The great Ray Bradbury died today in LA at 91.
I loved his mixture of horror, fantasy, science and human nature. His short stories were fantastic. But oddly the one that I remembered first was "The Toybee confector". Its about a scientist who fakes a trip to the future to reassure the people of the present it will be all right, and the he hope he gives people is enough to make it happen. I cannot think of a better description of a science fiction writer than that.
Edited to add this was add this was Amber Bensons post on the topic...
Oh, Ray Bradbury, without you I'd just be another Alabama housewife gazing up at the stars and wondering: "What if?"
