Hello :bigwave

Oh, two updates in one from me, yipee me! They were great updates:applause . Like the phone conversation between Willow aka 'Emma Carpenter' and that woman. Letting poor Willow waiting for an answer about Tara while she has to listen to that music. Now that was really evil but funny at the same time:fallen . And it was nice from Faith when she saw Willow so sad that she would kick some demon ass for her. And the flashback were great. But the last update was so sad :sob :cry .

Can't wait for the next great update

Au revoir

Oh but even if she has a girlfriend I hope we see a happy end for our girls:paranoid

I'm glad you find the discussion of physics and alternative realities over your "little ole head." That's exactly the phrase I was using to describe my confusion. I'm just an old science fiction reader, who's long been comfortable with the notion of alternate realities. You're quite right in saying that every story is an AU. Heinlein used the term "fiction" to mean any created reality, which may be close to but different from its "neighbours." So I'd always thought that Anyanka didn't create a new universe, just located the one that matched Cordelia's wish, and translated her into it.

To the story itself. I'm sorry I haven't had time to respond much to this one; it's been mostly read & run. Nevertheless I've been reading it avidly, eager to see it develop. This story is as beautifully written as "Y'all", but with an underlying sadness that makes it very different from its predecessor. In "Y'all", we knew that any sadness or strife would eventually be happily resolved. It was basically an optimistic, happy love story.

"Paths" is very different in that, for me at least, there is no hopeful solution on the horizon. Tara is dead, and looks likely to remain that way. Willow may possibly find happiness with Tara Too, if at the expense of a friend's broken heart, but this is not the same Tara. Tara Too did not meet Willow at the train in the school pickup and fall in love with her. All the memories they made together happened to someone else. As the story progresses, you are developing very well the sense (as someone put it), that Tara Too is not a spare part, waiting to be replaced in Willow's life. She is an individual, very like Tara, but not identical. She has a life of her own, and even though she felt the emptiness of returning to a Willow-less world, she can't be expected to give up her own life and take on her double's. It seems that this is finally becoming clear to Willow, and so she mourns her loss over again.

Or, hey, maybe I've got it all wrong, and T2 is just rooming with Michelle, all the while pining for the redhead she briefly met in an alternate reality. Best case scenario. If so, they would have to get to know each other and start the relationship from square one. This would be hard for Willow, because she would have assumptions and expectations, and would find it difficult to separate the two Taras. Then there's the whole "your world or mine" discussion. Meanwhile, T1 is still dead, and the sadness remains.

Boy, am I a Gloomy Gus tonight.

In the latest chapter, I found the flashback to the funeral home the most moving. Donnie and Willow sitting together on the couch, numb and burned out with grief; Xander sitting on the floor with Donnie's daughter, others standing around trying to find something to do, something to say. You've obviously had experience of this. Willow's amazement that the world goes on, that people still have to do ordinary things, really struck a chord. I could never understand how other people could be going to work or school or shopping, when [insert name of deceased] is dead. Seems unreal somehow.

So, this story makes me sad & depressed, and I love it and can't wait to get more. Know a good psychologist?

Yeah me, for guessing Tara was with Chelle in Austin based on part 4 (few people seemed to read the title of that chapter :-).

The disadvantage of coming late to giving feedback is that much of what I wanted to say is already said :) . I liked that the phone-call made Willow realize that Tara has her own life now (and has for the last 3 years). Even though that IS sad for Willow it makes me happy for Tara. I really didn't want her to stay single for the rest of her life. (worried about that in "Y'all")

I think Willow only planned ahead up till meeting Tara, should be interesting to see what she does after that.

Would be nice how this Tara gets through her days, how is life treating her ? What is she thinking about ? Is she happy/content ?? Are there vampires in Austin in this universe ??

Yep, should be interesting to see how this plays out. Esp. because some of the problems are so obvious already and don't seem to have an easy solution to them.

littlecrazy80 – I’m glad you are liking it and liking the flashbacks. They are very interesting to work with and really there are two different kinds: flashbacks to Y’all and flashbacks to seasons we didn’t really see. I’m taking the fifth on Tara & Michelle for now.

shuyaku – Sorry about the crying but good that it moved you.
Quote:
think a lot of people would have just cast a spell right back to their own dimension and been done with it
Gosh, that would make this a pretty short and depressing fic.

