I don't know if there is already a thing about this on the board. I am too lazy to actually go and look. If there is then you can just move this to where it needs to be.

Okay one of the things I love to collect is quotes/sayings that I find. I have a 3inch binder full of them and it keeps growing everyday. So what I was thinking is that everyone could put their favorite quote/saying. I guess since I started this I will put up some of my favorites.

- Sometimes the only sense you can make out of life is a sense of humor.

- If people are informed, they will do the right thing. It's when they are not informed that they become hostages to prrejudice.
Charlayne Hunter-Gault (Television Journalist)

- Whatever doesn't kill me only makes me stronger.

- Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity.

Oooh, yay. I love quotes! These are some of my favorites:
  • "What if the question is not why am I so infrequently the person I really want to be, but why do I so infrequently want to be the person I really am?" - Oriah Mountain Dreamer
  • "The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one." - George Bernard Shaw
  • "Hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard."
  • "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." - Voltaire
  • "We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world." - Helen Keller
  • "A government that is ruthless with other nations will be ruthless with its own citizens." - Dr. Howard Zinn
  • "I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." - Susan B. Anthony
  • "Writing saved me from the sin and inconvenience of violence." - Alice Walker
  • "Use what talents you possess - the woods would be silent if no birds sang there except those that sang the best." - Henry Van Dyke
  • "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true." - James Branch Cabell
  • "If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed." - Samuel Clemens
  • "If you want to imagine the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever." - George Orwell
  • "Worry is the interest you pay on trouble before it's due."
  • "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
  • "The way (tao) that can be spoken of is not the constant way; the name that can be named is not the constant name. The nameless was the beginning of heaven and earth; The named was the mother of the myriad creatures. Hence always rid yourself of desires in order to observe its secrets; But always allow yourself to have desires in order to observe its manifestations. These two are the same but diverge in name as they issue forth. Being the same they are called mysteries, Mystery upon mystery--The gateway of the manifold secrets." - Lao Tzu, from Tao Te Ching (translated by D.C. Lau)
  • "With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg
  • "I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation and is but a reflection of human frailty." - Albert Einstein
  • "But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most." - Mark Twain
  • "Terrorism is the war of the poor, and war is the terrorism of the rich." - Sir Peter Ustinov
  • "Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner." - James Bovard
  • "Don't be discouraged by the impossibility of dispelling darkness from the world with your one little candle. Just light it! Step forward and let it shine with every step you take to help others." - Amma
  • "Don't ever look down on someone unless you're helping them up."

Oooh I like this thread. My sister gave me a fridge magnet that has a cool quote on it:

"The purpose of life is to live it
To taste experience to the utmost
to reach out eagerly
and without fear
for newer and richer experience." ( Elenor Roosevelt)

I think for me this is very inspiring and what I try and live my life for.

Thats all for the moment, I'll have to break out my notebooks soon. Enjoy!!

Normal people worry me.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

What happens if you get scared half to death...twice?

Don't look down at anyone unless you are helping them up.

Sometimes we must hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know. Sometimes our vision is only cleared when our eyes are washed with tears.

If life gives you lemons, squeeze the juice into a watergun and squirt it into other peoples eyes.

Measure your partner by how they treat your best friends.

Its hard to answer the question whats wrong when nothing is right.

Yes, I love quotes. I like to just read quote books. Now, I can't say that I'm great at remembering them. But here are a few:

"Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead." - Benjamin Franklin

"When angry count four, when very angry, swear" - Mark Twain

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchaſe a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Possibly Benjamin Franklin or Richard Jackson

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

"I don't understand why people are so concerned with knowing the sex of a baby before it is born. It is only one of two things. It's not like it may be a buick and may be a puppy." - my mother

I'm seen this attributed to both Marriane Williamson and Nelson Mandela but it's beautiful:

[blockquote]

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous
talented and fabulous?
Actually - who are you not to be?
You are a child of God

Your playing small does not serve the world
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won’t feel insecure around you
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone
And as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give
other people the right to do the same
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others
[/blockquote]

There are ghosts from my past who own more of my soul than I though I had given away. They linger in closets and under my bed and in pictures less proudly displayed. A great fool in my life I have been, have squandered till pallid and thin. Hung my head in shame and refused to take blame, for darkness I know I've let win.

