The first time I watched, I cared about all that stuff. The subsequent times, not so much, so I'm there with you.

Am I the only one that didn't care about the story, the dialogues, the special effects...

The movie had all of those things???
I was too busy developing a story of my own, as I watched, involving myself as Amber's page running bathwater for her and helping her out of the chainmail and to gently sponge all of the grime from off her curvy toned body.
That and thinking of the technical aspects of developing the software to place oneself under Amber in the tent scene.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

I bought the US Region 1 DVD from Amazon(USA) a few months ago. Thankfully my DVD player can play all regions, as I really couldn't have waited to find it on TV over here, and I doubt it will ever make it to Region 2 DVD.

Hmm, I liked it; sure some of the dialogue, special FX and other stuff was a bit lame in places, but Amber was stunning as always, and when she's doing her stuff, everything else is very acceptable! :party

Sorry if anyone has said this before, but does anyone have the "Wouldn't Amber make a GREAT Joan of Arc?" idea in their head after watching this? :) The quiet unassuming young girl, that would inspire the hearts of the roughest and most pessimistic of soldiers. Hmmmm...more Amber in armour...hmmm...nice thoughts!! ;-)

Now I'm at war with myself...is seeing Amber in chainmail and her beautiful back worth the agony of the hideous badness of the rest of the movie? I guess I could turn down the sound and do the MST3K thing

Hi Boudicca!

Yes, I posted earlier that since Ingrid Bergman had no problem playing La Pucelle in her mid-thirties, there's no earthly reason why AB couldn't play Joan as well, either in the Robert Wilson play (as with Bergman) or the G.B. Shaw play (as with Jean Seberg). :)

Sometimes I hate a movie the first time I see it and then subsequent times it is not so bad...watched Gryphon for the second time tonight...Nope...still sucks...but Amber does have one of the most gorgeous backs I have ever seen...and being a back girl that's saying something!

There were just too many plot holes and inconsistencies for me to ignore...ah well...at least I got to look at Amber for a couple hours...

As regards the Amber playing Saint Joan...the alluring Ms. Benson herself has said that it is a role she has always wanted to play but that she is too old for it now...and that was a few years ago...then again look at how old Ingrid Bergman was when she did it...and Hollywood studio version or not, I have always loved that movie...Ingrid is my all time fave actress, after all... next to Judy Holliday and of course Kate Hepburn...

I think Amber could do it...but after watching re-watching Gryphon I'd say she'd really have to work on her kick-ass-chick chops first...large with the butch is not one of her many fortes I'm afraid...I think it's those soft, gentle soulful eyes...makes it hard to believe her as threatening :kgeek

Hi umganow! (*waves*)

Actually, she wouldn't really have to do much fighting: Jeanne didn't so much fight as lead and inspire her armies to do the fighting. Those famous eyes might actually help in those scenes where she needs to look "soulfully" inspired by God or when she's talking to one of the Saints.

I really don't thinkl she needs to worry about the "age" thing. There is a famous anecdote that's told about the great Sarah Bernhardt. Very late in her career, when she was already in her sixties and having difficulties moving around the stage, she was persuaded to revive one of the great roles of her youth: Joan of Arc. Everyone was skeptical that she could bring it off, but the point came in the action where someone asks Joan her age. The audience held its breath, but, with total conviction, Bernhardt looked them in the eyes and proclaimed, "Nineteen". The audience spontaneously broke out into cheers and applause. :)

Hi Hemiola!

I hadn't heard that about Sarah Bernhardt.....very interesting and also brilliant! :party
I don't think Amber would have any problems with the Joan part. If you think of all the actresses that have been in action/sword and sorcery type movies and TV shows, she'd definitely be fine. If Kathryn "Cold Case" Morris can kick butt in Xena, then Amber could be Joan. :)
Orrrr.....my wild mind wonders about AB playing a part like Florence Nightingale.....I have a feeling lots of people would love to be ill just to be nursed by her!!! :laugh *cough* But now I'm going very OT! :)

SciFi Channel is re-running this movie on Sat. Jan 24th. @ 10am Eastern/9am Central in the US. It looks like a whole day of dragons and sword & sorcery movies.

it sure is great, even though the story osn't very dazzling and the movie makes me wannabe a horse, Amber makes it a great thing to watch :) indeed very great to see her in a strong but not cruel role :D Her face is so pretty in very many scenes of this movie.

I remember when this movie first aired I had asked for the day off from work just so I could see it, and since I was working at a Video store when the movie was released on DVD I recomended it to a lot of people and everyone kept telling me how much they loved Amber in the movie. I purchased the DVD and got Amber to sign it when I met her in Houston last May. She was shocked that I had that movie on me and Intermedio and well and she herself said "You have these movies they sucked" but I told her that I would by anything that she came out in because of how great she is. I think I would of shocked her more if I would have taken the rest of the DVD's that I have of movies that she came out in. I can honestly say that I loved most of the movie the only thing I didnt' like was the Gryphon looking so fake.

The SM outfit enchantresses arn't very great either :p and the story has more potential than the director got out of it... But Amber rocks in it! (L)
