After our dustbowl summer, a rainy Thursday would be a nice thing. To be perfectly honest, I rather like rainy days myself. Spent a lot of time in some very wet areas, and I find the sound of falling rain to be rather relaxing.

It's been a good Thursday, MKF! Work was mostly harmless. I ended up writing a huge rambling post over in the Bionic Woman thread; yes it came in bits & pieces, but it's nice to have that kind of free time at work, you know? I only wish now I'd known I was going to have that kind of time today so I could've posted somewhere more interesting ... like here!

I have it on reasonably good authority that there's going to be some Thursday Evening nookie tonight.

I almost posted this today in the What Are You Eating? thread, but it's Thursday, damn it! I went to the Chinese Buffet for lunch today, and suddenly realized that since returning to the States the ONLY Chinese restaurants I've been to have been buffets. There are 2 Chinese restaurants in town; both are buffets. There are 3 I know of in Bowling Green; they're all buffets, too. I remember years ago going to these great Chinese restaurants in DC - real, sit-down, order from a menu restaurants. I dated a Chinese girl for a while back in school and even learned how to order in Mandarin. Now, nothing but buffets. Get up and get it yourself. The selection is limited, and almost all restaurants serve the same items. Quality isn't the same, either. For lunch, I guess it's no big deal. But when you want to go out someplace nice, someplace special, the Chinese Buffet just doesn't spring to mind, you know?

What happened to all the Chinese restaurants? Is it just because I live in the countryside, or is this happening elsewhere?

Any Kittens near Nashville or Louisville know any good Chinese restaurants?

Well, that's my Thursday. One more day till the weekend!

Actually, I've always believed the best way to cure a cold is to give it to someone else.

Alas! but there was no Thursday evening nookie after all. I just realized we have threads for what you're eating, what you're watching on tv, if you're happy or sad, what music you're listening to, what you're reading, you name it. But no Nookie Thread. Or no No Nookie Thread, as the case may be.

You know what, MKF? If you're not going to get any nookie, there's no better day for it than a Thursday! (except for ktv next week)

worst thursday ever!!

i was supposed to be arriving in roanoke today at noon, but my plane broke down on take off this morning and i was stuck at the hartford airport for about six hours. once i got to philly i found that my connecting flight to roanoke had just left and the next wouldn't be leaving until 9:20 tonight. seven hours after i arrived!! so now i'm wandering around the philly airport like tom hanks in the terminal.

the girl has promised to more than make up for the terribleness of my day and i fully plan on holding her to that :wink

i think i'm going to find a quiet gate with a power outlet and hunker down for the next six hours. i've got some heroes and brothers & sisters to catch up on (though i should be writing a brief).

happy thursday kittens... hope yours is better than mine!

There's a BAD storm on its way, MKF! Got to get my Thursday post in before my internet gets knocked out! Mrs. Gorn is powerfully afraid of storms, but she's already gone to bed. I hope it doesn't wake her up; looks like a lot of lightning ...

I had a pretty weird day today. I had to take one of our Japanese technicians into the hospital and translate for him. I hate going to the hospital, even when I'm not the one who's going to get prodded, poked, and stuck. I felt particularly bad for this guy, though, as I remember what it's like to get sick in a foreign country. Very scary feeling. A lot of people took care of me back then, so taking care of this guy today was the very least I could do. Hope he's going to be OK.

When I got back to my desk, it seems no one had any sympathy for me - there was heaps of work waiting for me. Heaps and heaps. I organized it into neat piles, got a cup of coffee, talked fantasy football with my co-workers for about half an hour, then came home without doing any of it. Ah, how I love Thursday!

I just woke up from a nap, which means I'll likely be up until around 2 or 3am tonight. I knew it wasn't a good idea, but the softness of the bed got the better of me.

I think I've got about 10 minutes before the storm hits. Better send this off now!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Glad to see Dianneswillowtree had a good one, sorry to hear kisstheviolets had a bad one. Hope she's getting an extra helping of Thursday Nookie to make up for it!

Wow. I made it to this thread. On the appropriate day, no less.

