~Part 8b~Hadley was sitting, and waiting patiently at the kitchen table. Her friends Lily and Mikey were making small jokes, as the grown-ups got the cake, ice cream, plates, forks, and drinks in order.
“Hadley, where’s your daddy?” Lily asked, noticing that there was no male in sight.
“My daddy?” Hadley questioned. She never really thought about it, her mama always told her that her daddy just couldn’t be a part of her life, because he never wanted to make time. Although the truth was that Jason could care-less about it. In fact, when he first saw the baby, he figured that she wasn’t his because she never even looked like him. And that’s the way Tara wanted it.
“Yeah, I’ve never met him before. Did he and your mama got brokened up?” Lily was curious.
“I don’t have a daddy Lily, I only have a mommy.” Hadley said cheerily. “She’s all I’ll ever need.”
“Is Willow your other mother?” Mikey asked, giggling.
“Not yet.” Hadley whispered to them.
“So what are you kiddies talking about?” Dawn sat down at the table with the three small bodies.
“Mama…and Willow.” Hadley answered honestly.
“I see….how about you three go wash up before cake and ice cream ok? You don’t want to sick from the germs and stuff all over your hands.” Dawn smiled.
“If we wash…you and Aunt Tori wash…” Hadley held out her small hand for Dawn to grab. Tori caught that, and she grabbed Dawn’s other hand, smiling as she followed this small group to the bathroom.
“Children and their curious minds.” Willow smiled as she stood next to Tara putting the candles in the cake. “Mind you…when I was their age, I was always so curious.”
“Really…what kinds of things were you curious about?” Tara smirked, sorting out the small plates.
“Science stuff mostly.” Willow responded. “It’s something about science…I don’t know, it always gets everybody curious at one point.”
“I know, this one time, when I was younger, I heard a blonde joke.” Tara began, “It was about the sun and planets.”
“Don’t think I’ve ever heard that one.” Willow looked at Tara, urging her to continue.
“OK, well, there’s this blonde, red head, and brunette. A guy goes up to each one, and asks them a question, ‘if you could visit any planet, what one, and why?’, so the brunette answers him, ‘I’d choose Mars, just to see the red planet.’ So the guy nods his head in agreement, he goes to the brunette, and she answers, ‘I’d definitely go to Saturn so I can run laps around the ring.’ Again the guy nods in agreement. Finally he reaches the blonde and asks her the same question, ‘if you could visit any planet, what one and why?’ the blonde thinks for moment, then her eyes lit up, ‘Oh, I’d go to the sun.’ The guy looks at her confused, ‘miss…if you were to ever step anywhere near the sun, you’d burn to the crisp and lose your eyesight quickly.’ The blonde laughs like he’s crazy, ‘Of course, that’s why I’d turn it off.’” Tara bent her head down. “When I heard that joke, I told my mother I’d turn off the sun too. I never realized I’d actually fall for it.”
Willow laughed and looked at Tara, “You actually thought you could turn off the sun by a light switch?”
“Hey, I was curious, and I was persistent to see the universe from the Sun’s view.” Tara defended herself.
“Aww, I’m sorry baby.” Willow hugged Tara tightly, but she was still grinning.
Tara’s heart leapt when Willow called her baby, she was Willow’s baby. “It’s ok, I’m over it now.”
Dawn and Tori came bouncing down the stairs with three kids following them. “Ok, we’re cleaned up and ready to dig in.” Tori sat on the counter.
“Impatient much?” Hadley smirked at her mama’s grumble, as she took her previous seat. “Beside Tor, I think Hadley’s been waiting for the cake more then you have.”
“So not true. Just upstairs, Hadley said that she could wait for the cake until later. Right now she wanted to spy on you and Willo…oops.” Tori looked at her niece who glared at her.
“I have no clue what you’re talking about Aunt Tori, I think maybe you’re hearing things.” Hadley giggled. She knew she was caught, but she didn’t want to give up so easily.
“And why, may I ask, did you want to spy on us?” Willow asked playfully.
“Tattler!” Hadley stuck her tongue out at her auntie, and then looked at the amused faces on her mother and Willow. “Beeeeecause I wanted to…play ‘I spy’?” Her smile was so innocent that everyone let it slide.
After cake and ice cream, everyone gathered in the living room to watch Hadley open her presents. “Open mine first.” Lily said clapping her hands in excitement. Hadley opened up the small gift bag, and found a small teddy bear holding a lollipop.
“Wow…thanks Lily.” Hadley smiled, and passed the gift to her mother. Next she opened Mikey’s, it was a small pony figure, with tiny rainbow clovers. “I love it, mama? Can I put it beside my jewellery box?” Tara nodded her head grinning ever so happily. Hadley saw out of the corner of her eye, her mama reach behind her and entwine her fingers with Willow’s. Hadley jumped up from where she was seated, in the middle of the floor, and flew herself around Willow’s legs.
“Whoa!” Willow laughed, and looked down at Hadley then kneeled taking the small figure into her arms squeezing gently. “Are you ok?”
“Better, thank you Willow…I love you.” Hadley squeezed tighter.
“I love you too baby girl…but you didn’t even open my present yet.” Willow looked up at Tara in confusion but smiled because she seriously loved all of them.
“Yes you did, member what we talked about last week? You did that Willow, you did it.” Hadley pulled back slowly, tiny tears starting to form. “The windows to your soul Will…you did it.”
