It's A Face in the Crowd Wednesday 2/12 MKF

Postby BBOvenGuy » Tue Feb 11, 2003 11:17 pm

Well, it's almost Wednesday, anyway. :shy

I was singing at my church this past Sunday, when I saw a man who looked familiar to me walking up to receive communion. At first I thought it was our assistant director's partner, but when he got closer I realized that's not who it was. But he still looked familiar. I just hadn't placed the face yet.

When we walked out of the church during the retiring procession, I saw the man standing at the end of a pew as I approached - and suddenly I realized who it was.

It was Steve Rankin, a character actor who typically does military roles - and who also played Tara's father in "Family." :shock

All Saints has a number of actors counted among its membership. One sang in my choir for a time, and I've seen Kathy Baker (of Picket Fences, Boston Public and many movies) working at the Hunger Ministry table on many occasions. But this was the first time I'd seen anyone with a Mutant Enemy connection. I can't help wondering if there are any more.

What do you think Willow and Tara would do if they happened upon a TV or movie personality in the middle of a crowd? Have you ever had something like that happen to you?

Have a great day, everybody! :bounce

Well, as for actors in my town we have quiet a few:

Oprah ( not Uma, Oprah )

Lili Taylor and Amy Madigan ( family around here )
uhm, Jeremy Piven is pretty big.

Unfortunetly the only one I've ever helped has been Oprah's best friend, Gail Allen, whom she talks about a lot * shrugs *

And as for meeting or seeing famous people, I met the Indigo Girls, and could have thought of some questions or something while she signed my ticket, but all I could say was "wow, your Amy Ray." Like she wouldn't know that already!

As for Willow and Tara? I think Willow would get all goofy and Tara would constantly remind her that "hey, it's just a person."

Thanks for letting me relive one of my most embarrassing moments:blush

I worked for the Evil Empire (Starbucks) while I was in university, and it was in one of the more la-de-da areas, as that's where my school was. Antway I'm working behind the espresso machine making drinks when in walks Robin Williams.

Some back story - Robin Williams album 'this is a recording- let me survive - his improv and comedy kept me going yjrough some really nasty stuff in my youth.

Anyway I get his drink order - a mocha - I'm doing the evil fan thing and gawking horribly - I finish his drink put it up on the service area for him - and to really impress him I utter - 'mocha' and keep staring with my mouth wide open catching flies. He of course takes his drinks and tries to get away from the scary drink maker quickly and goes up into the bookstore.

What I hear later makes me love him more. He went into the bookstore asking about CAnadian authors - and bought awhole bunch of books by local authors.

I've passed the occasional famous face when I'm downtown (Toronto, that is); as Hollywood North, that tends to happen from time to time.

But, since I don't really follow all the big stars that much, I probably don't care as much as some people. I just look on it as good for the local economy.

(Little-known-fact: This year's most-Oscar-nominated film, Chicago, was shot in Toronto, as was the most successful independent film of all time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)

If W/T met somebody? They'd probably 'ohmigod' amongst each other, until one of them (likely Tara) got up the nerve to ask for an autograph. And, of course, once that person meets Tara, there's no way they can say no to that face!

I always remember the scene in "dick" when the two protagonists meet the president and freak out when I think of w/t meeting someone famous.
for myself-
Only one. While going to see "celuloud closet" I saw Julia Child outside the theatre.
Oh, and I met the guy who played "sir graves ghastly" on Tv50 in detroit when I was 8 and mentioned to him I thought he was short (he was!!).

I used to volunteer for the town's rescue squad and once a year, we went from house to house collecting donation. I knocked on a door in a very affluent part of town and the comedian Bobcat Goldthwaite answered the door.
The only other celeb here is Uncle Floyd. He's a local comedian and owns a resturant. I play softball with his wife.
I took Tim Conway to the hospital in the ambulance and was a stand by crew assigned to Frank Sinatra at his birthday concert. He gave the squad a thousand dollars and each of us on the crew one hundred dollars. I still have a copy of the check that he gave me. I thought that was pretty cool.

Love to All,

Well, as my family vacations every summer on Martha's Vineyard, I have both met Bill Clinton and his family, as well as sat through church with them. I'm not sure if that counts as celebrity, per se, but it did cause quite a stir on the island.

We also see Spike Lee regularly getting coffee in the morning, and Carly Simon is everywhere. On the Vineyard though, people mostly just let celebrities mind their own business.

