Chapter 17 B
“So should we drive together or separately?” Tara asked as she glanced at herself in the hall mirror, deciding she didn’t look too bad as she adjusted the earring in her right ear.
“Why would we do that?” Faith asked as she emerged from her bedroom.
“Well I didn’t know if you were planning on staying with Buffy tonight or… if you two had plans for something, you know… other than dinner,” Tara said, her cheeks slightly flushed.
“No,” Faith said with a laugh. “That’s not what tonight’s for. Buffy just thought it would be fun.”
“She’s cooking?”
“God I hope not,” Faith said with a worried face. “She screwed up macaroni and cheese last week. I mean the instructions are right there on the back of the box. I don’t want to taste anything that she’s making ‘gourmet’.” Tara just chuckled and grabbed her purse as she followed Faith out the front door. “Did Willow call you about it?”
“No. She just sent me a text a few hours ago that she’s was glad I was coming,” Tara answered, leaving out the part about Willow saying how much she missed her. Remembering that now though brought a little lopsided grin to her lips as she followed her roommate downstairs and through the lobby to their parking lot. “Will Buffy’s sister be there tonight?” Tara asked as she climbed in the passenger side of Faith’s jeep.
“Dawn? I don’t think so. Buf didn’t mention it to me.”
“Have you met her yet?”
“No. Not yet,” Faith answered as she steered out of the parking lot. “I’m curious if she’s anything like Buffy.”
“Would that be a bad thing?”
“I couldn’t handle two Buffy’s,” Faith said with a laugh. Tara joined her before turning her gaze out the window. “Oh, I called Anya today and told her we would come to Xander’s party. She actually invited Willow and Buffy along too.”
“Really?” Tara said, turning to look at the brunette in surprise. “She’s never allowed girlfriends to be invited to any of her other shindigs.”
“True but usually she was single for those and didn’t want to be reminded that her two very gay best friends were tapping all sorts of tail while she was going home alone,” Faith joked. “But she honestly said it would probably be a good idea for them to come. More people and more friendly faces for us.”
“Well, ok. I mean if Willow and Buffy want to come that is. I think Willow may have reached her Anya quota last weekend.”
“What did she say that was so embarrassing?” Faith asked.
“Oh no, I’m not telling you that story,” Tara said, turning her gaze back out the window.
“Oh come on. Anya caused humiliation stories are the best.”
“Yeah, but none of the humiliation was felt by me. So in all fairness, I don’t think I should be the one to tell you what she said,” Tara said in her most diplomatic voice.
“That’s not fair,” Faith said as she turned into a residential neighborhood on the opposite side of town from their apartment and slowed down. Easily finding Buffy’s house, she pulled up next to the curb and threw the jeep in park before killing the engine. “Are you sure I can’t get one little hint?”
“Absolutely not,” Tara said as she slid out of her seat and closed the door on Faith’s hopeful face.
Tara followed Faith up the stone walkway and onto the front porch that looked as though it had seen better days.
“This is a cute house,” Tara said as Faith knocked on the sturdy oak door.
“Buffy inherited it from her mom when she passed away,” Faith answered, still staring straight ahead. Tara just nodded and continued her perusal of the porch, noticing the white paint chipping along the edges of the railing and floorboards warping beneath her feet. Her attention was turned back to the door when she heard it open wide and saw a cheerful, bouncing blonde on the other side.
“Hi guys! I’m so glad you made it,” she said, opening the door further and stepping aside so both girls could enter.
“Hey Buf,” Faith said, depositing a quick peck on the petite blonde’s lips as she passed. Buffy just smiled, her eyes glued to Faith’s backside as the brunette moved further into the house.
“Hi Buffy,” Tara said with a small wave as she stepped just inside the door. Buffy immediately turned her attention to the shy blonde and her smile changed from one of appreciative lust to one of pure excitement.
“Tara! Hi! I’m glad you came,” she said as she moved forward to give the blonde a one armed hug.
“Do I smell something burning?” Faith asked, a concerned look on her face as she turned to the other two girls at the door.
“Oh shit!” Buffy said as she slammed the door and scrambled to the kitchen where a thin sheen of smoke pouring out of the top of the oven. She quickly pulled the oven open, the smoke pouring out even faster now and reached in with a nearby dish towel to grab the aluminum pan that was about in incinerate. “Damn it!”
The smoke alarm perched above the doorway to the dining room decided to make its presence known at that moment, blaring loudly above Faith and Tara’s heads. Tara moved away, further into the kitchen as Faith immediately grabbed the dishtowel from Buffy and began to fan the air in front of it, trying to clear the smoke.
“What’s going on down there?” Willow called from the stairs as she thundered down the steps. “Is the house burning down? Should I be concerned? Should I call 911? I have my phone! I-” Her babble was cut short when she turned the corner of the dining room and saw Faith standing in the kitchen to the doorway, trying to stifle the screeching.
