I love Spencer and Ashley! They are so cute. This ep was disappointing me until the end. I just wish they'd make out and get it over with.

Is it me or was Glen actually PIMPING out his sister!?! I"M GLAD Spencer finally came clean with Aiden this ep, it was cleaning me watching her flirt with a guy she was obviously not interested in all season long. I was kinda surprised by Aiden this ep. Liked how he just knew Spencer really didn't want to be there and didn't let her make a mistake she'd regret in the morning. Also liked Spencer's reaction when she heard that other girl on Ashley's phone-didn't get angry or upset but just wanted to quickly get over there before Ashley made the same mistake she almost made.

I finally watched all the eps for this show (spent a lot of time downloading them because I hadn't visited this thread and didn't know about the youtube thing). It is such a guilty pleasure! The show itself is kind of awkward. It's like, you're watching teens, but you forget that because they're involved in such, I don't know, adult situations. I suppose it's a more realistic depiction of todays teen than we get on other shows, but it's kind of disturbing at the same time.

I can't say I'm a big fan of the acting, and I remain completely confused about Ashley and her motivation for half the stuff she does. If I were Spencer I think I'd kick her in the shins out of frustration. Spencer seems to be a young woman trying to figure out who she is, and looking to someone whom she thinks is more defined, but Ashley...well, she appears to lack definition, which I guess is a good message, but confusing to a confused person. :confused

I'm looking forward to the season finale. I hope there's some kind of resolution, no huge between-season cliffhanger.

Wow-don't know how they packed so much angst into a thirty min. show but they did it. Loved Spencer in this ep, now that she knows what she wants, Ashley, screw anyone that has a problem with that. From her many PDA's at school(how cute was that hug) to her sticking in there when Ashley was trying to push her away. And the ending was the greatest. Can't wait til sesason 2, i expect some of Ashley's long list of exes to show up.

To make it short, I like the show.

It's targeted at a younger audience and for that it's working quite well.

I finally saw the season finale and it didn't disappoint. I loved the part where Ashley wants to see Spencer's "life line" on her palm so she can "see how long" Spencer's going to "be around." So freakin' cute! And then the part at the end (aside from the kiss which basically melted my computer screen) when Spence says she can take care of herself and "have a little bit left over" to take care of Ash.... :x

I love this show! The acting quality really has gotten better through the course of the season. I cannot wait for Season 2, but of course I'm expecting some angst for my favorite couple.

Finally got around to d/ling this show since I can guarantee it will never even get picked up in New Zealand (although you'd be surprised at some of the crap that does get aired here! Twins? Stacked? Yrrrgh! They can stay on US TV!)
I have to say this show is fantastic, okay, acting not the greatest - although this is mostly directed at all the members of the cast except Ashley and Spencer cos they so damn cute. The guy that plays Glen is awful. And there's a whole lot of other stuff that isnt perfect either but to cut to the chase its about teenage girls being gay...and thats fantastic. I wish the next season wasnt so far away!!!!
My girlfriend doesnt like it cos there's no sex - even after I explained that its directed at a younger audience. She's happily gone back to watching the L word. I don't really think there's much to compare between the two shows - it's just good to actually have options when it comes to lesbian shows on TV!
It's cute, hopefully there's more smooching in the next season.

Aww, this show can be so cute. It's quite entertaining, even if it doesn't reflect the average teenage life.
I just discovered it on www.youtube.com , which everyone should check out. Just type in 'south of nowhere', and the entire first season is there. And they don't even take that long to download. Not the best picture, but the sound is good, and it's not that bad.
So, if you're looking for teenage fluff with decent writing, check this out!

I watched all of season one two weeks ago. The show had some really good points but at other times it made me scream 'AHH what the hell are you doing?!'. I'm curious what kind of drama will happen in season two now that ashley and spencer are done skirting around each other.

No doubt there will be massive coming out issues to deal with, it's hard being out and proud at high school, god knows I never was.

I also expect their to be parental issues with this, what parent doesnt struggle with the fact that their child is gay?
and of course the inevitable relationship issues of trust, committment etc etc, I expect some of Ashley's past girlfriends to show up.

They there's the whole Glen hurt his knee storyline and Clay finding his birth mother, like we care, they should really just ditch those and make the whole show about Ashley and Spencer.

Why oh why do we have to wait until October?!!!

