Very sad indeed. Just listening to that track brings back my entire senior year in high school. Those years were all about Whitney and Michael for me. I had all her albums. In fact, I went searching for my Whitney albums tonight and could only find one on cd...the rest were all on cassette tapes.

Donna Summer died

Postby T.G.I.F. » Thu May 17, 2012 9:29 am

I just heard that Donna Summer died? I'm just a little bit in shock, I mean, she was like my disco queen. Not that I do disco, but I like it. And I liked her music. But I can't find any relevant news on it, not yet. On how she died or something.

Well, I think it's sad.

So MacArthur Park, just once again.

The great Ray Bradbury died today in LA at 91.
I loved his mixture of horror, fantasy, science and human nature. His short stories were fantastic. But oddly the one that I remembered first was "The Toybee confector". Its about a scientist who fakes a trip to the future to reassure the people of the present it will be all right, and the he hope he gives people is enough to make it happen. I cannot think of a better description of a science fiction writer than that.
Edited to add this was add this was Amber Bensons post on the topic...

Oh, Ray Bradbury, without you I'd just be another Alabama housewife gazing up at the stars and wondering: "What if?"

Isn't it sad to have to post in this thread?

Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls is dead. "I Touch Myself" came out at a very good time in my life, and in reading about her today I was just as shocked to learn that song came out twenty years ago ... Twenty years? Honestly, that can't be right. She was something to see back in the day.

I know this is old, but the man that wrote the lyrics that inspired this thread's title has died.

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist, writer and founder of the Doors, died on May 20th.

Allow me to add the sobering thought that 60's rock stars are dying of completely normal causes in a normal life span.

All of my employees are under the age of 30 and when I mentioned that Ray Manzarek died, I was met with a resounding, "Who?" So, I explained who he was, The Doors, Jim Morrison...nothing but blank stares. *sighs* It was a sobering experience and I thought it would make me feel old, but it actually made me sad. Sad because their taste in music doesn't go much beyond The Harlem Shake and they're really missing out.

Cory Montheith . . . he seemed so real, such a genuinely loveable guy. And maybe that was his art and his curse, able to hide his pain so well that no one really saw it in time. . . . Then again no one knows what happen. Rest easy, big guy. A lot of us loved what you did.

In one of those "circle of life" moments, I realized that all the people who remember seeing Shirley Temple when she first came out are already dead. Weird, huh?
