Well the Canadian media should kiss inferiority complexes goodbye. The Canadian women kicked ass during the 1500m speed skating, winning the gold and silver. I am really happy for Cindy Klassen, she is such a lovely lady as well and the gold belongs to her considering she is also the owner of a fabulous world record for this distance. Of course I am also quite happy with yet another medal for the Dutch women. :D The bronze was still lacking for them, so this seems fitting.

'Wow, what a day for us. :bounce
2 Gold medals (Anja Pärson, slalom and Björn Lind, sprint) and one Bronze medal (Tobhias Fredriksson, sprint) ) and also securing at least the Silver medal in curling.

And, not to forget the Silver medal in women's hockey which is like the biggest thing ever to happen in women's hockey.
And also, Wickenheiser's praise about the Swedish team in Swedish television after the game. I think all girls who heard that is starting to play hockey.

Go us=)

Woot! Go Canadians! That was amazing!! I felt bad for Anni Friesinger, no medal again. But she's being such a good sport - she could teach the Dutch a thing or two about that ;)

Well the Dutch men anyway, but she has won a gold and a bronze already these games and there is still the 5000m, hopefully she can add another medal there. Maybe silver as that one is still lacking these games and Renate Groenewold can get the gold. I´d settle for that.

They certainly should, after Crawford, Klassen, Groves, and the short-track relay team's accomplishments today. However, there's only one headline being seen here: "Russia ousts Canada from Olympics." I'm not kidding; apparently nothing else that anyone has done matters, only that their professional hockey players beat ours. You'd think the whole Olympic team was packing up & heading home, instead of just those who are going back to their multi-million dollar NHL contracts.

At the risk of offending Leafsdude, and possibly being stripped of my citizenship, I have to say I'm glad they're out. Let's honour our real Olympic athletes, those who work for years just to compete in the Games, rather than an NHL all-star team who approach it as a 2-week vacation from their real jobs. It's the women's hockey team who show the world what Canadian hockey is all about. And it's the athletes of all nations who play fair and treat their opponents with respect who demonstrate what the Olympics are about.

Women's free skate tomorrow: I'm cheering for Slutskaya.

i'm all about some sasha cohen... i love me a cute jewish girl. however, even my love of the jewish ladies could have been trumped by michelle kwan's presence. so sasha gets my sloppy seconds.

question: in some of the skiing events the skiiers hit all the poles on the way down, in other they're swerving around "gates" - what's the difference?

Ha! Fat chance of doing that.

Just go to Ottawa. No worries about being stripped of anything there no matter what you say..

While in general, I'm not, since it's a lost metal for Canada, and we lose the ability to gloat about being the best at hockey in the world but...

Can't agree more. I liked the idea in 1998, but as soon as the pros didn't make it seem like a chance of a lifetime to play there, and instead made it seem like another job to take care of (which, granted, they couldn't with the pressure the media was placing on them, but i digress). The Olympics are for the people who don't get publicity for 206 weeks out of 208 in the 4 years between the Olympics, not for those that probably get less publicity in those 2 weeks than they do in the other 206. I'd love to see an CHL team sent to play for the metal again instead of these "All-Star Teams" (Right now I'm calling them the "All-Shit Team"). The kids are who we're suppose to be giving this chance to, not these guys that are not playing for the love of the game anymore.

The best thing was that the men's hockey didn't start til day 6, I think, cause it meant for 5 days, I had the other sports to watch, and even better for our Olympians, we were actually winning metals, so I've been watching, and will continue to watch, anything that involves Canadians, and even some events that don't. These are the people that spend all year of every year preparing for this stage, unlike those NHLers who just come together on those 2 weeks they need to.

Anyway, that's my rant.

okay, i'm pissed. wicked pissed even. so i don't look forward to much during the winter olympics. all i really care about are the opening ceremonies, women's figure skating, and maybe a little curling for good measure (really, what's not to love about a sport for nerds with brooms and little to no chance for serious injury?). needless to say, after watching the thrilling women's figure skating short program on tuesday i was super excited about the free-skate tonight. so i get home just a few minutes ago, check my email and then scan the headlines on the comcast newspage - my usual home from work practice. so imagine my shock and disgust when plastered across the page was not only the name of the skating gold medalist, but the reason the bronze and silver came in where they did!!! i can't freakin' believe this!! they totally just ruined my night. i'm not even exaggerating. comcast and any other news service that does this without a fair warning (NBC news tells you to avert your eyes when they show the list of medalists each night) deserve a big kick in the gnads.

So, the Games are over. Now we have to wait for four years for the next Winter Games.

Okay, I'm very proud of our athletes. They managed to grab a total of 29 medals. (11 Gold, 12 Silver and 6 Bronze) And we finished best nation!
:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

There were some expressive performances to be seen during the games. And it's a shame that doping has become an issue again. It always leaves a stale taste and takes the glimmer of the medals won.

See you all in four years in Vancouver (well, not really. But you know what I mean *g*)