I feel like a rollercoaster ride. Last season left us on such a good Spashley note; I'm terrified of what's going to happen this season. Has anyone seen the promo where
Spencer is crying and it seems like Paula's kicking Ashley out of the house, and Spencer says, "I love her! I just wanna be with her." Heartbreak.
I only hope this season brings on more Spashley and doesn't revert to Ashley's weird pushing-Spencer-awayness. I do enjoy these two together.

Great promos. I really love this show. It's one of the few shows I am actually looking forward to this year.

I looked around and found some huge spoilers. Looking at what other people have said on other boards, it seems like they are legit, if so, then it should be an great season.
-Ashley's dad dies
-he splits the will w Kyla, Ashleys half sister
-Ashley doesn't like Kyla
-Glen gets addicted to pain killers and buys them illegally off the street
-Spencer knows but promises to keep it a secret as long as Glen doesn't tell about her relationship w Ashley.
-Glen gets busted by the cops.
-Spencer's mom invites a friend of Spencers, Debbie, over from Ohio as a ploy from Ashley
-Debbie makes fun of gay people in front of Ashley and Spencer. Ashley kisses Spencer in front of Debbie and then walks out
-There is a fight between a gay boy and a straight boy at school and Spencer gets pulled into it. She cuts her head.
-Ashley buys her a teddy bear w a bandage on it's head
-Clay is mad at his birth mother
-Aiden and Kyla get involved
I wanted to post the last spoiler by itself because it's what will make the season so good. So if you want to know this spoiler without being spoiled for most of the major storylines, here you go:
-Ashley and Spencer stay together all season
There's a moment when I look at you. And no speech is left in me.
My tongue breaks, then fire races under my skin.
And I tremble, and grow pale. For I am dying of such love.

personally i don't see the big deal with SoN. i find the acting from the cast suckass except spencer and maybe ashley. the script's predictable and linear. although spence and ash have, yes, great chemistry but only as friends; i can't see their passion for each other. their kisses are so...bleh. actually found myself going "oh, you can do better than that!" i mean, they don't seem to want want the other, like jump on bones kinda. they're, what, 15? hormones charged, man! okay, yeah, maybe, they're young and confused and unsure therefore hesitant. but still, you're kissing someone you really like; it can't be that cardboard! find it boring overall.

ah, two good things: spence and matt cohen's cutenesses (individually), and a girl couple as center-stage that'll prolly, hopefully, have a happy ending.

EDIT: on the other hand, i've developed/developing a crush on spencer, so i guess i'll have to stick around SoN. ;D~

It's not a great show, but what is great is what it represents, a teen show which is usually centered around a couple is centered on a little lesbian couple. It's something completely new.

a friend just introduced me to this show yesterday - it's kind of gross when i think about it, two 28-year-old chicks cracking coronas and watching the mating rituals of california teenagers. but anyway, i'm a sucker for teenybopper dramas (i cut my teeth on 90210 when i was 12) but i was in no way prepared for a teenybopper drama with cute lesbians on a nickelodeon -like channel! whoa. maybe the acting and writing isn't emmy-worthy, but it's a cool little show with addictive characters and story-lines (vanessa huxtable as a teenage mom!!) and i'm definitely a fan.

(and after i silently and shamefully drooled over that spencer chick for a while, my friend was kind enough to let me know that she's like 22 and it's okay to lust openly.)

someone has mentioned already that you can watch the episodes on youtubebut you can also watch the season two premiere on "the click" on the-n.

Two episodes in and it's looking good so far. Sure, it's not the best show out there but since the main couple is Spencer and Ashley, I can love it. They are too cute together.

I love Spencer's dad, hate her mom. Love Clay, hate Glen. I started to like Aiden at the end of last season, but so far this season, he's a real jerk. He tried to kiss Ashley knowing full well that she's with Spencer and after she reminded him of that fact, he tried again. Asshole! And Ashley finds out she has a sister, and he goes for her right away. Real nice.

I really liked the scene where Ashley came out to Clay's girlfriend, Chelsea. It was really sweet. And Clay being fine with it and helping her get the tape back, at least she has one good brother.

I'm happy the new season is here and hopefully, I'll enjoy it a lot.

Yay south of nowhere is back! I still like the show a lot. Ash and spence are so cute. I am sad they killed Ash's dad cause um hello Poison but also because Ashley isn't just enjoying spencer right now.

Anyway, I hate Aiden, hate him and his ego.

Spence's mom is a bitch, and she's only projecting her imperfections on others.

