Oh Cam, you are the Queen!

Sorry for the lateness, but I'm just getting caught up, and I'm so glad I did. You had me laughing so hard I had to put on the Depends (again). You are so talented, I bow (on my soft, cushiony pillows) before you. Damn my old, arthritic knees.

Anyway, you are such a joy to read over and over. Glad to see there's going to be a three-quel to Dopey. I can't wait to see what you have for us next. Keep 'em coming and coming and coming.

This is hilarious! What a great way for Willow and Tara to meet. And I absolutely love the two slayers together, fighting then drinking like chums. Can't wait to see what happens in the other dimension. And of course, how W/T continue to evolve. Thanks!

Holy crap, what's this doing back up on page 1? Thanks for the continued support, everyone.

In response to Arielle and notl33t, the first 2 Dopeygayland stories are here in their entirety. The third installment is still planned, but I don't know when I will get around to writing it. Whenever it does appear, it will be continued in this thread.

Thanks!

I've just started reading this fic and it's brilliant and so funny, I love Willow's chat up line to Tara, "Hi Tara, I'm Willow wanna snuggle." Its brilliant i love it. I can just imagine Willow saying that too.

Really would love to see much more of this.

Excellent balance between sweetness, sensuality and humour. And sex. My only complaint is that Slayer-Tara seems a little too different. I mean, the only difference between her and Tara is that Slayer-Tara was imbued with Slayer strength at one point in her life. (And... maybe that she's a student at Sunnydale High) She'd still be a little granola-y, right? At least, inside? You've had one or two lines showing her being nice, and I get the humour, and how confident she would've become and all, but I'm just saying. . .

Oh. Also, how're Xander and Larry doing? I'd really love nothing more than for you to do a continuation. The musical would be interesting... do you play any instruments?

Funny how this thread keeps popping up at yearly intervals, and it's never far from my thoughts.

Leilani: I apologize for the late fb reply, but thanks for your comments, and more will appear...possibly even this year.[br]
MiniShrink:
Excellent balance between sweetness, sensuality and humour. And sex. My only complaint is that Slayer-Tara seems a little too different. I mean, the only difference between her and Tara is that Slayer-Tara was imbued with Slayer strength at one point in her life. (And... maybe that she's a student at Sunnydale High) She'd still be a little granola-y, right? At least, inside? You've had one or two lines showing her being nice, and I get the humour, and how confident she would've become and all, but I'm just saying. . .

I started this as a 3-part stand-alone short, and never intended it to be a character study in any way...I think I used the term "total frivolity" as a guiding principle. That said, I can see your conundrum, but I would argue that being a Slayer would make a huge difference, just as a vampire Willow is extremely different from regular Willow (at least at that point in the canon, and I'm not sending her down the same path she traveled on the show).[br]
As far as Tara's differences, first off imagine how different her home life might have been...though we only saw a brief glimpse, I assumed that the meek girl who was too shy to voice her thought once the Wicca group focused on her was evident of someone who had become accustomed to 'disappearing' as a survival strategy. Even after she became one of the gang, the only time I remember her taking charge was when they lost their memories in Tabula Rasa. Clearly she had it in her to be a leader, but was suppressing it out of deference to the more established members of the group. As with just about everything in Dopey, I took the idea that she had the ability and just cranked it up to the max.[br]
I came at her character (insofar as I thought about it all) from the perspective that once she realized she was the Chosen One, and had Giles and Wes as Watchers, she'd leave her stinkin' family and be more or less independent, a la Faith. We also have the example of Buffy, who in flashback was shown to be a budding Cordelia at her old school before being given a higher calling, so to speak. And yeah, Buffy certainly maintained her interest in boys and shopping, but interests and degrees of interest naturally change over time. This is a Tara who isn't a witch; she's a Slayer. I think a lot of Tara's 'granola' aspects come from her Wiccan upbringing, and without that, she is bound to be different, and I wanted her to be...hence the fun of such radically divergent worlds.[br]
The third story (the musical) will deal with some of these issues, at least in how they relate to Vamp Willow/Slayer Tara's relationship. Again, it's primary meant to be an irreverent romp of silliness, but I really appreciate your comments, and hope my explanation makes some kind of sense.[br]
As for your other remarks, I haven't given Xander and Larry much thought, and don't know if they'll be appearing in the next installment. Maybe a cameo. I do not play instruments (6 years of trumpet in middle school/high school and not the least improvement over the course), nor do I sing (not around people, anyway). I have a 25+ year fondness for changing song lyrics, however. Allen Sherman is my yogi. :) [br][br]
To everyone still following along, or new to the Dopey series, I am actively working on the musical. 8 songs are complete, and another 10 or so are in various stages of skewerdom. They're the thing slowing me down, and I don't want to start posting until I have a complete first draft, so it's going to be a while yet. I hope it'll be worth the wait. Thank you.

