Dudes! See notes r.e. Buffy slayed Veruca during the first night of the wolf moon.

Cam's a smartass. We know that. We're blind. Okay, pointed conceded. You get a box of d'asses for your keen eye.

But that doesn't mean something else can't happen that causes a rift between Willow and Oz. Though I'm liking the idea that Willow isn't completely in the right.

I'm interested in this culpable Willow -- and kind of a little agast at her brazen disregard for Oz & Tara's feelings -- it seems kind of odd, considering the Xander fall out she went through last year.

Of course I want her and Tara to get together, and Tara *is* the prettiest girl on campus... but I forsee some very hurt Tara feelings in the not to distant future, and quite possibly one very pissed off werewolf.

I just hope that Willow can work things out in a way that doesn't cost her too much - in terms of honesty and integrity and stuff like that.

I am really enjoying this story and I anxiously await your next update...

Something tells me Tara won't be too pleased when she finds out. Or Oz. Wonder if you'll stick to canon here and Oz will hook up with Veruca? So many questions! Can't wait for what's next.

I have on my site a behind the scenes that had Willow and Tara so shy with each other it's amazing they ever came together. I always figured that yeah, they're both shy, but just not with each other.

As for Veruca...what Cam said.

highlandlass25 wrote:Awesome! I'm so excited to see what happens at the dance. And when Willow tells Tara about Oz. Poor Tara...:( That could be a heart breaker.

My boss on Watchers says “The more you love your characters, the more you should torture them." It's good advice. Conflict equals drama equals a good story.

Oops indeed. For a smart girl, Willow's not thinking straight, is she? Gee, I just made a really bad pun, didn't I? But hey, if you're interacting with Tara Maclay, would you think straight?

Update soon…hopefully today.

diamondforever wrote: Awww, I'm totally in love with this story! Great of you to treat us Kittens, Susan.

Thanks. And it's you kittens who are treating me. You guys have to be the most loyal readers in all of fandom.

taralicious wrote:This is the Director's cut of "Hush" complete with deleted scenes and insights into Willow and Tara's motivations for the laundry room scene. There are so many moments of intimacy between the two of them in the laundry room showing the immediacy and strength of their union. Tara wrapping Willow's ankle, their joining hands again to move the pop machine as a means of egress, and Tara's 'showoff' thought. For Part Two, Willow is struck with a sudden and overwhelming case of the "Oz Who's?" "Curses, foiled again. I have a boyfriend. But I have a date with the prettiest girl in Sunnydale." Willow's solution is obvious but not very literary so I await how you draw out the tension as to how Willow sets about reconciling her attraction to Tara without having to pay much lip service to Oz.

Glad you liked the “director's cut." We should have had more moments like that on the show…but alas, I guess they had to focus on the title character. Darn them!

on the “Oz who?" line. Ever time I see Willow's smile in Hush when Tara tells her she's special, that's what I imagine runs through Willow's mind.

spells42 wrote: I find this a really different approach to the usual W/T characters. Tara's just that bit more confident, and has a bunch of friends. Willow's also more confident, both with Oz (the flirting etc.) and with Tara, and she seems to recognise her attraction to Tara straight away.

I really admire the way you write all your characters and scenes so convincingly with seemingly little effort!

I figured even someone as shy as Tara would make friends after a year of college, even if it was out of sheer loneliness. We know she was bold enough to join the Wiccan group, why not the lesbian group as well?

And thanks for the wonderful compliment on my writing. Believe me, it's no little effort, but I've been writing for a LONG time (since I was 12, which I'm amazed to say that's one year more than three decades. And I've been writing Willow and Tara since discovering BtVS almost four years ago.

bluebird wrote:Tara is gonna be hurt when she finds out that Will has a boyfriend, and it'll be worse if someone other than Willow tells her.

Angst. It's what's for dinner.

watty wrote: What do you do when you find yourself stuck between a longer term relationship with someone you really like and have a lot of history with, and someone you just met who you are subconsciously (and increasingly consciously) hopelessly attracted to? It's not so clear cut, Willow and Oz are still very much a couple, yet with Tara it seems like their attraction / chemistry is like a two forces that cannot be stopped.

You find yourself caught between a rock and a hard place, much like Willow is at the moment.

watty wrote: Liking this Tara very much. Confident and has good friends. Sensitive ones too, to not out her before she's ready. She's still shy, like in canon, but it was hard to imagine someone as genuine as her not making any friends at college.

I admit I borrowed Tara's friends from some of the wonderful people I work with at Whole Food Market so it's no wonder they're depicted as being good to Tara. And as I said above, she would have made friends and with Tara, I doubt she could have any “casual" friends.

watty wrote:When a couple split up, it's not just one sided. You've built up the scenario where Willow isn't completely the innocent party, she thinks Tara is the prettiest girl on campus, and just set a date up. Oz is still there in the background and hasn't done anything wrong, yet (like Sally I'm curious about whether anything happens with Veruca). I like it very much since it's much more realistic -- affairs of the heart have so many different shades of grey don't they.

Shades of gray, yes…not to mention red hot passion, green jealousy and blue depression and so on. Ever notice how we tend to assign colorful adjectives to emotions?