Willow smiled with love as she drew Hadley back in. “I promise Had,” she whispered into the tiny ear, “that whatever happens, I’ll always be here to make you and your family happy. Now, scoot back over there, and open up the rest of your presents.”
Hadley smiled and kissed Willow on the cheek, she looked at her mama and winked. Tara let out a small giggle, trying to find answers of what just happened in her daughter’s eyes. The child continued to unwrap until she reached the last three. One from her mama, and the other two from Willow. She decided to open up Willow’s first. Slowly, with her tongue peeking out between her teeth, she unwrapped the first box. Inside, there, rested a small blonde doll, dressed in a baby blue dress with pretty white shoes, and a tiny label reading ‘Baby Girl’. With wide blue eyes she looked up at Willow, “Thank you so much Willow.”
“You’re welcome.” Willow smiled; Tara looked at her and grinned.
“Had, Willow made that just for you.” Tara said still grinning.
“I know…it’s beautiful…just like you mama.” Hadley cradled the doll as if it were real. “Lily, you want to hold her while I open up the rest?” Lily bobbed her head up and down as she took the doll away from the owner. Hadley opened the next one, “A journal? A real journal?”
“Yeah, complete with a coloured kit.” Willow bent down and started to sort out the colours. “Hope you like it.”
“I love it…but I told you, you didn’t have too.” Hadley had the exact same grinned plastered to her face as her mother did.
“What can I say, you spoil Brady, I spoil you.” Willow returned the grin. “Now what did mama get you?”
Hadley tore off the paper, and found a very crystal clear like, jewellery box. “Oh wow…” Hadley breathed. “Mama…it’s beautiful.”
Tara sat down next to her daughter, and took the crystal box in her hands. “It’s a dream box, you write or draw your dream, and place it inside. Then, on a sunny day, you let the goddess of light reach in, and place a blessing on your dream.”
“Can I do my dream right now?” Hadley asked anxiously.
“Sure, let’s clean up a bit before Lily and Mikey’s parents come to pick them up.” Tara started to clean but was stopped by a warm hand on hers.
“Go, I’ll clean this up.” Willow smiled sweetly. “I can stay later too, if you wanted help cleaning up.”
“That…thanks. Um…you could even spend the night.” Tara slipped in. “I don’t have an extra bedroom like you…but, you know, I could crawl in with Hadley, and you could take my bed.”
“Or…I could take the couch…but I really should go home…Brady needs her food.” Willow, at this point, regretted bringing her dog.
“Well, when you drop Dawn off…you can take Brady home.” Tara suggested. Her voice was kind of pleading.
“Hmmm…how about we have a slumber party instead. I sleep on the floor in your room, that way we can talk.” Willow smiled at Tara lovingly.
“Or…we could share my bed…”
“Or…you two can stop with the flirting already.” Tori laughed, she looked at Dawn and grabbed her hand walking into the kitchen before Tara could say anything back.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Dawn fought to with her sister on the phone to spend the night at Tori’s. “God Buffy, it’s not like we’re partying and having guys over.”
“Dawn, it’s just that I don’t want you over staying your welcome there.” Buffy calmly said. “That’s what mom would say.”
“Yes I know, but you’re not mom. Buff…please? You’re like the coolest sister, I promise we can spend tomorrow night doing anything you want.”
“Cool huh? OK, just for that you can. But if Tara says it’s time to go or whatever, listen to her.”
“I will, I always do. But she’s not to concerned with Tori and I…to busy flirting with Willow, who, by the way is staying here too.” Dawn made a face to herself.
“Really? Go Will!” Buffy rooted for her best friend. “Not that they can do anything…I mean, with little Hadley.”
“Hadley is totally aware of the surroundings. She’s so…observant. Can she live with us?” Dawn asked.
“No, I think Tara would miss her to death.” Buffy laughed. “I should go out and patrol. Did you need anything from the house?”
“Ah…no. Tori has the clothes that I let her burrow. They’re clean, so I’m good to go. But Willow might need a favour.”
“What’s that?” Buffy knew full well what it was.
“Brady…”
“I’ll be over in a while. Behave.” Buffy and Dawn said bye and hung up the phone.
“So, it’s cool with your sister?” Tori asked looking at the brunette.
“Yeah…I love spending the night with you.” Dawn said as she sat close to Tori.
“Me too.” Tori replied. “Dawn…”
“Yeah?”
“Have you ever had a boyfriend?” Tori asked fidgeting a bit with her blanket.
“No.”
“No? What guy in their right mind, wouldn’t go out with you?” Tori asked taken aback.
“Have you?” Dawn blushed.
“Well…no. Never was curious in them. But I did have this one guy who practically stalked me.” Tori laughed.
Dawn leaned back, so her head rested on the headboard of the bed. < Attracted…yes, definitely attracted. But…what would mom say? Or Buffy? I never liked guys…not really. I always had this tiny crush on Willow…but now that doesn’t exist. I have these feelings for Tori…and no matter how much I fight them, not that I want too, it never strays. So what am I going to do about it? >
Tori noticed the deep thought look on Dawn’s face. “Hey, are you ok?”
“Wha…oh, yeah, I’m fine.” Dawn sat up, and took Tori’s hands into hers, and smiled. “I wanna show this place…”