Always game for chit chat, Car. As for writing, I think I should be firm and say no Dopey for you until you finish Coming Back. Or you could come up to the 'hood and we could torture Ang by singing all the songs.

Even though it's been 2 flippin' years waiting for an update... it's so worth the wait, and I've never given up hope! But dang, this is torture, you know that, right, Cam?

The Chronicles of Dopeygayland

Postby tarawhipped » Sun Mar 21, 2010 8:50 am

Title: The Chronicles of Dopeygayland
Author: tarawhipped (Cameron)
Email: tarawhipped@hotmail.com
Rating: R
Disclaimer: All characters are the property of Joss Whedon/Mutant Enemy.
Feedback: Always welcome.
Distribution: Please ask first.
Notes: 1. It would probably help to have read the first two in the series. If you haven’t, please do so now. We’ll wait. *hums*
2. For songs sung by multiple people, I had to settle for a pseudo ‘screenplay’ format (pseudo since I don’t really know the proper way) to make it clear who was singing when. I hope it’s not too cumbersome.
3. Song credits (music/original lyrics) will be posted at the end of each chapter.
4. I tried to stick with fairly well known songs, but if anyone needs a refresher on a tune, I’m sure most, if not all of them are available on YouTube in some version or other. Due to the frequency of broken links, I’m not posting any.
Thanks and dedication: Thanks to Car and Watty for all the inspiration and encouragement throughout the DGL series. My gratitude to all the Kittens who have read and commented on this and my other stories.[br]
This is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Allan Sherman, whose album My Son, the Nut forever shaped my sense of humor.[br][br][br]

[center]Dopeygayland 3: The Musical![/center][br][br]

Prologue[br][br]

previously on Dopeygayland…[br][br]