So my big news is that the dining room in the new house is now a sort of neon orange sherbet color. If you are appalled, I understand completely.

There was this whole plan to go with a rich, yet muted rusty orange color, and then the peanut gallery (my mother and gf) decided that it seemed "too greyed out".

So I admit I may have had a slightly passive aggressive moment. This color is definitely not greyed out. Unless you wear sunglasses in the room, which I kinda recommend.

Now I'm off to let the furnace installation folks in, get my plow guy into the field, and work a little. Hope everybody's Thursday is as insanely, annoyingly cheerful as my dining room walls.

It's a Boss-Is-Out-Today Thursday, MKF! Woo hoo!! AND payday!! And just when you think it can't get any better ... I see the sun peeking out from behind the clouds for the first time this week. We've really needed the rain, though, so I shouldn't complain. Still, it would be nice to see things clear up just in time for the weekend. How often does that happen?

The only damper on this great Thursday is the mental image I now have of Boschi's dining room ... Honestly, Boschi, people are supposed to EAT in that room!

It's very, very easy. Lace up your big black steel-toe boots, put on some P-Funk, start walking around your house like those three kids in the "Priceless" commercial ...

... and say to yourself over & over again, "Tomorrow's Friday! Tomorrow's Friday!"

You know, I hadn't actually contemplated the use of the now famous boots-o-doom. There's a plan. I can't actually Bring on da Funk, right now. Kids in bed, school night kinda thing, you know, but I can put on the boots.

Great idea. Beats the shit out of watching "Terms of Endearment" with a box of chocolates and a bottle of scotch. There's not enough Kleenex in the house for that.

Thank you, gorn.

I think it bodes well for November to get to start on a Thursday.

I've had a solid sort of day so far. I kicked off the day with a vast amount of laundry. The laundromat was crazy. Somehow I am always surprised when places like that are busy at such random times (like 10:00am on a Thursday). I opened the door to the bustling Suds on Sixth and thought "Who are all these people and why are they not at work?!" Clearly I am under the impression that I alone in all of new york city have atypical work hours. Anyway, I fought bravely for machines, ran home to wash dishes in between loads, and magically it all got done. So I'm pleased.

Now I have a few minutes to eat some lunch and clean the litterboxes (good times, good times) and then I am off to work. I have high hopes for the rest of the day. By the time I get home I will be something resembling exhausted and my hands will hurt too much to type, so I will let the conjecture suffice. Even the Thursday thread in all its glory can't compete with a gorgeous wife and (clean!) flannel sheets on the bed at the end of a long day.

So happy Thursday all!

Grrrrr....

I'm grappling with the state dept. of revenue. I've got a really nice person trying to help me, but she's new and the system is just stupid, so we are both running in circles.

And now we have discovered that the previous info I was given was courtesy of their office idiot. So it is probably a good thing I double checked.

Now having spent the morning (and part of the afternoon) trying to figure out a complex way to do this, I'll go back to the simple way I had planned to do it in the first place....

Okay, so maybe I shoulda put this in the Rants thread. Sorry.

Happy Thursday?

Postby kisstheviolets » Thu Nov 01, 2007 3:19 pm

thursday, thursday....

i got up insanely early after only a few hours sleep because i'd agreed to be the "lawyer for a day" at the housing court for the women's bar foundation's pro bono housing program. i know nothing about housing court aside from what i learned in a brief training, and so i not only woke up disgustingly early, but also wicked panicked. fortunately, there were several familiar faces there, women i'd gone to school with who i always forget how much i like until i see them at things like this, as well as one of my best friends who clerks for the housing court judges. i was assigned a very young woman from puerto rico who is renting in a house that had been foreclosed on (she's not the owner of the property). so i negotiated with the bank to keep her in her home till early '08, got them to agree to fix all of the emergency repairs that need to be made which she'd been reporting to the delinquent owner (including fixing their boiler so they can have heat - it's nov!) and waive all of the past back rent she owes. it's only a tentative agreement as we're trying to get the bank to cough up relocation funds. this woman doesn't work, has two small kids, and a live-in boyfriend who was just laid-off. they've applied for section 8 but are number 18 on the list. we have to reconvene in two weeks to finalize the agreement but i think we'll be able to get the money from the bank. i also found a lawyer to help the boyfriend with his unemployment benefits (i would do it, but he doesn't speak english and i don't speak spanish or have a translator available... i know, i know, take a class).