Quote:
Maybe Chelle and TT are just friends now and sharing a room out of necessity... I mean this is a Wishverse, right? I can indulge in a little wishful thinking on my part
A good wish…

Insanity – See above re: Tara & Michelle. And it does seem to make things more complicated. Hmmm… flashbacks? Lots more yes but I don’t think many more of the three months between now and Tara’s death.

DMW – Yes, I’d say quite reflection and trying to rebuild her strength is just what she needed. I’m glad you weren’t upset by the Michelle/Tara part and have confidence in me…

Quote:
One physicist suggested that there is only one electron in the universe and that's why they're all the same; it's just moving back and forth in time
Now that’s a really amazing concept and it’s moving so fast that it is all matter at once right? Really makes you wonder about things like war and hatred though doesn’t it? I mean if we know that the Iraqui people are made up of the same one particle as we are, why go to war? Ok, that’s a stupid question because why go to war anyway…. Hmmm, not in the mood.

Velaingie – I’m glad you liked both updates.
Quote:
Letting poor Willow waiting for an answer about Tara while she has to listen to that music.
Hmmm… maybe there’s a reason she took some time? Something we don’t know yet? (I’m so cruel). I like this Faith; figure that is how she would approach it.

bluewillowwitch – We are getting very close to a W&T meeting so I think you will be happier soon. I think next update on Monday. I’ll try.

The Rose24 – Uh? :confused Sorry.

Natti – Yes, cool that Tara has someone who cares for her…
Quote:
this Tara has the same life experience like Willow´s Tara???
Now you have hit on a extremely important question…

Grimaldi – Thanks. Glad you liked.

russ – Well, I’m trying to decide if I should be offended that you’re glad I find the reality(ies) discussion over my head but I don’t think so. It’s facinating really. I’ve never been into SF believe it or not. Don’t read it. Don’t read fantasy. Don’t watch Star Trek or any of the rest of it. I watched Quantum Leap and Sliders and liked both those but just never got into the Star Treks.
Quote:
So I'd always thought that Anyanka didn't create a new universe, just located the one that matched Cordelia's wish, and translated her into it.
And the more I think about that the cooler it sounds except for what I asked earlier which is wouldn’t that create an extra Anya & Cordelia in that reality that already existed? But on the other hand if the reality already exists because every possible reality already exists because time and space are infinite then if the Wish creates another, is it a duplicate?

Thanks for your comments on Y’all and Paths and my writing. I’m glad you think it’s beautifully written. I’m consciously learning to write (or at least trying). The points you make about the W/TT situation and hopelessness are part of where I’m trying to go here and also why we are up to part 5 with no Tara in sight. I really want to build that concept that Tara Too is not the spare part to be easily inserted. That even if she has been tragically alone and without Willow for all these years, things are different for her.

Quote:
Boy, am I a Gloomy Gus tonight.
Wouldn’t that be gloomy russ?

Glad you liked the emotion of the wake scene (or maybe shiva). No good psychologists but I know a few good therapists. I’m glad you like it and it moves you.

Grimmy – Tee hee: so you got that predicted! Good for you. Actually the titles of 4 & 5 go together.

Quote:
Would be nice how this Tara gets through her days, how is life treating her ?
The answers to that question will fill quite a bit of this fic. And yes to the problems but fun to write them out. Thanks for your feedback. Sorry everyone beat you to the punch.

Debra...

I've been waiting to reply to this until I had read a few of the updates....and now that I have, here goes. First off, let me just get out one last "Hoorah!" for Season 3. It was a great story, definitely one of my faves. I was so happy that it was set in TX. I am from Mississippi and now live in Washington state. I must say I'm homesick for the South, so hearing you mention cities and landscape that I'm familiar with made me happy. I don't like it here, the food is bland (no spice) and it rains more than my 3-month old son pees (which is quite a lot). Your story had me homesick, but in a happy way.

Okay, now on to this story. At first I wasn't sure where you were taking it. I figured you would have Willow "bring back" Tara from the dead, as other stories have done. But then to see Willow go after alternate Tara, THE alternate Tara from years before at the school...well heck, that's just cool. It reminds me of Rane's "Working Out the Kinks" with the whole "alternate" Tara thing. You can take this story in SO many directions, and I can't wait to see where you head with it. Again, I throw praise at you and bombard you with kitten adoration. You are admired in my eyes....please keep up the good work.

