A place to rant and obsess over returns.
It seems like yesterday they aired "Family" on election eve 2000, but it was 6 years ago, and I'm old now:)

Polls still have a few more hours here till they close (about 6-7 hours).

So no early returns yet. I'll relate what the outcomes are and how they might pertain to Kittens when I can.

Wow. 6 years.

tonight is amazing. democrat deval patrick has been elected governor of my adopted state of massachusetts, becoming the first black governor of the commonwealth. i'm so proud of my state and excited about patrick's term.

and in even more exciting news, the democrats have regained the house! to recapture the senate the democrats need to win in missouri, virginia and montana - and though they are currently leading in those states, the races are too close to call (and may be subject to recount once they are). but i'm so high on the wins in mass (and in the governorships throughout the nation) and the shift in the house that i'm not fretting too much about the senate (for now anyway).

Last night was a big win for the Dems. Many govenor races (including Illinois) and of course the House.

The Senate looks split still, but the Rebulicans lost several key players in their party including getting rid of Rick Santorum (hopefully he will crawl back under the rock he came from).

Now lets see what they actually do.

Im SOOO F-ing glad Santorum lost, I live in PA and I've had enough of him throwing his religious, 'family-man' bullshit in my face. He's full of lies and I'm glad I don't have to see his name everywhere anymore, he makes me sick.

At least the Dems control the House now, from what I can tell they're still waiting for the Senate results in Montana and Virginia so we probably won't know until tonight who controls the Senate...God help us all if the Reps remain in control. Looks like there's going to be several recounts.

And I'm SOOO glad Lynn Swann lost, its bad enough a state elected Arnold as governor, we don't need some moronic football player now. He had absolutely NO campaign except "Oh, I played for the Steelers and now I'm really rich". I can't believe anyone voted for him!!!

Anyway, I stayed up way too late to watch the returns come in but I'm energized because of the power switch in the House. In the 2004 Election, I got to vote for the first time (I turned 18 a month before election day!) and I stayed up until 4 AM watching the votes come in, and went to bed confident that Kerry won Ohio and therefore the election....but NOOO everyone had their attention on Florida and the Reps managed to steal the election in Ohio. I cried so much when Kerry conceded. I still have the journal that I kept track of the returns in, and at the end I had my predictions for Bush's second term....I am going to pull it out tonight and see if any of it is accurate for his term so far.

Ahhhh I get too hyped over politics, I honestly want to run for president someday.

It's unbelievable but yeah we took them back! I know that republicans are going to spend a lot of money to buy and cheat us out of those 2 close senate races but we know they're ours. The only disappointment I feel is that as a Californian I have to keep putting up with the governator. The unfortunate part is that many key state positions were also taken by this party. So locally not so happy but at least the republicans here aren't neocons who can destroy the world.

The most important thing was to take the House and we did it.

And can we all show some love for the first ever female speaker of the house!

Go Speaker Pelosi!!

The Senate is still too close to call.

I saw the deal with Rumsfeld. I guess the elections were a surprise to the White House. Huh. Seems like they don't know how ANY battle is going.

What fascinates me is the fact that with Pelosi as the Speaker, if there ever WAS an investigation (and I pray to everything that there IS) and Cheney and Bush are impeached....we will have ourselves the first woman president.

Though there is hardly a chance that anyone will be brave enough to step up and impeach those bastards. That would be a good way to get yourself murdered, and who knows how low the Republicans would stoop if someone tried to interfere like that. They have pretty much unlimited resources when it comes to money and in this country, in this era, money controls everything anymore.

But this election is a huge step in the right direction. Its kind of restored my faith in the American people, even though many, many people still voted Republican. I keep telling myself they just don't know any better.

I don't understand how ANYONE at the White House can be surprised about this...but then again they all have huge egos, and assume that every American believes the lies and bullshit they throw at us.

Remember.

"Impeach" only means "to accuse". You need more than impeachment to oust a sitting President or VP. There is another step, the Senate has to put the impeached on trail.

While there are the votes in the House, the Senate is not as certain, plus a 2/3s vote would be needed after that.

Bill Clinton was impeached by the House (He did lie under oath to a Grand Jury). But he was acquitted by the Senate, and thus not removed from office. BTW Nixon was never impeached for Watergate.

It would be great, but I am not going to hold my breath.

All I really want to know is, this whole referendum, all these people who are suddenly angry, I just want to sort of lean over, and nudge them closer, so that I can get right up to their collective ears and ask WHERE IN THE HELL WERE YOU ALL TWO YEARS AGO?????!?!?!!!!

What I meant was, if there is an investigation, they're impeached and convicted, we will have Pelosi as president. All I said was there's a possibility. The possibility is minute but its there. I'm not holding my breath either. A big reason for the change in dominating parties is because Democrats ran more conservative candidates this year and I don't think most of them would have enough balls to convict their president or voce president, especially when everyone KNOWS how crooked and dirty both of them are. Heads would roll.
I think there will be an investigation, but I don't think it will go to impeachment. Personally I think Cheney is the real problem....Bush is a puppet controlled by his father and Cheney.

Nixon resigned before he could be formally accused because he knew he was guilty.

Good times, good times. I am very happy about all this. I would so love to be a fly on the wall at the White House this last week or so. This Republican machine has done so much harm to the people of this country and this planet, and I am so bitterly angry at them for it all, I can't help but feel a little schadenfreude mixed in with nice clean pure joy.