i went to lunch with my friend the clerk, then got home this afternoon and took an amazing nap. one of those ones that could have lasted straight on through til tomorrow morning if i hadn't realized i have about 8 hours of work to do tonight. ugh.

so, long story long, it was a pretty great thursday. well, until now, that is, as i get started on the work i need to have finished by morning. ick.

hope you all are having awesome thursdays in kittenland.

Section 8? Isn't that when they throw you out of the military for dressing like a woman? I used to watch M.A.S.H. all the time ... I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.

My Thursday has been strange. A weird kind of busy, I'm not sure how to describe. I've been out of town at a conference for a few days, and this was my first morning back. I only worked half the day, though, because I had some guys coming out to install my new garage door openers. They were late, then it took them over 2 hours to get it done (I couldn't complain because I have no idea how to do it myself; it just SEEMED like an easier job than it turned out to be - glad I hired someone else to do it!). So, as much work as I've got to do, I ended up spending the rest of the day sitting on the sofa watching the History Channel and taking calls on my cell phone. Went out to dinner with a couple of the Japanese engineers who wanted to complain about something or other, now - 8 o'clock at night - I'm back at the office to finish up all the stuff that HAS to be done before tomorrow morning.

So, naturally, I'm posting in the It's Just Thursday, MKF! thread instead!

It's a Thursday; what are you gonna do?

Hang in there, Kittens. Tomorrow is Friday! Ah, you can only say that on a Thursday, you know?

And nice observation there about November starting on a Thursday - I take that as a decidedly good omen.

Is it already Thursday again, MKF??? It seems I was just packing my bag to go on vacation ... and now a whole week has gone by. Unbelievable. Still, I've got a Friday getting ready to peek over the horizon, so nothing to complain about.

I was watching some show last night just before going to bed, some kind of Mythbusters or something like that. They were talking about ways to get drunk as quickly as possible, and some doctor came on and said the fastest way was through the ass. I kid you not. The alcohol will apparently enter your bloodstream quicker and not be filtered through the liver that way, causing rapid intoxication. They said a can of beer up your ass (the contents, not the can itself I'm assuming...) will affect you in less than 15 minutes, and would be the equivalent of drinking 20 cans of beer normally in the space of an hour.

I'm glad I saw this now at my older & wiser age, because ... as much as I hate to admit it ... there was a time in my life (early 20's) when I MIGHT have tried something like this upon hearing about it on tv. Particularly if I was already intoxicated.

I know this is a weird topic for a Thursday, but Thursday's are like that sometimes.

Just in case anyone out there was starting to get any funny ideas, MKF strongly advises against doing anything like this at home. Do it at a bar instead, where it will be a lot funnier.

omg gorn. i am about to call one of my housemates this instant to tell her about this. if it was even just a year or two ago, during law school, we probably would have done it (or convinced someone else to do it). i'm a wee bit curious still....

i'm having a crummy week and now it's cold and raining like crazy this thursday. i'm reminded of this line in a cure song that goes "and the way the rain comes down hard, that's how i feel inside." takes me back to being an angsty teenager... now i'm just an angsty 29-year-old.

i think i'm going to go "home" to oregon after thanksgiving (not actually my home, but home is kind of wherever my mom is and she's with my brother up in portland now). i've been in a bad depressive period lately (and no, it's not entirely girl related, though that is sucking hardcore for sure), nothing is materializing on the job front, and my living situation is less than ideal. plus, i'm just really missing my family as the holidays roll around. so i'm kind of excited at the idea of getting out of here for a while (maybe a month or so) and i'm going to focus my attention while i'm gone on getting a job in dc or boston. i've decided i need some big city living at this stage in my life and i love both of those towns.

so yay MKF, i have a plan this dreary thursday. that makes things a little brighter.

happy thursday, peeps.
