:paranoid

It's dark and dusty in here. Anybody? Anyone?

hello?

It's a gray and rainy day here, and I need a dose of Thursday. Thursday, I know you'll see me through my to-do list. The day will unfold with ease, rain that falls only at convenient times, and no unexpected phone calls or proverbial fires to put out. My sniffles will cease and lunch will be tasty and inexpensive. My truck will start. And run. I will be home on time... NAY! I will be home early! Today, this Thursday, the above declaration will NOT jinx me, because, oh noble Thursday, you are above that.

Happy Thursday all.

What's that, MKF? The bestest best thread on the Kittenboard bumping back up on the front page again? How could I not come back and post here?

I confess, I have not been around for a very long time. Work, the baby, life in general; you know how it goes. I celebrate the Joy of Thursday in my heart each week ... but like a bad catholic, I just haven't been to church in a while, you know? (No offense to any catholic kittens out there, it was just the first thing I could think of).

So here I am, peeking into the Kittenboard for the first time in a while, and what do I find - Boschi bumping the It's Just Thursday, MKF! thread for like the first time in AGES. I guess the stars just lined up right, but that kind of thing happens on Thursdays.

So, I see some familiar names and some updates on some familiar fics. Sweet. I feel like I've got some catching up to do, MKF.

This thursday was full of surprises...
1.didn't realise today was the deadline for quite a large business assignment :S that's a £5 fine (not the end of the world though because I got paid yesterday :D)
2. Heard one of the little shits in the first year saying 'Look, it's the she-male' behind my back (Made me angry and laugh at the same time...he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about because I'm technically the opposite)
3. My mates at college are awesome!! They suggested arranging a beat down on the first year because of '2' but settled for telling our course tutor (I'd rather have broke the little f*****s nose but what you gonna do :P )

Who'da thunk verbal abuse could make me smile...not that i want it again mind you

Happy Thanksgiving, MKF! What could be better than a holiday where ALL you do is watch football and eat turkey? Well, how about a holiday that ALWAYS lands on a Thursday!

I had intended to watch the Buffy Thanksgiving episode, but things were too busy today. Maybe next year.

What are you thankful for today, MKF? Last year at this time, my daughter was just a few weeks from being born, and I was thankful beyond words or expression that she was coming. We did not know what she was going to look like, what kind of personality she would have (though we suspected she would have a temper based on the kicking she did); we prayed - but did not know - that she would be born healthy.

This year, I am as thankful as I have ever been in my life that my daughter is so wonderful. The troubles that cloud my life could not be more inconsequential when I see her smile at me. I remember when I had no children and I would hear parents say things like this and I would roll my eyes ... but I know now those parents did not do this feeling justice. Nothing in my life will ever be as wonderful as this, and I am thankful.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to all kittens out there!

I so wanted to post earlier, MKF, but work had other plans for me ... But that's OK, I only have to put up with work one more day before the weekend!

A long time ago, back when I first discovered this most wonderfullest of threads, I posted about having paid off my all my credit cards. I think it was like two or three years ago ... and since then I sank again into hideous debt. A good deal of it was due to the foolishness of my lifestyle, but a good deal of it was not. There were medical bills and other expenses I had to pay. About a year ago, more or less coinciding with the birth of our daughter, we started taking some serious steps to pay everything off and be free once again. It was a long road, and I'm still working a second job ... but that day is now here.

I paid off the last penny on my last credit card. No debt. Zippo, nada, zero, MKF!

I have no great confidence that Life will let me get away with this for long, but there have been lessons learned, and I think I'm better equipped now to deal with future curveballs.

At least, I hope I am. We'll see.

Anyway, MKF, it's Thursday and I'm debt-free! Wheeeeeeeeee!!

Peace to all Kittens out there, those I know, those I don't, and those I haven't seen in a while!

gorn! Good to "see" you and congrats on the debt-free status. That is pretty damn remarkable. Cheers.

