Yeah, some people don't have a smiley face like Amber. Better his own natural expression than a terrible fake smile, and anyway he's a nice guy whether he smiles or not.

There have been some really lovely pics of Amber recently. Thanks to everyone for posting them.

You aren't. People who like the programs tend to think of the characters, when they see the performer, e.g: typecast. It's not hard to, considering a favorite.

Let's try this again, Wolfgirl: I respect Amber Benson as an actor, find it mildly odd that she hangs with a guy whose role on TV killed her character to much outcry, and otherwise do not much care how she lives her life. It's hers to live; my interest is not in her personal life, which has no bearing on mine, just on her roles, which are always interesting and provide me some happiness when I watch them. My comment about Adam Busch is that in pics he never smiles. So what? Where is that any criticism of Amber Benson?

And I say this with some asperity, I take offense that you think I can't tell the difference between real life and TV show (at least I think your comment was aimed at me). You have utterly no cause to make such a comment, and I am surprised the mods haven't called you on that.

My comment was intended for you Dana, and I'm happy to try again! Maybe I misunderstood what squick meant, it sounded kind of rude, Amber put it much better herself when she said it was ironic.I didn't mean to imply you were criticising Amber, just disrepecting her relationship with Adam. I'm not sure we should be discussing it anyway, so I'm happy for the mod to delete this, should they in their wisdom deem it necessary.

I am leaving out the more unpleasant definitions on Wikipedia, but this is what matters:

Squick is also commonly used in fanfiction to refer to any topic covered in the writing that might cross the average person's tolerance/comfort boundaries, as well as to convey one's personal discomfort with material that others might not find objectionable. Common "squicks" range from particular romantic pairings, sexual orientation, dynamics within pairings, and specific sexual acts to character death, violence, rape, and even non-canonical characterizations. Authors generally preface their stories with warnings (see Slash fiction#Content Ratings and Warnings) for the benefit of the easily-squickable.

Dawn and Giles would squick me. Willow and Tara does not, of course. Amber and Adam do only because of the roles they played. In real life, as I have said, I do not care. Capisce?

Hmmmm, very intersting. That's the same thing I was thinking, referring to Amber and Adam. It's just weird. =)

As one of the "older" kittens, (older than you, Dana- I think :!: ), I'm going to chime in here and say that I agree with Dana5140 and Tarababy77 about Amber and Adam.
However, having said that, I adore Amber the person and the actress, and I wish her nothing but happiness and success in life.

PErsonally, I find it a bit of giggle, but then (as I think I told Dana once on another board) I have an appetite for irony that is soemtimes is little unhealthy.
While I've commented about the non-smiling myself I think Amber can make an enitre picture shimmer no matter who else is in it.

See, that's how I always feel. :-)

Anyway, Ponette- one of the greatest movies you never saw. Rent it, buy it, but see it- it has one of the great acting jobs of all time- by a young child!

This is OT, of course, so forgive me:

Ponette
Year Released: 1996
Directed By: Jacques Doillon
Starring: Claire Nebout, Xavier Beauvois, Marie Trintignant, Delphine Schlitz, Matiaz Bureau, Victoire Thivisol
(NR, 92 min.)

Ponette accomplishes something that's quite rare and extraordinary in the field of storytelling: This exceptional French film authentically gets inside the mind of a 4-year-old child and shows us the world from her point of view. And young Ponette (Thivisol) has more than her fair share of trauma to deal with. A sudden car accident has caused her mother's death and left Ponette's arm broken (the limb remains in a cast throughout the entire movie). As the film opens, Ponette is lying in a hospital bed as her compassionate but bereft father (Beauvois) tries to explain that mommy simply may be too broken to fix. Needing to deal with his own grief, Ponette's father temporarily leaves his daughter in the care of her aunt who lives in the country with her two children: a boy approximately Ponette's age and a girl who appears to be a couple of years older. Ponette refuses to believe that her mother will never return. It's not insolent willfulness on Ponette's part but, rather, a profound incomprehension of how such a thing could be true. Her aunt's consoling story about the resurrection of Jesus only increases the child's confusion and fuels the belief that her loss is not irrevocable. She explores a variety of strategies for bringing back her mother, amalgams of semi-truths and solemn rituals imparted to her by other well-meaning children. Her young cousins are also abundantly sensitive to her pain and try to console her, but they, too, are held sway by the magical and irrational cause-and-effect thinking of childhood. As with all human beings, whatever their age, Ponette must explore the full geography of her emotions before she can find solid moorings. The film's narrative method of resolving the child's crisis leans heavily on a miraculous solution and is the only false note Ponette strikes. Four-year-old Victoire Thivisol, however, is a revelation to watch. The naturalism and expressiveness of this child as she moves through a host of difficult emotions is more like experiencing the unabashed realism of a fragile soul bared than the witnessing of a great performance. It's a performance so astonishing that Thivisol was recognized with the best actress award at the 1996 Venice Film Festival. Director Doillon is a filmmaker whose work has rarely shuttled over to this continent. The unique sensibility and gentle confidence he demonstrates in Ponette make it clear that this Frenchman is a storyteller in possession of distinctive insight. Childhood has no better friend than Jacques Doillon. And some kindergarten somewhere in France has a world-renowned actress in its midst.

That sounds like a lovely movie, Dana. I checked out Amazon UK and US but they only have used copies and they're scarily expensive. If it's ever rereleased I'll have a look at it.
