If someone posted this on another thread, sorry for the double. I have never said this, but I am part Native American. If all are wondering, Creek.

I heard about this through several NA sites.

This might not be quite the right thread for this. We have a few this could go into, but this will do.

Charles Barkley has been talking about running for governor here in Alabama for years and years. I go back and forth about him, because he can say some asshole things sometimes. But I was reading the transcript of his appearance on CNN talking about politics, and I was very pleased to see that he said this:

Brown: You, there has been a lot of polarizing rhetoric on both sides, frankly throughout this campaign. You yourself have called the evangelical base of the GOP fake Christians.

Barkley: Well, because they are so judgmental. And you know what is really interesting about that? I was actually defending John McCain when I said that, because they were saying when he first got nominated that he is not part of the evangelicals. You got to respect Sen. McCain. What I meant by that and I still stick by it -- my idea of religion is we are supposed to encourage people to love other people. I am a big pro-choice guy. I am a big gay marriage guy and they are so divisive and that is not my idea of religion. My idea of religion is we are supposed to bring people together. We are not supposed to judge other people.

Brown: But aren't you judging them?

Barkley: They judge me. First of all the notion that you would vote for a president because he is against abortion or against gay marriage is absurd. I think politicians have three jobs.

No. 1 they should fix our public school system, they should make sure our neighborhoods are safe and they should give people economic opportunity. I don't care who is gay, I don't care who is pro-choice. I really think that is the only three jobs that our government and our elected officials should have and we obviously got to do something about the health care and this situation. But to elect a president and vote for a president just because he is against abortion and against gay marriage is absurd.

actually, charles barkley is an african-american, former professional basketball player. and quite frankly, he's a little batty. but at least he's cool and comes down on the right (correct) side of these issues.

If given the chance, I would vote for a basketball player over a politician ANY day of the week. And I could care less what positions or issues are involved - it's the principle.

Japan has a long and wonderful history of electing former pro-wrestlers and sumo wrestlers to its National Diet. I remember one guy who was a masked wrestler - The Great Sasuke - who actually WORE HIS MASK along with a tuxedo to the swearing-in ceremony.

Three cheers for the mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter.

From time.com: The Boy Scouts' Free-Speech Fight

From the article:

The City of Philadelphia wants the Boy Scouts to be prepared — prepared, that is, to change their views on homosexuality or get out of the city-owned building they have occupied for 80 years. "As a city government we cannot allow discrimination in the delivery of services on public property; that is the issue," said Mayor Michael Nutter. "The Boy Scouts, they have some options here — they can change their policy, they can pay full-market rent, or they cannot be on public property."

The Boy Scouts organization is whining that this infringes on their freedom blah blah.

Mayor Nutter says this: "If we were talking about an organization that discriminated against African Americans, Italians, the Irish, Catholics, people of the Jewish faith, or any of a number of other categories, there would be such an outrage that you wouldn't be able to contain it" and "I don't understand...how the organization can countenance discrimination and then expect to carry out that activity on public property."

There's a little groundswell of support for naming Mary Beth Maxwell, who is openly gay, as Obama's Secretary of Labor.

Well, Mary Beth Maxwell didn't get the Secretary of Labor nom.

But now William White, an openly gay man, is being talked about as a possible secretary of the Navy.

"He would be phenomenal," said retired Gen. Hugh Shelton, who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1997 to 2001, pointing to Mr. White's extensive background as a fundraiser for veterans' and military causes.

Personally, I think this is a great idea just because of how out-of-joint it would make the right-wingers-

"It's a matter of judgment, and I think that would be very poor judgment on the part of the commander in chief," said Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, which opposes gays serving in the military. "It would be very demoralizing to the troops."

-but that's just me.

BTW, this is from The Washington Times, which is pretty right-wing itself, so take that into account.

:D:D Since Januari 1st 2009 our gay mariage has ALL the same rights as a heterosexual marriage.

The right to adopt a foreign child is finally added in now.
Only exception is if the country the child is adopted from prohibits it, but that is unchangable in our national law since it involves adapting foreign laws, and that can't be done, which is understandable.

and a lesbian partner can adopt a child born into her relationship imediately, even if the pair hasn't lived together for 3 years yet, which is a very good thing too :D

Really happy now :D
The Netherlands Rock :D

Obama names openly gay man to senior position
by: Pam Spaulding
Mon Jan 05, 2009 at 22:00:00 PM EST

LGBTs aren't represented in the Barack Obama cabinet, but this senior appointment is obviously good news. Openly gay Brad Kiley will serve as the director of the Office of Management and Administration; he currently holds the position of director of ops for the Obama-Biden Transition Project.
(GayPolitics.com):
In this role he will oversee all aspects of administrative services to all entities of the Executive Office of the President (EOP), including direct support services to the President of the United States. These services include financial management, human resources management and research assistance.

I'm not 100% sure it is here I should write this but I just heard that whoever decides to do so decided to kill Batman and he has a sort of heir.
Her name is Batwoman (of course), she's a redhead and she is lesbian. No subtext, she's officially lesbian. She's the first.
I can't link to where I've seen that 'cause it was on a French TV show.

I do hope it is 100% certain. It is something big.

Well that took them long, and only after a coule of people threathened to boycot microsoft. Even now they are not taking any action against the hate, they're just trying to get out of the scandal.
I still hate microsoft, it stinks of monopoly and greedyness.

Edit; just came up with an idea; how many nerd have we got on here and how many additional geeks do we have as friends and/or aquaintances?
Let's make it a challenge to create the most interesting Linux based gay(-friendly) games and aplications, just to diss Microsoft :kdevil It's a positive approach, it creates nice things and ignores the negative stuff rather than fighting it like biog windmills.

To enter the challenge, the games/apps have to;
* Be workable on Linux without need for emulators or the likes of them.
* Have a part in the users agreement/policy about not tollerating any discrimatory content being used/created in the game/app specifically stating that this includes discrimination on gender and sexual preference (other ones like race, handicap, etc. may also be added but gender and sexual prefference have to be in there)

Best game wins, I'll request a poll if there are enough entries, might offer a prize too, but only if there are more than 10 good entries.

I dare y'all! Let's make non-microsoft stuff more interesting by adding more nice things to it.

(Linux can also be installed as a dual boot alongside Windows if you don't want to miss your Microsoft-y-goodness *adds in loadsa sarcasm there* do watch out with Vista though, it tends to dislike Linux and give trouble, bad assholes @MS probbably programmed it that way)
