Beta Readers

Postby bearskeeper » Fri Dec 28, 2001 4:10 pm

I'm new to the board, and a new fan of the W/T, so I don't know a whole lot about the show, but I'm willing to beta. Everyone in school comes to me with their English papers to read over and work with, so I figure if I can do boring stuff like that, reading stuff I love to read anyway is just as easy! So if anyone needs a beta-reader, my email is Chipper121@aol.com!

Hi kittens...
I have been a writer for a long time, some fiction, some poetry, mostly non-fiction work stuff.

I recently started writing my very first W/T fic, and I am now finding myself in the middle of a sweeping, dark, intense fic that is overwhelming me. Help! I think that those characters are so close to me it is hard for me to write them, does that make sense?

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you lovely kittens would be willing to preview what I have written so far and lend me some opinions about direction, tone, and characterization. I need help. Guidance. A life...*grin*

A brief summary...It takes place a few months after the events of smashed and wrecked. Willow has gotten the magic part of the magic addiction under control, but is struggling with issues of guilt and shame about her actions while she was using. She does something outrageous and extreme to try and make ammends with herself and her loved ones.

Meanwhile, Tara is lonely and grieving what happened with Willow. The fic explores a lot of Tara's past, which I have always been intrigued by, and how it contributed to how she dealt with Willow's addiction and darkness.

So far, it's a pretty dark fic. Okay, very dark. It will all turn out alright in the end, I'm sure, but I have dug myself in so deep I'm not sure how to resolve it. Hmmmmm...sounds like Willow, eh?

Anyway, let me know if any of you talented kitties would be willing to read, edit and guide.

Thanks!

Hi italiangirl-
I'd be very interested in reading your fic and giving you my thoughts and suggestions. I also have a tendency to write emotionally dark, angst-ridden stories with happy, or at least well-resolved, endings. Plus I have lots of free time at the moment.

I'm currently working on a fic in which Tara's past figures prominently. Since we have only limited specific knowledge about her life pre-Willow, I found it helpful to construct my own mini-biography of her by inventing some pivotal incidents and relationships and writing about them in detail.

If you'd like to email me what you have so far caerfell@yahoo.com I'll be happy to give you some feedback and ideas. Maybe we could trade and you could take a look at what I'm in the middle of once you've resolved your story's direction.

(PS. If you use MS Word, send your writing as an attached file to preserve formatting.)

I'll toss my knitted beret into the pool. I will be happy to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs beta reading.

Hmm.... qualifications....

I've done it professionally for about seven years (mostly in script form.) I never..ever preach...I politely ask questions....

I like to think I'm polite, nice, and I love to read the fic on this board.

All you need do is ask.

Just wanted to add my name to the ever-growing list of beta-readers.

I'm really big on characterization. I will edit for grammar and spelling as I go along (even if you don't want me to) because it's just how I am. I realize, however, that some grammatical errors are for the sake of the work, so I don't always correct EVERYTHING.

Anyway, send long or short. Any rating, just give me warning before hand. jdcioffi@msn.com

And if you get stuck, I tend to like to help people talk stories out of themselves. You can IM me at either CSpotGo on AIM or jdcioffi@msn.com on MSN Messenger.

Sure. I'll toss my name into the hat for better reading - mainly just for grammatical editing though. I'm not so sure how I'd go with anything else. I'm not a writer I'm afraid. Though, I can only do stuff that's pre-season 6 right now. So if there's anyone with anything that doesn't contain season 6 references, drop me a line and I'll be happy to go over your work.

Catch me at pixie_muso@hotmail.com.

How about beta watchers?

I am looking for someone to beta watch the music video I am working on. Preferably you have a high speed connection, since the current size is fairly large.

rallyv@yahoo.com if interested.

Thanks,