Always, Nation

Flashbacks and dreams indented

Willow woke with a start and looked around the room. The sunlight slashed through the glass doors from the patio and she surmised that she must have slept nearly 20 hours. It was not a huge surprise since she knew that her body needed the rest. I certainly didn’t get that much sleep the first time I stayed here she smirked as she remembered that weekend. Her Tara had planned a surprise weekend away for the two girls for their anniversary. It was the first time they had revealed how much they loved each other and their first time to share that love fully. It was an amazing weekend and one she frequently remembered.

After showering and getting dressed she decided to eat. She ordered a large lunch to be delivered to the patio and opened the doors to let in the light. Finding a newspaper outside the door she began to read through the headlines. As she did it occurred to her that she should start to do some research to find out what this world was like. Pulling a notebook from her backpack she began making a list of events to review in the newspapers of this world. It was apparent from this day’s news that as in her world President Bush had been elected but she would like to know the details on that. In addition she could think of many other events to review.

When she looked up again she realized that a few hours had passed and she had eaten the entire meal. She smiled as she noted just how much fun she could have doing research or planning. After calling downstairs she determined that the hotel had high-speed Internet access and booted up her computer to begin doing her research. She knew that she was putting off calling Tara but persisted for two reasons.

The first and less important was that for the first time in three months, she found herself happy just sitting on the patio and researching. The sun was warming her skin, well heating it actually, but she felt good sweating. It was the first time she had felt really alive since Tara’s death. The waitress came by every 30 minutes to refill her iced coffee and by dinnertime she had worked up a pretty big hyper. The second reason was absolute fear. What if Tara answered? What would she say? What if Tara didn’t answer? She had no idea what she would do in either situation.

After enjoying a light dinner she called down to let the front desk know that she intended to stay another night. Breathing out slowly she set the phone back in the cradle and stared at it. For the third time in the past week she found herself scared silly of a simple piece of plastic with metal and wires inside it. Okay she thought I’ve faced hell gods and vampires and demons. I think I should be able to make a simple phone call. Without looking in a mirror she knew that she now displayed her famous “resolve face.”

Before she could lose nerve she dialed the phone. Her nerves faltered momentarily as Michelle again answered: “Hello?”

“Uh hi,” Willow ad libbed, “is Tara Maclay home?”

“No, she’s not. Can I take a message?” Michelle answered politely. For a second Willow could have sworn that she heard the girl giggle.

Willow had already come up with an idea in case Tara wasn’t at home: “Oh darn. You must be Chelle?” She waited a moment for Michelle to answer that she was. “Well this is Claire from her biology class.”

“Oh right Claire,” Michelle agreed. Willow almost chuckled to herself at the humor of Michelle acting like she had heard of Claire considering that Willow had picked the name out of thin air and didn’t even know if Tara was taking a biology class. You’d think Tara’s girlfriend would know her class schedule better than that she thought somewhat uncharitably.

“Well we have this test next week and I wanted to see if I can borrow her notes,” Willow lied.

Willow thought that she heard Chelle whisper “stop it” with her hand covering the mouthpiece but moments later she heard the girl quickly speak: “Claire, do you want her number at work? She’s there till late but she’s studying.”

“Oh that would be just great,” Willow answered, her pen poised over the paper. She quickly took down the number, read it back, thanked Michelle and got off the call.

Before she could lose her nerve she called the number on the piece of paper. She knew that she had the right number when the voice answering the phone, not Tara’s voice, said, “Pet Hospital.”

“Oh, what’s your address?” Willow asked and wrote down the answer quickly before hanging up. That was enough for tonight she decided. Tomorrow she would go to Austin and see what happened but now it was time to go to bed early.

---

Still attempting to pry off the fingers tickling her without mercy Michelle replaced the phone and turned around. “I was on the phone,” she giggled.

“I could tell,” Eliza teased without lessening her assault on the runner’s ribs and underarms. Beginning to kiss her lover’s neck the younger girl whispered, “did I hear you say that Tara was working until late?”