My only other brush with celebrity was when I was in the sixth grade. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was at the Colonial Theater in Boston, and my church's children's choir was in the children's choir for the show. Which of course meant that we got to meet and perform with Donny Osmond! :p I still have a poster from the show that he autographed, and he regularly talked to us whenever he was around where we were on stage. All in all, he was actually very nice.

Hmmm celebrities...well I got to meet Lucy Lawless on the final day of her performance in Grease....she was smashingly polite. The next day I got to meet Ted Raimi and Renee O'Connor. They both chatted with me and a friend for almost fifteen minutes plust they signed my birthday card! Renee was just so damned sweet I thought I would faint. She really wanted to know stuff about us.

I ran into Dennis Miller on South Street one afternoon. I bumped into him on a street corner and his coffee went all over me. He was very kind and even offered to pay for my clothes to get clean. I settled for an autograph :grin I was the security guard for Mary Chapin Carpenter when she was at Hersheypark. She was deathly ill and thanked me for making some fans behave themselves. That was a night to remember.

I could go on because I'm from Philly and we get to see celebrities all of the time.

I occasionally see celebrities when I'm providing background music for weddings or other events. I try to pretend that I don't recognize them. Asking for an autograph would be out of the question. One thing that I've noticed is that a lot of actors and actresses look especially well-put-together in their off-hours. There's some excellent skin-care going on in Hollywood. (Not to mention a few more invasive appearance enchancers.:wink )

If W&T ran into a celeb, I think Willow would have a harder time controlling herself than Tara would. Tara would have to take charge and tell Willow to get a grip.

Hello Kittens-

If W/T met a celeb together, Tara would be shy, Willow would try to be cool but probably find herself speechless. Later they'd talk about what the celeb's work had meant to them at some point in their lives. We know how the day would end.:)

If Tara met them on her own, I can see her picking up on their feelings. If they were down she'd try, haltingly, to help. If they had eyes and a brain and reacted to the way cute girl in front of them I think she'd be shy, embarrassed and maybe later tell Willow about it and give W a chance to prove Tara is hers in the nicest possible way.

With Willow, perhaps the same thing if they're down, but babble mode would kick in otherwise. And if the celeb flirted, somehow I see the same end result with Tara proving her 'ownership' of all things Willow.

Of course, I'm a romantic.

I am carrying out a command from Dr G
[quote:409b4f413e]Quote:
Behave y'all. Go to the daily thread write the recipe for haggis a 100 times. :grin
[/quote:409b4f413e] Will once do??

Genuine Haggis

1 sheep's stomach bag plus the pluck (lights, liver and heart)
1 lb Lean mutton
6 oz Fine oatmeal
8 oz Shredded suet
2 large Onions, chopped

Salt and pepper about 1/4 pint beef stock. Soak the stomach bag in salted water overnight. Place the pluck (lights, liver and heart) in a saucepan with the windpipe hanging over the edge. Cover with water and boil for 1 1/2 hours. Impurities will pass out through the windpipe and it is advisable to place a basin under it to catch any drips. Drain well and cool. Remove the windpipe and any gristle or skin. Mince the liver and heart with the mutton. (Add some of the lights before mincing if you wish.) Toast the oatmeal gently until pale golden brown and crisp. Combine with minced mixture, suet and onion. Season well and add sufficient stock to moisten well. Pack into the stomach bag, filling it just over half-full as the stuffing will swell during cooking. Sew up the bag tightly or secure each end with string. Put an upturned plate in the base of a saucepan of boiling water, stand the haggis on this and bring back to the boil. Prick the haggis all over with a large needle to avoid bursting and boil steadily for 3 to 4 hours. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

I'm just following orders... :grin

I was returning from a sales meeting in Toronto standing in the first class line at the airport there when I looked over at the guy at the next kiosk and saw a familiar face. I tried to figure out who he was and then just assumed that he was from my company and must have attended the same meeting I had. I mean why else would I recognize him right? Just when I was about to make some silly small talk conversation about the company trying to kill us by powerpoint it hit me. He was Jarrod from the Subway ads. LOL.

Airports and airplanes are where I see all my celebrities. Usually when I travel to LA or NY. I've sat next to Carl Reiner on a plane as well as Keith Carradine and I most recently saw that really annoying idiot kid Robb from the last Survivor at DIA.

'Idol' Semi-Finalist Dismissed from Show
Wed, Feb 12, 2003 11:24 AM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "American Idol" semi-finalist and early fan favorite Frenchie Davis has been dropped from the show.

