What annoys you most about your neighbors?

Postby Millerchip77 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 7:25 am

I'm sorry - but this is a total rant thread. I live in England, in an area called 'The Black Country' so called because during the Industrial Revolution the air was so smoke filled it was black. Queen Victoria caused me double harm by a) denying that lesbians could physically manage sex and b) by having the blinds pulled down when her train came through the area I live in so that she wouldn't have to 'see the squalor'.

One of the by-products of it being an industrialised area is terraced housing - for those of you who don't know what that is, it is rows of houses squshed together with paper thin walls between them. The idea was that everyone would be able to live near the factory they worked in, not park several HUGE 4x4's outside them in order to drive themselves to the shop and back.

Which brings me to the real puropse of this rant - my neighbors. In the last 12 months we have had 3 lots. The first lot were quite a nice family who sadly got their home re-posessed in the 'credit crunch'. They were replaced by renters who decided that it was okay to: start band practice at 1:30am; have an undisclosed number of friends/family stay over; leave rubbish in the street; throw crap into our garden; play the same song on repeat for days at a time. They got kicked out and last week we met the new neighbor. He seemed quite nice and talked in a misty-eyes fashion about his 'rescue dogs'. He promised that he, his girlfriend and their child were 'very quiet'.

Now I'm no prude, I can have late, loud nights with the rest of 'em but we do try to keep it down for the majority of the time. Yesterday their child was screaming, and kittens I kid you not, for TWO HOURS, at that pitch that is a semi-tone down from that that only animals can hear. This was interspersed with them screaming at the kid, 'Why are you crying'/'shut up'/'I'm gonna smack you if you don't stop being silly'. The row was so bad that I had to move my work downstairs and hunch over the dining room table to get some writing done. I have today just heard the kid blowing a whistle for 40 minutes and dad screaming at her/him again. Christ! Will I have no peace? I can't wait for his 3 dogs to move in....

So - do any of you lovely kittens have annoying neighbors?

the way their punkass kids are always knocking on the door asking if they can get their ball out of our yard...keep it in your own damn yard!
Also when they throw poo at the house and when they draw pictures and come and ask you to buy them...kids! Also when the other neighbor swears at his infant and threatens to give it something to cry about...God I can't wait to get out of here

With my neighbours, I don't know where to start.

I've been here just over a year, and I so hear ya on the paper thin walls of terraced housing, such a joy to hear everything like it was in the room with you.

Every Saturday night is 'Fight Night'. They fight with each other, they fight with people that they have invited to their house, then they take it out onto the street and fight with anyone who looks at them the wrong way.

Better yet, if it isn't them thats fighting, people, especially T's Mother comes round yelling the odds and kicking the front door and screaming his name at the top of her lungs at +2am and usually drunk to boot.

I also think he may be dealing in drugs as there are lots of 15-16 years knocking on the door constantly through the evening.

I could ring the police and complain, but I sorta like my kneecaps in one piece.

It's no wonder I close the blinds as soon as I get home.

When I lived in Hamburg, I had a few roommates. We had three bedrooms and each one was owned by someone. So yeah, the apartment was really small and I could not afford something else. My roommates got picked by the owner of the apartment and he made some really bad choices.

The first one was smoking weed all day and night and shared the room with her absolutely disgusting boyfriend. They were like high all night, when I wanted to sleep (you know, with getting up for school at 5am every morning, sleep is kind of required), but noooo they needed to cook at 2am. The whole house could hear them, so after about 6 months of pure madness and me being attacked with a knife, they got kicked out. :)

Then two absolutely two-faced, sneaky bitches moved in. I can't and I don't want to describe, what exactly happened, but I finally gave up and moved out and back home for a few months.

Now my neighbours are pretty quiet...sometimes at least. One of them is an amazing guitarist, but his METAL band practises every friggin' sunday (right under my apartment) from 7:30 - 9:30 in the morning. The walls are made of paper I think.

And there is this couple living on the second floor. They are really nice and stuff, but they argue a lot - mostly at night - and everyone in the house can hear them.