Your compassion for Oz is overwhelming. And smoochies are a given. I recently shocked another group of fans by writing a PG-13 story and the 13 part was only because of a simple girl/girl kiss.

Boy, y'all sure put a lot of pressure on authors for smoochies. I'm starting to feel as anxious about it as I was about my own first smoochie.

JustSkipIt wrote: Awesome start. I love the AUs you've done on canon here. First off, it's nice to see a real contest between Tara and Oz. I have to say that I always thought it wasn't really a "fair fight" between them. So this evens it a bit. I love the way you've depicted the connection W/T share through the magic and the way that turns Willow on (in multiple ways). Tara seems much more self-confident here and we see that she has friends who care about her (not canon it would seem). Finally, this Willow who boldly asks Tara out (even though Willow has a bf) is very fun and exciting. Can't wait for more.

A fair fight, hmm? I can just imagine Tara and Oz putting up their dukes. And if you met Tara, wouldn't you ask her out? Like…duh!

I was kinda aghast at Willow's brazen disregard for Oz's feelings before. Now, I could see her caring less about Cordelia's feelings, but at least she showed guilt. But in the end, she went after what she wanted, despite hurting Xander in the process. So, sometimes there are other desires that even guilt can't overcome.

I repeat: update soon.
Part 3
Advice

After waking up, Willow tried to study, but couldn't concentrate. She downed three mochas one after the other, and spent the next two hours flinging clothes around the room, trying to figure out what to wear to the dance. Then she put them all away again.

What am I thinking? I can't go out with Tara. I'm in a relationship with someone else. A monogamous relationship! That kinda means no dating other people. I'm gonna call her and cancel.

As she hung up a khaki colored pair of slacks, she wondered idly if Tara would like her in them. She looked at it a moment and tossed it on her bed and began to rummage through her closet to find a blouse to match the pants. She started pulling clothes out of the closet again.

I wonder what Tara's gonna wear? Whatever it is, I'm sure she'll be gorgeous in it.

By midmorning, Willow was a wreck and needed to talk to someone. Buffy was off who knew where and that only left her other best friend. She hesitated because of his involvement in the last time she strayed, but she knew he would understand more than Buffy.

Throwing on the jeans she wore the night before and a peasant blouse, she made her way over to Xander's. She found him reading a comic book in bed.

"No one answered the door so I used my key," she explained after she greeted him. She took a seat on the arm of his pull-out bed. "Spike was lying on the couch watching television. He barely grunted a hello."

"That's Mr. Personality for ya," he said with a grimace. The sound of the television filtered through the floor.

"Where are the folks?" she asked.

"Sleeping off a righteous hangover, I imagine…although how they could sleep through that racket I have no idea," he answered. "I finally gave in and paid my rent so of course it was spent at the liquor store rather than on basement improvements as promised."

"I'm sorry, Xander," Willow said with a pout.

"Don't worry about it," he shrugged. "I don't. So…what brings you the dark and dank?

Willow frowned. "Things are a little weird right now and it's not something I wanna talk to Buffy about. I thought maybe a translator from the 'Y' side of things would be more helpful."

"You're in luck, then," he replied. "I fit the bill. Hit me."

Willow bit her lip. "Well what if a couple is in a relationship…"

"What kind of relationship?" he teased.

She blushed. "You know…an intimate relationship."

"Will, if you're doin' it, ya oughta say it."

"They're lovers," she said, her face turning even redder. He just smiled gently and indicated for her to continue. "And say that one of them is noticing someone else – another woman."

"And is this chick noticing back?"

Willow nodded. "Most definitely," she said. A flash of happiness came and went so fast, Xander never noticed. "And say that one of them…kinda sorta made a date with her for tonight."

"Will, I've deciphered your code," he held up a hand to stop her from continuing. "I'm sorry, Willow…how did you find out that Oz is dating someone else?"

Willow looked at her friend, a guilty look on her face. "It's…it's not Oz."

Xander blinked. And then he blinked again. "You met someone else?"

"I didn't mean to," Willow said with a pained expression. "She literally knocked me off my feet."

"Yeah, you said she was a she," he nodded.

"You're not freaked?" Willow asked with a worried look.

"Willow, you're my oldest and bestest bud," he said. "I'm not freaked…I mean, after we met vampire you I kind of suspected that you might also like girls, and sometimes I noticed you checking out the same girls I was checking out."

"Yeah," Willow admitted. "That's when I started thinking about the Sapphic side of things myself. Vamp me was a real eye-opener, wasn't she? Who could ever have imagined I'd be that skanky?"

"And totally hot in leather, I might add" Xander laughed, but then sobered. "But I'm just surprised that you'd cheat on Oz again."

"I haven't cheated on Oz," Willow defended.

"Willow, you've got a date with someone else…that's heading in the direction of Cheatsville," Xander pointed out. "And what kind of girl is she anyway, going out with someone already in a relationship?"

Willow's cheeks burned hotly and she simply hung her head instead of answering

"Oh Willow," Xander said. "So you've got a date tonight with someone who thinks you're kinda gay and that you're single?"