“Mmm hmmm,” Michelle purred as she reached her arms behind her to pull the smaller girl closer.

“Then come back to bed,” Eliza whispered. Like the redhead miles away, the two younger girls went to bed early.

---

“Do you want a refill?”

Willow was startled from her concentration on the screen in front of her. “Huh?” she answered lamely.

“You seem really involved in what you’re reading. I said do you want a refill?” the waitress repeated.

“Oh yeah,” Willow nodded, “thanks.”

“You don’t have trouble sleeping?” the girl asked after having poured the warm-up. Willow shrugged non-committally. “If you do, maybe you just need some exercise in the late evening,” the girl suggested.

“Uh, maybe I’ll try that,” Willow offered, not 100% sure what the girl was saying.

“We could get some dinner after I’m done here if you want?” the waitress asked, confirming Willow’s suspicions.

“Thanks for the offer but I really don’t… I mean not that I don’t eat because I do eat. I mean food not… Well you know but well I just don’t think that I …” she looked down at her computer as the waitress started laughing and mumbled something about “can’t blame a girl for offering,” before moving across the shop.

Willow looked at her computer screen with a blush burning in her cheeks. It was her second day sitting in this coffee shop. She felt like a detective from a B novel staking out the Animal Hospital across the street. It was obvious why Tara would work at this place, besides her love for animals and her wish to be a veterinarian someday that is. She had counted 5 different busses that stopped right across the street, which would make it extra convenient for the blond witch. Willow was sure that her finances would be no better in this world than in the other: why would they?

The first day Willow had arrived right after lunch and waited until after 10:00 at night before deciding that Tara must not be working. In the time yesterday and her wait so far today she had made a few conclusions about Austin. First was that the city was very wired. More than half of the people coming into the coffee shop carried a computer, which they set up and began working on or playing or whatever. She found out that the coffee shop offered a membership-type thing where you could pay a flat fee and use their wireless hub so that you could be online at the shop. Since the fee was low and money wasn’t really an object, the redhead had eagerly paid the cost and then set to work hacking the system to keep anyone else from spying on what she was doing. Her second conclusion was that Austin was a very gay-friendly city, or maybe not so much gay-friendly as just plain gay. Even using a pretty conservative estimate and not counting questionable interactions, she had been hit on by two waitresses including the one working right now and 5 girls who had stopped in for coffee. One of them had outright propositioned her and she still reeled from the shock of the offer. Bluntness aside, she couldn’t even imagine being with anyone but Tara. She never had been and didn’t particularly ever want to be.

As the afternoon wore on she kept watch out the window for each bus that pulled up and continued her research. She was working her way through the different news media and had found nearly identical news stories to those that she remembered. She spent hours reading the newspapers from September 12 and found those reports to be virtually identical. Her review of the numerous and lengthy stories on the presidential elections showed the same outcome although it seemed to her that the vote counts were different in some states for some candidates. Having read national and international news she was beginning on sports and entertainment news.

She was also working on recreating her college transcript. She had printed out her transcript before leaving her reality and was working on creating a duplicate of it in electronic form on her laptop. She figured that once she had created the records, she would hack the UC Sunnydale system, which probably wouldn’t be any harder than it was in her reality, and upload the transcript, so that she would have her educational history in this reality. She was still trying to figure out how to renew her identity since she had been dead for six years here.

As another bus came by she watched expectantly for Tara to get off and go into the animal hospital but she did not. Maybe she’s not working again today Willow began to suspect. Looking at her watch and noting the time at 5:45 she decided to give it another hour before leaving for some dinner and returning the next day. I really am like a detective on a stake-out she giggled to herself.

A few minutes into her self-imposed deadline a blue Volvo pulled into the Animal Hospital parking lot and parked. She had not noticed the space that was marked for a handicapped vehicle but now noticed that the Volvo in fact had taken that space. Willow found it amazing what kind of pets people had and brought to the veterinarian: dogs, cats, birds, iguana, ferrets, and more. Traffic slowed significantly around 4:30 and she assumed that must be the time they stopped taking appointments. She waited expectantly to see what kind of animal the driver of the Volvo had and made an internal bet that it would be a medium-sized dog.