I still love my apartment though. ;-)

We have dealer too! 2 doors down - not in the fluffy Dolly 'They're dancing and singing and having a party' but blaring jungle 'choones' out of their car in the early hours - don't wory, if you call the police they'll do bugger all - they told us they'd 'send someone if there was anyone around' - God I feel safe...

... having two pairs of long limbs jump over the high wall while simultaneously reaching for the rose apple trees. I can’t complain much as they probably dislike the dog's warning ongoing yelps of anger/happiness just as much.

... their blaring stereos during week-ends. I still cannot complain as they do put up with our own blaring music all night long whenever there is a marriage celebrated in the neighbourhood.

... their children's piercing voices and vehement spending of hyperactive energy on a daily basis. It usually reminds me of those days when my brother was still a little boy and would literally deafen everyone with his constant shouting at 6 a.m.

Basically, these are what annoy me with my neighbours. I guess it's still a tit for tat world though.

I think I'm going insane...their kid is screeching, their dogs are barking and have just almost knocked our fence down and the ice-cream van is blaring - does anyone live on a desert island? Would you take a lodger? I have cats, a partner and can cook...

I live in a ground floor flat & the battle axe above me seem's to have harrassed everyone that's ever lived in my place

When I first moved in my mum was dying of cancer and this bitch was told about mum's illness
But she still insisted on making a dying old lady's life a living hell
she moaned about mum's grandkid's making too much noise, but her friend's noisy brat could shout & make a racket!
She moaned about the toilet being flushed at night, about the radio blaring when it was at normal volume!

She moaned at mum so much, that mum asked the cancer nurse to help her die so she could get some piece from the bitch
It only stopped when the nurse had ago at the neighbor & told her if mum gave up or killed herself she would tell the police & the local news about her harassment
I was only told the truth two years after mum's death, so don't worry the bitch is still alive and moaning

Ranting about neighbours? Now let me... They don't speak Dutch, they don't speak English, they don't speak German and they don't speak French either... now those were all languages I can handle some sort of conversation in, should damn well be enough in my own house... well, part of it is mine cause I rent it...

But then she gets all angry at me, tries to tell me something in Brazilian-Portugese with a few, barely recognisable Dutch words thrown in... And she litteraly explodes when I do not understand her.

Having trouble with the language is allright, they say Dutch is hard to learn. My Brasilian is very thin too, I cant do much more than bon dia (good day) bon tardje (good afternoon) ovo (egg) and obrigado (thank you)and maybe bon noche (good night) if I remembered that all right. But this is the country where we speak Dutch, English is mostly fine too, and some of us speak a little German, French or even Greek... So if you can't manage any of those you may try, learn, even bring a translator if you like but. Don't swear at other people if they can't understand you

I know that's not what I do when I'm in, let's say, France and I'm having a hard time speaking/understanding the language. Realy I'm not racist at all, but this is taking the requirement of adaption to foreigners a step too far. I respect those neighbours, I'd like to be treated likewise, certainly if I, as a last measure, even try throwing in all my other languages to make myself clear.

Stupid thing is I can't explain this to her (her husband doesn't speak any Dutch at all, but he never makes any trouble) because my uncle won't teach me. He speaks Brasilian-Portugese because his girlfriend is Brasilian, but he thinks it's not worth talking to my neighbour anyway, so he won't go trough the hassle of teaching me some basics.

I hear you Dorothy - the last neigbors we had before this lot were Slovakian and the adults in the house couldn't speak any English at all - I had to mime asking them to turn the music down when it was blaring one Sunday afternoon...

Okay so this might not be annoying to other people but I hate the fact all the kids in the houses near us are ALWAYS out on the road skateboarding or riding their bikes like night or day.

lol! Poor sweetie. Life's hard huh?
Well if they're students... students are known for experimentation! lol

What I don't like about my neighboor? That they don't want ehir kids to play in their own flat because it is too loud, but they don't want them to play outside when it rains or is cold. So the kids play in the corridor where it is loud for EVERYBODY.
Plus they should not play soccer on the 3rd floor so close to the stairs.

Another thing, since I'm ranting... I HATE my right door neighbor's yorkshire. He is the kind where your first thought is... Kick, GOAAAAL! Lol. And I'm a pet lover, I just let you imagine what people hating dogs think of those kind of dogs...

Speaking of the devil....