I am staggering through grant proposals as part of my non-farming job. It seemed to be going much better last night, when I was drinking beer as I worked on the budget.

I'm not quite sure where to go with that - drink beer now, or doublecheck the info from last night?

What the hell - 'tis Thursday! I'll have a beer.

Happy Thursday all!

Been a while, huh? Ah, beer on a Thursday! I can't think of a better day to enjoy a beer. I probably NEED beer more on a Monday, but ENJOY? I'll be honest - I enjoy just about everything a little bit more on Thursdays.

I did not particularly enjoy the overtime I did in the trenches tonight, but that's OK. I started working a few hours every night after work out on the floor, running an assembly machine ... hence my earlier post about paying off my credit card. Even though the card is paid, though, I haven't been able to quit just yet. I've grown accustomed to the extra cash (or rather, Mrs. Gorn has grown accustomed to the extra cash), and it's about the only physical activity I really do anymore. It's kind of like going to the gym, only instead of the monthly fees they pay you. Win-win, as I see it.

So, my back is stiff and my shoulders are tight, MKF. But no worries! Today was a good day, and the weekend is almost here!

Anyone else out there not even close to being finished with Christmas shopping? I probably shouldn't talk about this on a Thursday ...

Well, now, where to begin, MKF?

Today was our daughter's first birthday! I don't believe I talked about this before, but Mrs. Gorn and I struggled for a lot of years trying to have a baby, went through a lot of tough times before little Yume was born. At one point we honestly thought we'd never have children, and then BAM!! Yume was on her way. Like a miracle. A year later, with cake and candles, a mountain of presents, and Grandma & Grandpa taking pictures, we celebrated her being one year old. The sense of warmth, family and happiness in the gorn household this night is a little hard to describe ... even on a Thursday.

Oh, but it gets better.

Not too long after coming back around the Kittenboard, shortly after Thanksgiving, I posted about some rollicking good nookie Mrs. Gorn and I had after seeing the first snow of the season. Yeah, you know where I'm going with this, don't you, MKF?

Mrs. Gorn is pregnant again.

We weren't trying, we weren't planning. It just happened, like a crack of thunder out of a clear blue sky. The first time was a miracle, but we actively pursued it - this time, it's like a freebie from God.

This is a particularly good Thursday, MKF. Gonna remember this one for quite some time.

Yay! That is so exciting gorn, congratulations! Sounds like there was some baby dust mixed in with that snow...

Thursday in these parts have been less than stellar, I'm sad to say. I'm placing no blame on Thursday, mind you, it's not Thursday's fault, just a weird, sorry coincidence. The boy is sick, and his moms are sort of sick too (though not as sick as he.) There is only so much patience a toddler has, and absolutely none of it is reserved for well-meaning moms, wielding tissues and gently encouraging words like, "blow, please." I've been shown the hand more times today than a man on Maury who has just been told, "you ARE the father." Looking forward to next Thursday already...

Boschi's Thursday status:

Have draped a big, fluffy comforter over my office chair. I sit my cold butt down in the chair and wrap the rest of the comforter around me, including all the way down to my toes.

I am waaaaaaarm now.

With only the top of my head (including eyes) and forearms sticking out, I can type away and claim, legitimately, to be getting work done. All the while cocooned in a nice warm, blankie.

Now, if I can just keep from drifting off....

Happy Thursday all, I hope your Thursday is as snuggly and warm.

and gorn! gorn! Hurrah! I am happy for you and yours!

Try to remember that this is yet another opportunity to think of baby names involving "gorn". Priorities, priorities! If you'd like to pay tribute to an actor, you could go with "James Gorner" or "Jennifer Gorner" (depending on gender) as a first/middle name combo. Or show a little pizzazz and go with "Gornzwego" for a boy. I like that one, I really do. "Gornika" could work for a girl (and, as a bonus, be a sort of artistic statement on war and peace).