As the door swung open she watched to see the driver and particularly the pet emerge from the vehicle. Predictably two jeans-covered legs swung from the car first. It took her a moment to process the tip of the cane that came out next and landed next to the left foot before the driver hoisted herself from the car and started toward the door of the hospital. Maybe she’s going to get help to bring in the animal Willow surmised. However, the driver did not come back out the door but appeared to go through a door into the back of the office. As the redhead sat there shocked she began to put together the clues: blonde hair, beautiful body, jeans in the dead heat of summer, and didn’t come back out to get a dog. That wasn’t an animal owner; it’s Tara. But what happened? Why does she walk with a cane? And drive a Volvo? Did she win the lottery and get hit by a truck like in that Alanis Morrisette song?

After a few minutes the blonde came back out into the lobby of the hospital and bending down visited with a few people and their animals before returning to sit behind the desk. The guy who she was relieving visited with her for a few minutes before picking up his backpack and leaving. As soon as he did Tara pulled her books from her backpack and began studying.

Willow’s emotions were confused and scattered. On one hand she was excited about seeing Tara again. Her love for the woman poured out and she could feel tears pooling in her eyes. Some part of her knew that this was not the same woman that she loved but another part said that it could be. She was also feeling fear over what to do and curiosity about what had happened in Tara’s life in the past four years. There was obviously so much that the redhead didn’t know! For hours she watched Tara studying and occasionally helping people with their emergencies. She knew that she should get something to eat but just couldn’t leave the coffee shop, as if she feared that if she left or closed her eyes Tara would disappear. Realizing that she was in no shape to meet the woman of her dreams tonight she decided to come back tomorrow and go over to the animal hospital. After packing up she started to leave and heard the waitress call behind her, “see you tomorrow?” Willow nodded and smiled back that she would be right here.

Assuming that Tara probably worked a similar schedule every day, Willow merely drove by the pet clinic during the early afternoon to ensure that Tara’s car was not there. When it was not she took the rest of the day to tour the city, stopping to ask people what she should visit. Faith was right: there were a lot of bars in town and even more coffee shops. If she hadn’t been planning on spending most of her evening at a coffee shop, she might have visited a few of the more interesting ones.

About 5:30 she returned to her spot at the shop and got her coffee and a sandwich. Right on schedule Tara pulled in a few minutes before 6:00 and Willow watched her appreciatively as she got out of the car. As far as the redhead could tell her injury had not negatively impacted her appearance and Willow felt her body respond to her beauty. As she sat and watched, another Volvo pulled in and parked. She was shocked to see Eliza get out of the car and go inside to visit with the blonde. She was even more shocked as the girl looked both ways before crossing the street. It was obvious that she was coming over to the shop.

Willow started to panic. Eliza would see her and her cover would be blown. Again she giggled at the image of herself in trench coat and fedora, her cover blown by an enemy agent. She slouched in her seat and pulled a magazine from a stack by the window to hold in front of her face. As she surreptitiously watched Eliza ordered two drinks, flirted casually with the waitress, paid, and left. Only as Eliza was reentering the clinic with the drinks did Willow realize that Eliza wouldn’t have recognized her anyway; this Eliza had never met or seen the redhead.

After bringing Tara her coffee, Eliza sat down and began visiting with the blonde. At times she was very animated, standing and moving around the waiting room waving her arms as if telling a very amusing story. Watching Tara laugh Willow felt as if something were pulling her toward the blonde. She had the same half-smile, the same way of tilting her head and it was hard to wait until Eliza left to go over to the hospital.

As she watched Willow wondered about the relationships between the three girls. If Tara and Michelle were still together then where did Eliza fit in? Did she have a girlfriend? Had Michelle and Eliza never felt their natural connection? Willow wondered, in this reality, would I be with Eliza? The thought made her giggle and shake her head. After a few more minutes Eliza gave the blonde a hug, got in her car, and drove away.

Willow knew she had to do this before she lost her nerve. After sucking on a mint for a minute, she put her bag in the trunk of her car and started across the street. She could see Tara through the window but the blonde was studying intently and didn’t notice her moving toward the door. At the door she stopped for a minute before pulling it open quickly, like pulling off a band-aid all at once, and stepping through.