The furniture had been pushed aside, the ingredients prepared, Anya’s necklace returned with a stern warning. Hugs had been exchanged, several with inappropriate gropes, and two still tipsy promises to get together again sometime. Giles recited from an ancient text while Anyanka focused her power to open a portal, which opened in a flash of light and blowing wind. Slayer Tara took her pet’s hand and walked toward the swirling mass.[br]
“Hey,” Buffy stated, patting her jeans. “What happened to the Gem of Amara?”[br]
Tara reached into her pocket and frowned. Vamp Willow grinned wickedly and held out her hand, where the ring sparkled in the dancing light of the portal.[br]
“You mean this one?” she asked coyly, wiggling her fingers.[br]
Buffy leapt forward, tackling the vampire and sending them both into the abyss.[br]
“Buffy!” Willow shouted, diving in after her best friend without hesitation.[br]
“Willow!” Tara echoed, throwing herself in after her new girlfriend.[br]
“What the fuck?” the remaining Slayer said, charging after the group.[br]
“Bloody hell,” Giles exclaimed with an exhausted sigh, walking hesitantly up to the barrier until it enveloped him and folded in upon itself.[br]
Anyanka brushed her hands together, nodding once in satisfaction.[br]
“Thank God that’s over with,” she stated, plopping down on the couch and turning on the tv.[br][br][br]
Meanwhile, in an identical living room in another dimension…[br][br][br]
“More tea, anyone?” Giles inquired, trying to ignore the sound of teeth gnawing on bone. [br]
“No thanks, G.,” Faith replied after a long belch. “You got any more of that pie?”[br]
“I’m afraid not,” he answered with a tight smile. “Buffy inhaled the last piece before starting on the gelato.”[br]
Wesley stood and began stacking the mounds of dishes on the dining room table. Faith reached out and grabbed a half eaten roll from the plate on top, nearly upsetting the entire pile. He turned away with a barely concealed grimace and hurried to the kitchen.[br]
“Let me help you,” Giles blurted out, rushing after his irate partner.[br]
“Why must you keep inviting them to dinner?” Wesley hissed as soon as they rounded the corner. “It’s like watching a pack of starving hyenas!”[br]
Giles couldn’t help but agree with the apt appraisal.[br]
“I’m so sorry, darling. On the bright side, at least they appreciate your marvelous cooking.”[br]
“Not that they paused to savor anything,” Wesley sniped. “You’d think they were each giving birth to quintuplets the way they’re at it.” The pair peeked around the corner just in time to see Buffy and Faith locked in a tug of war over the last spare rib.[br]
“They should be leaving soon, and then I’ll make it up to you,” Giles promised.[br]
Wesley smiled and gave him a quick kiss.[br]
“I’ll hold you to that. After this meal I need a nice quiet, relaxing evening.”[br]
Just as they rejoined their gluttonous guests, a blazing light and blowing wind centered in midair over the living room brought the Watchers to a standstill. Even Buffy and Faith paused in their chewing to stare as a portal opened up and began dropping bodies in a pile on the antique sideboard, which splintered and collapsed with a loud crack.[br]
“The credenza!” Wesley shrieked.[br]
The people on the floor slowly disengaged their tangled limbs as the swirling mass above them imploded with a final burst of wind and flash of light. In the commotion, one of the newcomers slinking silently out the door went almost unnoticed.[br]
“Good Lord,” the Gileses intoned as one, removing their glasses to peer at each other.[br]
“Hey, she looks like me!” Buffy commented through a mouthful of rib, pointing the bone at her counterpart.[br]
The Slayer looked at her twin, aghast. “About fifty pounds ago, maybe,” she sputtered.[br]
“Watch your mouth, blondie,” Faith warned as she put a protective arm around her partner’s shoulders and leaned in to peck her cheek. “Don’t listen to her baby, you look beautiful.”[br]
“Oh my god, it’s true,” the Slayer continued. “You two are…Will, this is where you…and everyone was…and Giles…and Wesley!”[br]
“Wait…shouldn’t you have given birth by now?” Willow asked the pregnant pair.[br]
“Any day now,” Buffy smiled, rubbing her belly.[br]
“But it’s been months!”[br]
“You hit your head again, Red? We saw you two weeks ago,” Faith replied.[br]
“Okay!” Tara exclaimed, clapping her hands for attention. “Welcome to my dimension. You all more or less know each other, so I think we can skip the introductions. For you newcomers: everybody’s gay and time apparently moves slower here.”[br]
“Tara, I assume you can explain why the five of you just dropped through a portal into our living room,” Giles said with just a hint of exasperation.[br]
“Breaking a very valuable antique in the process,” Wesley muttered.[br]
“Sure thing, G-man. Well, Willow and I…wait. Five of us? Who’s missing?”[br]
“An antique that has been in my family for generations,” the disgruntled Watcher continued.[br]
“Willow left,” Buffy supplied, giggling as Faith helpfully licked the barbeque sauce from her mouth and chin.[br]
“Dammit!” Tara shouted, sprinting to the door.[br]
“Dare I ask what’s she done now?” Giles asked.[br]
“Apparently she has the Gem of Amara,” his twin replied.[br]
“She’s gone,” Tara reported as she walked back into the apartment.[br]
The explosive argument that followed consisted of a great deal of recriminations, accusations, protestations, and name-calling. It finally ended when one agitated voice rose above the rest.[br]
“HEY!”[br]
The group paused as one and looked at Faith.[br]
“Are you sure there’s no more pie?”[br]
“Look, I know I fucked up, and you can bitch at me all you want later,” Tara said to the Watchers. “We’ll split up, find her, and send the Gem back with these guys.”[br]
“A sound plan,” Giles agreed. “But I’m not sure having multiple versions of people running around is a good idea. People know Willow as a vampire, which could put this girl in danger," he explained, gesturing toward the redhead. "Unless of course…”[br]
“Nope, not a vampire,” Willow supplied with a smile.[br]
“They can handle themselves,” the other Giles replied. “Willow has been fighting alongside Buffy for years—”[br]
Buffy is your Slayer?” Wesley asked, incredulously.[br]
“Got a problem with that?” the diminutive blonde challenged.[br]
“No, none at all. So then…Tara?” he inquired, looking at the woman who had so far remained half hidden behind Willow.[br]
The shy blonde shook her head and smiled shyly.[br]
“Extraordinary,” Giles mumbled. He shook his head. “Still, it is a bit…different here. I wouldn’t want them to feel discomfited.”[br]
“Oh come on,” Buffy scoffed, striding to the front door. “How different can it be?”[br]
She flung open the door to find seemingly all of Giles and Wesley’s neighbors gathered in the courtyard. As the newcomers watched in stunned fascination, the group began to sing.[br][br]
[center]Dopeygayland! (to the tune of “Oklahoma!” from Oklahoma!)[/center][br][br]
[blockquote]“Dopeygayland,
Where the queens go swishing down the lanes.
Where the boys you meet,
Are all so sweet,
In their leather, taffeta, or chains.[br]
Dopeygayland,
Is the home to lesbians galore.
Whether butch or femme,
Even androgyne,
They will always leave you wanting more.[br]
Dopeygayland,
Once you visit, you will long to stay.
Tea dance with your pals,
Potluck with the gals,
It's a gay time each and ev'ry day!”[/blockquote][br][br]
Willow stepped forward, closed the door, and turned to wag an accusing finger at Buffy.[br]

