It's "Wakey Wakey!!!" Monday MKF! 2/3/03

Postby tommo » Mon Feb 03, 2003 3:38 am

So I went to bed in a bad mood last night; due to some unfinished business and unsolicited contact from a person I'd really rather avoid right now. Anyhoo, after feeling entirely too tired and flopping into bed like a wet fish, I found it difficult to sleep. I woke up almost every half hour and kept glancing over at the clock on my desk, wondering why the hell I couldn't stay asleep for more than 30 minutes. My normally comfortable bed was horribly uncomfortable last night and you know, there was nothing I wished for more than a few hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I eventually got up at around 7.30, after spending a couple of hours chatting on the phone. I was, however, in a much better mood by the time I got up but now it's not far off midday and my eyes are already droopy and all I really want to do is go back to bed. You know that feeling when you're spacing out watching television and you think, hey, what happened to the last ten minutes? Heh.

So I guess my question for you all today is what kind of a sleeper are you? I'm normally an insomniac and don't sleep a lot, but lately I've managed to get my sleep under control and was enjoying six uninterrupted hours every night. God, what bliss...

I do move around a lot in bed though. I've the luxury of a double bed all to myself and make good use of it by assuming the "lesbian starfish" method, heh heh. I like to spread out when I'm sleeping and roll over, finding the cool spot on the sheets or the pillows. Heaven help the woman who wants to spend the night with me; she's liable to end up with my elbow in her mouth. ;)

And um, because I know I'm supposed to think of a Willow/Tara type question, I guess I have to wonder how they like to sleep. My guess is spooning works for them. I mean hell, who doesn't spooning work for? Can't wait till I get to spoon again, sigh...

Right then. I'm off to make another coffee in an attempt to at least make it to 9pm tonight. Early to bed I think. And those of you that know me know what a terrible lie that is, heh.

Have a good day kittens.

I tossed and turned all last night too, I don't know why, so today I am also drooping rather. What else?

Early to bed [not]. check
Move around a lot. check
Tendency to insomnia. check

Like to spoon up behind another woman. check :wink

I didn't sleep very well because I had an exam this morning... my girlfriend called me twice last night to wish me good luck. I really miss her as I won't get to see her this month what with all these damn law college exams! We are a couple of hundred miles away from each other this year, but hopefully we will both be living and working in London next year.

Right hang on, I have drifted off the sleeping topic: I sleep like a log, even with the gf who wriggles all night long and tries to physically shove me out of bed in her sleep, except when I have an exam the next day.

I think Willow and Tara always curl up together and even if they start the night at different ends of the bed end up in each other's arms by the end of it.

Problems sharing a bed? No, never. I find it incredibly lonely if I'm on my own, despite the fact I'm not an overly 'cuddly sleeper'. I'm usually flat out on my front drooling into my pillow. (Such a nice image).

Frustratingly however I take ages to get to sleep. My brain seems to have this shut down time that any fossilised computer would be proud of before it says that it is now safe for me to turn off. (Turning me on I guess is a far easier task :whistle )

Late to bed, early to rise. I'm definitely a morning person.

Well, I guess Willow and Tara spoon next to each other in their big bed, but I think they take it in turns to snuggle each other to sleep just to make sure that both of them are getting just the right amount of hugs. But what would they do if they were camping and had to share a sleeping bag? *pause while mind wanders*

I love my bed Im totally besotted by it, and would dearly love to spend more time in it. However late to bed I am, I always have to get up by 6am to see to the dog, who does not respect my right or need to sleep . So today, Ruth, Im like you semi awake and struggling to keep my eyes open. Serves me right for staying up way too late last night

Good Morning Kitties,

Sleeping...hmmm. Well, I don't have a problem sleeping as a rule. Occasionally, I'll have a bout with a sleepless night. Whether I'm on my back or my stomach I tend to cram my hands under my pillow with my elbows out to the sides.

Somehow I picture Willow sleeping half on top of Tara.....

Willow sleeping half on top of Tara. Sigh. That's a great image. Might have to steal that for a fic sometime, Linda, if I ever get a chance to return to the one I left off working on.

I sleep in on and off cycles. For a week or two I'll sleep like crap, and have creepy or stressy dreams, and then a week or so later, I'll start sleeping just fine. This past week I've been sleeping so deeply that some mornings I don't even hear Jer's alarm clock go off repeatedly, early ass in the morning- which is kind of insane, because typically I'm a light sleeper. To the point where I have to sleep with ear plugs to block out even quiet background noises, which can keep me up for hours. I have to have a humidifier on, too, while I sleep, because my sinuses are crap. And I keep having to relocate my cats from my pillow lately in the middle of the night, too. Big fat kitty bellies shoving my head this way and that, leaving me with a crick in my neck come morning. Grr. They're lucky they're fun to cuddle, that's all I can say. Our bed is like, our own little menagerie every night and every morning. The dog has to be in with us before we fall asleep and when we wake up in the morning, too. Under the covers. Between us. With her head on the pillow. Like the princess she is.