Davis, 23, was dismissed after FOX officials learned she had once posed topless for an Internet site that claimed to feature pictures of underage girls, TheSmokingGun.com reports. Davis was over 18 when she posed for the photos.

All evidence that Davis was ever involved with "American Idol" has vanished from the contestant portion of FOX's web site for the series. There are, however, numerous angry postings on the show's message boards about her dismissal, and online petitions have been started to reinstate her.

Davis had been scheduled to appear with the final group of semi-finalists on Tuesday, Feb. 25, but will be replaced by another contestant.

"Idol" producer 19 Entertainment, which signs the contest winner to a management contract, says that despite Davis' dismissal, it will "do all in its power" to help her establish a music career, according to USA Today.

"American Idol" carries a TV-G rating, and FOX pitches the show as family-friendly viewing, which may partly explain Davis' dismissal. However, the network chose not to remove Sarah Kozer, a "Joe Millionaire" participant who has appeared -- fully clothed -- in several bondage and fetish films, from that series.

FOX reportedly knew about the films beforehand but allowed Kozer to take part in the show nonetheless.

While vacationing in Nashville, TN a few years ago, my travel companion insisted we go to this huge flea market. :rolleyes As we were aimlessly walking about, we met Diana Ross. :shock Apparently, "She Works Hard for the Money" so she can spend it at the flea market. :D

Rane: Sorry to hear you are upset at the American Idol thing. I just can't seem to hop onto that show's bandwagon. I must be missing something because so many kittens talk about it. :hmm

Hmmm...meeting famous people.

Well, Once upon a time [it was 1978] I was 'local liason' on a TV movie called 'The corn is green' set in a welsh village. The set was in a little place called Ysbyty Ifan and starred..... Katherine Hepburn *gasp*, and a somewhat less gaspy Toyah Wilcox. One day nothing went right and the director decided to call it a day early. About to go home I was surprised to be summoned to "take Miss Hepburn and Miss Wilcox, and show them the sights of the area"

So imagine me trundling around Bettws y Coed and Conwy in my mini traveller [ a mini 'woody' station wagon, to you US Kitties] with Katherine Hepburn in the front seat and Toyah in the back.

She was very nice [KH] and was genuinely interested in everything. I'll never forget her wanting a real pub lunch and a pint of Bass bitter.

I did'nt take to TW much tho :(

Then there was that time I met Amber Benson........ ah hang on that's in my dreams, every night. :whistle

Coming from smallville USA, I've not had the chance to meet many famous people, but I'm kind of happy with the ones I have met. I met Ani Difranco at a Green Party Superrally in Chicago..gosh, almost 2 years ago. Also that night I met Ralph Nader, Winona LaDuke, Jello Biaffra (sp) and Patti Smith, which I thought was kind of cool...but they didnt take my breath away like Ani. I also met Sarah from K's choice in Detroit. She is so sweet and one of the most gracious women I've ever met. I have a card written to me personally from Tori Amos, I never met her, but she came into my aunt's bar and she (my aunt) had a conversation with her...she ended up writing a beautiful letter in the card for me, so YAY aunt becki. And also have an autograph from Angelina Jolie aquired in the same way.
Now that I think about it, that's not too bad for a smallville USA resident. :)

OK, just have to say how jealous I am of Kieli and Aimee for meeting Renee O'Connor and Ani respectively. Oh, right, then there's the KITTENS WHO'VE MET AMBER. OR ALY. !!!OR AMBER!!! <Insert pouting, growling angrily emoticon here>. In any case, I'm very, very bitter. Not to worry... One day, my dears, one fine day, I'll meet them both. Probably not in my current location of Saskatchewan, Canada, but I will meet Amber at least once in this lifetime, I promise you that ;) . I've met... Um, the Backstreet Boys (Yeah, I know, before you mock mercilessly, we stayed at the same hotel, by accident, not that I expect that to stop anyone)... That's all I can think of, though I think there have been others whom I'm forgetting. Oh, I saw 2 girls from the super-amazing-and-obviously-still-famous-Canadian-Popstars TV Show-Band-and I'm not being-the least-bit-sarcastic Sugarjones shopping awhile ago. That redhead's hot. What's her name? Sahara? Hot.

As for W/T, I totally see them both trying to be cool at first, then Willow cracks and freaks out, then Tara makes a funny, excited comment and giggles, then tries to keep a spying Willow in line :)

Gonna go try and find the bisexuality thread,
Elise
