Rachel - Plank! I love it. I've started doing it on the Wii and now think it's about brilliant. Talk about core.

Today I tried out this machine at the gym. It was a nice change from my usual but I couldn't tell how far or anything I went. I did it 20 minutes. Then went 45 on the elliptical which was 3.5 miles. Total was 599 calories and 140 av hr.

My goodness, look at all these buff Kittens!! :sheep Fun to see. I've been gone for a long time, trying to keep it all together and rebuild where life has fallen apart, but I'm hoping I can check in here at the Kitten a little more often now. In the time I've been away I've actually become a personal trainer. It's an off-shoot of my massage practice, being that I only work with people that are post-rehab or have some sort of permanent limitation, but it's been lots of fun. I actually have an interview tomorrow at the YWCA. They're looking for a new trainer and a "Fitness Center Consultant". That's code for someone to be there to show the new rich ladies how to use the equipment. It's flexible, just a few hours a month and helps me get my name out there. Because of life the past year my own fitness has fallen off quite a bit, but things are finally settling some and I'm back on the horse. Lifting, boxing, walking (I really hate road running) and the Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! How much do I love that thing! I used to tease massage clients when they came in with Wii soreness or a Wii related injury. Now I feel their pain! :blush I stopped playing football (American) and really wanted to play rugby, but my ortho told me that if I was going to be insistent on subjecting my wrecked shoulders to more punishment of that sort, I'd have to find a new doctor.

I'm debating it. :sh

Deb, is the plank thing anything like Bosu Balls? If I had a Wii Fit, I'd probably never leave my room save to go to class and work.

Did you know your hips could hurt? They can! Who knew?

TTG: Good to see you here! Wii sounds like fun, so do massages.

Was in Prague for a week last week. Czech beer is really good (and cheap) so I excercised my liver more than anything. but still managed to run every morning and walked miles so all in all a fab week.

Back to the grindstone this week though - I have training tonight....

I played basketball with my 12 year-old half brother yesterday.

While wearing heels.

That counts for something, doesn't it?

Trom - Congrats on becoming a personal trainer. That's awesome. So we're getting some Wii Fans. I'll look forward to seeing you around more.

Rach - Well heck. I can't find a good picture or video. Basically you rest your elbows on the ground (or hands) and put your feet back like you're going to do a push up but just hold steady and contract your abs. If it's not hard, I didn't describe it well.

Miller - sounds fun if not fit.

Saturday I was at the in-laws's so I went for a 1:15 walk on the country roads. Damn, that makes my back hurt. Today I did 15 minutes on the Wave machine again (2.04 miles) and then 45 on the elliptical (3.75 miles? 5700 steps?). Total of 599 calories. 147 av hr.

Deb- oh, ha! I visualized the plank as some sort of pirate move. Dunno what I was thinking. Yes, plank, we did that. On carpet. I still have rug burn on my elbows.

Today I did the Wave machine again. I'm getting better at going faster and timing it. I went 15 minutes which was 3.5 KM. Then 45 on the elliptical which was 5700 steps, 3.65 miles. Total of 610 calories and 151 av hr. Tomorrow morning I meet up with my new workout-buddy (old buddy, new workout buddy when she wants to get up early) to do the same.

Miller - I hear you about work. At my work we are supposed to meet our deadlines even if we're instructed to spend a day (or six) on another project. They'd have me working Saturdays if they could but I basically don't volunteer unless ordered.

Anyway, yesterday I did the Wave machine again for 15 minutes and 3.50 km. Then to the Elliptical for 45 minutes. I felt like I went very fast but I accidentally hit reset and didn't start my watch again so I have no stats on it. I think today the family is taking a bike ride later on.

The weather is finally starting to turn toward the better here, so I've been outside the last few days walking the dog. Spent about an hour on a trail in a local preserve yesterday and about 40 minutes walking along the levy today. We would've been out longer but the wind was horrible. I burned extra calories walking in near-60 mile an hour gusts though, right? :smug My heart monitor can't possibly be functioning right unfortunately. At one point it started going crazy telling me my heart was beating 254 times a minute. I don't think so, tornadic conditions or not. So, I'll have to replace that. I love it. It makes workouts so much more efficient! My weight room has been trashed by people that are not me, but I've been itching to lift again, so I think I'll go work on that this evening.

Well since you'd be having a cardiac event at that rate, it probably wasn't working right. Have you tried replacing the battery? If it's a polar you probably have to send it in but even so that would be cheaper than buying a new HRM.

We went for a family bike ride today to the park and back. I kind of expected and wanted it to be harder than it was. Riding there I had both kids in the trailer and then coming home I had both most of the way and then Rachel took the baby and I just had Ash. Rachel had told me, "oh just wait. It's so hard coming home. It will take 35-45 minutes..." It took 20. I could have used a harder ride. Still, 42 minutes. 410 calories. I forgot to go look at av hr.