“No, I think we’re fine,” Faith said with a smirk as the wailing finally stopped. “Hey Willow, how are you?”
“Fine, good, hi. I didn’t know you were here,” she said, taking a few more steps towards the kitchen and trying to peer around the brunette to see Tara.
“Well thankfully we arrived when we did. Otherwise the house might be a pile of rubble right now,” Faith joked.
‘We… so she is here,’ Willow thought, feeling her lips automatically start to turn upwards. She stepped into the spot that Faith had vacated and saw Tara standing on the other side of the kitchen, near the sink, her arms wrapped protectively around her torso, smiling softly at her.
“Hey,” she said with a little wave as she stepped around where Faith stood at the counter with Buffy, examining the contents of the dish.
“Hey,” Tara responded, suddenly at a loss for words at the sight of the beautiful redhead. Willow stopped a foot short of where Tara stood, not moving, just grinning at the other girl.
“What was this supposed to be?” Faith asked with a grimace as she poked at the dish with a nearby fork. Buffy just stood back against the stove, a pout planted firmly on her face.
“Chicken,” she said, crossing her arms across her chest, making her look even more like a four year old that hadn’t gotten her way. Faith just smiled and put the fork down before wrapping the blonde up in a comforting hug.
“I told you you didn’t have to cook,” she said, placing a small kiss on the blonde’s forehead.
“But I wanted to,” Buffy whined. “And this recipe was supposed to be really easy.” Faith just smiled a squeezed her tighter, both completely oblivious to the other two girls in the kitchen with them. Willow clearing her throat brought their attention back though and they both smiled sheepishly, stepping apart slightly but continuing to make contact.
“So, do you have anything else we can make?” Faith asked, giving the smoldering chicken one last disgusted look. “Or should we start calling around to see if we can get a table somewhere?”
“You want me to cook something else?” Buffy asked, skeptically.
“If you h-have something else, I c-can make it,” Tara said from her corner by the sink.
“Yeah, Tara’s an amazing cook,” Faith chimed in.
“Well have at it Tara,” Buffy said as she grabbed the now chilling pan and moved towards the trash can to dump it.
“You want some help Tare?” Faith asked.
“No, th-that’s ok,” Tara said with a grateful smile. “I g-got it.” Faith just smiled back and followed Buffy out of the kitchen.
“Was that no helping rule for everyone or just for them?” Willow asked, hope written all over her face.
“You can s-stay Willow,” Tara said as she reached out and pulled the redhead to her, feeling the slighter girl wrap her arms around her waist, relishing in the contact.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” Willow said with a smile as she leaned in a pressed her lips to the blonde’s.

Dinner had taken a little longer to prepare with Willow in the kitchen with her, stopping every few minutes to assist the redhead with whatever she was doing and getting distracted with little kisses here and there but finally everything was on the table by a little after eight o’clock.
“I didn’t even know we had the ingredients to make this,” Buffy said as she stared down at the bourbon chicken on her plate. “Are you sure this came from our kitchen?”
“P-Pretty sure,” Tara said with a smile as she sat down next to Willow, feeling the redhead reach for her hand beneath the table.
“Oh my God! This is amazing!” Buffy said as she took her first bite. “Tara, I’m totally nominating you to make all future meals in this house.”
“I told you she was good,” Faith said, taking a bite of her own. Tara just smiled but found she couldn’t rein in the blush that was spreading across her cheeks as she grabbed her own fork. “Oh before I forget, what are you two doing next Saturday?”
“Nothing I know of,” Buffy answered, already halfway through the food on her plate.
“Willow?”
“I don’t think I have any plans,” the redhead answered.
“Our friend is throwing a surprise birthday party for her boyfriend and she invited you both to come,” Faith explained. “It’s downtown at that bar, Calypso.”
“Sounds fun,” Buffy said with a nod. “Will?”
“Sure. Who’s birthday is it?” Willow asked.
“His name’s Xander but our friend, Anya, is the one throwing the party,” Faith explained.
Hearing Anya's name, Willow choked on the sip of water she’d just taken, going into a coughing fit. Tara immediately turned to the redhead, concerned, looking for some way to help but was waved off as Willow tried to get her lungs under control.
“My gosh Will what was that all about?” Buffy asked when the coughing had finally subsided.
“Nothing,” Willow answered, taking another small sip of her water. “Just um… went down the wrong pipe.” Tara smiled knowingly at the redhead, rubbing small soothing circles on her back as she continued to calm down.
“Are you sure Will?” she asked, unable to resist.
“Yeah,” Willow said coughing once more and giving Tara a warning look. Fortunately Tara didn’t have to push any further.