:peace

Eat well over the holidays everyone and enjoy the company of those around you.

Best wishes to all, and to all a good Thursday.

*Creeps in to the Thursday thread. MKF looks at me with suspicion*

Hey all, long time no post!!!

Congrats to you, Gorn, and of course Mrs. Gorn on the happy news!

And, Boschi, how I sympathise with you re the lack of warmth.

Northern Ireland is experiencing its worst winter in 25 years, this week the average daytime temperature has been -8 Deg. C and some rural areas it's been down to -18C at night.

I know this is nothing compared to some places, but for us it's like being in the friggin arctic.

I came home from work today to find water trickling down the wall just inside the front door. I was hoping it was just seeping in through the bricks from the porch, which has about 5 inches of snow on it from last Friday's snowfall, but no, it was the condenser pipe from my boiler.

It had frozen!!! Luckily my cousin is a central heating installer and he came up and disconnected it so the steam could condense and drip into a bucket.

At least I can run my central heating, but my only worry is how long will it take the bucket to fill up and will I be here to empty it - kinda like bucket roulette - go to work and take a chance, or stay home - lol!

Last day of work tomorrow and I'm on leave till the 5th January, so that's not too shabby, MKF!!!

A Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year to you all!!!

Nice to see a few more familiar faces in here, MKF!

Blankets and burst pipes? Looks like Winter means it this year! I grew up in a lot of cold places, so it's never bothered me much ... until recently. Not that I'm getting old or anything. I mean, I suppose I am, but that's not what I mean. Before Yume was born, I got evicted out of my lair. Most of my stuff ended up in the garage, but the computer was moved into the guest room. No big deal most of the year, but for whatever reason, the guest room is BITTERLY cold in the winter! On nights when I can't be bothered to bring a space heater with me, I make excuses not to spend time in here. On the good nights, though, all I need is whiskey and a space heater.

That kind of sounds like it ought to be a Tom Waits album, doesn't it, MKF? Whiskey And A Space Heater.

Burst pipes suck, though. Bummer of a thing to happen on a Thursday ...

I liked Boschi's parting comment about everyone eating well. Very Boschi-ish. It being the holidays and whatnot, I'm going to assume she doesn't mean "healthy" when she says "well," (as in "gorn, eat your vegetables!" - which I will not this holiday season), but rather that we all eat Good Stuff and lots of it. I propose we all come back here next Thursday and tell MKF what we've been gorging ourselves on.

This is the gorn household; there will be turkey.

I'm so happy I don't have to go to work tomorrow, MKF! I know that's not much of a Thursday thing to say, but once in a while it's really goddamn nice.

Hallelujah, Thursday, hallelujah. It's Christmas eve eve, and my son is FINALLY starting to get better. It's about damn time. Colds linger, and baby colds linger in the most miserable way ever. Can't wait for it to git! Also trying to appreciate this time in our family's history. This is likely the last year I will be able to go Christmas shopping with my son to buy presents for my wife and family without my son blabbing what I bought the second he sees the intended gift-getter. I suppose every Christmas after this is going to be very different. This year my son is aware of Christmas—he thinks the tree in the house is pretty cool and he seems fond of Santa—but he's not nearly rabid with excitement about Santaandcookiesandpresentsandreindeer (deep breath), as I suspect he'll be next year. It's a very innocent Christmas, and I intend to enjoy every single second of it.

Hope everyone else has a magical day, full of lots of wonder and fun. Happy holidays and be safe!!

It's Christmas Eve, there is snow on the ground here and my turkey is defrosting nicely. I want to thank you all for welcoming me onto the kitten board. You have created a unique place that is very special and if I had any hats I would take them all off to you. I wish you, on this Christmas Eve, a very happy and peaceful Christmas and an amazing New Year.

Thursday comes through again. It is supposed to be 46 F this afternoon, and sunny. Hurrah!

