Okaaaay! It's now a new show!

This is what I get for working evenings. I miss out on the good stuff.

However, Dana's right. Once you've gone Amber, you never go...um...okay, what rhymes with "Amber"?

Tonight I saw a brief preview on the BBC. It made me wonder about something. See, for the life of me I cannot recall another US comedy that has been aired on the BBC. I´ve only ever seen British comedies on the beeb before. Anyway, I will be watching it again, I stopped watching it months ago, but I am curious enough to see if the show has improved as the posts in this thread suggest and I can bear the not so good parts if seeing Aly is the reward. I just don´t want to download it.

They also showed 'Malcolm In The Middle' in recent times and they showed quite a few in the past. Saw the first ep and thought it was amusing, of course nothing with Aly can be bad.

Ah yes, I recall having seen a few eps of Malcolm in the Middle, but I am not sure I saw it on the BBC, I probably saw it on a Dutch channel. I still cannot remember any of those others though, heh. Then again, I also forgot to watch the first episode of How I met your mother yesterday, yet another testament to the black hole that is my memory these days.

Man: when Lily gets teary-eyed (the scene w/ Ted, by the side of the road), it really seems like Aly is channeling Willow again... :paranoid

GG Sometimes, I have no idea where this show is going---yet I'm still happy enough (w/ Aly!) to be along for the ride :grin Out

You got that, too? Man, it felt like I was watching "Buffy" when I saw that whole scene. Aly really can make ya tear easily.

OK, was there some kind of announcement about Aly leaving the show that I somehow managed to miss?

Spoiler:
Because the end of the season finale doesn't give me much hope that she'll be back next season.

Never heard of that. And I don't think she will. At least not until she get's another offer which is so much better that she can't decline. But I also didn't know anything of the spoiler. We will see how the finale will go.

Everyone please keep in mind that the finale will be running late since the Retard-In-Chief will be speaking tonight.

I am very much looking forward to it since Amy Acker will be putting in an appearance, and we may also see Alexis again. :party

Hey...yet another Buffy/Angel alum...first we have Wesley and now Fred! Can Amber be far behind??? Please say NO SHE CAN'T!!!! I sincerely doubt Aly is leaving the show...cuz if anyone would know about it ahead of time, we would, don't you think? Besides, main character or not she is basically the star so I don't see that happening...but let me say...

I REALLY HATED THAT ENDING!!!!!!

OK, saw last night's finale, the first episode I've seen in a while...

Amy Acker, cute as always...but watching "Fred" lock lips with Doogie Himmler was just too disturbing.:no

I thought of a great way to get Amber on the show for at least one episode: she's a girl that Marshall meets while Lily is in SanFran. Probably some New Age-y, groovy, spacey type (think Phoebe from Friends) but with a real predatory edge; she sees Marshall as on the rebound, ripe for the pickins. Naturally, Lily comes back and does not like what she sees. Major confrontations ensue. Serious catfight potential.

It's a great opportunity for Amber to a) play against type and b) have significant screen time with Aly (which seems to be lacking with AA and Alexis.)

Last night's finale smacks of desperation in the part of the show's writers.
The entire season, they strung the viewers along with an uninterrupted tale of Lilly and Marshal's love for each other and how they were insatiable, having sex at the drop of a hat.
Now, in an insane cry for attention, they have written it so that Marshall is suddenly insecure about their relationship and they break up and she gives him back her engagement ring.
Is this going to turn into something like Xander and Anya in BTVS where they are no longer a vouple but they still hang out together with their circle of friends?
Bring on Amber for Aly.

Sadly, what it means is that htey set up next year so that Lilly can have flings with either Barney or Ted, or both. Before she returns to Marshall.

Actually I really liked this season finale. It was funny and heart breaking. Both at the same time. And leaving Marshall on the stairs with only showing the engagement ring to Ted after we saw Lily and Marshall making up in Pause? That's what I call great writing. You can say so much things without words.

This leaves options for the next season. And it's a good decision giving Lily something more to do besides being Marshall's girlfriend. Her character truly was endangered by that fact. Now she can go on experience tour a little and come back to Marshall in the end. And they will be. I'm sure. But I'm not so sure about wanting to see her experiencing a lesbian relationship. Because this can only end bad for the other girl. Lily belongs with Marshall.

In case anyone in the UK missed this (like stoopid me) it is running on BBC3 on a Monday night at 11pm, and then repeated on BBC2 on a Sunday night at 7.35pm.

It started on the 1st May, I think, so if you haven't seen it yet, you've missed three.

I was disappointed in that the stupid President of the United States' speech cut into the show and the Tivo didn't catch it - so half the show was something or other and half was HIMYM. And I didn't see the second half - have to wait for a rerun.

from the NY Daily News:

Hot...but attainable

How a few flaws can go a
long, long way in the sex stakes

By JO PIAZZA

"Man, she's hot. But I could so get her!"

That's the type of smack-worthy male phrase you'd never hear during, say, an episode of "Friends," or "Grey's Anatomy." The women on those shows are way too skinny and flawless.

But if you've ever been in the company of men watching CBS' Monday night comedy "How I Met Your Mother," you might hear such a sentiment expressed.

All of the girls on the show - Robin (Cobie Smulders), Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Victoria (Ashley Williams) - are what guys call "attainable hot."

The "attainable hot" girl is pretty, but not so gorgeous that she only dates millionaires and celebrities. In fact, she looks just enough like your sister or neighbor to make an average guy thinks he can get her.

If you've missed "How I Met Your Mother," the show revolves around Ted, a 28-year-old architect (and pretty normal guy), telling his future children about how he met their mother and all the dating misadventures along the way.

His gal pals include Robin (who also might be a future love interest), Lily (his best friend's fiancee) and Victoria (the girl he screws over) - all women who drink beer, and have imperfect hair and the bods of normal gals.

Don't get us wrong, the ladies on CBS' sleeper hit, set in Manhattan, are gorgeous. But unlike their television counterparts on other shows set in California (like "The O.C.'s" Mischa Barton), these girls have flaws.

The "attainable hot" category includes actresses like Amanda Bynes of "What I Like About You," Laura Prepon of "That '70s Show," and Sara Ramirez of "Grey's Anatomy."

But Smulders' Robin, "How I Met Your Mother's" lead character, is the "attainable" poster girl.

"She seems very approachable. She is the kind of girl that you or your friends would date. She is 'attainable,'" says Ryan Budke, a 25-year old writer. "My own real 'girl next door' crush at the moment shares a lot in common with Robin."

"These girls are like fantasies for slobbo young guys who don't want to watch their carb intake and can sit back and think 'I can still get a girl like that,'" says Ken Tucker, editor-at-large for Entertainment Weekly.

"Now instead of truly unattainable fantasy women like Heather Locklear you have these more ordinary girls who are still portrayed by actresses who any guys would love to pin up on their walls."

Tucker cites Pam (Jenna Fischer) from NBC's "The Office" as another example of "attainable hot."

"Half the people at our magazine have a crush on Pam," says Tucker, "because she seems attainable but is still really really pretty."

Thanks to summer repeats, I am now seeing eps of HIMYM that I didn't see in the first run (I was working evenings).

Last night was the one where Lily moves in with Ted and Marshall, because her apartment has been taken over by a Chinese restaurant. Not quite the laugh riot (although Aly's reactions, as usual, cracked me up). There seems to be the running gag of Marshall doing something to cause Lily minor injury -- a champange cork in the eye in the pilot, here she was stabbed by Marshall with a sword (just in the shoulder, but hey...)