“I heard you actually met Anya already Willow,” Faith said, still curious about what had happened at the encounter and completely oblivious to the look Willow had shot Tara.
“You did?” Willow said, shooting another glare at Tara.
“Yeah, Tare told me you ran into her when you guys were having dinner,” Faith said. “What did you think of her?”
“Um… well… I mean… I guess she was um-”
“They didn’t really have a lot of t-time to talk,” Tara interrupted, reaching for Willow’s hand under the table and sending Faith a look to drop the issue for now. Faith just nodded and smiled at the redhead before tucking back into her meal.

“Here we go,” Willow said as she stepped out on the back porch with two glasses of wine.
“Thanks, Will,” Tara said, taking the glass that Willow handed her. Willow just smiled and sat next to the blonde, leaving absolutely no space between the two.
“So when do you think I should explain to Buffy who Anya actually is?” Willow asked with a smirk as she stared up at the stars above them.
“Well…” Tara trailed off with a giggle. “You c-could always wait until we actually get to the p-party. Maybe kind of get her back for making you g-go into the store with her in the f-first place.”
“Oh that is so wicked. I love it,” Willow said with a giggle of her own. “When did you get so evil?”
“It’s a trait I rarely b-bring out.”
Willow risked a glance at Tara and saw she was staring up at the sky too.
‘God, she’s so beautiful,’ Willow thought. ‘She has to be the most beautiful woman in the world.’ She was thinking this as Tara turned and met her eyes, sending goosebumps up and down her arms from just a look.
“W-What?” Tara asked.
Willow didn’t say anything as she leaned in a softly pressed her lips against the blonde’s. She couldn’t contain the bliss she felt when she Tara responded to the kiss, pushing back into the her lips and reaching up to stroke the redhead’s cheek softly as the kiss grew deeper. It had been a week since they’d each felt this closeness and that was far too long. It wasn’t rushed or heated. Just slow and teasing, neither girl in any hurry to end the evening.
“I missed you this week,” Tara said as they broke apart for a minute.
“I know,” Willow said, kissing her once more. “I’m sorry. Work was crazy and… well… it was just a bad week.”
“What was so crazy about work?” Tara asked, sliding her lips across the redhead’s cheek and down her neck.
“Oh um… a bunch of programs crashed and… my boss is on vacation. Just a lot of work,” Willow said, her answer punctuated with sighs as Tara’s lips hit spots she didn’t even know were there.
“Then why was it so bad?” Tara asked, moving her left hand from Willow’s hip up under the hem of the redhead’s shirt and feeling the smooth skin there.
‘Oh God, I don’t want to talk about this now. Not when her mouth feels so good,’ Willow thought as she leaned her head back further to give the blonde more access to her neck.
“Nothing,” Willow said, winding her fingers through the blonde's hair. “It’s not important.”
“Are you sure?” Tara asked, taking another nip at the pale skin in front of her.
“Positive,” Willow said, inhaling sharply as Tara hit a particularly sensitive spot. She couldn’t stand to be away from the blonde’s lips any longer and leaned down, crushing their lips together once more, the slow, teasing pace gone.
‘God she tastes so good,' Tara thought, feeling herself grow bolder and bolder by the minute. Unaware of her actions she slid her left hand further into the redhead’s shirt, feeling the lines of Willow’s abs contract under her hand. She pushed her lips harder into the redhead’s, feeling a little lightheaded when Willow’s hands splayed across her back, pulling her closer. It seemed that Tara wasn’t the only one thinking that she couldn’t get close enough.
Feeling herself grow even more daring, and before she could talk herself out of it, Tara raised herself up on her knees without breaking the kiss and straddled the redhead’s lap, moving her hands up to run through the silky strands of the slighter girls hair. Willow only moaned into her mouth at the new position but didn’t stop the kiss. It seemed to go on and on as their passion increased and Willow realized she was dangerously close to ripping the blonde’s clothes off and doing all sorts of naughty things to her right there on the porch.
‘Why not? Let’s finally get some use out of the privacy fence,’ she thought as her lips left Tara’s to roam down the blonde’s long, graceful neck, her hands slipping along the hem of Tara’s shorts, feeling the soft skin of the blonde’s thighs beneath her fingertips.
“Will.” Tara half whispered, half moaned her name and that was enough to push the redhead onward.
“You want to go inside?” she whispered, her voice husky in Tara’s ear.
“Oh yes,” Tara answered, her lips finding Willow’s once more as her hips rocked forward against the redhead’s stomach. She had to gather all her willpower to pull herself off of the redhead, though she didn’t have to wait long to regain contact as Willow immediately jumped out of the glider and pressed herself up against the other girl, their lips crashing together once more as she backed the blonde up against the backdoor, pinning her there.
