only one I'm concerned about.

TVGuide.com: You shot Vampire Bats in New Orleans right before Hurricane Katrina hit. How did you evacuate the area?
Lawless: I [drove] with one of the producers. It was just the two of us as we inched out of town, going about 3 mph, with hundreds of thousands of other people. And the weather was coming.... I have never seen clouds with that ominous quality before.

TVGuide.com: How long were you in the car?
Lawless: Nine and a half hours. We went west to Baton Rouge — and we were lucky to get to Baton Rouge.

TVGuide.com: Where did you stay?
Lawless: We were put up by strangers, friends of friends of friends. A woman who had rented a house as a location [for the movie] knew somebody who knew somebody who was taking people in. We were the last people in the door. They had 40 people in their bed-and-breakfast and their personal house. This is the South — they will open their doors, their homes, their whatever to you.

TVGuide.com: When did you leave the area?
Lawless: We finally left that Wednesday [after Katrina hit]. We didn't even know what day it was — time just becomes a big ol' blur. It was very peculiar to leave there and not be among people who had had a common experience. So I bet you these journalists who have been there will find it very hard adjusting, like being a war correspondent or a soldier.

TVGuide.com: How much of Vampire Bats was left to be completed at that point?
Lawless: One week [of shooting]. So we went home for a few days and then picked up that last week in Nova Scotia, of all places.

TVGuide.com: How much of what we'll see on camera is now gone?
Lawless: All of it. I've seen photos of the locations where we were. All gone. Chris Morgan, a producer who has a house in New Orleans, went back and sent me photos [and the area] is just completely unrecognizable. We have some of the last filmed footage of New Orleans as it was.

TVGuide.com: It would have to be, considering you were filming right up until the hurricane.
Lawless: Yup.... You're making me emotional now. There were some scenes that were supposed to be shot in the above-ground cemetery there, and I lived right by one for a time, and that makes me really sad. I mean, that seems bizarre because the people there are already dead, you know, but there's something very poignant and horrid about that. It's such a symbol of New Orleans, I think that's what it is.

TVGuide.com: It sounds like you really became attached to the area during your short time there.
Lawless: The humanity and the kindness of the people there was really astonishing. The great culture of food and music.... There's just a richness of life down there. And that's why I was prepared to move there.

TVGuide.com: Were you really?
Lawless: Yeah. I would move there in a heartbeat. It really suited me, down to the ground.

Lucy is hilarious. I love it when actors don't try to distance themselves from the campy characters they've played in the past. Of course, Lucy knows the value of her fan base and just seems like an all around fun-loving nice person. Her interviews just crack me up, totally.

She does seem to be very good sport despite the -lets say- shallow questions in the first half of this interview, at least she made it a worthwhile read thanks to her humerous replies.

Edited to add my thud at those pictures. I swear I would hardly have recognized her. She looks stunning.

And Renee is the same way. A few weeks ago (just ahead of Hurricane Wilma, and in Florida), ROC attended "BardCon". There, for the . . . pleasure of hundreds of screaming dykes, Renee read excerpts of some of the most romantic . . . and raunchiest "UberXena" fanfic out there (in this one "Plot, What Plot"-type story, I'm told she made it as far as describing UberG's "shaved pubis" and then completely lost it )

Sigh: so wish I had been there . . .

GG "Vampire Bats" was admittedly pretty lame. Lucy looked great, of course. She just needs to find a short, blonde, green-eyed . . . and FEMALE sidekick for these flicks! Out

Y'all still watching XWP on Oxygen? 8AM M-F, and 1-3AM (early) Thursday! Keep the love alive, y'all! And send Universal another "We want an XWP movie!" message

After listening to Renee on the DVDs I had thought she wasn't really into the subtext the way Lucy was. I'm glad I was wrong.

I'm watching the docs on the 10th Anniversary DVDs at the moment and liked the interview with Zoe Bell, Xena stuntwoman. Her reaction to one of the Producers when he told her Lucy's stand-in had quit was priceless: "Man, you're f*cked!" :lol Then they offered her the job.

