Hey guys. Y'all have been doing great. Miller - I think you passed a belt test since I last worked out, right? Congrats.

Anyway, I freaking declare myself over my cold/sorethroat/chest cold thingy. Yesterday I ellipticaled. 60 minutes. 7400 steps. 4.81 miles. 594 calories. 147 av hr.

I was going to spin this morning but I can't tell if there is ice on the roads. I'm about to find out since I need to go to work.

Thank you GG - will look into it.

And JustSkipIt - glad to hear you're feeling better - I think you sent your germs my way 'cause I woke up this morning feeling all tickly throaty and miserable. But yes! I did graduate to orange belt which is so exciting - two more and I'll make the intermediate class - woo hoo!

OT this week I did a huge workout on Monday - I needed it 'cause I took my mom to France for the weekend and ate way too much - and French food is so calorific - how can all the women there still be so slender with all the foie gras and cream sauces? So at the gym I ran for 30 mins, cross-trained for 15 and did a weights circuit. yesterday I went kickboxing and today I have circuits and I'm playing badminton with my dad. If I can still muster the energy to type I'll let you know if I won...

Miller - sorry to hear you're sick but you can't be that sick with all that working out. I'll await results of the Miller-family-2008 Badmitton championship.

I ellipticaled today. 60 minutes. 4.86 miles. 6860 steps. only 466 calories and only 125 av. hr. I didn't push myself because I was doing the cross country program and figured it would be hard enough but it really wasn't. I started running the last 12 minutes but the whole thing could have been harder.

I'm thinking of starting some new program after the new year. I don't know what but I need to focus better and make some progress. I may start doing the body pump classes which I've been afraid of to get some consistent strength training.

I had a good workout today. Stair 20 minutes. 108 Flights. 2.11 Miles. Elliptical. 4850 Steps. 3.50 Miles (40 minutes). I don't know what I'll be able to get in at the farm. I took some clothes but it depends on what the family wants me to do (it's a thing) and what the weather is like.

Everyone have a safe and joyous holiday season.

Well I lost the game and then I got REALLY sick - so sick that all I could do yesterday was to lie on the sofa watching Lost seasn 4 (Evangeline Lilly did lift my spirits a little). My partner is sick too though so we oggled Evangeline together which was lovely.

So no excercise for me till flu has gone :(

Miller - sorry you're sick. Get better soon.

I took a good walk yesterday with the baby on my back. The weather here (at my in-laws - a farm ) is lovely. I'll go for another shortly but then I think it's going to get very very cold. Anyway, the walk was about an hour.

I took the baby on my walk again today. We went faster so I guess it wasn't a mile but it was a good walk. The weather had started to turn so I actually headed in when we got back to get her out of the weather. Still, it felt good. Now I don't know what will happen with the weather getting colder and us being out at my in-laws and no gym to hit.

I just got home from the gym. I did 30 minutes on the stair machine - 2.90 miles, 140 flights then 30 on the elliptical - 3890 steps and 2.?? miles. That was 637 calories and 150 av hr.

Happy New Year!

I went to the gym today and did cardio:

30 minutes on the stair machine. 98 flights, 1.98 miles
30 on the elliptical: 2.46 miles, ?? steps
661 calories, 151 av hr.

I did the same on Thursday with more flights (140) but don't remember the other stats.

I was going to go to a spin class today but when I walked past the cardio room the movie 21 which I saw 30 minutes of was showing and it was about where I stopped the other day. So I went in there instead. The timing was perfect as there was 1:04 left in the movie.

So I kicked ass on the elliptical. 1:04 - 8000 steps 6.00 miles and 679 calories, 153 av. hr.

So...The gym I go to is run by our town council which is the third worst in the country. We also have one of the highest obesity rates in the country so you'd think they'd really be pushing the good people of the town to get their arses into the gym, but no. It was closed for the 22nd December till the 2nd January!!! So over the festive season I've done bugger all except eat, drink and entertain my partner's family (they stayed with us for 2 weeks).

