Mr. Blackwell, List-Making Fashion Arbiter, Is Dead
EOL Staff, eonline

The man who called Renee Zellweger a "painted pumpkin on a pogo stick" has died.

Mr. Blackwell, best known for the worst dressed lists in which he offered criticisms like the one above (and worse), died Sunday of complications from an intestinal infection, according to the Associated Press.

A onetime dress designer and actor, he eventually found his niche writing rhymed ruminations on the quality of celebrity style. He released his first list in 1960 and his more recent targets have included Victoria Beckham, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Mr. Blackwell chronicled his life in a biography entitled, From Rags to Bitches.

Bad news for all you Trek geeks out there. We lost Majel Barrett Roddenberry today.

From Yahoo News: Majel Roddenberry, 'First Lady of Star Trek,' dies

NEW YORK – Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous "Star Trek" TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry's side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." A fixture in the "Star Trek" franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original "Star Trek," Lwaxana Troi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming "Star Trek" film directed by J.J. Abrams.

We're slowly losing all the old crew, aren't we? Goodbye, Nurse Chapel ...

My favorite scene with her was when she made that Vulcan soup for Mr. Spock in "Amok Time." Ah, kind of a bummer for Thursday, but she lived long & prospered.

I didn't know Majel was ill, but I must say that she is the reason "Star Trek" bloomed after Gene's passing. She was wonderful as Lwaxana Troi, and she will be missed.

Mmmmmm yes... in her velvet mini dress and gogo boots with that fierce beehive was one of my incipient baby dyke crushes...or was that Yeoman Rand? No matter she rocked either way...Majel was on every incarnation of Star Trek...now that is dedication and loyalty to you partner's dream...Brava!

R.I.P. (unless that strikes you as too bland), Eartha Kitt.

I'd have followed you home the minute after I heard "I Want to Be Evil" the first time.

She scores high, high on my lists of independent-minded women, sexiest voices ever, and most self possessed. I didn't realize she was ill, mostly because I think she was still performing six months ago.

Well, since you said it ...

http://www.khaaan.com

I start every morning of every day with this link, but tonight it seems sadly appropriate.

Nothing wrong with Uhura or Yeoman Janice Rand, and I was old enough to have a crush on Kirstie Alley as Lt. Saavik ... but you gotta give credit where credit is due - Ricardo Montalban had the best chest in the Star Trek universe.

I'm surprised no one had anything to say about David Carradine. RIP, grasshopper.

I don't mean this in a hurtful way, but ... I would have been a little surprised if he died under normal circumstances, like of cancer or old age. He just never seemed the type that was going out that way, you know?

Bummer on both Ed McMahon and Farah ... As a child of the 70's, Farah Fawcett was that great turning point figure in my life where I suddenly came to realize that perhaps not all girls had cooties (or if they did, I was willing to risk infection).

I had no such epiphany with Ed McMahon, but I'm no less saddened to see him ago.

Patrick Swayze
has died at age 57 after a 20 month long battle with pancreatic cancer.

My condolences go out to his friends and family.

Patrick will always hold a special place in my heart for personal reasons.

Besides his acting career, he was an avid horseman.

Bless his soul.