Tara looked up, obviously about to ask what she could do to help the pet owner, and saw Willow. The words she was about to say dried up in her mouth, a mouth that hung open in shock. Each woman stared into the eyes of the other for seconds. Finally Tara broke the silence as she asked, “Willow?”

That was a wonderful update :clap :party

I was relieved to find out that Eliza and Michelle are together, makes things easier for Willow.

It seems that Willows planning to stay in this reality rather than ask Tara to return to her own.

What's up with Tara having a cane?

Finally what is Willow going to say to Tara, "Hi, I was in the neighbourhood and thought I'd drop in for coffee"?

Ok, the final sentence was a total surprise, but in a way, I can see how she would remember, kind of. Since Willow and Tara remembered DopplerTara, then, DopplerTara would remember them. Right?

I'm loving the story Debra, hope I can read some more before I go. :grin

You're too nice, letting us know who Michelle was with before Willow did. Unlike some other posts, I expected Tara to recognize Willow, but I'm very curious about how she's changed and it's interesting to see Willow settling in (or is that hacking in? ;-) for the long haul.

Great update. It moved the story along nicely and yet it kept up the suspense. And ending with a whopper of a cliffhanger is always good writing. First rule...always keep 'em wanting more.

What still strikes me as interesting/odd is that all vampire-trouble seems have passed by Texas. Austin appears to be the same it would be in the normal universe, just with some people different in it.

What's up with seperate nc17 link by the way ? You *are* allowed to post nc-17 stuff on this board you know :D . It's not a really 'alternative' version hopefully, that would be confusing... just the version nc17-version.. :) .

I liked this quote for several reasons:
Quote:
She smiled as she noted just how much fun she could have doing research or planning
For one it's so typically Willow and the second reason follows from there and is that Willow's finally becoming more normal Willow like again. As she mentioned herself she feels alive for the first time in a long while.

So now they've seen each other, now what does Willow intend to say ? I have this nagging feeling she didn't really prepare this part all that well. Did she lookup Tara during her research in the internet-cafe ? Willow really shouldn't stay that long in such a cafe, she hypers way to easily :D .

She should be proud so many girls hit on her. Goes to prove she's not some nerd only seen be Tara for her true self.

Chelle/Tara/Eliza: on the one hand it's nice that Chelle is with Eliza at the moment. On the other hand it makes feel sad for Tara that's single and I'm left wondering how long she spend being single and why. Hopefully not because of meeting Willow in another dimension because that would mean she has been lonely for quite some time :cry . Also curious as to how Tara's accident (assuming the cane thing was an accident and she didn't suddenly get a familly from Hell) figures into all this. I'll be pissed if that caused the break-up.

Oh yeah, Willow calling Tara and speaking to Chelle was nicely done. I could really imagine Willow staring at that phone like it was an evil demon and being verrrry hesitant to dial the number at all. I'll bet she was glad to have an excuse not to call Tara on her work number that same day :D

How long will our two girls be staring at one-another you think ?? : -->>:

Yay! Tara still remembers Willow from her very brief visit to the other reality a few years earlier! Goes to show what an impression Willow made on her! hee. Sorry I haven't responded lately, but am loving this story!!

I also wanted to respond to the alternate reality discussion that's been running through this thread. The star trek nerd in me is quite facinated by the idea that there are already an infininate number of realities, and that a vengence demon like Anya simply picks the appropriate one for the wish. And if each reality is totally separate in its own right, all are equally valid, and sadly, Willow is just chasing after a ghost...and willow has no claim on AltTara.

Ok, so thats what the star trek nerd thinks.... BUT I am also a hopeless romantic. In order for me to be emotionally invested in this piece, I prefer to subscribe to the idea that the wishverse simply branched off from the original reality. And I THINK that is what is intended here, considering the title is Paths DIVERGED/Divulged. (correct me if I'm wrong Debra?)

I look at it this way...One of the central themes of Willow/Tara fiction, in fact one might argue a REQUIRED theme on the kittenboard, is that Willow and Tara are DESTINED to be together. No ifs ands or buts, were talking big cosmic destiny here. Now, with that said, what the heck happens when something comes along to completely screw that up?(ie tara being shot) The universe out of balance, everything is WRONG, and the Fates are pissed off. One might say it is an UNNATURAL state of being.....