Still I did well, I only put on 2 pounds.

So at the tail end of last week, when the gym finally opened, I did two marathon 2 hour workouts. I have a new regime: Running 30mins; work out shoulders, chest and arms, 60 reps each; cross trainer 15 mins; work out legs and abs 60 reps each.

yesterdayt the kickboxing gym opened again so I trained there for the first time in 2 weeks - they pushed us REALLY hard - we did fitness, 'the pyramid' which is a routine of jab, cross, round kick, overhand, hook, uppercut and lower evasion repeated 60,000000000000000000 times with speed and power followed by burpees and star jumps - phew...

Today I have circuits and tonight kickboxing. I want to increase my fitness dramtically - was thinking about starting running in the mornings (when the snow clears up). I want to have my first proper fight before April and we've been watching the 'Rocky' movies fthis week for inspiration ;-) Grrr - no pain!

Miller - wow. I have to say. I was at my in-laws's for 8 days as we always are and every single person I know was like, "wow. You're crazy." or "Wow. You're a bigger person than I am." You had your in-laws as guests for 2 weeks? That beats me so here's my hat and shoes and various other pieces of clothing.

Your last few days of workout sounds fantastic. You're getting hard-core. That's for sure.

I went to spin yesterday. It was a good class and I hadn't been in months but the best thing was a friend went with me. When I first invited her she was resisted to spin (because she didn't want her butt to hurt) and going at 5:30 in the morning. But she has been trying every class our gym offers and getting hard-core as well so she agreed. I think she had fun and she says that on Tuesdays when she has to go to the office, she'll come to class again.

Oh me: 563 calories. 148 av hr.

Slept in today like a big lazy.

SkipIt - thanks for the hat, shoes etc. One day, when I (and you) have five hours to spare I'll tell you all about my partner's family - let's just say that they are crazy, co-dependent and criminal. Here sis and nephew are the only ones she speaks to. They're lovely but we did reach saturation point let me tell ya.

OT yesterday did circuits class, 16 stations, 2 mins on each - almost died doing 'the plank', only got through it because instructor was yelling at me - she's the fittest woman I've ever seen . Then last night went to kickboxing - we did sweeps, throws and some groundwork - was fun, like wrestling. I was partnered with my missus - I'm quite a lot bigger than her though so it wasn't a fair match up and she dropped me on my arse a few times - ouch! Good fun though. Tonight I have regular training then sparring - if I didn't get too badly beaten I'll post tomorrow. Glad to hear you have a friend to go 'spinning' with and I give you your hat back for getting up so early, in fact take mine too (it's a fedorra)...

Miller - circuits class? Quite cool sounding. We have a class called BodyPump and I'm going to try it but I want to let the resoluters get out of the way first. Also, I'm having a problem with my thumb and not sure I can hold a dumbbell or barbell (or bowl of soup to tell the truth).

Yesterday I was lazy so I slept in (6:00) but then I left work early because I had a training in the evening and wanted to see the kids and wife. She was planning to go to the gym while I played with the kids but it was gorgeous out so I suggested a hike. So we all (wife, me, 2 kids, 2 dogs) went to the park and hiked for an hour (plus dog-siwmming, kid rock-throwing time). I wore my HRM because I was curious about it (carried baby (20 pounds) on my back about 1/2 way and son (38 pounds) on my shoulders other 1/2). It was only 363 calories but way better than nothing.

Today I went to spin class (intervals). I felt like I was slogging but it was a good hard workout. I timed ... 42 minutes and think it was 416 calories and 146 av hr. I count the whole thing, warmup, workout, warmdown, stretching as an hour.

Tomorrow = day off.

Lifted weights today for the first time since mid November. I had mono so I've been sick for a while. It felt pretty good, even though I'm sure I'll be super sore tomorrow haha
Willow: We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know... insane.

Is mono American for the flu? A friend of mine in Chicago told me she had it and I was sympathetic but didn't really know what she was on about.