And is it just me, or does this smiley :tear look remarkably like someone red in the face from being about to have a screaming orgasm, and weeping in joy on account of it? Heh. Or um... yeah, I'll just leave it at that. Hee. But that "tear" could be the work of Trevor, too, couldn't it?

I dub thee, *wand flick* multi-purpose porno smiley! Now if we could just get one of those with elf ears...

I never sleep very well. Never have actually. I am a very light sleeper. I hear everything that's going on around me. It made for very unrestful nights when I was in college. *cringes at the thoughts of what I heard my roomies doing*:blush

I can't believe I am admitting this, but as of late, my gf has informed me I have been snoring. :shock :( She says sometimes I am really loud and it sounds like I am choking. I suspect this is not good. Perhaps I need to see a doctor. How embarrassing is that though? :rolleyes

I try to spoon with my gf when I go to bed late from reading W/T smut, oops, I mean W/T love stories, but when we wake up we always seem to have rolled away from each other. :(

I used to sleep great, 8 hours a night, than this internet thing happened to me 7 years ago, and at first I got little sleep but it wasn't till this board that I knew what real sleep deprivation was all about. Chatting is addictive my friends. At around the same time I also developed an upper back issue that made it difficult for me to sleep more than 6 hours. I think I average about 5 now I am trying to be better. Plus I got a bed with individual coils and a memory foam layer and I can sleep without pain. I prefer to sleep on my side now but my favorite position is on my tummy but that can lead to pain, so I only use it when I need the comfort :)

W/T sleep all kinds of ways as long as they are touching and snuggling.. sigh.

Normally I sleep just great unless the gf gets out of bed for any reason and then I wake straight up. I can't seem to sleep alone. I love to sleep on my stomach and normally find that Binson (my dog) is curled up around one/or both of my legs in the morning.

Mmm I like the idea of Willow half on top of Tara. Bet that's comfy.

I love my bed and have never really had any problems getting enough sleep until we moved house in October. I usually get to sleep without any problem, but I find myself being woken three or four times a night by my dog.

Florence, my dog, won't sleep downstairs, since we moved house. She insists on sleeping in our bed everynight, right between myself and Katie. She is a small dog and there is plenty of room for her and us, so this is okay. But she constantly fidgets and always jumps off the bed. The problem is that she can't get back on,(We have a big bed) without assistance.

So three of four times a night she will jump off the bed and then wake us both, mostly Katie, (because after the second or third time I usually shout at her) by stretching up and scratching the side of the bed, demanding to be lifted onto it.

This is driving me crazy, but my gf is fine with it and says that it doesn't bother her. But I would love to get an uninterrupted nights sleep. :(

I am seriously considering getting some small step ladders made, so that my dog can use them to climb on and off the bed, at will.

Oh.......and I love the visual of Willow sleeping half on top of Tara. I bet that they wouldn't have trouble getting to sleep.

Xita, are you saying your bed remembers who you are? That's so cool! Although I'm sure that if you'd slept on me, I'd remember who you are too. ;) And I make a really comfy mattress. Ahem. Not that I'm whoring myself out to you or anything. :)

For me, the most important part of quality-sleep positioning is the pillow arrangement. (Ok, I just had the word "willowpillow" pop into my head, complete with an image of Tara sleeping peacefully on Willow's chest. Ah, lovely.) I sleep on my side in the fetal position, and I need one coolish pillow facing my body (just to rest against and keep me from rolling onto my stomach, also helpful in case I get all "Must cuddle something NOW!") and one underneath my head, preferably tucked between my head and outstretched arm. Also, when I go home, I've got all my animal-babies on the bed with me... 2 lovely dogs and a bitter, cynical yet equally as lovely old cat. That's my favorite way to sleep. Yes, I'm little picky ;) ... Of course, that's only when I'm not really, really tired. Or drunk. When I'm really, really tired/boozed up, pretty much anywhere will do. My ex-girlfriend used to sleep under the sinks at our school bathroom, just like a homeless person... Ahhhh, what a girl.

As for the ladies, I too think they're all about the spooning... Not only do they get to touch, but it's pretty comforting, and being a Scooby can be stressful at times... Well, most times, I guess... Especially when your "creator" gets taken over by his "creative vision". Anyways, still bitter. Moving on... Anways, when they're fighting, I'm pretty sure that if they don't start the night out holding eachother, they wind up that way by morning.

Ugh...odd how the topic of this thread is so apropos today. Got my monthly so my sleep patterns are even MORE whacked out than usual. I am an extremely light sleeper. The slightest sound and I am up, awake with baseball bat in hand (chalk it up to my citified upbringing....you know, lots of burglaries, people breaking into your house, trying your lock *shudder*). Diana OTOH can sleep through a nuclear war. Not a damn thing can wake her up. I wish I could sleep that well. The only way I can sleep is lots of cold/allergy meds or midol and let me tell ya even that sleep sucks. Think it's due to my ability to make my dreams interactive. I can call them up like a menu on DVD or Tivo and play whatever dream I want (although I don't always get to change the outcomes...*grr*) Guess that makes my brain a TAD too active at night, huh?