But guess what else is unnatural? The branching off of the wishverse. Another Tara, but no Willow. Two realities where there used to be one. Hmmmm perhaps its just part of Fate's cosmic balancing act. (Maybe there's more to that "spare parts" theory than meets the eye....) After all, this divergence was already prophecied in the cryptic conversations with tara's mother.

In other words, something fractured in the universe. But fate has found away for it to be healed. It can never be good as new, but the fracture can be healed, with some scarring of course, and become WHOLE again.

And this concept supports the whole destiny thing...AltTara wasn't always alternative Tara. That only happened when her reality split off from the original. So when she was born, she was just plain Tara, a Tara who was destined to be with Willow. She may be in another reality now, but she is still made for willow. Whether she leaves her reality to follow willow, or if willow gives up her friends in sunnydale to stay with tara in the wishverse, will be a very fun question to watch unfold. Or will something cosmic happen to merge the two realities again?....hmm their are many possibilties, and I am eager to see what you do with this.

Now get back to work writing this awesome story! :boot

:eek What a nice surprise!!! I can't wait to see how they handle this. I am ready to find out what is going on with Tara.

I am SOOOOO glad Michelle and Eliza are together. I never assumed Michelle and Tara were together though. There wasn't any proof.

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.

Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Oh Debra...What are you doing, girl?!? At first I thought Chelle was just "screening" for Tara, who was doing Naughty Things With Her Hands, but then she gives Willow the work number and I think, "Oh my God--Bitch is cheating on Tara!" Now I wonder if Tara and Chelle have followed that inimitable lesbian tradition of remaining best friends w/ your lover after you break up w/ her. (Hey--I know I have!)

You give us a great tour through Willow's inner workings. You help us understand her hesitation even in the midst of her urgency. (It's a nicely-executed balance.) You also use a nice combination of humor and poignance, as Willow can both laugh at the image of herself as clandestine voyeur AND cry at the image of meeting Tara again. And Tara's disability--permanent or temporary? In either case, I commend you for including someone who faces a very real struggle.

And now, a confession of my own "duh-ness": I read about the cane emerging from the car, and I thought "Oh my God--she's blind!" And then I realized that this might make driving a bit complicated, not to mention ill-advised.

Great work, Debra--can't wait for more.

Alright, since I fig'd that this would be a rather unpopular post, I have decided to add a disclaimer.

DISCLAIMER: The following comments and thoughts are mine alone. I speak for no one else other than the voices in my head. You do NOT have to agree with the following.

Michelle with Eliza!!! I know that Willow and Tara belong together, but quite frankly that makes the process TOO FRICKIN EASY!!! I mean, I'm up for some easy smut as much as the next guy/gal, really! I am! But for crying out loud, where's the passion? Where's the internal struggle between something that is already so good and something that could possibly be so much better? Where's the screaming matches as everything you thought you knew started to fall by the wayside with practically no explination? Instead of having all that, we just have Tara practically waiting for Willow to come along and sweep her off her feet. I know that's way oversimplifying things but damn it! I was really hoping for something more.

But on the other hand, it could evolve into something far more stirring than what I had in mind, so here's hoping. I patiently, if not happily, await the next update.

great update :)

Willow's comments about being on a stakeout were funny. glad that Michelle is with Eliza in this reality, now that Willow and Tara have met can't wait to see what happens next

I'm not stealing, I'm just taking things without paying for them. In what twisted dictionary is that stealing?
Oh, relax, Casper, I'm not here to interrupt your blissing. Too much makes you go blind, though, you know

BFR from Paris – Tee hee. Not expected? Well cool. It will be explained for the most part I’d say soon.

Justin – Yes, things are definitely easier for Willow since M&E are together. The cane will be explained in the next post (and many more after that – it’s important). Great question about what Willow is planning to ask.

Washi – Well yeah, it was a pretty strange day right? So you’ve got to believe that she would remember it. I’ll probably post Saturday so you may get to see it. Have a great trip.

DMW – Hey cool for you figuring that Tara would remember Willow. And as you point out, Willow still doesn’t know about Michelle and Eliza but we do… Tee hee. I’m not sure whether Willow is actually setting in or just allowing for any possibility. Plus which she may think that it may take a little while to convince Tara to come with her.

