Wow, what a fantastic conclusion. I love the action and passion of the fight scene. It's great how you told it from Willow's POV so that we know how hard the fight is in both the real world and the dreamscape. She's hurt so badly but trying to save Tara and in so much pain because of her love for Tara. In the meantime, I love the way we know that Buffy has fallen because the LGF (not so little) shows up to kill W/T. Beautifully done. I think there are quite a few writers who could learn about the power of the unshown.

Tara's realization of the alien's intent and plan is fantastic and its great that she's able to use their plan against them. They must have felt very confident in their ability to use her to draw her into their weak point. Your descriptions are very viceral and fantastic for the readers. And Faith! You know I love her and she's a hero here. Buffy and Willow have a great few moments at the end and it's all wrapped up so well.

Fantastic job. I can't wait for your next offering.

Wow, I can't believe it's over.
So all my praying for Alex was for nothing? Ah well, it WAS war. Now everyone has to deal with the aftermaths I guess (Because in my mind the story isnt over yet hehe).
I always suspected that the LGFs would use Tara's mom, or rather, her appearance to trick Tara. Good that Tara had Willow! Such a powerful love to help Tara find her way back and to help Willow ignore the pain to help Tara in return.
What more can I say? Perfect ending to a perfect story. Can't wait for you to post a new story :x
“Great,” Willow muttered, although her voice was playful, “I guess I love you too…meanie.”

So I guess you are Tara? Since you were a big meanie teasing us with the TBC... ;)

GayNow: Okay…calm down, I don’t want to make anyone suffer a meltdown and the Chapter isn’t going to disappear! Read at your leisure!

SithLordWiccan: Chris had it up in a flash so yay for Chris! You’re printing off the whole story? That’s an awful lot of paper!

caz: The fact that it’s finished is sinking in now, give the fact that I am happily working away on my new fic without feeling guilty that I have more than two fics on the go (well, there’s about five in the pipeline but they don’t count!)
Yes well, they are the bad guys so therefore I have to make them as mean and nasty and possible…and presumably they don’t have the deep respect and affection that we all feel for Tara!
Buffy’s dying was sad, but it also served a point, illustrating that this is not Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Buffy as the main character, therefore I can kill her off quite happily (well, I wasn’t laughing about it!) and not have her come back to life. This is the Willow and Tara show where our heroines will always live happily ever after thank goodness. And we had to have the happiest ending possible with our girls getting married (because of course as you will remember, my alternate version of the 1930s is exceptionally gay friendly!) and having a pre-made family! Let’s hope Mrs Chippy (as you will remember he is a boy) can father some little Miss Kittys in the future!
Thanks very much, I’m aiming to get the new fic up quite soon just because I want to share it with everyone!

Useful_Oxymoron: You’re making my head swell UO! But of course, to win wars you always have to lose good friends. I have watched countless war films and it always happens that you get to know and like the characters and then they’re killed and die surrounded by their mates.
And yes, you’ll have to imagine that the wedding would have been very moving indeed…although the guests would have been few.
Mysterious new story will be landing shortly…it’s not that mysterious, just yet another AU!

spells42: It has always struck me that the climaxes of sci-fi films and most action films are always the biggest act in the movie with everything going on all at once. This is what I wanted to convey at the end of Captain Red. If it was going to be made into a movie, this is where all the money would be spent!
And then all of a sudden everything narrows down into such a small focus. It would have been too hard to explain exactly what the world was like in the aftermath and there are too many questions that needed answering. My solution was to not do any of that and just give a snapshot through Willow and Tara’s experience.
Thanks for the visuals, you’re semi along the same track as me. You know how old sci-fi films were futuristic but not> simply because of the time when they were filmed. So all the gadgets in Captain Red wouldn’t be straight off the set of Star Trek: TNG but rather out of the pages of an old comic book. The world in those sci-fi serials was always pretty bright though and I think I was trying to convey some of that. The fact that Willow’s squadron flew red planes, the Net that encircled the fleet was pink! The alien blood was bright green and their eyes purple…things like that. So while it became a dark storyline there was always colour throughout.
Hopefully you wont be waiting long, I’ll be back to updating Rhyme and Reason now and there should be a new story up soon…although look for ‘Alcy’ in the authors box instead of ‘KiwiAlcyone.’

Dianneswillowtree: Thanks heaps, I wanted it to be as action packed as possible, yet still have tender little W/T moments and a lot of humour, as well as angst. No plans for a part II at all…I think the planet can only handle one alien invasion! Although I’d love to do another flying fic one day, maybe set in space!

Artemis: I think up until the end they had me fooled too, I still half-wanted her to turn out to be the real Diana sine she meant so much to Tara, but in the end, I am cruel and the plot reflects that! I’d also hope that the real Diana would be proud of Tara, not to mention itching to kick the fake ones arse!
Aren’t the red laser cannons in Star Wars for the Imperials? But I know what you mean, laser in general = cool. I’d be inclined to go for Hot Rod over Optimus…although he was more orange and that really yucky red! But I think we get your point, Red in general = evil! So no surprises there. I should have made it a nice buttercup yellow.
I had to have Faith at the end, the show always illustrated that she was a survivor (where Buffy was always dying!) and she is my favourite character after W/T. I like the image of her standing in the doorway with a smoking gun! At the end, her struggles were reflected in her need for solitude, and the fact she couldn’t let herself settle down for a quiet life with W & T…not yet anyway.
Small scale for the epilogue was always the way to go. Besides, I didn’t think I had it in me to write a huge, full-scale conclusion to everything and you’re right, the scale would have been so huge to make it impersonal. We need to keep it close to home.
Yup, the end of Captain Red…well, just the fic, Captain Red is going to be alive and well in Oregon. No doubt having lots of hot gay sex and learning how to ride horses!

Watty: You and me both, that’s why I had to put everything else on hold and just get it finished. I’m feeling pretty relieved now.
Our heroines were looking pretty messy at the end, me being sadistic I wanted to push them to the very limit of their endurance…and life! Simply to illustrate the power that love has to push people beyond those limits.
Despite the fact that their lives have been torn apart, their future does look nice and cosy, so I was glad to end on that note.
Everyone just can’t wait for that new story huh? I hope its not a let down!!

JustSkipIt: It’s always difficult trying to tell such a large scale event from the right POVs, but I hope I pulled this one off in a believable manner. It certainly was hard work! I’m of the firm belief that you don’t need to show absolutely everything and this chapter certainly illustrates that, not only in the narrow focus of the epilogue but also throughout the chapter, concentrating on Faith’s POV in escaping the burning ship, and Cherry’s POV of the alien invasion and the subsequent destruction of their race on a large scale. The scale of this would have been huge but to limit it to the POV of one little boy made it manageable and believable.
I don’t think the LGFs counted on Tara being such a strong individual, no doubt the other captured humans they had used before went willingly to their deaths. Thanks ever so much, I look forward to presenting my next fic!

WillowRulez: I’m sorry I couldn’t save Alex…and I rubbed it in by having him die a rather grizzly (but unseen) death. Of course the story isn’t over, no doubt there are many challenges to be faced in their new life…getting the farm back up and running, what are they going to eat? And of course how Tara is going to feel when she comes back to the house where her father and brother died, and how they adapt to being the parents of a little boy who has seen so much? But all that will be mercifully left unsaid, I could keep on going for many chapters yet!!!
Yes, the real decider was when the fake Diana said she was the only one who loved Tara, definitely not the right thing to say!!!
Come on, I’m not a meanie!!

Yeah, well. See...the thing is...I had already printed off the majority of the fic back when I was on my whole "print to save" fic kick when I (finally) discovered that my CD's worked on the computers at school. So I was printing off all the saved fics I had, which included Captain Red. I think the way I had it was at about 120 pages. I printed those, then just kept printing off the newest chapters as they went up.

Anyways, I know I still haven't left proper feedback yet. I plan on getting around to it. It's just that with school, writing my own fics and real life ("What's that?" you ask? Ha ha ha. ) keep getting in the way.

But it's coming soon. Promise!

Hey Sith - You should get one of those memory stick things. I keep all my favorite stories on it. I can take it with me and as long as I have got access to a 'puter I can read them any time.

Ha ha Sith, that's a great plan, I once printed all of Captain Red off at work and it was a lot of pages! I think I kill at least fifty trees.

I agree with stuff getting in the way, my girlfriend and I just brought a new fish tank (we've already got two!!) so that needs to be set up tonight, she's the expert so all I get to do is scrub rocks and carry buckets of water! I

I'll wait patiently for my feedback!

I have a memory stick, it's actually supposed to be used across my whole team at work but no one else every uses it. I hope they don't ever want to cos it's loaded up with nothing but W & T fics!!!

Well, my new fic Sin City is up!
I'm thinking about posting my other one as well, it's a little tamer than Sin city for family audiences!

Alcy - post your other story too, I'll read anything you post!

By the way, my boy is twenty this year so he's plenty old enough to own 'Sin City'.

As for the shared memory stick - I think that Willow and Tara take priority... don't you! :laugh

. . . Okay, so I'm a little late. Feel free to give me a whuppin, but WAIT, there's feedback. (Haha, the whuppin will have to wait :party )

So as usual, I am in complete and utter awe. You have a knack for doing that to me. It's pretty suck-y that Buffy died in the end, but like you said before, gotta kill someone close to us. I was looking forward to Buffy and Willow making up and being all best friends while Tara and Willow did their lesbian lovin' thang. But alas, that is asking too much, especially in a fic about war. Boo. Hoo.

A small smile crossed Buffy’s face and she spoke, her lips barely moving, “Stop crying…I don’t wanna die surrounded by sissies.”

How very grr, I am strong warrior. Sniffle.

But then you did Xander too . . .
She reached the other side safely and passed Alex’s lifeless, headless body. A tentacle had wrapped itself around the young man’s neck and ripped it off in one brutal movement. Faith’s eyes stung with unshed tears but she couldn’t stop.

Why's he always losing body parts?

In all seriousness, it was rich, compelling, thoughtful, emotional. Yes my mental-me teared up a bit. T'was a beautiful story and I'm just glad that I could read it (a lot. over and over again.) I loved how it ended like a western. You silly gal you. Walking into the sunset, with her girl and with an inevitable future filled with horses.

To sum up: OH MY GOD!!! I LOVE THIS STORY! I LOVE YOU!! HOLD ME, IT'S OVER!!! OH MY GOD!!

. . . and thank ya for it.

I've been out of town but was thrilled to see the conclusion of Captain Red when I got back. I really love how you used the dream landscape that you introduced into the beginning as the way to nuke the aliens. Reminds me of the cold that offed them in "War of the Worlds". Nice to see Willow and Tara retire to the farm with Cherry but it was sad to see so many Slayers and Devils die. Great story. Thanks so much for writing it and posting it here.

caz: I'll post it when R & R gets a little closer to completion!
And yes, I agree, Willow and Tara do take precedence over stupid work stuff!

beanie: I think I can forgive your lateness!
I do feel a little horrible for killing Buffy but it always seems in war movies that the best friend dies. I didnt kill Faith as well so I hope that made up for it! And yes, poor Xander died in a much yuckier and unheroic manner, and he didnt even rate a death scene!
Thank you so much for your lavish praise, I do love it when people enjoy my fics as it makes all the hard work worthwhile! And you can feel free to re-read it over and over again if you so wish!

sam7777: Thanks for taking the time to pop by and thanks for your feedback, yes, it did feel a little World of the Worlds-like in the end as they were all killed simultaneously by something (although I hope it wasnt as silly as a cold!)
No problem, there are very few things that I love more than writing W & T fic and posting it on Pens for Kittens to read!

damn great fics coming from you alcy :D
you're definitely one of my favorite fan fic writers now!!!

anyways, i was sooooo wrong in basing what to read on the titles. i am so not into martian invader fics, but you were able to make me like this story - it's so beautiful. the "making love" part was also nice - i mean it was written with so much passion and the innocence... i believe it conveyed reality in some ways. willow feeling responsible in making tara's first meaningful. it's just WOW.

now i'll be waiting for "sin city" updates. i also LOVE that story. i love it to the point that i became curious of sin city so i bought one comic book to understand your story better :)

Grimmy sneaks in to post some verrry late feedback....

This must be the fic where most people close to W/T die, very harsh universe indeed. Goes to proof war is really not good for you :)

Those evil aliens were all self-confident weren't they? They pretty much took Tara right to the spot with the 'destroy alien race' button. The consequence of the fake mother is that Tara didn't get to talk with her true mother which is sad :cry. Willow seemed to act like a sort of beacon for Tara to focus on in the real world. There wasn't much she could do with shoulder stabbed.

Faith shooting the alien who was about to stab Tara was nice and unexpected. I was however imagining said alien to be standing right in front of Tara, so shooting him in the back would seem rather dangerous to Tara. Good thing nothing came of that fear :)

I'm still amazed both Willow and Tara were able to get out of the ship. Neither could walk very well in their condition, good thing they found a nearby exit ;-) Good thing it didn't blow up, they would never have been able to get enough distance. Amazing that Cherry first saw them walking towards him, really thought they would be all lying down and awaiting medivac. They must have spend WEEKS in hospital, which hopefully were a bit better than I imagine them in that time/era :P

I wonder, will that farm they'll run have a nice little airplane to spray crops and such ?? :smug . How long will it take for Willow to get restless or will she truly settle down ? Questions, questions...

't was a good story mylady :bow :bow

-Grimmy

P.S. "Sincity" is your next story? Having only seen the movie I'm a bit doubtfull that place can be made anywhere near WT friendly, but if you write it... I *might* take a look.
"You hurt Tara," Willow said too calmly. "The last one who tried that was a god. I made her regret it."

Shane: Thanks so much, I love the fact that I can write fics I love that other people grow to love to! Sharing is great. :party
This title did put a lot of people off intially, but I hope once everyone did clink on it that they found something worth reading. I love the title so I would never think of changing it despite its weirdness. And yes, I love writing 'first' sex scenes. I still have two fics on the go at the moment where they havent had sex yet, I'm saving up all my smut writing skills!

Thanks for reading along with Sin City too, they really should pay me royalties!

grimmy:
Alcy watches Grimmy sneak in...
I was wondering where you were!
Yes, war is not good for people, I hope I was able to illustrate that, although I am by no means an expert.
Yup, gotta love stupid aliens who don't appreciate just how smart their prey are.
I love the idea of Willow as a beacon, keeping Tara grounded in the real world. I've used this idea several times and will probably continue to use it (at the risk of repetition!)
Hmmm, I would imagine that someone as smart as Faith would shoot the alien in a way so as not to hit Tara, because the bullets from a Bren gun are pretty damn big and I would hate to ruin everything like that.
I kinda cheated by concentrating on Faith and Buffy's exit from the ship rather than Willow and Tara's. I wanted to give the impression that they might not get out (but of course we all knew they would!) and I also wanted to cut to the chase pretty quickly. I think also that they would hve been walking very slowly! And also, although it wasnt featured, given all the advances they had made in everything else, weapons etc, I think medicine would have advanced somewhat, although I did try to show in the epilouge that they were both still very weak.
And as for Willow on our little farm....for godssake someone get that woman a plane!!! I'm sure we won't keep Willow out of the sky for long. But you have to stop asking questions because I can't answer them anymore!!! :sh I'll leave it up to everyone to imagine their own little W & T paradise! Thanks so much for reading all throughout this fic and leaving such excellent feedback which has really helped the development of the story
Cheers!

This was a great story Alcy. You had romance and gross violence and death and dismemberment! Geez. It was definitely more entertaing than the movie (trailer) you got your inspiration from.

Willow and Tara were great fun to tag along with. I thought you had both of them down pretty well throughout.

Really sad that Buffy died, though. I was hoping that since they'd finally patched things up they'd get to be Best Friends Forever again. Oh, well, such is life, I suppose.

Cherry was really cute too, and his cat.

Alcy,

I know that this story has been completed for a while now, but I just found it and I must say...Well done! It was a great romp and I love the images of pre-WWII flyboys superimposed on the characters that we all know and love. I must also add that I'm glad I'm not the Buffy that lives in your head. She is forever doomed, which I might add doesn't hurt me in the least.

I was inspired to purchase "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" in honor of this story. Too bad it wasn't anywhere near as good a story as yours was. Thank you for a great ride and congratulations on a job well done.

bytrsuite: Thanks very much! Is there anything better than a combination of romance, gross violence, death and dismemberment? Well, I can think of a couple of things but not much!
It was great fun to throw Willow and Tara into this environment, I love military aviation and Flyboys and what not so this was one of my favourite fics to write.
Sorry about Buffy, you might think I really like killing her off...but in actual fact it suited the storyline, good people die in war, friends die, so Buffy was one amongst many to die.
Glad you liked Cherry, I had fun writing him, and that led to me including Ashley in Rhyme and Reason.

dlline: I certainly don't mind you leaving feedback after its been completed, it's always great to hear that people are still reading and enjoying it.
Haha, yeah, Buffy does get a bad wrap in my fics!
Sorry I inspired you to purchase 'Sky Captain' it is really a terrible film and nothing like this fic turned out to be! I'm not quite sure what you'd compare it to.
Thanks very much Diane

Alcy, thank you so very much for all your wonderful stories about our two favorite girls! You have a very captivating way of writing and I will definetly look out for new fics by you and continue my search for older ones! You make them go through hell and yet you have had me in tears, laughing, sitting at the edge of my seat gripping the table, squirming with exitement.. Well done!

That was an amazing story and i read it as quickly as i could. You wrote a great story, background on every one and the story had a nice pace. The alien ship reminded me of a borg cube so i was able to make a nice visual on the final action scenes. The war you wrote their feelings was amazingly done, their sadness, pain, fears and joys were notable on the other side of the screen. Thanks for a great story.

I can honestly say, I never tire of reading your writing. Your descriptions do something amazing for the story. Even though I'm not into the whole alien thing, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
