"Fallen" ~ a poem

Postby Quill » Wed Jan 09, 2002 10:33 pm

This a poem I wrote a few days ago after watching Tabula Rasa.
It could be read from just about any of the Scoobies' perspectives but I think it's more or less Tara's voice.

Fallen

The lingering remnants of my innocence
Leaves me drunk with regret
Longing to see that bright-eyed child
Staring back at me
Through the eyes of every person I've touched
I long to wonder, once again
At the beauty of life and this place
To trust those once loving arms
Resting heavily at your sides
To find that comfort and safety
That I am now too jaded to seek
One by one we fell
Sobbing and screaming
From our heavenly purchases
Now our heavy and tired feet
Carry us reluctantly through each day
Another memory left to fade
Into the shadows
As we dredge onward...
downward...
Farther and farther from the homes we once knew
I can't even trust myself,
How can I trust the next saving grace?
Crouched wearily on our edge of brimstone
Watching the flames
Consume everything we hold dear
One by one we fall
Again and again
Grasping for each other
As the heat climbs up
To claim the shells-
The hollow of our innocence lost...
Grace is here somewhere
In our hearts
Whispering us home -
Gently pushing us forward -
Among the shadows we have become
A kindred spirit lies in wait
For our eyes to lift from the ground at our feet
Longing to kiss away every scar and tear
To bear the weight of our tainted souls
To hold the world back
And paint a picture of beauty
To salvage the fleeting remnants of our stolen innocence
And bring us home at last.

Wow! That's pretty powerful stuff. All this imagery was flowing through my mind while words were read by my eyes.

I was really blown away by that. Nice work, Quill.

Quill, this was REALLY wonderful!

Beautifully written with powerful imagery. I didn't read that you wrote from Tara's POV until after and I think I felt it fitted Willow more. Really amazing stuff - the kind I'd love to be able to write. Do'you write poetry often or is this a one off?

Thank you for the feedback Charlie and I can see where you'd feel it was more Willow's POV. I do write a lot of poetry. It's like therepy minus the goofy guy with the notebook going 'uh huh' while I rant. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

Any more W/T stuff? And I agree on the 'therapy' thang... it is totally! I somehow don't think anyone will ever get to read the majority of what I write!

And as for me seeing it as Will's POV, that's the beauty of poetry - anyone can read it anyway they want and superimpose it onto their own feelings or situation if they want to.

If you've written anymore W/T, I'd love to see it... xx

Here's another poem...W/T inspired of course and a bit of a switch from my usual mood.

Time is drifting past us here
Calm and swift
Brushing past your eyes
As my gaze falls...
The slope of your hips
draws me nearer,
to completion
Brings me closer,
To the heaven
that my grasp fell short of
So long ago...
The infinite softness of all that is you
Defies all logic
Each dip and curve,
But another shadow to chase away
I love you in the sunlight
Warm and bright
I adore you in the moonlight
My goddess brought to earth
Trembling and bending at my touch
The endless depths of your eyes
Find me but a woman
Humbled by the capacity
Of her own swollen heart.

Alrighty then...another, just cause I'm bored waiting for the rest the clubbin' crew to get here.

Imbued in the tangled mass of this moment
Tailed by a pragmatic instance
To deftly sweep my mind away
From a hard-earned glance
Upon your angellic countenance
An overdue brush of my fingertips
Against the incandescent softness
Of your skin...
The tainted essence of my heart
Called to your hands
Bled of all reason
Left a hollow mass
Straining beneath the weight of your kiss
Trembling
Shattered
And finally whole.