OMG - words cannot express how much I love seeing you back on here! It is just fantabulous.

As far as this update, your humor is beyond compare. We have everyone here together, except for wild Vamp Willow who has skeedaddled with the ring. I cannot wait to see how much more different this world is even beyond the singing.

Glad to have you back, Cam! More soon please.

oh, it' so awesome you've returned to this. the occasion called for a reread and without any hesitation, DGL is one of the funniest and most ridiculous (in a good way) fics I've ever read. Plus the sexy. Sexy always good.

PancakesinBellies: Thank you so much. It’s nice to see folks still interested after all this time.[br]
umgaynow: Thanks, Sandi. It’s good to be back![br]
AmberGoddess: Thank you. I hope you continue to enjoy it.[br]
EasierSaid: Your posting Neverland updates inspired (well…shamed, really, but let’s not split hairs) me to get back to work. And then you have to go and bring up that other story…*runs off crying* Okay, I’m back. Glad you liked the “over-the-top, campy, gayed-up” lyrics since it’s only getting sillier. Thank you.[br]
Willowtree252: I’m glad to be back, and that you’ve enjoyed the start. Congrats on Your Modness, btw.[br]
willowtaralover: Aww, the kissyface smilie! Thanks for coming along for the crazy. More to come.[br]
taralicious: My apologies to your dad, Blayne. Would you believe I’ve never actually seen Oklahoma!? I have a serious aversion to Howard Keel and don’t know why. But I love making up my own version to songs, and this one practically wrote itself. Thanks![br]
wimpy0729: Thank you, Pam. So good to see you here, and I hope this lives up to expectations.[br]
Psy: I’m glad to be back. Writing again has been a real treat. Feel free to burst into song as much as you want.[br]
Zooeys_Bridge: Thank you. I’ve always wanted to return to this, but didn’t want to start it until I had most of the songs written. I’ve had more fun working on this one than anything else, so I hope you like it.[br]
cantiemedown: I don’t want to reveal too much about vamp Willow, since all will be answered in due time, but I like to think of her as a nonconformist teenager with a healthy mix of ‘question authority’ and ‘fuck your rules’ attitude, i.e. the teenager I never had the guts to be. I’m glad you liked the Oklahoma! interpretation, and hope you enjoy the rest.[br][br][br]

Title: The Chronicles of Dopeygayland
Author: tarawhipped (Cameron)
Email: tarawhipped@hotmail.com
Rating: R
Disclaimer: All characters are the property of Joss Whedon/Mutant Enemy.
Feedback: Always welcome.
Distribution: Please ask first.
Notes: 1. For songs sung by multiple people, I had to settle for a pseudo ‘screenplay’ format (pseudo since I don’t really know the proper way) to make it clear who was singing when. I hope it’s not too cumbersome.
2. Song credits (music/original lyrics) will be posted at the end of each chapter.
3. I tried to stick with fairly well known songs, but if anyone needs a refresher on a tune, I’m sure most, if not all of them are available on YouTube in some version or other. Due to the frequency of broken links, I’m not posting any.[br][br][br]