Susan – Hey thanks for the cliffhanger thoughts. I still think my best cliffhanger ever is Turned Part 13 but even if I never equal that, I can still write some cliffs anyway to hang my story from. Glad you’re enjoying.

Well, I rarely see any vampires here so it’s pretty normal even if people run a lot of red lights.

RE: the NC-17. I’ve always been a little confused about whether other/other NC-17 parts were allowed on the Kitten. Whether they are allowed or not, I’ve never really thought they were particularly appropriate. Nevertheless, I wanted to show the intensity of Michelle & Eliza’s relationship so I put the NC-17 part somewhere else. (Believe me, I know NC-17 is allowed here or have you never noticed? :grin )

You are Justin are entirely right: Willow hasn’t planned what to say next as will be apparent with the next update. Everything regarding the accident (yes it was an accident), recovery, being single, Michelle & Eliza, etc. will be explained but somethings earlier than others.

WTJunkie – Cool, another viewpoint on the alternative realities discussion.
Quote:
the idea that the wishverse simply branched off from the original reality. And I THINK that is what is intended here, considering the title is Paths DIVERGED/Divulged
Right on!

Yes, you are exactly right about the mission of this board: that W&T are destined to be together. In a way that is responsible for this fic existing. When I wrote Dopplegangland Too for Y’all I sent it to Xita for approval (always thanks for Xita!). We went through a few drafts but the basic thing was that it needed to be obvious that Tara Too would feel the loss of Willow because they should be together…

Quote:
In other words, something fractured in the universe. But fate has found away for it to be healed. It can never be good as new, but the fracture can be healed, with some scarring of course, and become WHOLE again
Yes and one question that I think exists is can the becoming whole again actually be even better??? Can it build on the existing groundwork and even add to that?

Quote:
And this concept supports the whole destiny thing...AltTara wasn't always alternative Tara. That only happened when her reality split off from the original. So when she was born, she was just plain Tara, a Tara who was destined to be with Willow.
That’s an amazingly beautiful thought…

The Rose24 – Thanks. Glad that you weren’t sucked in by Willow’s assumptions. Of course we don’t know yet that Tara’s not with Elizabeth. Maybe Tara & Elizabeth are together and Michelle & Eliza? :evil

Mary – Hmmm, the elves are running wild again aren’t they? Sure you can assume that Chelle is cheating on Tara if you want and of course it would be very typical lesbian for Tara & Eliza to be friends… But maybe you are right about Tara & Chelle being friends…

Quote:
And now, a confession of my own "duh-ness": I read about the cane emerging from the car, and I thought "Oh my God--she's blind!" And then I realized that this might make driving a bit complicated, not to mention ill-advised.
Having spent the morning driving through the construction site otherwise known as I35, I am very glad that you aren’t giving out driving licenses…

Natti – All will be explained in time but it will take a while. But, Willow in this reality was a vampire who was staked by Oz upon returning to this world.

mocha field22 – Good questions and all will be answered in time. Thanks for reading.

Texan – Woo hoo! A dissenting opinion. I’d say that you aren’t going to get what you were hoping for but I hope that what you get will be even better. I make no promises but I really like the source of passion, confusion, and evolution here. I hope you will too. But I can understand your disappointment. Thanks for being honest! :clap

Grimaldi – Thanks as always. Yes M&E clear it up a little.

Romy – Hey. First thing is that I forgot to add the note to thank you. I’ll do that in my next update but thanks for posting the NC-17 link! Yes you are right that Tara Too remembers Willow from her visit. I’ll explain the accident soon.

Insanity – Bummer about trouble logging in. Sometimes that happens to me if I forget to log off one place and want to post somewhere else.
Quote:
So whats the what with Austin??? I might have to visit, you know, with all the pretty girls around... So, have you been there?
Ha ha. Well I haven’t been to Austin since this morning. Seriously, I live here and it’s an awesome place. Extremely liberal, recreational, awesome live music and entertainment and very big gay community. On the other hand, traffic stinks.

Ha ha about the cane in your dictionary. I’m scared of what it might have said. Yes, it’s a walking stick like with a rounded handle and a rubber stopper at the end. It would probably be the final walking aid if you were progressing through a series of aids or you might use it forever if your disability would never be fully healed.

bluewillowwitch – Thanks. A few days.
