Things That Suck

Postby gorn » Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:13 pm

I have - on occasion - posted things in the "Crappy Feelings Thread" that were probably not so Crappy, at least not in the grand scheme of things. They were certainly Crappy to me, but I see a lot of things in that thread that are genuinely heavy and I don't want to make light of that. I guess my attitude towards that thread has changed somewhat since the hotlines were added.

Anyway, there are sometimes things in my life that Suck, but are perhaps not really serious enough to be considered Crappy, if that makes any sense. If it does, then you & I now got a thread to post about such things, the "Things That Suck" thread. I seem to recall there once being a thread like this, but I can't find it anymore.

So, what sucks today? Besides it being a cold, rainy Monday after a four-day holiday? Mrs. Gorn is leaving for Japan tomorrow ... and if that wasn't enough, her flight leaves at 6:30 in the GODDAMN MORNING. It's an international flight, so we have to be there at least two hours early ... and it's about an hour's drive to the airport. You do the math.

She's going to be gone about three weeks, and she's taking the kids with her. The first few nights she's gone are probably going to be an orgy of pizza, beer, and kung-fu movies, but by the third or fourth night it's going to suck.

I can't get ahold of my sister, which normally would just be weird, but I need information from her for Christmas plans and I've called and texted and emailed.

Neither our other sister nor our mom has heard more than a text for a month.

WTF?

I hurt my toe about six weeks ago and it just was starting to feel better.

Guess who just stubbed it against the exercise bike?

Guess who totally re-damaged it?

Laragh and Allie, sister in pain!

Wishing you both recovery and a return to a pain free life - let me say, though, that it sure hasn't affected your writing! Wow, very good stuff from both of you! So you're suffering but your art isn't!

My things that suck? Maniacal drivers! Just went to the San Francisco Airport, got my signal on trying to edge back into the flow and people are just jamming on the gas to cut me off. It's like hey, there! Can you wait two seconds?

Been looking forward to this party at an acquaintance's house for three weeks. As in, time, effort, and planning had to go into this evening (drink to bring, wardrobe, etc....especially wardrobe). I decide to carpool with the girl I'm casually seeing. We're there 20 minutes and she starts feeling sick. So I agree to leave with her (though I really didn't want to). Instead of just having her drop me off, she insists that I need to take care of her the rest of the night.

I am not a good person to have around when you're sick. Why? I just don't have that nurturing bone in me. I admit that I just plain feel inconvenienced. I take care of myself when I'm sick, I expect others to take care of themselves. I'm sorry, I'd love to be better at this, but I'm just not. All I can think about is the party I'm missing. The chance to make new friends. Maybe get to know that cute acquaintance a little better. Enjoy the drink that I went out and bought.

Sorry. In any case. Things that suck? Being in the mood to party, and not being able to.

Things that suck...being sick, going to work, taking a field trip to the er for an IV and then having to go back to work. Having a chronic illness sucks balls.

I'm used to flying alone. Done it a lot since I moved to California, particularly since Adam and I decided the easiest way to do Christmas was to travel seperately.

But damn, it's annyoying now that I have my CPAP, and every time I need food or the bathroom or whatever, to drag three bags around.

Respect to the single parents out there: I would be in trouble.

So, I got the nifty idea to make fudge to give as presents this year for Christmas. I've read tons of recipes, candy tutorials, watched YouTube videos. I was feeling pretty confident. I even went out and got a candy thermometer to really do it right. And I came up with some cool flavor ideas that should be way yummy.

So why the suckiness? Turns out the thermometer is a non functional cheap ass piece of crap, so now I have a molten lava mass of way over cooked fudge sludge that is rapidly hardening, but is way too hot to dispose of. And I'm watching the clock tick as the time to make all of the batches I wanted to is becoming less and less. Poop. :impatient

Girl I am thinking of recruiting members to Grinchmas. We can be like co presidents of the club or something. I just don't like how commercial it's gotten. I am tired of seeing people give things to others they really don't need. When it should be things people do need. Yes I know it's not as pretty or fun, but far more meaningful. The meaning of things is becoming a lost art.

Grrr Deb, that pissed me off just reading it! Chris' step father got shitty once like that with Jordan when she was about 6. It was the first (and only) time he's ever met her. Jordan, the FIL and her cousins were out playing basketball. She's not the most coordinated and was having a hard time keeping up with the boys. Plus, she was fucking 6 years old! He yelled something like, "Stop acting like a little baby and screwing everything up." I think my head almost exploded. I walked straight through the game, picked her up and gave him a menacing look. For my wife's sake, I kept my mouth shut, lol. Jeez, I really can't stand that guy.

What sucks for me...I'm in Starbucks and need to use the restroom but can't. I don't want to take my laptop with me and then lose my seat next to an outlet. I guess I just gotta hold it!

Having absolutely nothing to do on New Year's Eve. Someone I'm sort of friends with is having a party and a few days ago my best friend invited me, which made me feel a bit awkward as it wasn't an invite from the hostess or even with her permission, but she insisted it would be fine; she never mentioned it again. I didn't particularly want to go, but I wouldn't know most of the people there and I'm not good with crowds anyway, plus I almost never drink and I'm sure it will be a drinking party, but it would be nice if I were choosing to stay home rather than staying home cause I have nowhere to go.