OT had day off yesterday after monster sparring session on Thursday. I got punched in the nose as usual and then we learned how to hold someone if you're tired in a fight and how to get out of being held - such hard work, like wrestling. Especially when I was up against 15 stones of man. Feel a bit bad though coz I punched my friend in the eye and left a mark and also she just got a new tatoo and I forgot and punched her there too...am so sorry!

Today gym - my new 2 hour regime. I want Navratilova-esque biceps by Easter...

Mono is for Mononucleosis (sp). It's much worse than the flu and people can have it and not know or have it for months. It's contagious and has flu-like symptoms but also exhaustion. Very bad stuff.

I went today to do my cardio. 30 minutes on the stair machine (did interval rather than the aerobic setting). I think it was 98 flights but it could have been more. 2.06 miles. Then 31 on the elliptical. 3800 steps. 2.46 miles. My HRM was obviously not picking up as there were times that the machine said 165 or 167 and I felt like I was working hard but my watch said 132 or 128 or even 87. Still it totaled over 600 calories and 148 av hr.

In that case should you be lifting weights Willowandtara? Hope you're okay. The UK has been struck down this winter with a similar thing. My poor partner has had a cough/fatigue for 5 weeks now, she's hacking as we speak.

Yesterday went to gym, 2 hours. 35 mins running then worked on my arms, 5 machines, 60 reps each. Also increased weights. Then cross trainer for 25 mins followed by legs 2 machines and abs 2 machines.

Today kickboxing follwed by Sunday lunch at my parents. I have sworn off beer till April, am struggling. Thank God for gin....

I did the stair machine today. Wow. I rocked it. One hour. 6.26 miles! 300 flights. That was 699 calories which doesn't seem that much given that my av. hr was 164. Still, it was great.

I've set a deadline for myself of April to clean out my closets so I want to be a size smaller by then at least.

Skiing time!

There's about a foot of snow on the ground in Michigan now: enough for me to cross-country ski in the field next door, for my cardio.

GG Love it! Image Out

Re my lifting, I'm doing something new: lower weights, higher reps. I'm not satisfied w/ my overall physical conditioning, and will sacrifice big ol' quads (from squatting high weights, for example), for for a more toned physique (I learned that XC skiing, too: in California, at altitude, where I was huffing & puffing like Thomas the Tank Engine---rather, the Little Engine that Couldn't :happy]

I hit the stair machine again today.

60 minutes. 307 flights. 6.37 miles. 6?? calories. 161 av hr.

And believe it or not after I got home, I weighed myself and weighed more than last week. Tomorrow I'll try to remember to weigh first thing.

GG am jealous of your snow -we only had a dusting this winter and even when it snows properly it never does where I live...

SkipIt don't forget that muscle is heavy so that could be why.

Yesterday kickboxing - we did sparring - was great but I've got bloody shin splint and so am in quite a lot of pain. Need new trainers and calcium supplement.

Today circuits and then kickboxing tonight.

Short workout today - only an hour :(

25 mins treadmill, 10 mins cross trainer then worked weights on arms and abs. Bought new trainers so shin splints a little better. Also taking calcium supplements - I hate, hate, hate drinking milk so have bought some 'skinny cow' chocolate powder to make it bearable...

Well I'm glad to see everyone else keeping it up. I had a sort of mild sore throat that I didn't want to get any worse so I took off three days. Yesterday I did the stair machine at the gym. Not as good as most days but good:

271 Flights. 5.67 Miles. 710 Cal. 165 Av hr

Today the family is going hiking.

Today we went for a good hike. I walked and ran a bit, then carried Ash the last bit. I can't say it was fast enough because you can only hike so fast while urging a 5 year-old and 2 dogs to get out of the creek and avoid bikes but it was fun.

I also did all the strength and yoga exercises that I had open on our Wii fit today. That took 30 minutes. I hope to do them every 2 or 3 days. Should go with my cardio.