Spence's dad and clay are very cool but her other brother yes, needs to go!!

you all should read the commentaries for this show on http://www.afterellen.com - they are absolutely hysterical (my favorite is the grinch-like bit about spencer's mom in the episode where they knock off cc deville).

The new episode was great. Very cute scene at the petting zoo but once again, Aiden ruins a great moment. I really liked that the girls finally talked about the whole Ashley obsessing over Aiden and Kyla thing. They needed to bury that real quick. It was getting very annoying.

Great scene with Ashley and her mom. I had always thought they were never close, but it looks like it’s only been that way since Ashley came out. And the final scene was very sweet. Ashley told her that she doesn’t have any feelings for Aiden but only for her (so cute) and Spencer talked about needing to come out to her parents.

I didn't think it was possible but my hatred for Spencer's mom is even greater now. What a royal bitch. I can't wait for Spencer to come out.

Next weeks episode looks really interesting. Looks like my extreme dislike of Glen will be growing in this one. But there should be some great Spashley moments.

Last night’s episode was also a great one. The pool scene at the beginning was fun, of course it would have been much more fun if Glen was not there. What an ass.

Poor Spencer really got a nice shiner at school, but the teddy bear that Ashley got her was too cute. Ashley carrying Spencer’s books was also sweet, they’re just too adorable.

I cannot believe what Glen told Clay at the hospital. What a scumbag. I’m really glad Clay jumped him. To bad he didn’t break his nose or something.

The last scene with the girls was really sweet. A nice make up scene.

The next episode is in two weeks, so that sucks. But it should be good. Spencer’s old friend seems like a real bitch. No wonder Paula likes her.

spencer was so cute with her shiner. and though i do have to admit i liked it when ashley got all butch with the gay boy on spencer's behalf (and of course when she carried her books), she pretty much drives me crazy in every other respect. she's just so unpleasant and bitchy ALL THE TIME. as a bitch myself, i can definitely appreciate that quality in others, but i just feel like screaming: there's a time and place ms. davies! and her weird aidan/kayla issues are beyond old. rarely do we see the girls actually being nice and cute with each other... i think i liked them better in the leadup to their relationship.

and while on the subject about annoying things on last night's show: glen is such a douchebag. really. he has not demonstrated a single redeeming quality to date. i can't believe he pulled the "my sister" thing on clay, who is such a good, decent kid. hopefully glen will od or something.

and another thing, why is aiden in almost every single webisode? who do you have to blow around the-n to get a spencer centered webisode? maybe one with extra makeout or something (you know, where hands and/or hair aren't covering all the action).

i watched the episode with my best friend who'd never seen the show and she just laughed and repeatedly stated how bad the acting was. i agree, of course, but even she had to admit the storylines were pretty compelling. i can't believe we have to wait two weeks for the next episode. grr.

I know what you mean. All these webisodes with Aiden are sickening. Enough already!

Here are the one coming up, for November. The last one I put in spoiler code because it has to do with the fallout from an upcoming episode.

SOUTH OF NOWHERE WEBISODES
Launches Friday, Nov. 3
"Imitate"
With all the girls in Aiden's life together in one room, the truth comes out. So do the pillows.

Launches Friday, Nov. 10
"Alone Together"
Eavesdrop on some private Spencer/Ashley QT.

Launches Friday, Nov. 17
"Desperate"
Spoiler:
The closest Ashley can get to Spencer is the street outside of her house—and even that's too close for Glen.

Finally, some Spashley webisodes! The last two should be really great. The first one might be good, but only if they're not all together to talk about Aiden. If it's all about Aiden then it will be like the rest of the other ones with him, it will suck.

i don't know about it airing in the UK, but you can download all of the episodes (the entire first season and all of the episodes that have aired thus far in season two) on itunes.

does anyone know how many episodes season two is going to have? i hope it's more than the paltry ten episodes of the first season.

can't wait for the new episode on friday and for the webisodes - thanks for posting those summaries lucian!

There are thirteen. Here are the summaries for the remaining ones. I put them in spoiler code just in case anyone doesn't want to know anything at all about the remaining episodes.

Spoiler:
Episode 206, "That Is So Not Mom"
Clay's past surfaces when his birth mother moves into town. As he's reeling from the news, Chelsea tells him a secret that could tear apart his future. Spencer has problems with her own past when an old friend from Ohio brings out a side of her that Ashley's never seen. Meanwhile, Glen can barely handle the present as his dependence on pain pills gets worse.