Willow nodded. Xander sighed and lifted her chin with a finger and asked softly, "What's her name, Will?"

"Tara," she said the name almost reverently. "She's so sweet and nice and kinda shy and a goddess, and she's so beautiful! I met her at that stupid Wicca group, but she's a real witch like me and she saved me from the Gentlemen the other night and I just felt an instant connection with her and she said her mother told her that her destiny is here and that's why she came to Sunnydale even though she knows about slayers and vampires and the Hellmouth and…"

"Will!" Xander interrupted. "Calm down and breathe." Willow took a breath and he continued. "You really like this girl, huh?"

Willow smiled. "Yeah, I do. I can't explain it, but the moment she touched my hand and we cast the spell together that saved us from the Gentlemen, it was like…"

"What?"

Willow looked at her best friend and whispered, "Like I touched the other half of my soul."

"And this is just not another fluke"

"I don't think so," she said. "But what do I know? Not like I'm all experienced when it comes to girls. But…I think she likes me, too."

"And now for the big question…what about Oz?"

"I don't know," she admitted. "He's in L.A. with the guys."

"Conveniently out of town," he noted. "Have you guys been having problems – going from high school to college changes people and they start to drift apart. And what about, ya know, in the bedroom? Things okay there? Not that I'm looking details…well, maybe a few details."

Willow rolled her eyes. "No problems, but…" She paused a moment. "Things have been good, but…"

"That's the second time you've butted, Will. What's going on?"

Willow again paused. She had known Xander all her life – they had learned about life together, everything from how to tie their shoes to the birds and the bees. Add to that he was currently sleeping with an ex-demon obsessed with sex. He probably could give her some advice.

"We haven't been seeing as much as we were before…we've both got heavy schedules and most of his almost non-existent free time he spends with the band. And his habit of skipping class to practice with the guys really worries me…I'm afraid it's like his senior year all over again, but flunking out of the university is not like being left back in high school," she bit her lip as if to illustrate her worry.

"And the other?"

She blushed again. "Things were really good at first, but with all the precautions we have to take because of his wolfiness, it kinda takes the spontaneity out of things," Willow said. "It's hard, ya know…to feel really close to someone with so many layers of protection between you."

Xander nodded in understanding. "But you guys manage, right? I mean you…"

"Oh yeah," Willow assured. "Oz makes me happy and I love him, but – I don't know…I guess I expected more passion. I always feel like Oz is holding back somehow…that he's afraid if he lets go his animal side will come out and hurt me. He's always gentle and caring, but sometimes…"

"Sometimes a girl wants to get a little wild," he finished. "Believe me Will, I understand."

Willow grinned. "I knew you would."

"So what are you gonna do?"

"I'll go out with Tara tonight and see how it goes," she said with determination.

"You have to tell her about Oz," he urged.

"I will," Willow said. "Eventually. I just want to see what it's like spending some romantic time with a girl…at least once and with Oz out of town, it's perfect timing." Xander looked at her until she started squirming uncomfortably until she said almost angrily. "Don't look at me in that tone of voice, Xander Harris. I'm not out to hurt anyone."

"No matter what, Willow, you will hurt someone," he said. "We didn't set out to hurt anyone during the fluke, but we did. Didn't you learn anything from that?"

"Well, it's not like you've learned anything from your demon magnet past," she retorted. "I mean, do you feel anything for Anya or is she just a convenient bed partner? Won't that end up hurting her in the end?"

"Let's leave Anya and I out of this," he said, jumping off the bed as if to put distance between them. "This is about you two-timing one of my best friends and, from what you said, someone who sounds like a really nice girl and who has no idea what she's getting into."

Willow also rolled off the bed and headed for the stairs. "I came here for your advice, Xander – not your judgment. I thought maybe you would understand, but I guess I was wrong."

"Wait…" he called, but Willow had already disappeared up the stairs. "Oh damn."
By the time Willow reached her dormitory hall, she had calmed down. Once in her room, she reached for her phone and dialed Xander. To her disappointment, his answering machine picked up.

"Hi Xander," she said into the phone and paused. "I'm really sorry. I was totally off base. You're right and I will tell Tara, I promise. I just…I just want this one chance to see what it's like, ya know. I mean, am I just kinda gay or all the way gay? And I don't mean I have to sleep with her to find that out, I think I'll just know if I spend some time with her. I'll call you tomorrow and please…don't mention any of this to Anya. I know you have feelings for her and I'm sorry for what I said, but she does have a tendency to blab and no matter what happens, I'm just not ready to…'come out'…I guess. Anyway, I'll talk to you later."

Willow hung up the phone and looked at the mess of clothes still lying on her bed. On top of the pile was a note.
[blockquote]Willow
What's with the scatter? Not like you, O Organized Friend-of-Mine.
Out with Ri tonight, then patrol. Back late, don't worry.
Buff
[/blockquote]At least she didn't have to worry about Buffy tonight, Willow thought. She glanced at the clock and grabbed her robe and headed for the showers to start getting ready for her date.

Skeeter
I think your Willow is a quite logical progression in the evolution of Willow from insecure high school nerd to cool monster fighter college brain. Still essentially insecure - if she wasn't she'd have dumped Oz when the relationship became unsatisfying - she wants to hang on to the security and cachet of dating a musician, but confident enough to want to follow up on this attraction to a woman. In parallel with her magic 'abuse', she'll be sorry later for the hurt she causes both Oz and Tara, but for now she's carried away with the excitement of discovery and the challenge to her abilities. Attending college has enabled Willow, perhaps for the first time, to really exercise her intellectual muscles, and she is revelling in it. It's only natural that she wants the same opportunity to expand the horizons of her emotional and magical senses as well, and that in the excitement her sensitivity to others is (temporarily) buried.

Liked the talk between Willow and Xander. Loving the fic.

What a great interaction with Xander - spot on what I think their conversation would loook like -- in fact, I always thought that Willow would have gone to him first just because they'd been friends so long and she was rooming with the absentee best friend/insens-o buffy that year. So yay on you for making my thoughts into words and writing them down and stuff :D.

Like Ms. Spells42, I also see Willow's eagerness to explore her feelings as a natural progression of her developing sense of self. She kinda does have a track record for mistakes... we all know that she is coming from a good place and is adorable as all get out, but sometimes she gets ahead of herself and people get hurt. Yeah, she's growing away from Oz, and also growing toward Tara... I just hope that she finds a way to minimize the heartbreak there.

I love your story!

Bad Willow, still refuse to make up her mind...
Now I'm really worried about Tara. Xander's right about someone's gonna get hurt, and I so don't wanna it be Tara (not that I want to hurt Oz, but between he or Tara, I'll choose Tara any day).
Still... LET'S HAVE SOME W/T LOVING ALREADY!!!

"No matter what, Willow, you will hurt someone,"

I feel bad for Oz, apart from skipping class and not being "the one" for Willow he hasn't done anything wrong. Everything Willow said about precautions due to his wolfiness, schedules and how
[she] always feel like Oz is holding back somehow

seems to me to be excuses, so that she can move on, to Tara.

I feel even worse for Tara, because she and Willow will have a good time on their date, and she'll have all sorts of hopes. And the longer Willow delays telling her about Oz the more hurt she'll be. Because she will step aside, anyone would.

Willow isn't faring much better. Seems that she has subconsciously decided that Tara is her future, but she hasn't thought through how to handle her existing relationship with Oz. Things with Tara happened so quickly and so smoothly, I'm not surprised that it's a little bit of a mess. This is so realistic, Susan, and yes it's funny how we associate colors with emotions.

first of all thanks for the update i am currently suffering from the worlds biggest hangover (didnt get in till 6 this morning from G-A-Y in London and didnt bother going to bed!!). this has definitely woken me up a little.
secondly, wht an update i'm jumping on the bandwagon to say how much i loved the interaction between Willow and Xander. it was really nice to see that Xander didnt freak out or be judgemental. he just told it like it is and tried to get Willow to realize that someone is going to get hurt.
anyways im off to bed have a 13 hour shift in the morning!
again thanks for the update and :clap for the brilliant writing. keep it up!

I always thought Willow should have talked with Xander about Tara, but she had to be all "No, I want her all for myself." Okay, yeah, starting a kinda gay relationship is scary, but they'd been through so much together. I think when Willow pulled away after the Fluke, she put way too much distance between them. I think Xander was terribly hurt by that. I want my Willow to make it up to him.

You're reading my mind, girl and figuring out what the majority of the next part is.

So yay on you for making my thoughts into words and writing them down and stuff .

I had a really prophetic dream last night and if it comes true, then I'll say yeah, okay I'm psychic and I'm writing what's in your head. But until then, I'm glad we're on the same wavelength.

Now I'm really worried about Tara. Xander's right about someone's gonna get hurt, and I so don't wanna it be Tara (not that I want to hurt Oz, but between he or Tara, I'll choose Tara any day).
Still... LET'S HAVE SOME W/T LOVING ALREADY!!!

... okay, so I'm the impatient one..

Don't they have pills you can take for that now?

seems to me to be excuses, so that she can move on, to Tara.

Again with the mind-reading! Maybe you guys are unconsciously influencing my sub-conscious so that I'm consciously not conscious of what I should be cognizant of?

secondly, wht an update i'm jumping on the bandwagon to say how much i loved the interaction between Willow and Xander. it was really nice to see that Xander didnt freak out or be judgemental. he just told it like it is and tried to get Willow to realize that someone is going to get hurt.

I hope you're over the hangover by now.

Update tomorrow after work. I would do it tonight, but I still need to format it for Pens and since I don't get off until 10:30 (it's now my 'dinner' break) and have to be to work again in the morning at 7:30, Susan is going straight home to bed!

Susan,
As she hung up a khaki colored pair of slacks, she wondered idly if Tara would like her in them. She looked at it a moment and tossed it on her bed and began to rummage through her closet to find a blouse to match the pants. She started pulling clothes out of the closet again

Just me and my voyeuristic nature again as I'd like to see Willow in them or preferably see Tara take them off her.
Willow should know better than to turn to Xander for relationship advice even if he is her oldest and closest friend for two reasons:
1. It's Willow and Tara (see the above Oz who? query)
2. He employs logic and reasoning to a situation where there is only one possible outcome (again, I refer to the aforementioned Oz who? query)
It's not cheating, it's Tara.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

Chances Are Part 4

Postby skeeter451 » Fri Sep 08, 2006 3:44 am

Chances Are
See header for disclaimers.
Part 4
Stutter

Willow nervously checked her appearance in the mirror for the last time. She had finally decided on dark slacks with a pair of low-heeled shoes comfortable for dancing in and a bright green tank top with a darker green wraparound over it, allowing for freedom of movement. She had kept her makeup to a minimum and wore only some amber fragrance and a simple necklace.

After checking her hair, Willow looked into her eyes and froze.

"What are you doing?" she asked. "This is crazy."

She headed for the phone, but as she touched the handset she shook her head and paused.

"Who you gonna call?" she asked aloud.

Tara Maclay, a warm voice replayed in her mind. Willow remembered the feel of Tara inside her mind. It made her wonder how Tara would feel inside her body.

"Oh goddess," she moaned, the fantasy sending jolts of arousal through her body. She shook her head and grabbed her coat off the bed, consciously not looking at the Dingoes poster pinned to the wall.
Willow walked up the steps to Tara's dorm, the butterflies in her stomach turning back into caterpillars, nauseating her even more. She paused at the door and was rudely bumped aside by a muscular guy in an athletic jacket. She sent a scolding frown in the jock's direction, but he ignored her.

"Jerk!" she called.

"Nerd!" the guy tossed back over his shoulder and that's when she belatedly recognized the guy she had to tutor in high school.

A wave of depression washed over her. She was a nerd so why would someone as special as Tara want to go out with her? After her conversation-cum-argument with Xander today she'd realized some things she had been ignoring. She and Oz were growing apart. In high school, they had a lot in common, but even in a small university, they were starting to lose each other. Her interest in magic and his interest in music were at two opposite ends of the spectrum and while couples with different interests could maintain healthy relationships, their common bond – school – was a source of contention between them. Willow was, and always had been, driven to academic success; Oz treated school as a way station to his musical career. However, Willow knew that while he was good, success was a fickle lover in the music industry. Even if he made it, he could become a has-been in a flash and without an education to fall back on, Oz could find himself on hard times.

And as for their sex life, it seemed like it too was starting to fizzle out. They hadn't made love for weeks now. Between Oz's practice sessions and classes and her Wiccan group meetings and Scooby stuff, they hadn't had time to hook up. And Willow didn't like sleeping over at the house Oz shared with his band mates…with the exception of Oz's room, the place was none-too-clean and noisy with odd folks coming in and out at all hours – definitely not conducive to study or sleep or romance. Except for class, they rarely saw each other.

And lately, Oz was avoiding the Scooby meetings and patrols. The demons in town were all wary of the commando group and while Oz was human most of the time, he did turn into a demon three nights a month and common sense told him that any group who could shove a behavior-modification chip in William the Bloody's skull was best avoided. So he kept himself scarce and while they missed him, the Slayer and her Scoobies understood.

Willow noted that Oz did try to make up for his absence in different ways. He called her often and left her cute emails. He flirted with her, loving it when she blushed and he was caring and attentive when they were together.

So Willow had no reason to question her relationship with Oz, content that they could continue as they had and together make it over the rough patch. And while she had privately recognized her attraction to girls for what it meant a long time ago, she had never had any urge to act on that attraction – until now.

"Willow?" a familiar voice asked.

Willow looked up to see the door swinging behind Tara as the blonde walked toward her. "Oh, hey," she said.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," she answered, feeling lame, but noting how Tara's appearance was causing her heart to race. Tara had on a long-sleeved tie-dyed Henley and dark cargo pants along with her cute clunky boots. "Well, a little chilly, but good for me I wore my coat."

Tara frowned. "I saw you come up the walk from my window, but when you didn't knock I became worried."

"Oh," Willow said and bit her lip in chagrin. "Sorry."

"Come here," Tara said and gently pulled Willow away from the swinging door and passing students. "What's wrong? You're all scattered."

"You can sense emotions?" Willow asked.

"Just y-yours," Tara replied and looked down at their joined hands. "Can't you?"

Willow concentrated a moment and felt it. A low hum-buzz from Tara that she recognized from their earlier encounter in the laundry room. Through the connection, she could feel happiness, anticipation and stronger, worry.

"Yeah, I can," she said. "Wow."

"Are you okay?" Tara asked again.

"I'm fine," Willow said, realizing that all of her earlier worries were moot now that Tara was here. Then she remembered. "Percy called me a nerd!"

"Who?"

"Some jerk jock I tutored in high school," she replied.

"You're n-not a nerd, Willow," Tara said.

"Darn tootin'," she said with an emphatic nod. "At least…not anymore."

Tara added, "And someone named Percy s-should not be calling anyone a nerd."

They stood looking at each other for a moment, Willow entranced by how Tara's eyes glowed from the sodium-arc lights illuminating the sidewalk. Finally, she asked, "Ready to go?"

Tara nodded, then pointed back toward the door. "I just need to get my coat…it is a bit chilly. Wait here?"

Willow nodded and watched Tara rush away. She put her hands in the pockets of her coat and bounced on her feet in anticipation.
The dance was held in a large community room in Turner Hall. A table was set outside the open double doors. Willow recognized the girl who took her cash and gave back change and two tickets.

"That'll get you a free soft drink inside. After that they're fifty cents a can," Paula told Willow. "No booze…grrr."

"Thanks," Willow said. The two girls turned and as they went through the doors, Willow handed Tara her ticket. "Did she just growl at me?" she whispered to her companion.

Tara giggled and nodded. "She always does that, but only with people she likes. So consider yourself special."

The community room reminded Willow of the Bronze on a weekend night, and with the exception of a small group of guys hanging out near the DJ, the crowd consisted of women of every age, type and style.

"Wow!" Willow exclaimed. "I didn't realize there were so many…" She paused as she realized she was about to put her foot in her mouth.

Tara smirked. "Lesbians in Sunnydale?" she concluded.

"Yeah," Willow blushed but smiled at Tara. "But I didn't think the Lesbian Alliance had so many members."

"Not everyone here belongs to the group," Tara explained. "Many p-people come just to dance. A lot belong to the Gay/Straight Alliance, and those boys over there are in the Gay Men's Chorus. They also sponsored the event.

"I heard them sing at Freshman Orientation…they're good," Willow said. "But shouldn't there be more of them?"

Tara nodded. "M-most of the guys prefer to go to the club in t-town. You know – The R-red Oyster? They like it more private."

"Yeah, I've heard of that place," Willow said. It was the only gay bar in Sunnydale and the most popular after the Bronze. The gang had patrolled near it during the summer of the missing Slayer. "More private?" Willow asked, scrunching her face in confusion. She had assumed it was just like the Bronze – only gayer.

"You've never been there?" Tara asked.

"Me!" Willow squeaked. "No…you?"

Tara shook her head. "Too s-shy to go," she said. "But Stefanie told me that it has p-private rooms in the back. Not many w-women use them, but the boys do. That's how it got its n-nickname."

"Nickname?"

"The B-big O," Tara said and blushed sweetly.

Willow giggled along with Tara and thought she had never seen anyone look more adorable. Feeling bold she said, "Then maybe we'll go there someday soon."

Tara's blush deepened, but she smiled and nodded. "I'd…I'd like t-that," she finally said.

Willow smiled back and as they headed for the drink table to get their free cans of pop, Willow congratulated herself for successfully flirting with Tara. When they moved over to sit at a table to take a drink, Mia came over to greet them.

"Hey girls," she said. "Having fun?"

"We j-just got h-here," Tara said.

"But I'd say from the crowd, it's a roaring success," Willow put in.

"Yeah, things are a-hoppin'," the tall woman said looking around. Then she looked back at them and Willow again got the feeling she was being appraised. Finally, Mia nodded and said. "Tara, don't worry about your shift for the ticket table, I'll get Stef to take care of it."

Tara looked surprised. "A-are you s-sure?"

"Yeah…you just have a good time," Mia said and smiled. "Later!"

Willow watched as Mia walked away. Then she turned to Tara and said, "I didn't know you had to work tonight."

"Just volunteered to spend an hour at the table," Tara said. "I didn't t-think you'd mind."

"Of course not," Willow said and then thought of something. "Tara, can I ask you something?"

Tara paused a moment and then simply nodded.

"I noticed you seem to…" Willow paused and then continued. "You seem to stutter more when other folks are around. Why is that?"

Tara was silent for a long moment and Willow was afraid she had insulted her friend. "I'm sorry," Willow hastily interjected. "I really like your stutter and it's really cute and I'm really sorry."

Tara smiled. "You think it's c-cute?" she asked.

Willow nodded. "Uh, yeah?" she said. "Kinda dorky, I know, but it's just…you know, cute."

"Thank you," Tara said. "I stutter when I'm nervous," she admitted. "And I get nervous around people, but I'm not as n-nervous around you."

Willow's chest filled with happiness. "Wow," she whispered. "That's great. I mean, I'm comfortable around you, too."

"Good," Tara said. "Because, I think you're c-cute, too."

Willow looked into Tara's wonderful eyes and she opened her mouth to say something, but for a moment was at a loss for words. Finally she asked, "Wanna dance?"

Tara nodded and took Willow's hand as they walked toward the dance floor. Willow marveled at the tingles running up her arm and down to her…

Oh boy, Rosenberg, she thought. You've got it bad!

Well I would jump up and down about how this is going if it wasn't for the entire Oz=BOYFRIEND thing. But that thing kind of makes me want to shake Willow and yell at her or something. I don't know whether to be more offended on Tara's behalf or Oz's.

Man, talk about some successful flirting.

Willow's got to tell Tara the truth before she messes everything up.

Awww...That's so cute. All of Tara's lesbian friends approve of Willow. I do wonder how the girls will build a relationship after Tara finds out about Oz though. I mean, she's obviously already smitten with Willow, and if she thinks that Willow is just playing around with her it could cause some serious damage. However, I have faith in you (this is the Kitten board after all) and I look forward to seeing how you handle the situation. More updates soon please!

i love this story. absolutely love it. i agree with all the people who said that hiding Oz is gonna be a problem...well, duh. secrets are never good. but of course they're gonna end up together....we love happy endings.

i don't agree with watty though....i mean, i can't feel sorry for Oz. maybe cause i'm a bad, bad person who doesn't care who get hurt if she can see W and T together :P

i want to see more of the dance.....i want to see how buffy reacts....i want to see smoochies :P

and i think i'll stop being demanding now :P anyway, great update, and please continue soon :-D

So sweet, but, oh dear what a mess it's going to be when Tara and Oz find out about each other.

I liked how you used the moment with Percy (jerk!) to show how shaky Willow's new confidence is, and how Tara has the power to so easily restore it. So cute.

Oh dear, oh dear, I'm cringing in anticipation. But really enjoying the story!

I like how Willow has begun to rationalize her feelings for Tara and more importantly analyzing her relationship with Oz. Still feels a little like she's trying to come up with excuses for the impending failure of their relationship. The growing apart and the having no common interests, these didn't happen overnight. I'm not trying to be harsh on Willow, I do think that she's reaching the point where she has to make a decision, though she's probably made that choice already. Because she did set up another date, to the Red Oyster.

Again loving Tara's friends and how sensitive they are, giving the girls maximum time together.

Now I'm going to use my subconscious mind-reading power and say that they'll either kiss, or almost kiss, or want to kiss so badly during their dance. Well, if I can't influence your sub-conscious I can always wish can't I.

I know angst is coming, but I still can't wait. Thanks, Susan.

I was really drawn in by Willow and Tara's interaction during the dance -- the discussion of Tara's stutter, the Red Oyster, the appraising friends.... it seemed like a very authentic interaction (and the flirting was too sweet for words!).

I love how Willow and Tara fit eachother -- and it is really sweet and nice to see that interest blossom.

I can see how Willow feels about Oz -- and agree that they have grown apart. That is just what happens some times. It is not something she was looking for, but it happened -- Willow is attracted to someone else. The lesson to be learned here is about how to navigate this situation that is clearly going to hurt *someone*. I have always felt like Willow really does have a clear sense of morality and goodness, but that she was lacking in social maturity. Her parents were never around, and she was an only child, so I guess it is not unreasonable to assume that this sort of thing was not modeled for her... but when she screws up, she feels so terribly! The guilt weighs on her, and it is not healthy. Plus my wee little Tara/Willow lovin' heart wants them to start their relationship on a high ground -- but I am thinking that would make for a very short and less interesting story!

I am glad that she spoke with Xander last chapter, and I hope that she takes some of that to heart!

I am loving your story!

Aww that was a really sweet update from which I hope the next part starts off from - cause damit they should get to dance and :wtkiss at the party!

But, sigh, I see trouble ahead for Will if she doesn't explain about herself and Oz soon, because I think he's either gonna turn up in person or someone else is gonna mention him while Tara is there.

And that will be damage that's hard to fix.

Look forward to seeing how you are gonna handle it.

Susan,
While all of Willow's successful flirting is adorable and comforting to witness, it does make me wonder how much further down the primrose path will she lead Tara before the whole "oh yeah, Oz" issue rears its fanged and furry head and she has to tell him that she has had a moment of clarity and belongs with Tara.
Come here," Tara said and gently pulled Willow away from the swinging door and passing students. "What's wrong? You're all scattered."

This intimate scene between the two of them draws out more of their connection which was cemented by the skin on skin contact in the laundry room.
It shows that they are empathic and in tune with each other's biorythms on a primal level.
Tara, being Tara, can sense something is amiss but Willow takes advantage of Percy's diversion to smokescreen the real problem.
That's a tough one to judge, however.
If I had the chance for some quality Tara time where there would be flirting and the possibility was good for some smoochies, would I conveniently forget there was someone else for the evening?
You're G D right I would.

Postby skeeter451 » Wed Sep 13, 2006 9:22 pm

Not an update, my friends. Just some worrisome news about Mrs. Skeeter451...

Tamie was admitted to Broward General Medical Center last night. Today she spent in ICU. There are many problems and she's listed as "very critical." I don't know what that means, but she's very sick and I'm terrified I'm gonna lose her.

This is an update message I sent to my personal friends:

The surgery Tamie had tonight was called a "pericardial window" which means they cut an opening in her chest to drain the accumulated fluid around her heart. They needed to do that immediately because her heart rate continued to fall. I found out today one can go mad watching the vital signs monitor. I watched hers for nearly 12 hours today and she started to go into bradycardia (low heart beats per min) the closer she got to surgery. Afterwards, her heart rate was much stronger.

They're also giving her medicine to raise her blood pressure as well as sedatives to keep her under so they're playing a delicate balancing game.