[center]Dopeygayland 3: The Musical![/center][br][br]
Act I, Scene 1[br][br][br]
“It’s a demon!” Buffy exclaimed.[br]
“It could be a spell,” Tara surmised.[br]
“Yes, I suppose it could be,” Giles mused, just as the other Giles scoffed “Don’t be ridiculous.” The pair glared at each other, while Wesley looked back and forth between the two with rising curiosity.[br]
“Giles is right,” Tara stated.[br]
“Thank you, Tara” they both replied.[br]
“You’re welcome,” both Taras answered.[br]
“Okay, first order of business: names,” Willow declared. “There’s too many twos to choose who’s who.”[br]
“Come again, Red?”[br]
Knowing she could never repeat the comment without tongue-tripping, Willow ignored Faith and continued.[br]
“Maybe one of you could go by Rupert?”[br]
“I am not calling my Watcher ‘Rupert,’” Buffy insisted.[br]
“I’ll be Rupert,” the other Watcher agreed magnanimously.[br]
“And I suppose I could be Anne,” Buffy offered.[br]
“Oh! I want to be Anne!” the other asserted. “Please, please, please?”[br]
“Go for it.”[br]
“Great, two down. Now…Taras? Got a middle name”[br]
“’Fraid not,” the Slayer said, while the other Tara shook her head.[br]
“Nicknames?”[br]
“Kitten calls me Mistress. I guess you could—”[br]
“How about Mac?” Willow interrupted. “For Maclay?”[br]
“That’ll work,” the Slayer decided with a nod.[br]
“Now that that’s settled,” Giles said, “can we get back to more pressing issues? The peculiarly spontaneous singing and dancing for starters.”[br]
“That was definitely high on the oddness scale,” Willow agreed.[br]
“Not at all,” Rupert maintained.[br]
“Perfectly normal here,” Anne added.[br]
“Yeah, Willow…don’t you remember?” Mac asked, smirking at the redhead.[br][br]
Some months prior…[br][br]
[center]I Enjoy Eating a Girl (to the tune of “I Enjoy Being a Girl” from Flower Drum Song)[/center][br][br]
[blockquote]“I could get really used to this.
Love how Tara’s toes start to curl.
My head ‘twixt her thighs, I’m in bliss!
I enjoy eating a girl!”[/blockquote][br][br]
“Hey, shouldn’t we be focusing on finding Vamp me and getting that ring back?” Willow demanded.[br]
“Indeed,” Rupert stated. “I can’t believe you’d be so careless, Mac.”[br]
“This was bound to happen sooner or later,” Wesley argued. “We’ve told you time and again not to trust her and now she’s proven our fears justified.”[br]
“She’s just acting out,” Mac replied dismissively. “It’s a game to her. It’s not like she’s really dangerous, for God’s sake.”[br]
Rupert slammed his fist down on the kitchen table, making the remaining dishes and everyone in the room jump.[br]
“But she is and you damn well know it!”[br]
[center](How Do You Solve a Problem Like a) Vampire (to the tune of “Maria” from The Sound of Music)[/center][br][br]
Rupert: [blockquote]“She bites a guy and makes him cry,
She doesn't even care.”[/blockquote]
Wesley:[blockquote]“She drags the screaming maidens
To her nasty vampire lair.”[/blockquote]
Buffy:[blockquote]“And underneath her leather
She's not wearing underwear.”[/blockquote]
Willow, Tara, Anne, Faith:[blockquote]“I've even seen her ogling my girlfriend.”[/blockquote][br]
Rupert: [blockquote]“She's always been a killer,
But you think you've made her tame.”[/blockquote]
Wesley:[blockquote]“She'd turn you in a heartbeat
And kill all of us the same.”[/blockquote]
Rupert: [blockquote]“And deep inside you know
You only have yourself to blame.”[/blockquote]
Wesley & Rupert:[blockquote]“The Slayer shouldn't have a vampire girlfriend.”[/blockquote][br]
Mac (spoken)[blockquote]“I'd like to interrupt the bags of gas.
Kiss my Slayer ass.”[/blockquote][br]
All but Mac:[blockquote]“How do you solve a problem like a vampire?
How do you make a naughty vampire good?
How do you dare control a wayward vampire?”[/blockquote]
Faith:[blockquote]“With decapitation?”[/blockquote]
Anne:[blockquote]“With holy water?”[/blockquote]