If I’m falling, don’t catch me….be at the bottom when I get there because that means you fell too! And if you’re not with me, let me go…just let me be, because I will always be alright. See, I don’t need a cushion, I need a crutch that’s always gonna be there. I am amazing…make me see that you see it too…and I am beautiful so treat me like I am. Here are some that I recently found.

* If you could, would you change someone's life? Would you change the world? Would you change yourself? We're not claiming change it easy. But we promise you: It's good.

* When you have nothing to be ashamed of, when you know who you are and what you stand for, you stand in wisdom. In sight. Strength and protection. You stand in peace.
-Oprah

* The way we handle money is a manifestation of who we are inside.
-Suze Orman

* Television is like a vitamin: toxic if taken in large quantities, but also essential for social and personal well-being.
- Martha Beck

* Being open to new information and opinions, inviting people and events to let you know where you're wrong, is the best way I know to open the mind. I try to use the phrase "Tell me where I'm worng" at least four or five times a day. Try it. You'll see that while insisting that you're right is gratifying, accepting that you're wrong can be transformative.
-Martha Beck

* There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
-Albert Einstein

* Giving up drugs and alcohol has given me the freedom to express my mind, but therapy has helped me to locate my mind.
- Jamie Lee Curtis

* Life isn't about what you have; its about what you have to give.
-Oprah

* "Lieberman said, 'Now, don't you worry, we're going to get you civil unions,' and I said, 'Civil unions? Fuck you, you've been married twice. Am I any less a citzen than you?''"
-Harvey Fierstein to Joe Lieberman when he was running for vice president

* To sacrifice what you are and to live without belief is a fate more terrible than dying.
- Joan of Arc

* You gotta have faith, it doesn't have to be a god thing. You don't have to be realigious. But when you're all alone on troubled waters, you need something to hold on to. And even the sunniest day is lacking if you don't have something to believe in - the kind of something that gives life meaning.

*and my favorite for the moment*

* When you get stranded, the way to start moving again is not to search for an answer but to find a new question to which your life can be the answer.

"I dreamt once that I lost you. We were on icebergs. And I can't remember if you were floating away from me, or I was floating away from you. But I remember waking up beside you. It was the middle of the night and it was raining, like tonight. And I heard your breathing, calming me. It was like we could speak without words. I wonder how and when we learned this secret language. I only know that at some point, in the silences, I heard you. And now I'm left with words, these useless words, when all I want is to be beside you again. To make you feel safe, to help you sleep. To bring you back to me"

I found a really cool quote in one of my Wicca books last night:
In a bookcalled "A Witch's Grimoire of secret magick and spells." By Gilly Sergiev

The quote is " When you have everything, there is always a little something missing, and when you have nothing, there is always a little something there"

"You can't just have faith when the miracles happen. You have to have it when they don't"-Supernatural

"Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. Its what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."-Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Real loss only occurs when you lose something that you love more than yourself

Life is not worth living if you don't have something worth dying for.

"Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping..waiting and though unwanted..unbidden..it will stir..open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us..guides us..Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love..the clarity of hatred..and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank..without passion, we'd be truly dead."-Buffy The Vampire Slayer

"There are moments in you life that make you, that set the course of who you're gonna be. Sometimes they're little, subtle moments. Sometimes..they're not."-Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Love thy enemies-it will drive them nuts

"When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done. Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. And don't resent me and when you're feeling empty keep me in your memory. Leave out all the rest."-Linkin Park.

My fault, my failure is not in the passions I have but in my lack of control of them.

If it really didn't matter, you wouldn't be spending so much time thinking about it.

I wear my scars proudly. They represent the battle through which I've gone and I'm proud because those battles I have won.

You are what you love, not what loves you

I hope I am translating it well enough. It is something a Statistic Teacher gave us when I was in college. She thought is was funny how things repeat themselves generation after generation....