Slept quite well last night; I was sufficiently drowsy beforehand, which always helps.

I'm quite the 'late to bed, late to rise' type; definitely NOT a morning person. I don't reach peak functioning until a good ways into the afternoon (1:30 - 3).

As for sleep position, I'm usually on my side with my legs as comfortable as they can be at their length (the annoying long toothpicks they are).

Well, I'm off to lunch. Have a good Monday, all!

The past year or so haven't been so good though, I seem to wake up at the slightest thing :spin Then again....when it comes to go to work I have trouble getting out of bed! :lol

I take over all the bed and the duvet......have pity on my other half.....they end up pretty cold a lot of the time :blush They can snuggle up to me and get warm again though, I really don't mind.

Ann-Marie,
You can buy little ramps for dogs - that might help you have a night of undisturbed sleep. I had to have one to help my dog when she had the spinal surgery and couldn't step up into the house.
I have a big bed, but somehow, if the dog decides shes joining me, she steals all the covers and takes over the bed. So now I insist she sleeps downstairs. Besides, she snores.

I think Willow half on top or Tara would be a very comfortable way to sleep. Its a nice visual too.

My time at uni & living on the farm has helped me into a routine of only needing 5 hours sleep & because my job has me up at ridiculous hours it has come in handy. Even when I have the opportunity to sleep in I never sleep for more than 7 hours. God I sound like my Dad who considers staying in bed till 6am a lie in.:lol

I am an extremely heavy sleeper, a couple of weeks ago a shop round the corner from my house caught fire, seven fire engines attended, and each one went whizzing passed my front door with the sirens going. I slept straight thought it, in fact first I heard of the fire was when I read it in the paper.

I think I'll join the masses and say that Willow sleeps half on top of Tara, awe.

I really need to find myself someone, this talk of sleeping with others is making me feel lonely.

It's always easy for me to get to sleep; staying alseep is my problem. Loud felines outside my door at 5am don't help. I swear he's practicing to be an opera singer.

Xita, I haven't found a bed to help my back, but massage works wonders. The best thing I've found to do myself is to tie two tennis balls in a sock then to roll against them on the floor or a wall with one ball on each side of the spine.

Postby Shadow ALH » Mon Feb 03, 2003 11:16 am

I'm a very deep sleeper. I sleep a lot too, as I find it very easy to get to sleep and even easier to keep sleeping once I am asleep. I am probably one of the only college students out there that consistently gets 8 hours of sleep a night. In fact, when I get less than about 7 hours of sleep I usually wake up with a bit of a sore throat and am fairly grumpy the next day.
The one thing that will interupt my sleep, however, is sleeping alone. I must be the world's biggest snuggler, so if my gf isn't around for some reason I just can't fall asleep. I guess I'm just not comfortable unless we are in each other's arms.
I would also vote for Willow sleeping half on top of Tara. Such a good image to keep with me the rest of the day!

The best thing I've found to do myself is to tie two tennis balls in a sock then to roll against them on the floor or a wall with one ball on each side of the spine.

Interestingly, I've used this trick for my neck, but not for my back. I ought to give it a try; my back has been bothering me a lot these last few months. I actually went out and invested a large chunk of change on a new bed, but while it certainly has helped, it hasn't alleviated the problem entirely. I chalk the chronic backache up to sitting most of the day and not being able to get enough exercise. I do a lot of stretching, take breaks from my chair, and walk at lunch (weather permitting) but that only does so much. :( Those little disposable heating packs are pretty useful, too. I try to get by without living on pain killers, but I usually need at least two Advil a day. I'm also trying to be very mindful of my posture (which is abysmal due to a decade-plus of computer use) and sleeping positions, but it's not always easy. My muscles seems to have atrophied into a chronic slump. I have massage once a month, but that provides only temporary relief at best.

I will say one thing about the new bed, though: I used to wake up 2-3 times in the night when I had my old futon, but now I only wake up once. It's made a huge improvement in my mood. But getting up at 4:45 AM sucks, no matter how wonderful your bed is. :yawn

If anyone has discovered any further tips or tricks for easing a backache, I would surely love to hear them.

Thanks in advance,
Firefoot

Well, I'm happy to report that I slept like the proverbial log last night.. the full 8 hours :sleep I do go through really bad phases of insonmia, when there is nothing else to do but just get up & read or watch TV for a little while.

I'm a bad fidget as well, I have been known to go to bed laying with my head at the right end, and to wake up with my feet there... and absolutely no recollection of turning round :lol

I think I'd better make the most of the sleep though coz I'm riding the couch tomorrow night ... I'm far to nice to make a guest use the sofa