I am in the middle of constructing a greenhouse. Handling metal pipes when it is cold and snowy really, truly sucks green gopher guts. So hurrah, hurrah for sun and above freezing temps. :dance

Been there, done that. And I'll never do it again as long as I live.

My Thursday was somewhat opposite, and for that I'm grateful. There's a new asian restaurant that opened up in town a while back, and Mrs. Gorn & I had plans to meet there for lunch. One of the Japanese guys in the office told me they had damn good ramen, nearly authentic, and when Mrs. Gorn heard that there was no stopping her.

Well, actually there was something stopping her - she'd left her car door open in the garage last night, and the little light up top managed to run her battery to death. I got a pathetic call from her just before lunch to come home and jump her (car). Oh, it was a wonderful moment, MKF! Nine times in ten, she's calling me in a fit of simmering rage over something I've done/not done. It's always my fault.

But not this time. Oh, sweet Thursday!

Boschi,
Is this another hoop house? Something that's going to take six months to construct?

Thanks, gorn. That really encouraged me.

The answer is, no, it can't take 6 months, because I have to use it within a month. The answer is also, yes, this is basically another hoophouse, only this one comes with a big heater, electrical outlets and even more hardware and framing to knock together. It's a bit smaller than the hoophouse too - it's 30 ft wide, but only 44 ft long.

I will do it, I will do it, I will do it. I must do it.

Now, if I could just convince myself to leave the house I could get to work on that. It's just so damn cold out there.

Hi Kittens :wave

It's Thursday and I'm sitting here waiting for my mom to arrive on a visit from the South Bay, where she will be bringing me a new green ipod nano as a belated b-day present. Yay! It will be nice to see her, and she will be arriving any minute now! :dumbo

Here, here! (or is it "Hear, hear!" ... ?)
I miss this place six days a week, and yet these days I find myself having to hustle just to get that post in before midnight. But that's my life these days. A little Thursday is still better than no Thursday at all!

I've been sick since the weekend. Horribly sick. I was beginning to think I was genuinely sick sick, as in go-see-the-doctor sick, but - BUT - this evening, this wonderfull Thursday evening ... I've started feeling a bit better. Fried chicken and hunny-lemon cough drops are apparently more effective than Nyquil and bowl after bowl of chicken soup. At least on a Thursday.

It's January now - in June, Boschi will be posting here about finally completing her greenhouse.

For the sake of argument, though, let's say little fairies come out one night and it gets built within a month. Can you really plant stuff in there in February? How long does it take to grow whatever it is you're growing?

If those fairies don't show up, perhaps this music will inspire you -->

It's Thursday and I'm sitting here waiting for my mom to arrive on a visit from the South Bay, where she will be bringing me a new green ipod nano as a belated b-day present. Yay! It will be nice to see her, and she will be arriving any minute now!

Good lord, MKF, does EVERYONE have an ipod besides me??

SNOW DAY!!!!

Hell, I'm not in school and I set my own work schedule and this is still, very clearly, a snow day. We only got 8 inches or so, but it's a lovely excuse to stay in, eat some snacks, peer out the window and drink warm beverages.

I'm wishing I lived closer to my field, where there is an enormous hill that would be great for sledding. Hmmm... perhaps tomorrow.

I'ts not like I can work on the greenhouse anyway...too snowy. (Hush gorn, I'll shackle myself to the wheel of pain just as soon as we get a thaw)

gorn, hope you are feeling better. BlondCavalier, hope the iPod is splendiforous. To all:

Happy Snowy Thursday from Boschi-land.

Oh, and yes gorn, things will grow in February. The low-light slows them down, but the heater keeps them warm. I grow onions and leeks from seed, and they need to spend about 10 weeks growing before I can transplant them to the field. Given that I like to plant them out to the field in mid-March, I should be seeding them right now. Other things to start early in the greenhouse to transplant out later: head lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, chives and a few cold-hardy, slow growing herbs.
Don't confuse me with your reasonableness.