She's got some kind of infection because she's got septicemia (so they've given her lots of whole blood and plasma…if you can, donate blood…the bag they gave her after surgery came from Denver, so it matters not where you live, it all goes into the same system), and they're not sure if the infection is coming from the lung or the liver. The CT scan showed a "mass" on the right lung, but they're not sure if it's infection, fluid or a tumor. They were going to put a tube in there, but they needed to stabilize her heart first. They'll do that tomorrow.

As for the liver, there is some kind of abscess and they're going to do a CT-guided drainage tomorrow. Liver damage from her psychiatric medication is the usual suspect.

And they'll test the various fluids they find in her and the more they test, the more we'll know. All day long I've been feeling like I was in a really bad episode of House. I kept expecting ol Housey to come limping into the room and start yelling in Tamie's catatonic face, "So, what'd you do…swallow the dental dam while eating your girlfriend's cunt?"

So, what brought all this on? She's been ill with what her primary diagnosed as bronchitis for over a month now…and…she's a heavy smoker and a breast-cancer survivor. She also has a severe mental condition which normally is controlled nicely by her medication, but she has been having a major depressive episode for at least two weeks. She's taken off work, which I was happy about because it would allow her body a rest and hopefully heal. This Sunday morning we got up early and we were both excited because I had the following two days off and with our roommate gone, we had the house to ourselves. But by Sunday afternoon, she was acting strangely. She withdrew and would only answer "yes" or shake her head to questions. She didn't eat or drink even though I tried to get to do both. I did manage to get her to go to the bathroom and take her anti-psychotic meds. But know she has told me ahead of time that all these are symptoms of a psychotic episode. She said if she gets in that state, be positive, tell her what I need her to do like get her up and lead her to the bathroom and she'll do it.

Monday was not only a holiday, but her psychiatrist was doing hospital rounds all day instead of office visits. She slept most of Monday, only got up to use the bathroom and once she sat in the living room for almost a half hour before going back to bed. I fell asleep around midnight and woke up at 2:30. Tamie by this time was totally unresponsive. If you say her name, she'll just look at you and smile back. It was a mild form of catalepsy. I finally got a hold of the shrink's office manager on Tuesday. Because I'm not listed as a contact in her records, he won't talk to me, but Danielle was trying to arrange go get Tamie admitted to the nearby hospital for mental and addiction issues. But because Tamie is not responding and unable to respond to questions, she can't admit herself. So, that left calling 9-1-1 and having her taken to Broward General Medical Center. She spent a lot of time in the ER and then finally was moved to ICU.

The social worker spoke to Ida, Tamie's mother who lives in California and over the phone with witnesses; she gave permission to Alex and I to make medical decisions for Tamie if she is unable to do it for herself. That includes up to and including the worst.

So, the pericardia window only took about a half hour to do. Most of the time was prep and clean up. Her evening shift nurse got her cleaned up, organized and arranged all the tubes shoving stuff in and more tubes pulling stuff out. I had a couple of bad moments. Sit in a freezing cold hospital for hours at a time, huddled in a jacket and you take one look at the love of your life with various bodily fluids like blood, drool, urine, whatever that stuff that was around her heart was, and the stuff going in like saline solution, morphine, potassium, sedative and something I think is for her pressure and the forehead starts to bead up with sweat, thinking gets rather confused and I suddenly feel the need to bend the knees and quickly now before I end up on my ass.

So, I had a couple of close calls and nearly passed out twice. Now don't get me wrong…I have had a long and loving appreciation of the various wonders of Tamie's body fluids. But the fluids that I entice are due to a long and loving process, not the invasive demands of the medical field. I imagine we're each professionals of our own craft.

When visiting hours ended, I said goodnight. She was barely conscious, in some pain, but the morphine was starting to kick in. I told her I loved her and squeezed her head and then made her hair as pretty as I could. When she's back to normal, she's gonna be mega-pissed that they removed her nipple ring and clit-hood stud. I look forward to putting them back for her.

Of course, I blame myself. I should have forced her to get better care for the cough and not waited so long to get a chest x-ray done. I should have made sure she took the natural homeopathy products I bought her especially the colloidal silver which is a natural anti-biotic. I bought them for her, she just wouldn't take it. "They taste NASTY!" I bought her elixirs and syrups and potions to help strengthen the respiratory system. "They taste NASTY!" And I thought about pushing it, but then got despondent because what good are they gonna do if she's smoking two packs a day? And then I kick myself for not being more pushy when it came to getting her to quit. So then I'd buy her Pomegranate juice and blueberry juice and other juices high in anti-oxidants to hopefully reduce the risk of all those carcinogenetic free-radicals would get a foot hole in side her…especially since she already survived cancer once and cancer survivors then fly off the risk charts table.

Pass it on. I find my support among my friends and it matters not that you are scattered all over the world. You guys were there when my mother and then my grandmother passed so I know you'll be with me through this crisis. I love you all.

Oh, and give blood. And tell everyone to give blood. It's karma. Tamie needs it right now, she's a rare type A+, which means that only people with A type or O type can donate for her. Fortunately, I'm O+ so I'll donate some blood tomorrow. There are other people out there who need it just as much. Tomorrow, you or I may need it. So go out there and get PRICKED!