I'm not really a BIG fan of Xena. But I do like her and Gabrielle (who doesn't?!). Anyway, I was just wondering if there's anyone who could tell me, which season was the best? When I say best, I mean much with "Xena-Gabrielle goodness" :-D coz I was surfing the Amazon (not the jungle :-D ), and saw that most of Xena DVDs are 50% off!!!! :bounce So, I just thought of buying some. Thanks!

Which season was "the best"? Oh honey, how much time you got? :eyebrow

The online-rating site "Rate-a-Xena" which started . . . I'd guess maybe the second season, and ran till well past the end of the show w/ FIN consistently showed Season Two as the highest vote-getter (then again, the number were skewed by all the people who came to the show during the second season---when it got its highest ratings & "buzz"---so that may not be reliable).

Probably the season w/ the highest critical acclaim was Season Three (w/ the ambitious "Rift Arc", including its conclusion w/ the ground-breaking musical The Bitter Suite).

Certainly every season has its devotees . . .

But for my money, I'm going w/ the safe choice: Season Six, the final season. For someone who's sort of familiar w/ the show, ambercissism, I'm just going to say that's there's lots of X&G goodness. The first nine episodes constitute, essentially, 3 trios: the "Coming Home" three-parter (including the "Heart of Darkness Dance"), the "Gabrielle and Violence" trilogy (inc. G's & X's dances in Gurkhan, Missy Good's second script w/ Legacy, X & feverish G in The Abyss), and "the Norse Arc" (the TOTAL MAINTEXT of The Ring, The Kiss and the AWESOME conclusion of Return of the Valkyries). And that's BEFORE you get to the "Most Favorite Ep Ever" (by the recent "10th anniversary DVD poll"), When Fates Collide, and the romantic comedy Many Happy Returns.

Sigh: I'm making myself fall in love All Over Again... :x

GG That's just one person's---admittedly a fanatic Xenite Hardcore Nutball's---opinion. Out

Gotta go check out these Amazon bargains myself...

By the way, I was talking about Amazon uk. So, I'm not sure if it's on sale at Amazon (US) too.

Well, thanks for the info again, really appreciate it . I better buy those DVDs now!

In any case, good luck with finding what you want. Personally, I can't pick a favorite season. Favorite episodes, yes...favorite season, not so much.

Happy shopping!

I'd go with season six too. It tends to be scenes rather than complete episodes that stand out for me, especially emotional and subtexty scenes, and season six is packed with them!

Oh, and I'm sure this is a very minor point :eyebrow , but the picture quality on season six is a big improvement on previous seasons and Lucy and Renee look amazing. :-D

Hmmm, it says they want it but not if they're actually going to get it.

I work at the Museum of New Zealand which owns both the original Xena costume and Gabrielle's season six costume, I haven't seen any loan agreements come through from the Smithsonian yet. I'll let you know if I do. I certainly would support the costume going overseas as the more fans that can come and see it the better! It's not on display at the moment, its all boxed up. I can't see any reason why we wouldn't loan it anyways.
There may be other costumes though, that I'm not sure about...

Hi Alcy!
So, you work at the Museum of NZ! Tell me, do they have any stuff from the "Lord of the Rings"?
What other fascinating and uniquely NZ-related stuff do you have? For instance, do you have a lot of moa eggs and/or skeletons? How about Maori artifacts?
Tell me, tell me, tell me!!!!!

Hi Hemiola,
Yup, I sure do!
We had the LOTR exhibition here in 2003 and it was fantastic! All of the major costumes and heaps of props etc. The exhibition toured around for a bit, went to a few venues in the states etc.
Peter Jackson still owns all the stuff though but we've just negotiated with him to get the exhibition back here in 2006 and it will be updated to include stuff from ROTK which wasnt in the last exhibition. I can't wait!

Heaps of moa bones! although I don't think there's a complete skeleton...but we have bones coming out of our ears, and only one egg I think.
And we have the largest (and best!!) collection of Mäori Taonga (artefacts) in the world. It's a visually stunning collection...you need to come and see it. It's very well-looked after by fantastic staff!
Hmmm...there's a lot of fascinating stuff here and the majority of it is New Zealand related, we don't really collect international objects.
have a look at our website, we've got quite a few of our collection items online now which you can search through:
