This is an old movie and I've only just watched it, but man, I loved it so much!

The Long Walk Home, with whoopie Goldberg.

I'm not sure what there is to say about the film. I'm not a critic, I just know that it sparked certain emotions in me. Ones that I think made the film more powerful. It's rare that movies like this get made these days, the message they send out has been glamorised. But this movie doesn't need glamour, it just shows how things once were. Simply and tastefully.

Walk The Line has become a surprising favorite of mine. Im too young to know much of Johnny Cash and his music, but the movie was just..well...great!

I just got back from the theater after watching it, too. I believe I liked it more than you, but I do understand what you mean by messy. I would have liked a flowchart or some scratch paper at times to keep some things straight.

Loved the ending especially.

I saw V for Vendetta Friday night and I thought it was excellent. A few details have been changed from the original book and the tone of the film also differs slightly from anti-Thatcherite era it was conceived in, but I feel it's been updated pretty well. Hugo Weaving is superbly cast as the enigmatic V, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth a few quid to go and see.
My one niggly point throughout the film however, was in order for the filmmakers to give the illusion the film is set in a British fascist state, they had everyone use the word 'bollocks' at regular intervals. Just makes me chuckle when I hear it, as 12 year old kids who live near me use far worse words on a daily basis :glasses

"V" for Vendetta was excellent!

We just watched The Corpse Bride on video (DVD) and it was wonderful. It is PG so we put it on even though the baby was awake. He didn't watch it that much but he liked what he saw and wasn't scared (which I was worried about). The amination is fantastic and the music is great. It's funny and touching and just wonderful and beautiful to watch. It's only 1:17 long which is kind of surprising. I definitely highly recommend it.

Saw Inside Man tonight. Liked it - not just for the obvious reason - but because it mixed humour and tension. Just the right balance between the edge-of-the-seat stuff and the now-breathe-for-a-moment funny lines.

And call me stupid, but I really didn't see the ending coming. A clever bit of misdirection at the beginning had me all...well, misdirected.

The obvious reason: Jodie's legs. Although she really needs to learn to walk in heels (the toes should point forwards, honey)....and that's the only criticism you will ever hear me say!

I was cat-sitting for a friend last night and had the opportunity to watch TV (I don't own a TV myself.) Anyway, Saturday Night at the Movies, is always fun on TVOntario. Due to the beginning of baseball season, they were showing A League of Their Own, and 8 Men Out. Fortunately A League of Their Own was the first show, since I didn't stay for the second.

Anyway, what's not to like? Rosie, Madonna, Lori Petty, Geena Davis (is she really 6' tall?), women playing ball (which I did for 15 years), '40s music and styles, Tom Hanks as the boozy manager. It was a lot of fun. And I love the ending with the older women playing a game at Cooperstown. It was also great to see so many, obviously real, ball players during the try-outs scenes.

One of the interesting things about Saturday Night at the Movies is the interviews they do between the 2 movies. This time it was mostly Penny Marshall, who directed the movie. She talked about how the actors had to pass a baseball test first. The report on Madonna was: she's trainable. And I heard somewhere else that Madonna learned how to dance the jitterbug (I think that's the name of the dance) especially for this movie. Debra Winger was originally supposed to play Geena Davis's role, but couldn't/didn't for some reason. Penny was saying she had to keep telling Lori Petty to slow down/hold back because she was doing things faster/better than Geena Davis was. The woman who played Marla (the unattractive one but the best hitter) (just looked it up on imdb -- Megan Cavanagh) actually did all her own hitting.

Anyway, it was a very enjoyable way to spend a Saturday evening.
We must begin somewhere or we will never begin at all.
The absence of small beginnings will spell the end.

It's probably been mentioned before, but S.F.W. is a fantastic show. Admittedly, I only picked it up for the Amber content, but I was very impressed. It's a great skewering of the media culture, and the end made me shake my head and laugh. It's perfect. If anybody hasn't seen this yet, see it!

I loved All Over the Guy. It's about two guys who love each other but can't help pushing each other away. A funny little movie with a happy ending and the Director breast-feeding her baby during the DVD commentary track. :lol

I couldn't help liking this from the writer about a deleted extended ending where we find out that one of the characters has died : "Even though I wrote it and I obviously was married to it at some point there's something about killing off Doris's character of Esther for really no reason. It wasn't really motivated. It was sort of a device and thought, man it's too cheap. You're killing a character that the audience loves and holds the wisdom of the movie."

Can't think what that reminds me of. ;-)

I also watched Gia. I wouldn't say I loved the movie but I loved Angelina Jolie's performance.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a brilliant film. It's certainly the best animated CGI film I've ever seen (well d'uh it's done by the same people who do the FMV for the games, so of course it's good)

Before getting it I had thought it would be the story from the game FFVII, but it turns out a sequel to that story.

With nothing to do but rest my back, I'm trying to go through my DVD library a bit and watched a little film from the 80s called 'Local Hero.' It stars Peter Riegert as an oil company exec from Houston who is sent to a small village in Scotland to negotiate the town's buyout with the locals so his company can build a refinery. It's so funny and gentle and surprising, even 20-odd years later.

I watched Antonia's Line today, and even though I'm not a fan of subtitles
(thank g*d for the pause button or I would have missed half the dialogue) I truly enjoyed this movie. It made me laugh and cry, and I didn't want the movie to end.

Oh Arron, To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite movie of all time. I think it was the only book in school I was forced to read that I actually enjoyed. One of my friends just found the DVD of it for me. It's one of my rainy day movies.

I recently saw an incredible little indie film with Elijah Wood called
Everything is Illuminated written and directed by Liev Schreiber...yet another actor doing the Amber thing...at any rate it is the best film I have seen in a while...I highly recommend it...

Also Pride & Prejudice Keira Knightley was excellent

Recently watched

X-Men 3 which was so-so.

The Divinci Code which I really enjoyed, I hadn't read the book so I liked the twists even if some were a bit predictable. Tom Hanks was very good and Sir Ian Mackellen is always great.

The breakup. It felt awkward watching a couple fight. But the scene when Jennifer bares all (or at least the back of herself) made up for it :blush

I was surprised to find that I really, really, really liked "Silent Hill." I've played the first video game a couple of times and thought the film really captured the scariness factor of the game. The movie was visually stunning and the two lead actresses were as well. I'm definitely going to buy this when it comes out on DVD.

Okay, I loved Walk the Line at the movies and now that I've brought the DVD I just can't get enough of it, I think I've seen it about five times already.

Seriously, if you can't stand the thought of country music, still give this film a go. The acting is absolutely superb all around, notably Reese and Joaquim of course but the supporting cast as well. The director doesnt assume its audience are dummies and have stupid lines telling you, 'This is Elvis' or 'this is Roy Orbison' 'or Johnny wrote this song for so and so reason...', he leaves you to work it all out for yourself and I like that, there's too many films for dummies out there.

I've always not minded Johnny Cash but now I think the guy rocks, I would think that any musician would be honoured to have such a polished and honest biopic made about them.