Buffy (holding stake):[blockquote]“With wood.”[/blockquote][br]
All but Mac:[blockquote]“Many a time you know she's tried to test you.
Many a time she's tried to have her way.
So how do you keep her still,
When instinct tells her to kill?
She always finds new ways to misbehave.[br]
Oh, how do you solve a problem like a vampire?
How do you make a vampire pet behave?”[/blockquote][br]
Mac:[blockquote]“When I'm with her I'm turned on,
I'm a horny Slayer dom.
And you all have to admit that she is fine.”[/blockquote]
Rupert: [blockquote]“She is vicious, she is vile,
And you're simply in denial.”[/blockquote]
Mac:[blockquote]“She's a vixen!”[/blockquote]
Wesley:[blockquote]“She's a demon!”[/blockquote]
Mac:[blockquote]“She is mine!”[/blockquote][br]
Rupert: [blockquote]“But you simply can't ignore
That she's rotten to the core,
And she never will be any other way.”[/blockquote]
Wesley:[blockquote]“She is wicked, she is bad.”[/blockquote]
Mac:[blockquote]“She's the best I ever had.”[/blockquote]
Wesley:[blockquote]“She is evil!”[/blockquote]
Anne:[blockquote]“She is skanky!”[/blockquote]
Buffy:[blockquote]“She is gay!”[/blockquote][br][br]
Everyone stops and stares at Buffy.[br]
“Sorry.”[br][br]
All but Mac:[blockquote]“Oh, how do you solve a problem like a vampire?”[/blockquote]
Mac (wistful):[blockquote]“How can I make my vampire pet behave?”[/blockquote][br][br]
“Seriously…anyone?” Mac said. “I’m at the end of my rope. I meant to go by the hardware store earlier to buy more but got sidetracked, and we still had the chains, so—”[br]
“Maybe we should just head out,” Willow suggested to everyone’s relief.[br]
It was decided that Willow and Buffy would take the center of town, while the two Taras checked out some of the vampire’s usual haunts. Anne and Faith agreed to track down Anyanka, and Giles reluctantly acquiesced to staying put with his fellow Watchers and researching the Gem of Amara.[br]
“Be careful,” Rupert warned. “This ring is the Holy Grail to vampires. She won’t give it up willingly.”[br]
“I’m telling you guys, she’s just trying to get my attention,” Mac insisted.[br]
“I expect you to give her your utmost attention, Mac,” Wesley said seriously. “And if she resists in any way, I expect you to put her down.”[br]
“It’s not going to come to that,” she replied.[br]
“And if it does?” Rupert asked.[br]
The grandfather clock in the corner ticked off the seconds as Mac met the grave faces of her Watchers with steely eyes. At length she dropped her gaze and turned to the door. With her hand on the knob, she spoke in a low, clear voice.[br]
“I’ll do what I have to. I’m the Slayer.”[br][br]

Ah, West Side Story... how much I loved that one as a tween. /romantic sigh Great update, as usual Cam. You have a flare for the lyric changes; they're funny, they fit and they flooooow. (That's me breaking into song.) Only one suggestion and I think you've taken care of it somewhat with this update; the double names are hard for this very sleep deprived mom to follow, so any help for when each Buffy, Tara, etc. is speaking at any given time would be awesome. (Seriously, I almost fell asleep in a restaurant tonight. I'd say my date wasn't impressed, but she was too sleepy to notice.)

And bwahaha about the Neverland updates nudging you back into this thing—too funny. I shouldn't be the only one to come in from the wilderness, or the cold, or that sweet resting place that hibernating fic writers go when they and their stories are "on a break." ;) (Have you ever seen that video about Charlie the unicorn? When I read your reply all I could think was, "Shun the non-believer, Shhhuuuunnn." Why? I have no idea.) And please do know I was joking about that... other... story. I truly am one of those freaks who can appreciate the incomplete. If you ever finish it, super, if you don't, no pressure at all - it's still wonderful and imagination fodder.