Episode 207, "Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are"
Spencer loves Ashley, and she's sick of hiding it. She decides to come out to her parents, whether they're ready to hear it or not. While Clay tries to help Chelsea cope with their future, Glen risks destroying his own when his drug addiction spirals out of control.

Episode 208, "That's The Way The World Crumbles"
Paula can't deal with the fact that her daughter's in love with another girl. When she cuts off Spencer from Ashley, she unintentionally drives Spencer away from her family. Aiden tries to bond with Ashley over their relationship problems, but Madison would prefer he lean on her.

Episode 209, "Objects May be Closer Than They Appear"
With life getting out of hand at home, Spencer and Ashley try to escape. Kyla heads back to town to find Aiden waiting to confront her about her lies. And when Chelsea's secret is discovered, she picks up sympathy from the lat person she expects

Episode 210, "Love and War and Love and War"
Arthur looks for a way to bring his shattered family back together, so Glen suggests a time-tested way for healing emotional wounds: a paintball war! With Spencer caught on the family battlefield, Ashley spends more time with Aiden. He's still "just friends" with Kyla, thanks to Madison, who's about to take a full-on karma smackdown.

Episode 211, "Love, Child and Videotape"
Spencer and Ashley have been together for months, and they couldn't be happier. Or could they? When an old tape of Ashley and Aiden surfaces, it looks like she might have been way happier back then. Meanwhile, Clay and Chelsea both come to a decision about their future. Too bad it's not the same decision.

Episode 212, "Too Many Girls, Not Enough Aiden"
Aiden's feeling the pressure from all the different women in his life. Madison, Kyla, Ashley and Spencer all want something from him. It seems that in order to make one of them happy, he has to hurt another. His friendship with Ashley's driving her and Spencer apart, and there's so much estrogen around him that Aiden finds himself turning to the one person he can't stand.

Episode 213, "Trouble in Paradise"
On prom night, Clay and Chelsea look for one last evening of happiness, while Glen goes to drastic measures looking for a purpose to his life. Madison's losing her marbles, and Aiden might lose all the women in his life thanks to one shocking secret.

After all the hoopla this week over this episode I have to say I was really disappointed. This is the big coming out episode, so of course this would be a huge Spashley centric episode right? Wrong.

The straddle scene was very hot but it was cut down to almost nothing. In the promo for this episode you can see Ashley getting on top of Spencer, but in the actual episode, that’s gone. And we didn’t even get a kiss. I mean come on! Are you kidding me?

I am getting really tired of this whole Spashley getting interrupted every single time they have an intimate moment thing they have been doing all season long. It’s really pathetic. This not showing them as a real couple crap is really starting to get on my nerves. Everyone else gets real kisses and sexy scenes but the girls get kisses that last almost a second (if you can even see it that is) and they get to sit close to each other and maybe even touch a knee. Ooohhh sexy! :happy

If you’re not going to show them as a real couple, than why even do a show like this to begin with?

I know, I know. It’s better to have a show like this air than not have it at all but it still irritates the hell out of me.

A friend of mine was telling me she puts the blame squarely on The N and I agree with her. But it still irks me that they decided to air this show to begin with, and yet don’t have the cojones to follow through. I saw this post at a Spashley board, and since it’s exactly how I feel, I’ll post it here.

this is simply an issue of representation: lesbians and gay men have been invisible in mainstream media for years, and now that honest depictions of them are finally starting to crop up, they're being desexualized to become "safe" for suburban America. Sex, or intimacy in general, certainly isn't everything, but it is there, and it's sad to see a show that has proven how brave it's willing to be in its depicting of Spencer and Ashley's relationship become skittish when it comes to actually making them appear to be a couple. To be blunt, it feels cowardly. Who do Tom Lynch and co. think they're going to offend that they haven't already?

Seriously, who are they afraid to offend that they haven't already? I really don't get it.

There were some cute scenes though, the post straddle talk between Spashley (once creepy Aiden left) then when Ashley told Spencer to practice on her coming out to her parents, gave us the best line of the night…You guys are both gonna burn in hell. Would you pass the potatoes please? :lol

The best part was the new webisode. The Spashely webisode. It was so cute. The way Ash says Spencer! at the end, after Spencer showed her where she’d put her tattoo :lol
And Ashley silently mouthing I love you :heart (I remember a certain cute redhead doing the same thing :wink)
There's a moment when I look at you. And no speech is left in me.
My tongue breaks, then fire races under my skin.
And I tremble, and grow pale. For I am dying of such love.