Check this out. Republican National Committee Chair Ken Mehlman is "stepping down" but the mainstream media doesn't seem to be covering the fact that Bill Maher outed Ken Mehlman on Larry King Live the other day. I'd actually seen him on there, and he talks about how a lot of influential movers and shakers in the Republican party are gay, but CNN cut out his specific mention of Ken Mehlman. You can read more about it here and Huff Post has the video here.

Really interesting. I don't think all this recent gayness on the right should sit well with the base, because they'll perceive it as a sickness in the party, especially with people like Mark Foley and Ted Haggard being in the news for not just probably liking the cock, but liking the cock of underage pages and meth-dealing prostitutes. (In other words, actually having real problems they need to deal with, but those problems being unfortunately linked in the public's mind with their apparent sexuality.)

I really wish all these gay Republicans had come out on their own and shown both their party and the country that gay people come in every possible configuration and it's silly to be afraid of us. These guys could have used their power to enlighten people instead of using it to work so hard against the interests of gay people. The more of us come out, the harder it is to fear us or hate us. And no one needs to learn the lesson that we shouldn't be feared and hated more than the conservative Republican types who look to people like Foley, Haggard, and Mehlman to protect them from the downfall of human civilization they expect if the degenerate gays can get married.

Lifting this thread back up (does that make this the FIFTH bi-annual Kitten election thread now? ;-)), for Election '08 (seems overdue to talk about it!)

Tonight, I saw (in person) the next President of the United States, BARACK OBAMA!!! :party (as well as the next Vice-President, Joe Biden---whom I met before, and actually spoke to, over 20 years ago---but that's another story!)

First, a disclaimer: I'm not part of a hivemind. I don't think Obama is the Savior of the World...

...that said, I more enthused about my candidate for President this year, than in a LONG time (and since I usually manage to get myself enthused for the Democrat every time, that's sayin' sumthin! :grin)

GG Everybody, get registered, and support the candidate of your choice---but please let that be Obama? I really don't want to fight any more of McCain's Wars. :paranoid Out

And as women candidates go? Puh-leez: that Sarah Palin chick is SCAAAAAAAARY! :yikes ("Scary" as in crazy :crazy)

OH my god Gatito Grande, i totally agree about that Palin chic. I don't even live in America, but there was an article about her in the paper this morning and some idiot lady was quoted as saying, 'she's just a different kind of feminist, one who's not afraid to wear long skirts'. Feminist my ass. Oh of course, unless feminists are anti-everything to do with equality, then she definately fits the bundle. She's not afraid to shoot things that's for sure. That lady freaks me out. Make the right choice America (as in, dont choose McCain).

I agree - for someone who is pro-life she seems happy enough to kill everything else.

Then there is this:

http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Sarah_P ... Rights.htm

A nasty bigoted poor excuse for a human being, and if there is any justice in the world, she won't get anywhere near the Whitehouse. If she does, they will have to re-name it the Shitehouse, cos that's what comes out of her mouth - Shite!!

Definitely seems to be a cynical move by the Republicans to try and snag a few more votes from disgruntled Clinton supporters.
I'd like to think however that the feminist voters are too smart to be fooled by this move and will stick with the Democrats.

Not that my opinion counts being the wrong side of the pond. Oh well.

EDIT: Heh, at least I'm not alone in that looking at the 3 posts above.

Gatito Grande wrote:First, a disclaimer: I'm not part of a hivemind. I don't think Obama is the Savior of the World...

Well, a lot of people do, but I wish I had another option. I still might write in Hillary Clinton. Probably not, because I'm afraid that there are too many people like me and that we'll screw everything up, but I'm just not sure about Obama. I know, I'll probably get tarred and feathered for saying that around here, but I just can't help it. He lost me when he first said that the answer to fixing education in this country was "more assessment." More assessment.... really? Education today is nothing but assessment test after assessment test...we're testing our kids to death. Ask any teacher...they'll tell you.

I'm just not filled with confidence about Obama. I wish I was.

Hah! You can have the Northern Ireland assembly if you want. Nothing but a bunch of religious maniacs, bigots and ex-terrorists.

Could be worse though, we could have George W Bush Jnr - lol

Hmmm, so how is Northern Ireland these days? We spent 80 minutes yesterday listening to our history lecturer speak about attempts at peacemaking in the 90s. Pretty sure I listened to about 0% of it, but I did learn one interesting fact...never fall asleep when yuo're meant to be listening to an angry irish lady talk about her country...I'll quote her...'I'm gonna smash your head against the wall like an egg if you try to pull that one on me again.'

Hmmm...I guess i can complain about the idiot that is Kevin Rudd, Australian PM.

Oh no, you are definitely not alone. I have issues with him as well. Is he better than McCain? Yes, no doubt about that. Is he everything I want in a president? No, not by a long shot. (Neither was Clinton, really.)

So in yet another election, I'll be voting not for one candidate, but against the other one.

Palin is pretty shocking to me. Every day I learn more things about her to dislike. If the GOP really wanted to field a woman, they had better options. If they think Clinton supporters are going to cross the aisle to vote for anyone with breasts, they are seriously wrong. As much as I'd like to see a woman as president or vice president, there is no way in HELL I could possibly vote for someone like Palin. Why must she kill all those animals?!?