I ellipticaled yesterday. 60 minutes. 5.06 miles (woo hoo!) 7400 steps. 527 or 547 or something calories. Only 137 av hr which was strange because I felt like I was really working.

I feel like I'm losing inches. I tried on my 12s yesterday and I could button them if I didn't want to breathe which is an improvement. I've scheduled a closet clean-out for the week of April 21 so I want to be in my 12s and out of my 14s and get rid of the 14s. You know?

Another 40 minutes walk with the dog between the rain drops and between clients. The heart monitor seemed to be working okay today. I've started taking my carotid pulse after checking it on the monitor just to make sure it's close. Mostly kept in the low end of my target heart range and knocked out around 400 calories. The weight room is still a catastrophe. Slowly but surely though.

First time back at the gym since I got sick and it was nice! I went an unusual 8pm, but I got my 40 minutes on a cross-trainer and didn't cough up any phlegm. Not once :) And, I got lots of studying done while I was there, instead of watching TV.

I was so tired but I got up and went to the gym today anyway. 30 minutes on the stair machine. 94 flights. 1.96 miles which isn't really a fast time for me but it was ok. Then I did 35 minutes on the elliptical. I totally ran my little ass off and was all ready to see my miles but apparently that program just resets it self after 30 minutes (I had a magazine covering the output) so who knows how far I went? Stupid. Also, my HRM was fine through workout but when I went to check stats was screwed up again. I really think that now that I've changed my battery and had it screw up and repeated that... I need to get a new HRM. I don't want to spend the money but this is totally frustrating.

Sunday we walked around the Rodeo grounds for about 3 hours. I had Ash on my shoulders a good part of that time. Yesterday I finally went to the Body Pump class at my gym. It's like an hour-long lifting with music. It was much better and a harder workout than I expected. My legs are sore! I plan to try to go 2x a week to build some muscle. Today I expected to go do stairs and elliptical with my friend but the baby and Rachel were up most of the night sick and Ash was up from 4:00 on so I couldn't go.

I did 30 minutes on the wave machine today which was 8.15 miles (WTF?) then 30 minutes on the elliptical which was 3700 steps and 2.37 miles.

In even better news, I posted on my fb status a request for HRM recommendations since mine is no more and my BIL wrote to offer me his which he says he never uses. It's a Polar and I don't know which model but I bet it is fine for me.

Well on Tuesday night I was training (kickboxing) and we were doing street self defence. We were doing moves I have done a million times before but my other half, who usually comes with me, didn't come and so I was working with someone I've bever worked with before. Without wishing to sound unkind she's not the sharpest tool in the box either.

So we were supposed to rear leg round kick, the other person catches the kick, grabs your belt SECURELY and then sweeps your other leg away, simultaneously lowering you to the ground.

My partner grabbed my leg, and then swept the other leg away without grabbing my belt so I hit the deck hard and have badly bruised all the muscles in my lower back and around my spine. Thankfully my doctor prescribed some kick ass meds and so now I lying on my sofa as high as a kite watching Buffy season 6 (I know, I know but it really is the best one - aside from the event that shall not be named.)

I could kill Tuesday's partner - I have too much to do to be off my legs, including a grading in 2 weeks!

Grrr!

Miller - that's really awful. It's one of the things that I find most disturbing: when someone else's negligence or ineptitude causes me hurt. It's so pointless and lasting.

GG - What are peepers?

The family has been sick although so far I've avoided it. Now both kids seem better but my wife is still sick. Anyway, I've missed a few workouts because of it.

Today I did Stair machine 20 minutes. 1.41 miles. 67 flights.
Elliptical 60 minutes. 8000 steps. 5.16 miles.

Thanks for the well wishes SkipIt...still not allowed to train or do any exercise - boo!

My partner is also ill - was sick all of yesterday but went to work - against my wishes that we lie around watching L Word Season 6 all day....

OT nothing to report - can't even touch my toes :(

I went to body pump yesterday. It is a good class. Luckily the gym is adding a Friday class next week which will mean I can be more flexible in hitting 2 of 3 M/W/F classes.

Today - nothing because we stayed up too late watching BSG. Three episodes to go.

Woo hoo for shoulders killing you.

I did cardio yesterday morning: 38 minutes on the Wave Machine (was waiting for an episode of Angel to end so I could switch machines). That was 10.15 miles I think. Then moved to an elliptical for 22 minutes. Forget the miles/steps. I used my new/used HRM and the calories seemed kind of low and HR seemed very low. Cal = 433 and av hr = 127. When I looked at the readoiut on the machines the lowest it said was 138 and highest was 155. Considering that the HRM said my high was 216 (wtf), I don't have a lot of confidence in it.