“Are you sure about this?” Willow asked breathlessly, pulling away from the blonde enough to look into her deep blue eyes. “Like, this isn’t too fast?”
“Willow…” Tara trailed off for a moment as her eyes moved to the redhead’s swollen lips for a fraction of a second before staring back into the dark green eyes waiting for her answer. “Just take me inside and fuck me.”
That was all it took. Willow quickly pushed the door open and the two stumbled into the kitchen, still wrapped around each other, trying desperately to focus on getting upstairs. They were successful in making their way through the kitchen and halfway into the dining room before the blare of a television caught the redhead’s attention.
“Crap!” Willow said, pulling her lips away from Tara, which immediately caused a concerned pout to appear on the blonde’s face.
“What? What’s wrong?” Tara asked, still combing her fingers through the redhead’s hair.
“I totally forgot about Buffy and Faith,” Willow answered, listening for any signs of her best friend and the brunette.
“Oh… yeah… I forgot about them,” Tara said, instantly feeling disappointment set into her stomach, but hoping it didn’t show on her face.
“They were in the living room when I was getting us the wine. Maybe they left or went upstairs or something,” Willow said, easing back from Tara so she could peak around the corner to the living room.
'Damn it!' she thought when she saw the pair cuddled up on the couch, totally engrossed in some movie they’d found.
“Are they in there?” Tara asked from behind her, sliding her hands around the redhead’s slim hips, finding it impossible to be away from her.
“Yeah,” Willow answered. “Damn it!” She turned back to the captivating blonde and wrapped her arms around the girl, knowing that she didn’t want their first time together to be a quicky upstairs while their best friends sat below, hearing everything. That could wait until their second or third time. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Tara said, resting her head on the redhead’s shoulder, trying to calm her raging hormones. “It’s not your fault that they happen to always be at the most inconvenient places and the most inconvenient times.” Willow chuckled at this before turning her head and leaving a small kiss on Tara’s temple.
“Rain check?” she asked as she squeezed the blonde against her.
“Definitely,” Tara answered, turning to look into the redhead’s eyes as a faint blush started rising on her cheeks. “S-Sorry about the… you know… s-super aggressiveness outside.”
“Oh, no. Don’t you dare be sorry about that,” Willow said, laughing again. “I look forward to seeing more of that and very soon. Besides, if you’re apologizing, that means I need to apologize and I’m not sorry. Or at least I don’t feel sorry. Unless you want me to be sorry. Because I totally can. Oh gosh, were you hinting at me to apologize? Oh I’m so clueless. Like seriously Willow get with it. I mean I wasn’t trying to pressure or push you in any way and I really don’t-”
“Will!” Tara said, interrupting the redhead before she could spin out of control. She smiled when she caught her attention and gave the girls slim waist a quick squeeze.
“Sorry,” Willow said, realizing Tara had stopped her spiral. “And thanks.”
“Anytime.”
“Hey, are you guys out there?” Buffy called from the living room.
“Yeah,” Willow said as she turned to see her best friend enter the dining room, followed closely by Faith.
“What are you doing out here? You could’ve come in and watched the movie with us.”
“That’s ok. We were entertaining ourselves,” Willow answered, smiling when she saw Tara blush again out of the corner of her eyes.
“Well sorry to interrupt your entertainment but I was going to see if you were ready to go Tare,” Faith said with a smirk.
“Um… ok. Sure,” Tara said, her shoulders sagging slightly at the thought of leaving Willow.
“Ok, I’ll meet you outside,” Faith said, pulling Buffy outside with her to give her best friend another moment of privacy.
“God, why do I feel like I’m seventeen and my p-parents just caught me making out with my F-French tutor?” Tara asked, still blushing. Willow just laughed. “So what are you d-doing tomorrow?”
“Nothing I know of. You want to do something?” Willow asked as she squeezed the blonde once more before letting go and leading her out of the house by the hand.
“Yeah, if you w-want to,” Tara said.
“Ok, call me tomorrow when you get up and we’ll plan something.” They walked the rest of the way down the walk to Faith’s jeep in silence where Faith and Buffy were saying their goodbyes as well. Feeling chivalrous, Willow reached up and opened the passenger door, motioning for Tara to get in. The blonde just smiled as she complied, placing a soft kiss on Willow’s lips as she passed her. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” Tara just nodded and smiled as Willow shut the door and stepped back beside Buffy, waving goodbye as the jeep pulled away from the curb.
“So that went well. I think it was fun,” Buffy said as she turned to make her way back into the house.
“It would’ve been a lot more fun if you’d left immediately after dinner,” Willow said under her breath.
“What’s that Will?” Buffy called from the porch.
“I said I’m coming,” she answered as she watched the jeep’s taillights turn the corner and out of her sight.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.
