To all the dear Kittens that replied to this thread: Thank you!!
I appreciate all of your words so much. They mean a lot to me and helped me through a really hard time!
My sister is doing really well now. It's been an absolute miracle!
In the first few weeks the doctors weren't sure if she would live, and if she did, what her brain function would be like. My family were being told to prepare for the worst but that we wouldn't really know until she told us. They'd been keeping her in an induced coma and we watched her closely as she came out of it, for signs of conscious behavior. It took a long time but each day she got a little more lucid. The first thing that was undeniable was the day she started nodding to us! We were so amazed!
After that, things just got better, she was given a tracheotomy, taken off the ventilator, moved to a ward, had the tracheotomy removed, and began speaking. Her hips were shattered in the accident and the brace has just been removed. She is very confused and jumbled up but that is apparently a normal part of recovery from a brain injury.
It will be a long long road but she is such a miracle and she's so strong that I know it will get better from here!
Thank you all again for everything! You're all so wonderful!
All my love,
Tara22
