I pre-ordered an autographed copy from Shocklines, so I have a few weeks to wait while Amber and Chris sign the books. But, it's good to hear Witchery has released. I enjoyed Astray, Initiation, and Accursed, and can't wait to see what William and Tamara have been up to.

Can anyone help me out? I was wondering if the Albion books were each self contained or if they were part of a continuing arc. I wanted to pic one up but I didn't want to start in the middle or at the end.

Thanks!

Jackie, I would recommend staring here at the Ghosts of Albion site on the BBC. You can watch the first few stories: Legacy, Astray, and Embers. While I don't think it's necessary you watch these to understand what's happening in the novels, they're a lot of fun, and I like having an image of the characters while I read.

If you want to jump right into the novels, Accursed is first (heh! rhyme!), then Witchery. I've been finishing something else, so I haven't started Witchery yet, but Accursed did set up some character developement/relationships that should be continued in Withcery. You probably won't be lost if you start with Witchery, but you'll miss out on lots of adventure.

Hope that helped-
Cameron

True, but Initiation is a collection of stories that first appeared on the BBC site--Legacy and Embers--along with the additional short story Illusions. If $40 is too rich, the stories can be enjoyed in their original form, and for free, on the site linked above. Accursed was the first Ghosts of Albion novel.

I know, I know, it's slightly off topic, but I have to say that I love the title, not just 'cause it's a good title, but also it reminds me of one of the funniest sketches ever on Saturday Night Live:

The guest host was Shannon Doherty who, of course, was notorious for her alleged "attitude" problems on all of her shows. In a sketch supposedly taking place in Salem, Mass. in the 1690s, Ms. Doherty finds herself on trial for her life for the crime of...wait for it...BITCHERY" :lol

Prosecutor (played by Phil Hartman): "Take care, Goodwife! 'Tis no small matter to be charged with bitchery!" :lol :lol :lol

I just read "Witchery"......I liked "Accursed" much...much better.... I was disappointed by the end...it wasn't really...it was missing something ......I don't have a problem with how it ended, but it just didn't do much for me. Whereas I was "promoting' "Accursed", I won't do the same for 'Witchery'.... I usually write down things that I liked in the book, like little ideas, word play.....nothing of the kind in "Witchery"... that's my 2 cents... :D

I liked the second book "Witchery" more than the first. But I enjoyed both.

I am looking forward to seeing more in this world.

Celtric Rose Entertainment is developing "Ghosts of Albion," based on the series of books written by Christopher Golden and Amber Benson

Celtic Rose is a young production shingle that focuses on visual development and creative packaging of intellectual properties for features and TV.

"Our goal is to discover and develop properties that have engaging stories with ambitious visual elements," company founder and VFX professional Randall Rosa said.

This is an exciting development! :party

Perhaps if it becomes a film, a TV-movie, or a mini-series, they might get a certain A. Benson to direct it! ;-)

A movie of it would be cool, but I fear that, that may spoil the books- just my opinioon I am not intending to be negative I am sure a good job will be done but sometimes I think it best that our imagination does the work rather than a movie. :)

If it's done well, I think a movie would be a great way of getting people's attention drawn towards Amber's work. I read Neil Gaiman's Stardust and loved it, and although I didn't think the movie was quite as good, it was certainly very well done, and has probably encouraged more people to read Neil Gaiman's books.

You know, I used to feel that way about Tolkien. I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings over and over when I was a kid, but I could never have imagined they would bring the books to life as well as they did in the movies. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, I thought they did a pretty good job, but I agree with you generally that you can't beat your own imagination and a good book (I'm reading some of Isaac Asimov's excellent robot books at the moment - in between catching up with all of Amber's films on DVD and watching season 4 of Angel!).

Amber/Chris Golden books question

Postby katjetson » Fri Nov 30, 2007 4:10 pm

Hi there.

Does anyone know anything about those Amber/Golden books? I know there's one called "Initiation" and another called "Seven Whistlers". I've seen them online and tried to do some research, but it's a bit confusing. Are they related? Are there more than those? Better yet, has anyone read them?

Thanks a bunch if you've got some answers.

The best way to find out is a Link to Amber Benson at Wikipedia, cause it has all the info on what books she helped write and what she's done.

"Initiation" is part of the Ghosts of Albion series, while "Seven Whistlers" is another storyline altogether. I would recommend Ghosts but not Whistlers -- somehow Whistlers lack that unique writing style of Ghosts.

ghosts of albion

Postby willowtaralover » Thu Dec 09, 2010 4:55 am

As all you kittens know, hopefully, Amber was involved in an animation web series several years ago with Buffy writer Christopher Golden. The animated series was Ghosts of Albion which the pair did for the BBC here in the U.K. and after a little rooting around on the net I found the link for it for anyone who is interested in the show itself or for Amber's extracurricular activities. There's the stories themselves, behind the scenes features and interviews, including one with our favourite blue eyed blonde.
